The Muskogee Cimeter. Vol. 16 An Unmitigated Fabrication Some weeks ago when W. A. Rentie was arrested for contempt of court by officers from Napulpa. an article appeared in the Evening Democrat an art dubbing him the Black Patriot Immediately after the arrest report came to us from the jail that the Editor of this paper and Attorney Price caused the arrest. A bigger lie would have to come from a bigger man. Some fool friends and relatives continued to circulate it for a while. The truth of the matter is, and no one knows it better than all parties in interest that the County Judge of Creek County is alone responsible, for having the man incarcreted. The man had refused to obey the order of the Court and had to answer for his refusal. The only part the Editor of this paper had in any part of the game was to beg the court to grant him time to make his reprot, when he had failed to comply with the court's order. The Judge of the County Court will bear us out in the above statement Assisted by Attorney Price, we made out some reports for the patriot and kept of contempt proceedings for some weeks. The pay is what people sometimes get who try to assist those asking for aid. aid. The attempt to make the prevaracation a fight between the State Negro and the Citizen is too foolish for notice, but in justice to all we will make a full statement next issue as to the break between the Black Patriot and the socalled State Negroes. Burial Association Muskogee Oklahoma. Everything was harmonious and the work of the session was rapidly performed There were thirty two deaths during the past years. The temple debt has been almost eliminated and we predict all departments will be on a paying basis within the next sisty days We did not get the names of the officers of the Eastern Star but learn that Mr W. Waid of Muskogee is Gr Patron and Mrs C. P. Talliaferro, Gr Matron MURDER MOST FOUL Last Wednesday the fiend known as the hatchet fiend got busy and another murder was committed Mr. Wm B. Province a white man who runs a gracery at 22nd and Okmulgee was the victim. Several arrests it is claimed were made and among the number was a negro, Gent Jenkins who was afterward discharged who ever the guilty fiend is be he white black or red should be purnished as the law directs. Soon after the arrest of Jinkins there was armor started that a lynching be proposed but the officers of the law Chief of Police Depew and his farce and Sheriff Barger and his Deputies able re-inforced by the sentiment of the best class of white and colored citizens let it be known that a mob gathering would be furnishing lots of material for the undertaker and the embryo mob dissolved. We are proud of the good citizenship of Muskogee because from the beginning up to this date they have always stood as a remit against mob violence. In tde old days Dr Bennett as U S. Marshall kept it down as did S. M. Rutherford when he was U. S. Marshall. Ramsey, Wisener Robison and Ledbetter as Seeriff kept up the good record and now Sheriff Barger s persuing the same course and we hope to keep the record clean. We regret that sheriff Barger has seen fit to offer rewarc for a big black negro instead of a reward for the criminal no matter what his color. There are so many of us big black ones that any cheap skate is liable to tgy to collect that fifty and made it embarrassing for us big black ones we would reflectfully suggest that the Sheriff change tho working of his ad; the negoes of the city want the criminal caught be be a big or little black, white or red and stand in a solid mass against lynching of any one white black or red.
