TEN CENTS IN FOREIGN COUNTRIES AFRICA, LAND OF OUR FATHERS, CONTINENT OF LIGHT THE NEGRO, IF HE WILLS, MUST COME INTO HIS OWN Fellow Men of the Negro Race, Greeting: I have to tender you my heartfelt thanks for the earnest efforts you are making to secure my release from a prison where persecution has confined me. I desire to let you know that, whatever betide, I shall always treasure memories of the deep appreciation which you have manifested for service which I have been fortunate enough to render and which, I trust; shall prove to be a boon to this downtrodden race of ours. This week I desire to speak to you about the Continent of Light—Africa. They would have you believe that Africa is the "Dark Continent." Africa is today the most brilliant continent on the face of the globe. It is the continent of light. There is no darkness about Africa. Africa is so much lit, that it is attracting the attention of the world. Like the moon and the sun, it attracts the world because of its brilliancy. Africa Full of Light Africa is full of light, I say, because gold is there. Africa is full of light because copper and tin and iron and coal and everything you can think of are there. And the white man seeks the light. That's why he is going to Africa. Yet they are still trying to camouflage you about the "Dark Continent." I have nothing to hide. I have no camouflage. I have but one truth to tell where Africa is concerned. It is the land of my fathers. They never gave it to anybody, and by my rights, legal and moral, it belongs to me. I cannot argue with the white man about Canada. I won't argue with the white man for a minute in an effort to convince him that America is mine. I won't argue with the Englishman for a minute telling him that Great Britain is mine. But I will spend eternity fighting with any man who wants to talk about Africa, because it is mine. Let the Canadians have Canada; let the Americans have America and let us have Africa. Yes, we shall have Africa, or report to God the reason why. Propaganda Will Not Deter And in our endeavor to regain possession of our Godgiven land we shall be deterred by no obstacles. We shall count as naught the propaganda of the other fellow to keep us in a state of subjection. Propaganda has done more to defeat the good intentions of races and nations than even open warfare. Propaganda is a method used by organized people to convert others against their will, and we are suffering more than any other race in the world from propaganda—propaganda to destroy our hopes, to destroy our habit, to destroy our confidence in life. To destroy the usefulness of our organization, to prevent the success of our organization, to destroy the hope of this race of ours for freedom, for true liberty, propaganda has been organized to the effect that you will be so diverted, you will be so divided as to bring about confusion among yourselves, and in the confusion will come the success of the plan laid out by those who are organizing to keep us where we are until we are completely destroyed. Known to Be Just What do I mean by that I mean this: that the Universal Negro Improvement Association stands out at this time on a platform of equity, of justice, of liberty, of freedom for the Negro. Everybody knows it to be a just cause. No one knows it better than those who robbed and exploited and murdered us for over three hundred years. They know it is the program sought by all peoples, and that it is the program that should be supported by all peoples who know themselves to be the creatures of God. But their purpose is not to let us into true freedom, true liberty, true democracy by ourselves, because they have always held us as slaves, and they will always keep us as slaves to suit their convenience, provided we let them do that. So as to keep us slaves, so as to be able to use us as they desire, until they feel that they can do completely without us, they have insti gated, they have started, they have subsidized counterpropaganda, counter-movements, some of them having the same appearance as your own Universal Negro Improvemen t Association; movements that actually try to do the same thing you are trying to do; movements coming out with the same program you have in view. What is the idea? It is to divide and ultimately to destroy you. They know that without unity there can be no success. They know well that with division among you, you will fight among yourselves, and therefore there will never come a conflict with them—that it, between us and them. Support Negro Leadership I want you to realize this-that where your liberty, where your freedom is concerned, there should be but one policy for you, and that policy should be Negro leadership and Negro support of Negro leadership. Where other things are concerned, as religion, social life, or industrial life, we can afford to admit into association other races; but where your liberty is concerned; where your freedom is concerned, no one should be allowed but yourselves. If you haven't liberty, and you are struggling for it, you will have to get it from someone; for someone is depriving you of it. How then can you afford to accept into your association, into your companionship, into your executive councils, men who have kept you from getting your liberty, and those who are opposed to the progress you are making for your liberty? It is illogical. If Africa is to be freed from Europe she has got to be made free upon her own initiative, free from any alliance or aid from Europeans. Africans cannot expect Europe to help free Africa when Europe is the country that keeps Africa in subjection. It is illogical. And so I appeal to the Negroes of the world to so work, the propaganda of the enemy notwithstanding, that they will bring back into the fold the continent of Africa which they have all but lost. The thing can be done, and it must be done. All that is needed is a single purpose, a common will. And, with Unity as our watchword and God being our Helper we shall attain our objective. In the polyliterate age, men had many gods in each nation. Later they became monarchs of a kind in that they believed in one God for their particular nation—a tribal or national god, who would protect and defend them from the gods of surrounding nations. The world has not progressed very far today. In theory mankind professes to believe in one God and Father of all creation, but in practice it is evident that they still worship a racial god. When men sing about "Our father's God," they have not gone any farther than the ancient Jew who considered God as a national or racial asset—"The God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob." When the white man tells me that he believes in the universal Fatherhood of God, and then I witness his complete failure to recognize the universal brotherhood and equality of man, his brotherhood and nothing to me, and we must seek after God and study Him for ourselves. Why the White Man Is Shocked In our efforts, as New Nearest, to find a God when we could respect because He is no respector of persons we have been held up as believers in a black god. So that as it may, the New Negro declines to accept his theology from alien religious teachers. Religious freedom is the very basis of all freedom, and the member of the Universal Negro Improvement Association who still receives weekly, monthly or annual doses of religious teaching or preaching from any but a Negro does not understand the fundamental principles of liberty. Kept in Slavery It was religion as taught us by the other fellow that kept us in slavery for nearly 300 years. It is the other fellow's theology that has so many of us believe that the Negro is accused, and predestined to be the hewer of wood and the thawer of water in whatever country he may dwell. When Marcus Garvey wrote out the motif of this organization and began it with the words "Ong God" you can rest assured that he meant us to know that God for ourselves. From Atlanta he wrote me a few months ago emphasizing this fact that Negroes must see God through their own eyes, and