The old flag waves in triumph The country is safe. We are redeemed. Taft has been elected and all classes can breathe free again.

FOR SOUR MILK CAKES.
Dainty Trifles That Go Well with the Afternoon Tea.
Spiee Cake.—Beat slightly the yolks of two eggs and one whole egg and add three-fourths of a cupful each of sugar and of sour milk. Put in the flour sifter two cupfuls of flour, one teaspoonful each of ground cloves, cinnamon and mace, and half a teaspoonful of salt. Sift into the liquid, stir, and heat until well mixed. Then add half a teaspoonful of hot water. Bake in three layers in a hot oven for 15 minutes. For the filling beat whites of eggs to a stiff froth. Pour over them slowly half a cupful of hot maple syrup and beat until thick and cool. Spread between layers and on top.
Gingerbread.—Beat together two eggs, one cupful of molasses, and half a cupful of sugar. Add a tablespoonful of ginger and a dessert spoonful of oinnamon. Add half a cupful of sour milk and two cupfuls of sifted flour. Dissolve a teaspoonful of soda in one-fourth of a cupful of sour milk, add, mix, and pour into a shallow buttered pan. Bake in a moderate oven for half an hour.
German Crisps. $ \rightarrow $ Beat two eggs with two cupfuls of sugar and add half a cupful of sour milk in which half a teaspoonful of soda has been dissolved. Sift in sufficient flour to make a soft dough. Knead lightly, roll out half an inch in thickness, and cut in fancy shapes. Sprinkle with coarse sugar and nut meats, or press a whole almond in the center.
Drop Cookies.—Mix two cupfuls of sugar with two eggs, add one cupful of molasses and half a cupful of sour milk. Add one cupful of raisins or currants (if raisins are used cut them amalf), one teaspoonful each of eloves and oinnamon, half a teaspoonful of soda dissolved in a tablespoonful of hot water, and six cupfuls of flour. Mix all together well and drop from a spoon on a buttered tin, having the cakes some distance apart. Sugar and bake in a slow oven for 15 minutes.
LEMONS AS CUPS FOR SALADS.
Add Attractiveness to Table at Lucheon or Dinner.
Lemons are so useful as cups for salads that we wonder what would happen if the lemon trees would quit bearing. Choose big plump lemons, scoop them well and scrub the outsides. You may not believe it, but some cooks do forget to do this simple hygienic thing. Therefore pick your lemons, wash, then cut in halves and scoop out the pulp. Remove the tough inner skin and seeds and to the rest add one box of best boneless sardines minced fine, a spoonful of French mustard, two hard-boiled eggs, chopped, a dash of Tabasco sauce and a little mayonnaise. Cut a thin slice from the bottom of the lemon cup in order that it may stand firmly. Fill each cup with the mixture; garnish with chopped eggs and a sprig of parsley, and if possible set in a nest of nice crisp watercress unless it is a time for curly lettuce. The very curly endive makes a charming setting to salad cups and does not wilt very soon.
On baking day take from your dough after its second rising two cups risen dough. Have ready also two cups white sugar, one cup butter creamed with sugar, three eggs, one even teaspoon soda dissolved in hot water, two tablespoons sweet milk—cream is better — one-half pound currants washed and dredged, one teaspoon nutmeg, one teaspoon cloves. Beat the yolks very light, add the creamed butter and sugar, the spice, milk, soda and dough; stir until all are well mixed; put in the beaten whites, lastly the fruit. Beat hard five minutes; let it rise 20 minutes in two well buttered pans, and bake half an hour, or until done.
Cake Worth Trying.
Place your sifter in your mixing bowl, in your sifter put one cup of sugar, 1 1/2 cups of sifted flour, one level teaspoon of soda and two level teaspoons of cream of tartar. Sift these all together into your bowl. Put into a teacup the whites of two eggs, add enough melted butter to half fill the cup and on that put enough milk (sweet) to fill the cup. Put in your mixing bowl with the other ingredients, add flavoring and beat five minutes. So easily and quickly made, and when baked will be light as a feather. Another loaf can be made from the yolks in the same way.
Fish Pudding.
Boil two pounds of any kind of white fish, remove all the skin and bones, then chop it up finely; put it into a basin, add half a cup bread crumbs, one teaspoonful chopped parsley, a little salt, pepper and nutmeg. Add one teaspoonful of flour, one cupful of milk, one tablespoonful melted butter and two well-beaten eggs. Pour the mixture into a well-buttered mold, cover with buttered paper and steam gently one hour. Turn out carefully, decorate with thinly sliced lemon. Serve hot with oyster sauce.
We shall never know whether that University of Michigan professor is right or wrong who says that Timbucoo will be the capital of the world in 4.000 A. D.

