Prof. B. K. Bruce, Noted Kansas Educator, Best in the Business.
The following article in reference to Prof B. K. Bruce is taken from the Fort Leavenworth News, and speaks volumes of the exceptional ability of one of the country's foremost educators He is the only man of his race thus engaged and has distanced all of his white brothers. Mr. Bruce is principal of the Leavenworth public schools and is well known throughout the state:
The success of Geo. Pulaifer, Jr., and Harrison Hermann in being in being among the ten successful candidates in a class of thirty taking the examination for entrance to the Military Academy at West Point, New York, again demonstrates the remarkable ability of Prof. B K. Bruce of Leavenworth, Kansas who was their instructor for this special examination.
Throughout the entire United States Army Prof Bruce is known as one of the best instructors of candidates for commission. This reputation is his owing to the fact that during the past twelve years he has instructed more candidates than have successfully passed the examination and received appointment as a second lieutenant that other men in the states.
has high reliability but to the system the course of action which is most appropriate with the regular government those competitive institutions. No time is wasted on it, the process being that of a teaching or touching nature, for the candidate who is making the and dash. Prof. Bruce makes a specialty of instructing men who come in the army with the expoint intention of going up for a commission when they have served the required period, and some of these have been members of business for two years prior to taking the examination. His success with men who have given him an opportunity to properly prepare them has been marvelous in that he has never had a failure.
He has testimonials from the highest ranking officers in the service commending him in no uncertain time, upon his ability as an instructor in the various subjects of the examination for a commission as well as the written pointers on the military service no doubt at the success of the prospective officer."

It was a source of pleasure to meet Prof J. D. Bowser, principal of Attucks school. He is a polished gentleman and educator and one of the oldest teachers in point of service in Kansas City. He began teaching in this city September 1, 1863, and has taught continuously. He is a man who stands for all that is good and for the advancement of our race. His reputation is as clear and bright as the noon-day sun, which accounts for his continuous teaching in the public schools. He was North Carolina by birth. He was the age of six weeks when taken by his parents to Ontario. Prof Bowser has been a resident of Kansas City for forty-three years. He was one of the best prophets there. He has home-built tenements in 1823. He being provident, he is stillifiable with one fine living and cultural and ladies of Missouri. He has mastered the art of her progress and growth and accumulated some of its wealth which he others have failed to use in their opportunities. Prof Bowser to a one extended trip to Europe last year, and enjoyed it so well that he will take another, as compelled by his wife. The school of which he is principal is located at Nineteenth, and Woodland and cost $49,300. Among his pupils during the early days were H. R. Graham, J. Suss Harris of Kansas City and Mrs. Mahamatt, formerly of Omaha, Neor., all of whom are well upon age.
Oklahoma Politics.
MAJOR GEORGE F BUCHER is the people's choice for commissioner under the new form of government
Muskogee, having adopted the commission form of government, will soon have election for commissioners at mayor. Many can indicate have entered the field, some have already been endorsed by the charter government league, but none of them are in the hearts of the people than Mr. Burcher, former councilman, and candidate for commissioner from the second commissioner's district.
Major Burch is a native of Illinois. He served with distinction in the Union army and came to the old Indian territory to make his home. Since the day of his arrival Lero Mingges has been largely helped by its energetic endeavors to
in ke this city a better. larger and more prosperous community. Owing to his foreight and businessomen, several of Michigan a large and wealthy additions were opened to settlement and placed on the market. Bucher's addition and Ceasar addition are all the products of his master mind. He has platt c. and and soaped these important additions to Michigan thereby adding largely to the city's wealth and population and endearing himself to thousands of her citizens who by his business foreight and liberal dealings have been enabled to purchase homes for themselves and families
He was the choice of the Republi ans of North Muskoges for delegate to the constitutional convention, but owing to certain conditions, witn drew before the election.
After statehood he was elected councilman from the fourth ward of Muskogee. No councilman was more jealous in his duties nor represented his constituents more faithfully than Major Bucher. His keen judgment business ability and political erience enabled him to secure more improvements for his ward than any of his predecessors and the fact that the fourth ward has so many public improvements is due to him more so than any other councilman that has represented the said ward.
When the commission form of government was adopted by the city the voters of the fourth ward almost to a man, remembering the services of Major Bucher, requested him to become a candidate. No incessant was this demand that Major Bucher consented to run as an independent. There is no doubt of his election. He is essentially Mushogee's candidate, running in the interest of greater Mushogee, and on his the people's choice responses of polls there is no question of that he will poll one of the largest votes cast for any candidate at the election. April 10, 1800, in an uneventful gee, but the entire state of Ohio would not receive theerst and worth of this man.
L. S. HAMLR.
was born and raised in Iowa coming to Muskegee town a years ago. It has been identified with the business in terests of the city since coming here, owning large farming interests as well as city property. Business of the city will be safe in his hands as a commissioner of this city. He believes in protecting the owners of small homes by giving them low taxes and economy in the management of city government the same as if it was his own property. Any man who makes a success of his own business is the proper man to handle the affairs of the people.
ANNOUNCEMENT.
I hereby announce myself as a candidate for commissioner from the second district, subject to the action of the voters of Muskogee at the election to be held April I desire to represent all the people and to build a Greater Muskogee. I am in the race to stay.