not through alien eyes. "See Me through thine own eyes" is what Marcus Garvey says God wants us to do. And that is what I have been doing. Seeing God Through Own Eyes I have no quarrel with the white man who sees God through his own white eyes. I have no quarrel with the yellow man who sees God through his own yellow eyes. I have no quarrel with the red man who sees God through his own red eyes. I simply ask to be let alone when I exercise for myself the same privilege and see God through my own black eyes. I have seen too much of the white man's God and relation to conting to listen to his preaching. His missionary societies were never primarily intended to living about the salvation of the people in Africa. Every missionary was a spy in the employment of his king and country, an agent of the imperialistic designs of his people. Sometimes I and myself believing that Africans would have been better off without white missionaries. When I hear Talks of life with Livingstone as the great pioneer missionary of the Dark Continent, I utter a gratitude, for he was an explorer and answerer of other people's lands. Missionaries, traders, soldiers, Bibles, bottles, bullets, that has been the established order. Sometimes one would hear how Negroes can continue, as many still do, to take seriously the religious too big of the white man when he has used it, long to exploit our race and to ask us to a place of inferiority. Belief in the Negro Race My good today consists of two brief articles, "I believe in God; I believe in the Negro race." That is my re-lation in a nutshell, and that is what I am exhorting all the echegymmen under my leader ship to preach "God and the Negro." The Negro preacher who Sunday after Sunday has nothing to any about Negro welfare. Negro progress, Negro achievement. Negro cooperation and Negro destiny, does not meet the needs of his people. We are not tired hearing about God, but we want to show white people the promise for us, and flow He will make good what is written, in the Scriptures. "Princess shall come, out of Egypt, Ethiopia shall soon, stretch out her hands unto God." I am not one of those, who accept the Universal Negro Improvement Association as a substitute for religion, for the founder never had any such idea. But, the time has come when we shall all espouse it as a great, all-comprehensive, racial missionary movement, a holy cause to which every Negro should give undyided allegiance, marching behind its banners upon which is inscribed another of our chosen mottoes, "Pro Deo, Arika, et Justitia." Garvey, the Real Emancipator One Leader. This is my second point. With God as the Divine leader, there must be also a human leader. And the more backward people, the greater the necessity for leadership. Marcus Garvey has beyond doubt demonstrated that he is the outstanding leader of the Negro people, and I assert this without fear of successful contradiction. As one who has read, heard, marked, learnt and inwardly digested the philosophy of Garvey, I cansay "I find no fault" in his doctrines, for he has proven himself the greatest emancipator of our race. Others have torn the shackles and chains from the hands of our gooffathers, and thus secured for them and their descendants physical freedom. But it was Marcus Garvey who brought the Negro to the New Freedom, that intellectual freedom which has shown itself in independence and originality of thought among Negroes everywhere, whether they gave the credit to Garvey or not (Applauded). That is the true emancipation, and they in Marcus Garvey couples the unique position of being for this race a greater emancipation than Alexander Lincoln. Killed Superiority Bogey This is the man who found his people harmonized into believing that the whole race was superior, and that of our very inflicted into a sleep of frenzy; the sow that they were 'warn' any Son; the ease they were taught that they had no particular destiny. Immediately to self I felt to an abyss within there the spirit of race consciousness, to approach to them that God never placed upon them any badge of inferiority, or any imputation to their powers. It was the Jesus the Negro was waiting to behold, and millions of the race began to believe in their equality with other men. "What man has done, man can do," Carvery, as he helped the Negro to tell that he too was truly a man. Hig our leader did not step here. He provided within us, what no other man, black or white, has done. The spirit of racial partition and pride and gave us a vision of nationhood and citizenship in an African government of our own. To that end he inspired us with a national flag, a national sympathy, a national holiday, and uniformed organizations, which to some seemed precarious but the psychological value of which he was well aware of. Destroying Old Idols Garvey kept right on demolishing old idols. He has forever inspired white leadership from among Negro people, and has devised the custom of Black leaders being selected for us by an all-race race. Since Garvey has come upon the scene the hand pledged leader has become an anarchism, and we have learned to choose and elect our own leaders. Had he done no more than this Marcus Garvey would still be the greatest of all Negro leaders. But when he gave us our doctrine, "Africa for the Africans," he measured up to Montana, the father of the so-called Monroe doctrine. The underlying cause of all Garvey's opposition and persecution from the white nations of Europe and his black faces here in America can be traced to this doctrine of his, "Africa for the Africans." But all the nations of Europe combined, and all the black rivals of Garvey in the United States cannot check the desire for nationalism among the Negroes of the world. Whatever they may say of Garvey, whatever they may do to Garvey, we of the Universal Negro Improvement Association proclaim him a leader of merit, of courage, of sacrifice, of vision, of determination—a leader that is 100 per cent Negro. The second volume of his "Philosophy and Opinions" will within a fortnight come to us from the press. Having been requested by him to write the preface to this book, I have had the privilege of reading the proof sheets, and I take this opportunity to urge every Negro, and particularly every member of our organization, to procure a copy for himself, and to send one to a friend elsewhere as a Christmas gift. A Prophecy Our leader's enforced absence from us has not lessened his popularity and influence. It applauded. It has made him our hero. Those who are foolish enough to think that he has lost his grip upon this organization are totally mistaken. Some day he shall re-enter Liberty Hall. (Applause). Some day he shall physically reassume the reins of government and Harlem shall witness a demonstration of our loyalty and affection as it has not witnessed before. (Applause). One God! One Leader! And One Alm. This organization aims to conserve our racial integrity. It warts the black race kept black, and warms delinquents of both races that it will not tolerate the degeneration of Negroes into a mongrel race. It stands squarely on the platform of "inhumanization, an intrageneration." It desires that our race be kept-free from illicit intermingling by alien people, and frowns upon, intermarriages, of whites, and blacks. This organization sees no badge of superiority in half-breeds; it does not grant the claim of writers that the injection of white blood into the veins of a Negro makes that individual more brilliant, more intellectual and more refined than his brother who is true to type. We draw no lines against our fellowmen who admit that they are Negroes despite their fair skin, but we do desire to call a halt to the progressive bleaching out of the black race. Self-Determination Self-Determination But the most important aim of the Universal Negro Improvement Association is expressed in the word "self-determination." If self-determination is a right of men of other groups, we claim it as ours also. In that historic document which we drew up and signed in this hall in August, 