JAMES M. KERR DEAD
National Committeeman Dies Suddenly After Operation
NEW YORK: James Kerr, democratic national committeeman from Pennsylvania, died at 1:40 o'clock Saturday morning at his summer home in New Rochelle, following an operation for an intestinal disorder which had made him practically an invalid for a year. His wife and sons were with him at the end.
Mr. Kerr was born in Mafflin county. Pa., in 1851. He received his education in the Pennsylvania schools and removed to Clearfield, Pa., when a young man. He took an active part in politics on the side of the democratic party, with which he has always been identified and was elected to the fifty-first congress in 1888. Mr. Kerr was democratic state chairman during the Pattison-Delamater gubernatorial campaign in Pennsylvania, one of the rare occasions on which this state went democratic. It was at this time he was made a member of the democratic national committee.
ENOUGH EVIDENCE TO HANG
Proof in Plenty to Convict Ringleaders of Night Riders
Camp Nemo, Reelfoot Lake, Tenn.: "We know who fired the shots and who put the rope around Rankin's neck," said Governor Patterson in a statement here just before his departure for Union City, where a special grand jury is investigating the night rider depredations in this section which culminated recently in the murder of Captain Quentin Rankin. The governor in his statement said :
"The proof which has thus far developed is positive as to the guilt of some of the men under arrest and implicates many others. This will all be presented to the court at the proper time and a long step has been taken to discover and suppress lawlessness in this region. We know who fired the shot and who put the rope around Rankin's neck. The number of men actually at the killing was probably not more than ten, while some stood guard and others held the horses.
"The whole number engaged in the undertaking did not exceed thirty-five. The inquiry will further be prosecuted and the state will have ample evidence to convict."
The confessions of Ferriner, Hogg and Morris substantiate, it is said, that of Ted Burton, made the other day. These three will be used as state's witnesses. They will be taken to Memphis for safe keeping. It is understood that Garrett Johnson, alleged captain of the night riders, and others, will be taken to Nashville,
Part of Acronautical Show
NEW YORK: The weather bureau at Washington has decided to take part in the aeronautical show to be held in New York on election day under the auspices of the American Aeronautic society with an exhibit of various sorts of apparatus by which meteorological observations are taken. Among these will be the great box kites sent up to high altitudes and sounding balloons with instruments attached which register various conditions miles in the air.
Waters-Pierce Argument Begun
WASHINGTON: Argument was begun in the supreme court of the United States in the Waters-Pierce oil company case in which that company seeks to have reversed the decisions of the state courts of Texas ousting it from doing business in the state and imposing a fine which, counting both principal and interest now amounts to about $1,750,000.
Motor Explodes in Midair
LEMANS, France: While Wilbur Wright, the American aeroplanist, was making a flight the motor of the machine exploded. Wright landed without injury and the aeroplane was not otherwise damaged.
"I see that they're a-goin' to uplift us farmers!"
"What do they calc'late ter use balloons or dynamite?"
Time's Wonderful Changes.
Harry Lauder says that when Sir Alexander Ramsay was constructing upon his magnificent estate in Scotland a piece of machinery to drive, by means of a small stream in his barnyard, a threshing machine, a winnowing machine, a circular saw for splitting trees, a hay press, an oat roller, etc., he noticed an old fellow, who had long been about the place, looking very attentively at all that was going on. "Robby," said he, "wonderful things people can do nowadays, can't they?" "Ay,' said Robby; "indeed, Sir Alexander, I'm thinking if Solomon was alive now he'd be thought naething o'!"
Unusually Severe Drought.
The water in Lake Champlain during the recent drought reached the lowest point recorded in local history, nine feet below high water mark. Steamers were obliged to abandon many of their trips on account of the impossibility of making landings at the docks. The mountain brooks became almost dry, and the beds of some of the largest rivers were mere threads of water. The drought and forest fires were ruinous to agricultural interests. New York Sun.
Sitting in a Game?
"My boy tells me that he had to sit up with a sick friend last night!"
"And you accept that excuse for his late hours?"
"Why not? My daddy used to honor it."
PUZZLE SOLVED.
Coffee at Bottom of Trouble.
It takes some people a long time to find out that coffee is kurting them.
But when once the fact is clear, most people try to keep away from the thing which is followed by ever increasing detriment to the heart, stomach and nerves.
"Until two years ago I was a heavy coffee drinker," writes an Ill. stockman, "and had been all my life. I am now 56 years old.
"About three years ago I began to have nervous spells and could not sleep nights, was bothered by indigestion, bloating, and gas on stomach affected my heart.
"I spent lots of money doctoring one doctor told me I had chronic catarrh of the stomach; another that I had heart disease and was liable to die at any time. They all dieted me until I was nearly starved but I seemed to get worse instead of better. "Having heard of the good Postum had done for nervous people, I discarded coffee altogether and began to use Postum regularly. I soon got better, and now, after nearly two years, I can truthfully say I am sound and well.
"I sleep well at night, do not have the nervous spells and am not bothered with indigestion or palpitation. I weigh 32 pounds more than when I began Postum, and am better every way than I ever was while drinking coffee. I can't say too much in praise of Postum, as I am sure it saved my life." "There's a Reason."
Name given by Postum Co., Battle Creek, Mich. Read "The Road to Wellville," in pkgs.

