Fulbright Writes bilities of the Black Mm Crowiem, Grand daffy clause not any other kind of race discrimin nation does not nor will not ever retard the progress of Oklahoma Negroes who are wide awake, up and doing. The race problem to them is a menomer and in fact it is looked upon as a question in which the "survival of the fittest" is involved; and it the Negroes of sister states would analyze it and apply the same method in solving it as the Oklahoma Negroes the world would be revolutionized, the Touchstone of Peace erected on earth, the Fatherhood of God and Brotherhood of man established among men and the "Jion and the lamb would lie down together." These Negatives are doing something, turning up something and shaping the life after the formative present of the Bible They are dipping their buckets in fresh water plunging their plows in new soil, breathing puric "z ne" erect: a few at homes, accumulating real estate, building towns and constructing governments; thereby reducing the far-fetched theory of Negro laziness and incompetency of self government. On every hill in Oklahoma is a school house and in every valley is a church standing as a lighthouse on the banks of the ocean, sending forth her gleams over the dark and turbulent waves, guiding storm tossed waves, guiding storm-tossed travelers into the harbor of tranquility. Though jim crowed as a race, dis frauchized in part and almost legu-lated beyond the pales of American c. t senship they live upon their knees in prayer and keep in touch with God—hoping to see the noon-day sun of equal rights and just privileges burst forth in all pristine spiendor; and while few of them have seen (possibly) their hopes blasted and anticipations shattered, their ambition is not curbed for they are moving forward in the moral intellectual and material realms—overcoming obstacles, hiding themselves beyond the clouds and playing among the stars. At the opening of this country for settlement, a cosmopolitan people from different states flocked here—as to how well they have prospered can beat me told by scrutinizing the statistics and even then, "Not half has ever yet been told." As has been well said, "You may talk about the Negro. You may name his faults infinite. The white man never turns a wheel Without the Negro in it." So, in response to the invitation of Congress the Negro came and at once began putting his very life and toil and means in the development of this new territory, which today stands forth as a monument—the cynosure of the eyes of the civilized world. Among the several towns built by Negro Boley is the most prominent. Seven years ago, what is known as Boley was as an oasis in the desert, but today it is the largest city in America built by Negro hands Negro ingenuity and Negro wealth. It is located in the eastern part of the state on the Ft. Smith and Western railroad, in Okfusgee county, twelve miles west of Okeemah, the county seat. It is inhabited by 3,000 energetic TOPEKA, KANSAS, FRIDAY MORNING, APRIL-8, 1911. Negrcees, owning their homes and heavy taxpayers on adjoining farms. Negro farmers live in a radius of five miles around Boley and I am told if you go northwest from the city you will have to travel fifteen miles before you reach a white man's farm. Boley is comprised of four districts and the Boleyit a pay taxes on $50,000 worth of property. They have to credit the Farmers' and Merchants' bank with a capital stock of $20,000 with 75,000 deposited to date. Officers J H Williamson, president, T. V. Haynes vice president; D. J. Turver, cashier; Jones, bookkeeper. The Boley Telephone Co. capitalized at $4,200 is a first class system operated by Negroes as there is now a white man in Boley. The railroad station is operated and managed by Negroes and so is the electric plant The Seminole college for Negroes and Indians, together with a $2,000 modern built and equipped brick high school, graced by the erection of four good and substantial churches adds to the beauty and worth of Boley. The Masons of the state are preparing to erect a three story temple at a cost of $50,000 which will make the city stand at the ideal Negro city of America. Among the notable characters of Boley may be mentioned E. L. Lugrand, who owns four hundred acres of land rated at $20,000. J. H. Williamson, president of the bank, who is worth $20,000. James Barnett, merchant, worth $20,000 Samuel Callahan owns four hundred acres of land, has $4,000 loan ed out and buys and sells mules, horses, jacks and jennies. D. J. Turner, cashier of the bank, is rated at $20,000 and owns a model residence and one of the finest drug stores in the city. Haynes, founder of Boley and vice president of the bank, has made good. Eleven years ago he walked from Paris, Texas, to Oklahoma City, where he remained for four years. He then removed to the Creek nation and squatted on some land where Boley now stands; he only had $650 in money, but the lack of means was made up by a surplus amount of manhood, character, grit, "stick to it ness" and faith in God; and today the city of Boley stands as a monument to his honor. Besides being rated above $20,000 he, with the Hon. D. J. Turner, his associate in real estate, owns and controls many hundred acres of farming land, which they will sell or rent or lease to any one desiring land. Mr Dolpain owns twenty farms and is reputed to be the wealthiest Negro in Boley or even in Okfuskee county. W. L. Woods ex member of the famous Twenty fifth U. S infantry, owns and operates the largest wholesale and retail establishment and is rated at $15 000 Burnett Bros. own a large wholesale and retail establishment and are rated at $20,000. They have a modern residence in construction which will be illuminated with electricity Messrs. Coz'ne and H. C. Glaze are prominent merchants and with T B. Armstrong, who is worth his thousands, the people of Boley shall not not hunger for good. One thing however, I must say that Bolevites are the most hospitable people in Oklahoma as was evidence in the cordial welcome and entertainment of our State Teachers' association February 22-24 at which 50 teachers were present, and each one desires to return. Wita Mr. Webb as mayor, Prof. Jones, postmaster, Hon. J. C. Leftwith, president of Seminole college, Prof. Watson, principal of High school, and other prominent men and women at the head of the church and government, I see nothing but greater Roley in the future. E church and administrator of the late Bishop Grant's estate, will be one of the new bishops to be elected at the next general conference which convenes in Kansas City, Mo., in 1912. He is one of the best financiers of the Negro race. Since taking the office he now holds, he has saved and banked more than thirty thousand dollars. Rev. Hurst is located in M. REV JOHN W. DURST Washington, D.C. He is an educated, honest upright Christian gentleman who would grace any Christian organization in the world by being placed at its head. The entire church is pushing him which assures his being made bishop. He is master of several languages and highly cultured. Fake Order About "all In." Bablon is falling! Bablon is falling! The two Jim's order known as the Knights and Ladies of Protection have filed their annual statement with the commissioner of insurance. Money in bank $295.20 and 150 23 rolling around in the office of "Little Jim Guy and also a note given by Elisha Scott, the company's traveling agent for $3.10. To offset this they owe a claim of $200 and a sick benefit claim of $20. If these claims were paid it would leave a balance of $1720 and the $.50 trotting around in "Little Jim Guy's office trying to cater "Scotty's" note. They are so mixed up that neither can get into the Laws. The order is on the wave—membership falling off rapidly. They have over forty-five thousand dollars worth of outstanding policies with only 200 members to bear the burden. They claim to have $275 in furniture and fixtures. We will give $5 to the Old Folks' Home at Leavenworth and $5 to the home for fallen girls at Topeka if they can show $100 in furniture and fixtures owned by the order and double the amount if there can be found $275 worth including "Little Jim's furniture and if pushed would include the library. "Big" Jim Mason awore to a complaint: c. Kansas City Kansas charging it with malicious libel. NO JIM CROW CARS IN KANSAS. Judge W P Dillard was down at Pittsburg a few days ago, acting as attorney for the Missouri Pacific in a law suit at that place. The basis of suit was a fact that a brakeman had made a Negro woman take a seat in a smoker, when she wished to enter the chair car. The woman sued the company for $2,000 and went to court. The jury allowed her $500. Judge Dillard defended the company. The verdict against the company came as a surprise to many attorneys who were present. Ift. Scott Monitor. LAWRENCE. KANSAS.