1920, we declared it our inalienable right to pursue life, liberty and happiness in our own way with due respect to the similar right of other groups. We declared it to be our unfailing purpose to prevent the curtailing or usurpation, of these rights. If the white man stands on a platform of "Liberty, or death," no one can condemn the Negro for his determination to stand on a similar platform. In all racial affairs we depend supreme authority. We deny the right of alien people to dominate us perpetually, and to this end we have notified the world of our determination to secure in our Motherland a government for Africans, of Africans, and by Africans. We are not who takes offense by this solemn declaration of ours. The great American nation is not offended. Of this we are certain, and if any assistance is given us by any of the Great Powers it will be through the initiative of the government of the United States of America. We have, not conceived this greatest of our alms, and we do not mean to conceal it at any time. Tell it in Gath, publish it in the streets of Askleton, Europe for Europeans, Asia for Asiaites and Africa for Africans. Let him be offended who will. One Destiny One destiny. What is that destiny? Nothing short of the realization of our aims. It is written in the plans of the eminent rule of the earth that the Negro shall dwell and rule in his homeland, for Africa is our Day of right. The people who dwell and rule in America claim that they "discovered" it, but black men did not need to discover Africa. Some other territories like Alaska, Louisiana and the Virgin Islands have been secured by purchase, but black men did not need to purchase any part of Africa. Still other regions were secured by conquest, but the black man did not need to conquer any one to secure Africa. Some countries have recently been obtained by that sorrowless method termed a "maniatic," but black men need no negroes where Africa is concerned. The "land of Haiti" is the Old Testament refers to it. It is the original and eternal possession of the sons and daughters of Ham, and we serve notice on the sons of Japheth that their claims, whether of discovery, barter, conquest or mandate, are, so far as this organization is concerned, invalid and illegal, and that in every way possible and feasible we are determined that such claims shall be declared null and void. Our destiny to rulership and possession in Africa stands on the unassailable ground of aboriginal right. No one has a right to the possession and government of Great Britain but its aboriginal people. No one has a right to China or Japan but its aboriginal people. By the same reasoning no one has a right to possess or rule Africa but the sons of Hara, the aboriginal owners. Our birthright has been stolen from us by our white brother, but the whale will have to disgorge Jonah. Let them seperate the sons of Ham far from their ancestral land. Let them curtail the rights and privileges of the natives on their own soil. They are but sowing the wind, and in the fullness of time will reap the whirlwind. For a longer or shorter period Africans at home and Africans abroad will have to suffer humiliation of every sort, but from being "a man of sorrows and afflicted with grief," the Negro will become the resurrected and conquering hero. Must Co-operate With God But we shall fail in our destiny if we do not co-operate with God. Princes shall never come out of Egypt so long as Ethiopia fails to stretch out her hands to God—to take hold with God. This is the only way in which the program will be executed. We can shut until doomday "Africa for the Africans," but this slogan alone will not achieve the result. Neither is Almighty God going to speak the word, as He did at Creation's morn when He commanded "Let there be light," and there was light. Tahiti is ours. The Congo is ours. Dahomey is ours. South Africa is ours. All Africa is ours. To claim it, to make effort to repossess it is no crime, and only cowards will do less. Nay, we are no men if we cannot claim, and defend, and die for our motherland, Africa. There is no individual to be dripped and commissicated half so much as the man without a country and a homeland. The birds of the air defend their nests. The beasts of the jungle protect their hairs, and by the eternal heavens let white men, yellow men, brown men, red men and black men defend their habitat. Crusade of Righteousness We of the Universal Negro improvement Association have declared our purpose, our solemn vow in this connection, "Africa for Africans" is no joke with us and we are to judge, the excitement in Europe over Harvey and this organization, they don't regard it as a joke there. Neither, this is a crusade of righteousness and every Negro should enlist in the righteous cause. Nobody need think that this movement is collapsing. Not for a moment. Its ramifications have extended into the very heart of Africa, and millions are being added annually to the convicts and disciples of Harvey. There is no such thing as failure for this movement. There may be temporary setbacks and embarrassments, but they are all parts of the program, and they all have their purpose. Just stand together, my fellowmen. Enrich any sign of internal division and strife, and keep your minds your hearts and your hands set up attaching the goals. Get back to the fundamental principles of this organization, get back to its aims and objects as set forth in our constitution. Let us hear more speeches about the Negro—his God, his leader, his aim, his destiny, "I believe in God, and I believe in the Negro race." With me next to God, it is my race. First, race last race always. Some matter that, I am wrong, that there is only one race, the human race, and that I should not stress the Negro race, since it is only a "group"—our group of the human family, I know all that my friends, but until the other follows admit and recognize the equality of all men, and especially of the darker races. I refuse to be an idolist, I refuse as a Negro to describe myself as cosmopolitan. Recently American publications have been emphasizing "America First." Some of these publications carry as a hepine this significant expression: "My country, may she ever be right, but right or wrong my country." To be frank! I like the spirit behind that expression. Some day when we shall come into our own in Africa, Negroes shall say the same thing, but until our destiny is consummated, we sons of Ham must sacrifice for country. To that end, I declare, in concluding this book, "My race, may it always be right, but right or wrong, MY RACE." PROF. RENE MARRALET SPEAKS Professor Morralet, who has just arrived from France, on being introduced said there were two things he noticed since his arrival in New York City: one was that all the people had gone insane over the color question—he referred to the Rhinelander case, and the other was the greater union and co-operation among the colored people of the city. Proceeding, he said that some five or six years ago, about the time of the formation of the Universal Negro improvement. Association, swalking through the streets of France he noticed that at some of the best colleges, including the 'college of France', one of the large institutions of the world, several African dialects were taught. And it occurred to him that the colored man must be playing a very great part in the Eastern civilization for these languages to be taught in the schools. So after some reflection he made up his mind to visit Africa. I had a chance to see the many Roman ruins in North Africa. I visited Car- EX-SLAVE LEAVES $30,000 ESTATE One of the Last of the 'Mannies' Dies: Mourned by Wealthy Whites for Whom She Worked. DANVILLE, Ky. Nov. 25. The co-ord wealthiest Negro ex-slave in Kentucky has just died and the greater part of this old Southern town, found up in its Southern tradition, mourned her. She was Kate Whelen, who all hop life had either been a slave or connected as a def瑟 with many of the town's leading families. All the Negroes and every white person who knew