"The development of the country has made marvellous strides. It is a revelation, a record of conquest by settlement that is remarkable."—Extract from correspondence of a National Editor, who visited Canada in August last.
The grain crop of 1908 will net many farmers $20.00 to $25.00 per acre. Grain-raising, mixed farming and dairying are the principal industries. Climate is excellent; social conditions the best; railway advantages unequalled; schools, churches and markets close at hand. Land may also be purchased from railway and land companies.

A Sudden Transition.
Little Willie Jones, while picking blackberries, was stung on the calf c. his leg by a poisonous insect. By bedtime his leg was so swollen that his mother began to be very much worried, so the first thing the next morning she went to his room to find out if the swelling had gone down. "How is your leg, son?" sne inquired. "Come, look—it's swelled 'way up," he answered proudly. "My calf has got big as a heifer since last night.—Lippincott's.

American Coal in Canada.
Prescott, Ontario, has become an entering port for American coal. One firm landed 300,000 tons there during the navigation period of last year. A large unloading and loading plant has been installed.
Try cleaning white cloth trimmings with salt and flour, hot. This is very effective, while not injuring the material in any way.
Furniture takes a better polish if, before starting the rubbing, all dirt and dust is rubbed from the wood by a slightly dampened cloth.
A quick and easy method to peel onions for frying or stewing is to cut off the top and bottom of the onion, quarter it and the outside skin is easily removed. When starching Holland pinafores, if a little tea is put into the starch used they will keep their color, instead of getting that faded appearance we all know so well. If a small quantity of cream turns sour in the icebox do not throw it out, but with a fork beat it a few minutes and a tiny patch of fresh outter and a little glass of buttermilk will be the reward.
To clean kld shoes put in a saucer a half-ounce of strong ammonia, dip in a clean flannel and rub it on castile soap. Then rub the shoes with this, changing the flannel when it becomes soiled.

five years ago with dull backache, which got so severe in time that I could not get around. The kidney secretions became badly disordered, and at times there was almost a complete stop of the flow. I was examined again and again and treated to no avail, and kept getting worse. I have to praise Doan's Kidney Pills for my final relief and cure. Since using them I have gained in strength and flesh and have no sign of kidney trouble."