A BIGLY-PRIED SOUVENIR.
When William T. Vernon decided to give up his position as registrar of the treasury, he wanted to take with him as a servant of his public service the first bank note on which he had put his signature. All the money raised in the form of bans now which he had been reg. had, a constant of a sum.
In money having been put into circulation, had been sent back to the army. Reduced by new moves, and then had been moved for extract to be sent to the maritor. That one, the only way he could get the old note he wanted was to in common know. I 'd had high al that he could afford to pay one dollar for the old, worn on one dollar more.
Having been informed by the treasurer's officer that he would get the first notice he ever sign'd he would call for it and redeem it with new money. He went to meet a treasurer.
"Here you are, Mr. Vernon." said that official.
"All right," said Vernon. 'I'll redeem it."
He had already taken out his pocketbook when he chanced to glance at the old bank not. Then he awayed as if he had been struck in the face.

INDUSTRIAL INSTITUTE.
Major J. Shoath of the British army delivered a very interesting and helpful lecture on the tribes and customs of South Africa to our student body Sunday afternoon. The rostrum and walls were covered with curios of all descriptions from that benighted country.
The Careful Builders, an organization composed of the younger class of students, rendered a sacred concert at vesper services Sunday evening. This organization has been under the supervision of Miss M. E. Foster for the past four years, and has proven to be one of the most helpful religious societies of the school. Classes in gardening have begun their practical work. A large plot of ground has been devoted to the class garden.
Improvements are constantly being made along all lines. The boarding department has just installed a latest style, three deck Hubbard oven, which will enable the young women to learn the art of baking, as well as providing the institution with wholesome bread at all times
Rev. and Mrs. A. E. Martin, missionaries to the Soudan district of Africa, spent Friday and Saturday at the institution. The visit was one of missionary spirit from beginning to end. Rev. Martin delivered two addresses to our student body in the auditorium. Mrs. Martin spoke to the young women in the library Friday evening, and held a conference with the lady teachers Saturday morning and later spoke to the entire student body. They were very much pleased with the progress being made by the Africaa boy that they are supporting in this institution.
As a result of the visit of Rev. and Mrs Martin, the young women have organized a missionary circle which will meet every Friday evening for prayer and study of missionary work. It is hoped that it will be productive and stimulate missionary spirit throughout the entire western section.

A ( OLLED ) HERO.
Through darkness, and with girls and men clamoring about him, Jas. McCadden, a Negro elevator operator, kept his car running until the last person had ever taken out. Twelve times McCadden went to the top floor, and each time he carried seventeen to the street, a total of 201
"That's all I had to do with the fire." McCadden said modestly, except that I had one look from a tenth story window just before it started carrying the folly point. I saw a girl come to the edge of the shirtwaist building roof and stand for a moment leaning down. Then she jumped. I did not want to see any more."
The above is taken from the new count of the dreadful fire which occurred last Saturday in a New York shirtwaist factory, when 141 lives, mostly of females, were lost James McCadden deserves the plaudris of the country at large and especially of the race. THIS IS AN "OLD LINE" COMPANY and for the exclusive benefit of the colored people only. This is the first Life Insurance Company on a GUARANTEED or an "old line" basis for chlored people only. There are at present approximately 150 "old line" Life Companies in the United States, owned and operated by white people, and their success has been phenomenal—we give below a statement from Miles M. Dawson, of New York, one of the loading actuaries of the world:
"New York, March 5, 1905.
"I have computed the dividends paid stockholders of old line" Insurance Companies during the 25 years ending December 31, 1904, and find as follows.
"The total dividend paid by fourteen Life Companies upon an investment of stockholders, which at the beginning of twenty five years amounted to $2,987,400 as follows.
Dividend in cash $15,578,521
Stock divided 5,997,700
Total dividend $21,356,221
The population of the United States is approximately 70 million and 20 million colored ensang at the most 70 million white people for the 150 white companies to get their business from or an average of about half million to each company. The colored population, we will say to be conservative, there is only 12 million. From this we will at once see the advantage of about 24 to an favor of the Abraham Lincoln Life Insurance Company and then multiply the results obtained by the white companies by 24 and see what your investment would net you. This stock is going fast. Out of the $100,000 capital and $100,000 surplus, we have subscription for nearly $75,000 or about one-fourth of the issue, so if you want to get in you had better act at once. Stock by 30 per share.