her had the utmost respect and admiration for her, one of the last of the old time "mammates." Kate for years lived in an old frame dwelling, which adjoins the white First Christian Church in West Main street. There she churchly visited the establishment of the city's growth and told her house presents a curious contrast to the types of other buildings in the neighborhood. By living in a modest nominee and preaching modest frugality Kate had isolated an estate estimated to be worth $100m. The late George W. Wycher, former president of the Farming National Bank, and Trust Company, was executor and when Wycher died and Berry Tailow became head of the bank he left a surrender of the investment of Kate Wycher's business affairs. Kate was born in Liverpool and before the Civil War Wycher was part of the estate of the late M. Wycher, a wealthy citizen on one hellow day. After she was freed by the war, Kate and her sister Berry lived many years as servants in Dorset home. During the last few years her sister had long since died. Kate had lived as a recluse. thing that fell in the Tunic wars between Home and the Curthighians and I saw in the museum there something of view against interest, because I had read the Romans did not come in contact with the black people because the black people were farther south. But I saw in the museum there a large tome, and on the outside carved in it figure, and from indications it showed that it or three thousand years, and a Black African queen was interred there. French West Africa After several months in North Africa I returned to France, and after another year I found myself on the West coast of Africa. I went to Dakar, to Senegal and I. I also visited the Sudan and went to Timbuktu. In French Africa we have about 13 million black people there. There are dozens and dozens of managers. You must not think the people of Africa are black. About two hundred different languages are spoken. And this I think, makes it comparatively easy for our power with but slight or formation to go in and take the land from the natives. But when I bring volume most was the wonderful world the natives did. The splendid cities and working and dying, some of the most wonderful and original of all, you want to see. You have to be careful, the colored man is mostly white, but you will find the native African one that. LET'S PUT IT OVER CAMPAIGN TO SECURE FREEDOM FOR PRESIDENT-GENERAL GARVEY THE campaign launched several weeks ago to create sentiment throughout the country which would urge upon those in authority the justice of extending a pardon to President-General Mareus Garvey, of the Universal Negro Improvement Association, has covered a wide sweep of the country and has borne good fruit wherever the appeal has been made, and we are sure it will continue to do so. Mrs Mayme DeMena and her co-workers have made an eloquent and convincing presentation of the case to many large audiences, which have heard them gladly and signed the petition for pardon with an enthusiasm which showed that their full sympathies were in the act. Keep up the good work all along the line. Every local should be alive to the good work of securing a pardon for President-General Garvey, and we believe that it is, but being alive to the work and doing the thing necessary to give vitality to the work are not the same. The necessary sentiment in favor of the pardon must be created, but the petition for pardon must be signed and filed with the proper authorities. Agitation is one thing; backing up agitation with effort and cash is another thing, but they are complementary and necessary the one to the other. We are all saddened at this season of the year, when the new is crowding out the old, by the absence of the President-General from us. We miss the magic of his personal, touch and appeal, and we go about the work of holding up the organization more with grim determination than with the resolute enthusiasm which moves mountains, if necessary, because of his absence, and we feel on that account to labor all the more zealously to secure his pardon and restoration to the big work he created and fostered and loves so well. DUTCH TYRANNY IN SOUTH AFRICA THE Dutch settlers of South Africa, who dominate in the Union of South Africa, are so shaping matters under the premiership of General Hertzog, as to create a condition of desperation for the native blacks and of imminent danger for the English-speaking portion of the inhabitants. The Dutch have the utmost contempt for the native blacks and their rights, and have so legislated in the union that these latter are really reduced to a condition of involuntary servitude. There are undercurrent mutterings which portend that the black mass is seething with desperation, and that is always a dangerous thing, especially in a situation: where the oppressed outnumber the oppressors twenty to one. The Dutch of the Union of South Africa are a fat-witted, onetrack minded, selfish but who believe that they are the salt of the earth and that if they want what the native blacks have they have only to commandeer it by appropriate legislation, which is easy by reason of the white minority rule which they have established. The President of the National African Congress of the Cape of Good Hope has issued a statement to the effect that the Congress will strenuously oppose Premier Hertzog's proposed policy with regard to the segregation of the natives of the cape and the abolition of the native cape franchise. Meanwhile Premier Hertzog has gone ahead with creating a self-governing colony out of what was once German Southwest Africa, giving them a constitution, as far as the white population is concerned. It is an astonishing fact that there are only 20,000 whites in the colony, only the 6,500 adults among them being entitled to vote, while there are some 200,000 Hottentots, Bushmen and other Negroes in the colony, who are given no part in the voting of the government of the colony, and those who enjoyed some measure of representation in the cape-colony government under the English rule are to be disfranchised and segregated, as they are in the Union of South Africa. The African-National Congress and our esteemed contemporary, The African World, have a big but imperative job in hand to educate the 200,000 native blacks in the new colony as to what are their rights in their relations with the 20,000 whites, who have usurped the lands and destroyed the liberties of the native blacks. We feel sure that our contemporary will buckle to the job and make a finished one of it, although it may take many trials and tribulations in the doing of it. Organize! Agitate!! Protest!! Fight if necessary and when the time is ripe!!!! It is the only way to conquer. And the world does not grow any better in this matter. It has been that way as long ago as we have record. The moral is, of course, have something of your own and be above asking favors of others. How? Deny yourselves and save something, however little, of what you earn, and place it where you can get it when you need it. (From The Washington Tribune) However good our schools and colleges are, they can only refine—make into the greatest usefulness—the raw material that parents send them in their children. It is a debatable question, yet there is much evidence on the affirmative side to prove that man and woman can produce a child with the disposition they desire. It to have, or a genius in the line they have selected for it. These are the men and women who have given the world those who have led it on to bigger and better things. They are the ones whose homes are sufficient—though poverty-stricken, they have built character. Do you belong to a Christmas savings fund club? It has come to be a very popular and convenient way to have a dollar in the Christmas holidays, when everybody wants a spare dollar with which to celebrate. And some who save money in that way do not spend all of it to make merry and to buy necessary things, but reinvest some of the money and let it grow, by additions and drawing interest. It will interest the