TO ASSAY OKLAHOMA GOLD.
Verdict of Denver Expert May Start Rush of Miners.
Oklahoma City, Ok.—John Fisher, an old miner, left for the Denver assaying office with a sack of gold ore found in the hills near Ravia, Ok., and upon the showing will depend the activity of mining operations at that place, where considerable excitement has been caused from the finding of what is believed to be good ore. The best ore was found on Mill creek. This was some months ago and some of the ore assaved $6 per ton. The country near Ravia is being overrun with prospectors and many claims have been staked, but not worked, pending the outcome of the ore sent to Denver.
COTTON GINS UNDER GUARD.
Night Riderism at Konawa, Ok., Is Resisted by Armed Men.
Oklahoma City, Ok.—Cotton gins are being operated under heavy guard at Konowa, the center of night riderism in Oklahoma, and those temporarily suspended, pending attempt to secure guards, will be opened in a few days. A number of threatening letters have been received by business men and cotton buyers there in the last few days, but the gins will pay not attention to them and will continue taking cotton.

Opinion on Tax Disputes.
Guthrie, Okla.—In an opinion to County Clerk Kerr of Pontotoc county Attorney General West determines the basis of settling disputes arising from conflicting tax assessed valuations. "The valuation as assessed by the state board and certified to the county boards by the state auditor," says the opinion. "is the official and only authorized valuation of property for taxation purposes. This valuation when certified succeeds and annuls any and all previous valuations for tax purposes. The county commissioners have authority only to extend valuations as levied by school districts.
Expect to Invite Two Thousand
Oklahoma City, Ok.—What probably will be the largest secret society convention ever held in Oklahoma will be that of the Woodmen of the World Dec. 3, when it is expected that 2,000 members will be initiated. Arrangements are now being made to take care of 5,000 delegates. Sovereign Commander Root of Omaha will be present and also a number of leading officers from all over the country.

Glory! Hallelujah!! Glory!!! Glory!!!
It was a great battle and right has won.
Republicanism has triumphed over wrong and Democracy is in the slump.
Creager is the Congressman from the 3rd. Who said this is a Democratic District?
Harry Beeler got there with all four feet and toe nails dragging.
It looks like a landslide and we will carry the state for the Republicans.
Three Congressional Districts in Oklahoma are Republican and next time we will carry the state.
Who said I don't know Creag er?
Who said I don't know Morrison?
Judge Cook is a good sprinter and came under the wire leaps ahead.
Merrick and Knox threw dirt in the eyes of their opponents and won in a walk.
The fellows who scotched the wheel are making desperate efforts to get into the band wagon.
Eliminate the thieves, thugs, political freebooters, sell outs and political pirates from our party and we can win. See last elections report. Don't "cuss" the Democrats for trying to win but "cuss" the lilywhites who trade and sell out.
The 3rd Congressional District is the banner district of Oklahoma and Muskogee is the banner Republican County in the State.
Field Marshall Morrison has won another victory. As Coun ty Chairman, he is a peach.
Republicans and Democrats are both satisfied that we will have an able representative in Congress who will represent the entire people. Watch the old Third grow.
Archie V. Jones, state committeeman, is entitled to the Ribbon. Last year under a different committeeman we lost the county and this year it is republican by 1000. He has made good and the fellowe who failed to contribute because Jones was committeeman should soak their heads.
The boys in the trenches fought nobly and as a result we will have prosperity in the future.
Come to magnificent Oklahoma. It is a good place in which to live. We invite all good people to come regardless of race, color or creed. Republicanism means prosperity. Everybody come.

