At a meeting of the National Republican Committee this week, the republican leaders foresook the old landmarks of the party and indorsed a plan for representation in national convention which means condonation of disfranchisement of the Negro in the south. The movement may have two results. One is assured the downfall of Harding, the other the turning of the Negro to the democratic party in the north or to the socialist in the west is little more than surmise. Henry Linecoln Johnson, national ocommitteemen from Georgia, one of the state's affected by the change. Mr. Johnson made the fight of his life but, couldn't rally enough votes for support. The contest was one of the bitterest fought in the annals of the party even women screaming and cheering for Johnston in his fight at his best. Leeds, once Indiana florist, humble railroad worker, then manufacturer of tin plate, then railroad pyramider, is going for the benefit of impoverished titles of Greece. News came from Athens the other day which, it is now disclosed here, means that royalty as represented by King Constantine of Greece and his relatives, have won the lone chance of getting the Leeds fortune. King Plays Trump Card. And a seventeen-year-old girl was the "trump card" of the king of Greece in the game of royalty vs. American millions. The girl is Princess Xenla Georgievna, second daughter of Grand Duchess Marie and niece of King Constantine. She is to marry William B. Leeds, Jr., eleventeen-year-old son of the late W. B. Leeds and Mrs. Leeds, who is now Princess Anastasia of Greece. Young Leeds is sole heir to the millions his father left from his exploits in midwestern and Chicago finances. Mrs. Leeds, now Princess Anastasia, of course, has the use of the estate, variously estimated $30,000,000 to $400,000,000, but on her death, under the terms of the Leeds will, the whole estate goes to young Leeds or his heirs. In other words, Greek royalty didn't stand much chance of keeping the Leeds millions unless they got the son of Mrs. Leeds (Princess Anastasia) into the royal family some way or other. Princess Anastasia has been ill of late, too. In fact, she has been so ill in Athens that young Leeds recently rushed from New York to France, then by al- plane to Athens, to he at the bedside of his mother. It is interesting to note that Athens press dispatches say that young Leeds proposed to Princess Xenia the day after he arrived in Athens to see his sick mother. He was promptly accepted. If there was a color line, why would it be necessary to inaugurate laws to prohibit Negroes and Whites marrying? Why would white women seek and allow association with Negro men? Why would a white man in the heart of the south commit suicide because customs and legislation prohibited him of marrying the woman he loved—a Negro woman? Why would there be places where white men would kill colored men for keeping company with colored women that the former is in love with? Why would athird percent of the Negro population of this county be malattoes and all other colors? A condition that has its origin where I need not say. With this actual fact who will contend that there is a color line! When the Negroes in any community make a definite effort in the south—the place that color is talked about so much) to lift themselves socially and economically then a frame-up against them is started. In the South so long as a Negro is an Uncle Tom and slave for the white men they will do anything for him but, just the moment he "Looks upward" the very blood of the white man weeps for suppression of the Negro. Any nation that takes up a sword against another wrongfully will perish by the sword. When a ditch is dug for another the digger falls in the ditch. The sword has been taken up against the black man in this country. He did not really awaken to the fact until his war-ridden bodies fell and decorated the fields of France like the eternal stars in the heaven. The white man taught him to fight, and one of those students lead the riot at Tulsa the other day that brings disgraced headlines in the pages of papers all over the world—disgraced before God and man. Don't say any more that there is a color line because we are mistreated. It's the social and economic standing that the white man wants to be masters in and instead of making things better they are making them worse.