readers of The Negro World to know that it has been estimated that there are more than 7,000,000 members of the Christmas savings fund clubs in the United States, and that some $314,154,800 will be distributed among them during the present holidays. This is $70,000,000 more than the sum aggregated last year, showing that the club is growing in favor, after fifteen years of trial. Some $35,000,090 will be distributed to members in the New York city district. More than 6,800 banks in the United States are participating in the distribution, of which it is estimated $141,369,600 will be spent in Christmas celebration and $87,963,344 will be re-deposited to savings accounts. It is indeed hard, we admit, for a man to rise, once he has fallen; but, in arising, he proves his worth. We know that economic conditions, of themselves, are not such to promote quietness of spirit nor mental repose. In the poor, struggling homes, there is nothing lovely, nothing secure—fear of landlords, fear of duns, deceit (because deceit is the sole refuge from instant trouble), lies even jettily, theft, if life is to continue possibly. It is these turbulent homes which demoralize the young and handle them, in their seeking of a successful and honorable cagier. Everybody should save something of what he makes. A poor person has lean years all of the time, and the only way he can have fat years at all is to deny himself the pleasure of buying everything he thinks he wants and to buy only the things he must have. It will come hard at first but it will grow easier the longer it is tried and found to be good. Find the way to a savings bank and open an account, however small, and continue to add to it, however small the addition. THEY WANT THE PRISON. LASH RESTORED Yet, it is in these very insufficient homes that an imaginary standard of perfection exists. It is in these homes that parents teach by precepts, not by examples. Christian peoples has been to lessen the horrors of prisons, and to humanize treatment of convicts a great many people are still so savage at heart as to advocate the revival of the whipping post in the North, and the lash and the bloodhound in Southern convict camps. Both may be necessary, but we are unable, to see it because we believe that justice should not be brutal and unusual in its treatment of those unfortunate persons who go wrong and must be separated from their brethren and punished for their criminal acts by the State. The State, meaning the whole people, is the supreme power, and it should be just and not brutal in its treatment of its unfortunate members. Politics-ridden, insincere and time-serving, utterly heterogeneous in their racial mixture and seething with mutual dislikes and distrusts, these insufficient homes do little in creating spiritual communion, and fail utterly to teach that self-rage so vital in the development of that moral sense so essential to the child in enabling it (stand on its feet, face the world, treat others as its equals and to do the right because it prefers right to wrong. Penitentiaries are bad enough at their best, but there is no excuse whatsoever for the convict, lease system and camp. The convicts of the State are farmed out to private persons and corporations, which have no more interest in the convict than to get all of the labor out of him they can. How much labor they can get depends upon the health and disposition of the convict and the lash of the driver. When the convict, white or black, is too sick and weak to work he is whipped to his work until he drubs dead, and then he is dumped into a shallow grave, covered over, and left to rot. This has been shown in the courts to have been the methods employed on the prison farms and the convict-lease camps of Georgia and Florida. There was so much cruelty discovered in the conduct of these prison hells two years ago that public opinion compelled the legislatures to abolish the lash in Georgia and Florida. Just now the lessees of convicts are clamoring in both States for a restoration by the legislature of the lash. Let us make our family life reflect the high ideals of this great republic. Let us cultivate the confidence of our children; create in them a greater willingness to be advised, more diffidence about entering new fields of experience. Let us not do it so as to cause that ridicule, that harshness, which may make them brood and turn against us who have wounded their self-esteem. And finally, let us realize that parental functions are not meant for the bills of the parent, but primarily for the welfare of the offspring. It is our duty to prepare wisely and patiently, our child for an independent life as an individual and a decent moral life as a citizen. HEALTH TOPICS We are still very far from "doing unto others as we would that they should do unto us," There is too much selfishness and greed dominant in the relations of men and of nations. But we must keep on fighting for what is right and proper and humane as against what is unjust, demoralizing and brutal. If we do not, we shall ultimately be submerged and brutalized. The sanic condition prevails everywhere. The good front those who are back and the good should win out in the end, or chaos will come again. By Dr. B. S. HERBEN of the New York Tuberculosis and Health Association Pretend that you have put some chicken eggs into an incubator and leave them there at a constant high temperature for forty-two hours or seventy-two hours—two or three days. At the end of that time you carefully remove one of those eggs and with the gentlest striking of the shell, you can imagine, you break the shell into tiny pieces over one spot and carefully lift the shell from the white membrane beneath it. You must not damage the membrane. Then you very skillfully cut away that membrane from a portion of this surface and lift it off. Underneath you discover the embryo of the chick. It looks like a thin rod-pole curved into a semi-circle. It has a big head and a long tail you say. If you could lift that tiny embryo on to a piece of glass and lay it beneath the powerful lens of the microscope you could plainly see the heart of that young chick heating before your eyes. "In forty-two hours," does NUMBER OF FOREIGN BORN IN NEW YORK CITY IN getting around Greater New York we often wonder who are its 100 per cent, Americans, the natives or the foreign born. It is a problem to get at the answer, as we come in contact with foreigners or those of foreign parentage at every turn, in all of the occupations in which the population is engaged. The foreigners have a very large part of the small business of Greater New York and a big share in the larger business, of whatever sort. They make themselves felt and heard in all of the life of the great city. The Foreign Born American Division of the Episcopal Church has found that there are forty-three separate groupings of Americans of foreign birth or parentage in New York City, speaking more than a score of tongues, and totaling more than 4,300,000 of the population. Negroes and Jews are not rated as foreign. The Italians lead with 800,000, the Germans with 670,000, the Irish with 616,000, and so on down to groups too small to enumerate. It is interesting to note that the races are grouped and that they are instructed in American ways and given all sorts of assistance, there being strong societies among the larger groups which make a business of looking after and caring for the interests of their members. Among themselves it is possible that the Jews are the most numerous of the race groups and among the wealthiest and most helpful in looking after their own, $4,000,000 having been raised among them in four days recently for the support of their united charities. The Negro is just beginning to get the hang of organizing and helping his own, but he should grow in this vital matter, and we think he will. Sooner, probably, in the chick and at least in the third week of life in the human being. Life begins you know the moment the ovum and sperm cell unite. Can you imagine the swiftness with which nature must