"Cardui" writes Mrs. Susan A. Hall, of Hayne, N. C., "has been a heaven-sent blessing to me. Since taking Cardui, I have been in better health than in the past five years. It cured me. I could not have had my baby, if it had not been for Cardui. I cannot say too much in praise of it."
Ladies who suffer from the pains and ailments due to womanly ills, such as headache, backache, dragging sensations, pain in side, numbness, inability to walk, nervousness, irregular functions, dizziness, etc., should try this famous female remedy, which has benefited over a million women, during the past 50 years. Composed of purely vegetable, harmless ingredients, CARDUI is a perfectly safe and reliable remedy. Try it.
LAMENT FOR CHANGED TIMES.
Adoniram Cornetop Discourses on Present-Day Extravagance.
"Yes, siree, Bill, times is changed since you an' me was doin' our courtin'," said Adoniram Corntop, with a note of sadness in his voice, to old Andy Clover, who had come over to "set a spell."
"When we was doin' our courtin', Andy, a gal thought she was bein' treated right harnsom if a feller bought her ten cents' wuth o' pep'mints once in awhile, an' if he tuk her to any dein's in town she didn't expect him to go down into his jeans to the tune of a dollar or two fer ice cream an' soda water an' candy at fo'ty cents a paound. My son Si tuk his duckey-doodle to the band coneert in town yistiday an' there wan't a quarter left of a dollar bill he struck me fer time he got home. Beats all the way young folks throw the money away nowadays. I tell ye times is changed mightily since we was boys, an' the Lawd only knows what the end will be with a feller layin' out 75 cents on a gal in one day."—Puck.
A Cure for Poison Ivy.
Before the skin blisters scrub the affected parts with a brush and soap and water. Then apply a saturated solution of sugar of lead in 50 per cent. of alcohol. The alcohol must contain some water. Pure alcohol would not dissolve the sugar of lead. This relieves the burning of the poison ivy, and it is supposed that the alcohol dissolves the poison and the sugar of lead neutralizes it. Suburban Life.
Certainly Fair.
Of all troubles humanity is subject to none perhaps causes more acute distress and more frantic efforts for relief than many forms of itching skin troubles. We will tell you a remedy that rarely ever fails—Hunt's Cure. One box only is absolutely guaranteed to cure any one case of itching trouble—no matter the name. If it fails, your money is cheerfully refunded.
Pennsylvania Statesmen.
The Pennsylvanians in George Washington's first cabinet were Timothy Pickering, secretary of state, and for a time secretary of war and postmaster-general, and William Bradford, attorney-general. Pickering was the only Pennsylvanian in his second administration.
Might Have Been.
When Shakespeare said: "Aye, there's the rub," we do not know for certain he was thinking of the itch. But one thing we do know—and know it twenty years' worth—Hunt's Cure will absolutely, infallibly and inmediately cure any itching trouble that ever happened to the human cuticle. It's guaranteed.
No man can seek honestly or hopefully to be delivered from temptation unless he has himself honestly and firmly determined to do the best he can to keep out of it.—Ruskin.

15 YEARS OF SUFFERING.
Burning, Painful Sores on Legs—
Tortured Day and Night—Tried
Many Remedies to No Avail
—Cured by Cuticura.
"After an attack of rheumatism, running sores broke out on my husband's legs, from below the knees to the ankles. There are no words to tell all the discomforts and great suffering he had to endure night and day. He used every kind of remedy and three physicians treated him, one after the other, without any good results whatever. One day I ordered some Cuticura Soap, Cuticura Ointment, and Cuticura Resolvent. He began to use them and in three weeks all the sores were died up. The burning fire stepped, and the pains became bearable. After three months he was quite well. I can prove this testimonial at any time. Mrs. V. V. Albert, Upper Frenchville, Me. July 21: 1907."
Conequering One's Self.