work to accomplish the making of the wonderfully complex human being in about two hundred and eighty days? The human heart begins as a very simple tube-like organ and gradually develops its four chambers. It commences its work as soon as its walls are complete. In other words, your heart started beating about fifteen weeks before the physician could detect the sound of it. The sound of the heart beat can be heard in about the fifth month of the life of the embryo. It is a mistake to say that the human heart never rests. It beats and then rests and beats again seventy or eighty times a minute. In a person who is resting. WHO ARE OUR BEST FRIENDS? Stop thinking that every time some one entertains a different view from yours, or opposes you for some honor or office, that he or she has it in for you, or that they are your enemies, for they are not. But in most cases they will prove in the end to be your best friends, for they are open-minded and not eaten up with deceit and hypocrisy like most of the supposed friends prove to be. They also are found to be the most useful members of any organization to which they belong, for they are not afraid to speak openly and frankly of them and measures. If the advice of such people were needed, a number of our prominent and influential organizations would not now be losing everything worthwhile but their names. AMERICANS SAID TO BE ENSLAVED BY LAW Kansas Attorney Tells Bar Association Nation Has Become Police Ridden—People Confounded by Multiplicity of Statutes From The New York World *The Ottergha : A river in the Kiff country near which a Riffin market place was recently bombed by French airmen, causing numerous casualties. EMPORIA, KAN. Nov. 24. - The once proud, free citizen of this Republic is now slavelike, cowering and eriling from the police power of the land. We are a police and inspector ridden people." Thus spoke Harold C. McGugin, veteran attorney of Kansas, in an address before the Kansas State Her Association today, which took the form of a sweeping denunciation of the tyranny of the law. Mr. McGugin was one of the first lawyers in Kansas to wage a fight against the Ku Klux Klan. He is a Republican, but in the last campaign he supported William Allen White for governor. Every man, the speaker said, fears each stranger who approaches is coming to enforce a law. "The citizen of today no longer cries, for justice or right when faced with these governmental agents, said Mr. McGinning, but his hands are up, his pockets are emptied and he is willing that these collectors and inspectors take toll as they demand: if only fines. "I make hold the assertion," he continued, "that there is not a police force in a town of Kansas of over 5,000 people but will, during the next year, use a raiding warrant as a mere subterfuge to raid, humiliate and terrorize some citizen who has gained the ill will of some petty policemen." This, he said, was not only true of Kansas but of every other State where "mallocious raids" can be based on some law. In opening his address Mr. McGuffin pointed out how congress has been grinding out legislation almost continually since 1948. There are now, he said, no less than 15,000 sections of the EDITORIAL OPINION OF THE NEGRO PRESS If we would be really thankful we must be wise enough to look beyond the moment to the needs of time to come and use every God-given once-faculty and opportunity to that end. What have we done with our time, minds, muscles and opportunities during this year under God's guidance to relieve ourselves of the hardships or handicaps to which we have been subjected.—Boston Chronicle. Justice is justice, but certainly injustice is not. It is an elemental principle that all men are entitled to it. Justice, real justice, never permits nationality of the plaintiff and defendant to affect her consideration of the testimony and her final verdict. It is simply a reiteration to say that the colored man in America only asks for justice.—Louisville Leader. The Church has a wonderful opportunity and a tremendous responsibility in shaping the dealing of fifteen millions of American people who, as a general proposition, have chosen this avenue as their guide. This is altogether complimentary and encouraging on the part of our race and the spirit should be cultivated. Warning should be given and counsel should be bad that the highest and best expressions be made from our pulpits and through our church agencies — Birmingham Reporter. The wisest man may be wiser today than he was yesterday and tomorrow than he is today. Total freedom from change would imply total freedom from error; but this is the proximate of Ouandaegoee alone. — Madhville Church. Every mortal has his vulnerable spot in which he may be mortally wounded as to his moral character, which he would push all over him absolutely upon the limits of ethics, urging him to show themselves an action. He is public, not private. Knowledge of the State is obligatory. United States statutes. Coupled with this there are 11,000 sections of the State statutes. He said in part: "These various statutes are so complex that no two courts will seldom reach a like construction. The Federal statutes reach such great numbers that no lawyer in America has a comprehensive knowledge of them. Some lawyers may be expert in finding them in the sense that some birddog might be expert in finding quail but these lawyers no more know the statutes than the birddog knows the number of quail in the cover he is painting." Mr. McGinnis deplored the legal maxim which sets forth that ignorance of the law is no excuse. In view of these volumes upon volumes of law, many of them beyond comprehension, he said it would be an absurdity to invoke the maxim and it does violence to reason. 4.300.000 FOREIGN BORN IN NEW YORK There are forty-three separate and distinct, groupings of Americans of foreign birth or parentage in New York city, speaking more than a score of tongues, and totaling more than 4,300,000 of the population of the metropolis, according to². A glance over the list of foreign born groupings here show that, excluding Jews, there are in round numbers 800,000 Ballots in New York, 670,000 Germans, 616,000 Irish, 150,000 Poles, 137,000 English, 89,000 Meyagans, the game number of Czechoslovakians, 50,000 Russians, Esperant and Swedish respectively, 29,000 Syrians, 16,000 Chinese, 8,000 Armenians, 3,000 Japanese, 2,000 Turks and so on down the list to 345,000 smaller nationalities unassisted, all of them either of foreign birth or parentage. Certain English dreadfuls make a practice of spreading through their pages vast detail of divorce cases, regardless of the issues involved, and merely for the sake of evidence. No fictionist could have created a trial more calculated to hold the attention. And I deny that this public interest is merely morbid. There are innumerable factors in the business which concerns us all. We really ought to decide sooner or later whether we are to be governed by what we say or by the various finger crossings which accompany the protestations of complete democracy. To a non-legal mind even the main point at issue in the Rhinelander case is puzzling—and I don't mean because it has been so much obscured by irrelevant testimony. The Southern States have laws to forbid miscognition. That may be wise or foolish, but it is at least a frank and definite expression of the point of view of the community. But no such belief in the danger of mixed blood has been expressed in our local legislation. The contrast between the financial status of those concerned makes it highly proper that this case should not be settled in an obscure corner. Any such procedure would set an evil precedent. And again, I think that the course of the Rhineland case serves to bring to acute-public attention which that rilly and cumbersome in our procedure. These courts belong to us. If in our taxes which go to pay the salaries of the men on the bench, and speaking for one contributor to the public funds, I must say I am appalled with the clear frivolity and waste of time which is permitted. I don't care what the legal precedents and public procedure may be. If it is sound law to let counsel go so far asfield as both have done in this case, then the law should be changed. When I paid my taxes I had no notion that I was being called upon to contribute to a fund for fireworks. Aside from its meanness, I can't for the life of me understand what purpose Judge Mills had in inquiring into the early transgressions of Mrs. Jones. And likewise I am equally at sea as to the importance of the question, often repeated by Mr. Davis for the defense, "And do you consider yourself a gentleman?" The case can hardly depend upon the problem of whether young Mr. Rhinolander is a gentleman or even whether he considers blimsn to be one. I'm not saying that I have no interest in the question "What is a gentleman and is it a good thing to be?" All I am contending is that this is hardly pertinent at the moment. If Mr. Davis arises to debate the matter with Mr. Rhinolander after hours I should be much interested to listen. Among other things the institution of wealth is being tried in the Rhineland case. Old Railroad Caboose Served Peary in Arctic An old-time Erie Railroad caboose that has been in Arctic regions for four years sits on a siding alongside the Erie station at Susquehanna, Pa. On it is the following inscription: "This caboose was loaned Lleut. Peary by the Erie Railroad and went on his expedition in 1889; was used as a deckhouse on the ship Windward, and it is the only railroad car ever sent to the Arctic regions." A great, many people make day dreams a substitute for work. They imagine themselves winning their ambitions, instead of getting down to business and working mighty hard. Garland Anderson, the bellhop from San Francisco, who was the first colored man to have a play produced on Broadway, dreamed his dream and then, never losing sight of that dream, fought with everything that was in him to make it real. He's still fighting. The play, "Appearances," closed after a three weeks' run at the Froyle Theatre because of insufficient funds. But Garland Anderson wouldn't give up. Armed with a subscription list he is patiently making the rounds in an effort to raise the almost impossible sum of $20,000. This gum he says, will be sufficient to give the play a chance, it deserves David Belasco's name heads the subscription list" with $1,000. Channing Pollack and Al Jolson have pledged a like amount. Anderson's philosophy is: "It's up to you. A man can make anything, out of himself, he wants. If you want to do anything, hard enough, why you just can't hard doing it." That gave Anderson an idea. He decided to put his philosophy into the form of a play. At night he tendered switchboard. And for three years, between putting in calls, he rebilled. He wrote his own story—the story of a bellion who influences the lives of the people with whom he comes in contact. When the play was finished he took it to New York and, after months of discouragement, found a producer. On the opening night, a sophisticated New York guy up from their seats and yelled. It is a comic thing or certain papers to comment upon how much money I made out of my plays while they make money out of that kind of thing. DIVISIONS Sunday, November 1, Garvey Day, will go down in history for the Havana Division No. 24 of the U. N. I. A. One of the biggest mass meetings ever engaged, in honor of the great Negro leader, the Hon. Marcus Garvey, was recorded on Sunday, November 1. Negroes came from all corners of beautiful Havana to endorse the program of the Universal Negro Improvement Association, and to tell the world that the Hon. Marcus Garvey is the accepted leader of the Negro race. Never has more enthusiasm been shown at our Liberty Hall. Negroes of Havana felt it was their duty to approve of the resolution sent to the Department of Justice calling "We want no other leader but Marcus Garvey." It is our common duty to uphold the principles of the U. N. I. A. and support same as much as we possibly can for we are aware of the fact that the time is not far off when the Negro shall hold its own irrespective of the many obstacles and embarrassments. The officers, well-wishers and friends of the Hon. Marcus Garvey and the Universal Negro Improvement Association planned their all in to all stand by him and hold the banner, high until African Americans and 400 millions of Negroes are free. In spite of the heat, everyone sat patiently with raft attention from the sound of the gravel at 5 p.m. to 11 p.m. to listen to the doctrines of Garveyism. Addresses were delivered in this style. The same kind of the division gave several sweet selections, but the chief events were those of the Juveniles with their rebellations and demonstrations. Selected pieces were rendered by Messers Doth and Mackenzie. Inspiration from the Hon. Marcus Garvey ran wild and high. His spiritual self was present and from the eloquent and descriptive addresses delivered on the occasion, it could be seen that the grecketers were students of the great Negro teacher. The speakers from time to time outlined the alms and objects of the association, and the cause of Garvey's imprisonment. The most severe crimes were compelled to change their sentiments in favor of Garvey and the organization. From the tenor of the meeting, the reporter has every reason to believe that a new star is shining over the Havana Division, and on long the harvest shall be rapped. A large number of the people present on this occasion were then members. They declared to keep away from Liberty Hall would be doing injustice to the Hon. Marcus Garvey and the rights. They have fully endorsed the program and have promised to become native members at the earliest opportunity. "Marcus Garvey is the man of the hour and every Negro should stand by him," were remarks heard during the meeting. The program was well rendered. The nurses under the leadership of the lady president, Mrs. U. Johnson Brown, and Mrs. Ethel Myers, president of the unit. The Boy Scouts and Girls Guides, under Acting Ltent, Edwards and Private Rennle, with the executive officers, marched from the office to the hall while the Processional Hymn "Shine Qn, Eternal Light." was sung. This was followed by the singing of the opening ode, "From Greenland's Ice Mountains," and the retiation of the 23d Psalm. The religious part of the program was conducted by the acting chaplain, Mr. Samuel Greenidge, who took his text from St. John. His sermon was brief, but weighs. Recitations by the juveniles were delivered with marked enclosure. Démonstrations by the Scouts were of a colorful type. They handled themselves like veterans. To mention any special names of the juveniles relative to their performances on the platform sema unfair as every one did their best, and were much applauded and enclosed. Sr. Juan Bravo was chairman of the meeting. The executive secretary was the chief speaker. His subject was "Facts and Ideals of Carveyism," in part he said, "Carveyism" calls for true leadership, men and women with vision and purpose, honesty of purpose, sincerity, services, sacrifice, loyalty truthfulness, perceptive energy, originating force, love and substantial driving power as possessed by the Hon. Marcus Carvey." Mrs. Iosnecne Tennison, of the Gunambaca Division, spoke of, "The Value of Negro Womanhood." Marked intelligence was displayed in her argument. Women of her type will always be an asset to the Negro race. Hymn, "God Bless Our President," was sung after which the acting chaplain introduced Sr. Juan Bravo as chairman of the evening. At this juncture Sr. Bravo made a few remarks in English and Spanish, explaining the object of the meeting after which a lengthy program was rendered. The president presented a resolution to be sent to the Department of Justice at Washington, D. C. It was read by him in English and by Sr. Bravo in Spanish as follows: Whereas His Excellency, the Hon. Marcus Harvey has given us the only program which, if supported by us, shall enable us self-supporting and self-employed. Honoring that the white world be made up of but the black, men- sualized, black man, who represents the men of Wilmington, No. 39 remembers no person but the Men. Marvin Gar- rison, a member of the Men. Marvin Gar- rison ing and to the members and friends who contributed to the program and the audience in general for the meeting and the plausible shown during the meeting. The meeting came to a close by the singing of the Ethiopian National Anthem and prayer by the acting chaplain. Thus ends a perfect ten. A very enthusiastic mass, meeting was held on Sunday, November 22, at Algrity Hall. Many interesting addresses were delivered by members of the division. Meeting was opened by the chapman, Ben, A. L. Harrison. The final page message in the Negro World was read by the third lady who president, Mrs. Dodge McIntosh, followed by a short address by Mr. Henry Alfred, second lady president. At this point the band played a special selection. Hon. Attorney Milton Van Lowe was presented to the audience by the president, Hon. Fred. E. Johnson. Attorney Van Lowe made a stirring address. In summary he said: "I am always stirred when I enter Life, Hall. I am and will always be interested in progress of the U. N. L. A. My whole soul is in this organization. It is an upbuff to humanity and to our race. In working for the organization I am working for my race. It makes my very soul boil when I come in contact with enemies of Marissa Garvey." At the close of Mr. Van Law's address he presented, the principal speaker of the evening, Hon. J. A. Craiken, who said: "The U. N. L. A. is the best thing in the world for Negroes. Marcus Garvey has convinced the whole world of what the white race intends to do to the Negro. The U. N. L. A. is asking sincere members to keep up the light they have stirred." Shogi address was given by Capt. T. R. Dent, Mr. Dent said: "Negroes have come to the conclusion that Africa is the only hope for the Negro. Garveyism is so strong that it is getting into the hearts of those who have been so opposed to the movement. The black race is going to forget the prejudice and malice which is in their hearts and minds and cry aloud 'four million strong' in one voice that if women of other races are accorded the respect by the nations of the world, my women must be accorded the same or we will die." The Royal Embassy of the United Division are doing great things. They have a modern equipped unmobility shop, and experts for developing and commercializing inventions. In celebrating Garvey Day and witnessing the opening of Liberty Hall. There was a great rally to ophage our ball. Though there have been many disqualitions we have reached our goal. The Alliance Division held a special mass meeting in the interest of the Marcus Garvey Release Campaign on Sunday, November 8. The principal speaker was Elder J. V. Barber, Mayor B. W. Stephens was also a visitor and speaker. The meeting opened with religious service and the reading of the alms and object of the Universal Negro Improvement Association. After a song by the choir, the front page message of the president general in the Warrior World was penned. It was received with much applause. Revenues thereby made a monument was permanently honoring. The magnificence covered all information in which the president made statements. The Mayor also gave two salutations. At the conclusion of the session, the Governor of the Department, Mr. George W. Garvey, said that well-wishings were received from the public. CHICAGO, ILL The development of Chicago Division during the past few weeks in the whole very gratifying. This particularly noticeable in the increased interest being manifested in the various auxiliaries. The Legions, under the guidance of Cbl. Leonidas McDpnail, bids fair to become one of the most outstanding military organizations in the Universal Negro Improvement Association. Our mass meetings have been well attended. Sunday we had an unusually large attendance. President Hon. W. A. Wallace delivered an inspiring address with his usual eloquence. It was filled with wholesome instruction and voiced his insurveying faith in the ultimate success of the program of our beloved organization. Interesting addresses were also delivered by Mrs. A. Hogues and Mrs. Lula White. Specific mention should be made of a very commendable feature of the program, which was the musical and vocal selections rendered by the Juveniles. They were enjoyed by all present. The president general's address read from the columns of The Negro World by Second Vice President Frank Farrell seemed to be more enjoyed than ever. It served as a very direct discouragement of backering and petty jealousies, occasionally grapping out among some of our over-zealous leaders. And we suggest here that the members and friends of the Universal Negro Improvement Association and African Commodities Learners watch the columns of the Negro World more closely in order to derive the full benefit from the wisdom and news contained therein. The information in it is worthy of your most serious consideration. Next week we shall send special news of the activities of the Black Cross Nurses of Chicago Division. We wish to announce the coming of the secretary-general, Hon. G. E. Carter, on December 6, and Mrs. Domena on December 13. It has been reported that our ex-president, Hon. Dr. J. J. Robertson was the honored guest of the Winnipeg Division on Saturday, October 25. He delivered a fine address which resulted in the addition of several new members. Reporter HERMON MILLER DIES IN BROOKLYN It is with regret that we note the death of Hermon Alpheus Miller at the Methodist Episcopal Hospital, Brooklyn, on November 14, 1925. Mr. Miller was hurt by an automobile on October 29, 1925, receiving a compound fracture of the left leg. He was taken to the Coney Island Hospital, where he remained about 10 days and was later removed to the Methodist Hospital, where he underwent an operation. He was called to rest nine days after the operation. He was the son of the late James Thomas Miller and Catherine Miller, being the eldest of eight children. He is survived by a mother, four brothers and three sisters. Funeral services were held at the residence of his mother, 751 De Kahl Avenue, Brooklyn, on Monday evening, Nov. 16, Rev. S. E. Morris, former Moorish minister in the Island of Trifida, officiated. Interment was at Evergreen Cemetery. Brooklyn, on November 17. A large number of relatives and friends of the deceased attended the funeral services, among whom were the immediate family of the deceased, numbering twelve persons, and over two hundred others, whose names are too numerous to mention here. Suggestions for improving the calendar now in use, are invited by the committee on calendar simplification of the Merchants' Association, which will hold a public hearing on that subject in the assembly room of the association in the Woolworth building at 2:15 p.m. in the afternoon of December 11. It further suggests that the calendar have four equal quarters of the year, each quarter including three months of thirty, thirty and thirty-one days. Mrs. T. DeMena said in part as follows: Mr. President, Officers, Members of the Universal Negro Improvement Association, Ladies and Gentlemen; "My subject to night is 'Let him go—free him.' There is no age in all the world recorded in history that leaders did not have to make it contribution to build up nations towards the freeing of oppressed people. The Universal Negro Improvement Association was organized just seven years ago in this country; the purpose of awakening interest in the bloom of the black man toward a new radial consciousness that would make them feel regardless of color of skin and texture of hair; that he is just as good as any other race of people. Hay algunos quienes por su propio personal objetivo persiguen desorientar la raza, para así explotarla a su antojo. A estos elementos les importa muy poco lo que el futuro tiene almacenado para nosotros. La mitia que cunde entre muchos de nuestros leaders, no significa otra cosa sino ruina para la raza en general.
