Durant Oklahoma's Terrible Crime!
A Gang of Savage Brutes Kill an Unknown Negro in a Running Fight, Photograph Him and Finish the Job by Burning the Body!
By Their Silence, They Condone This Most Inhuman and Brutal of all Murders.
Negroes, Check This Matter up to President Taft!
The late Senator John J. Ingalls once said: "The Bible and hymn book are all well enough; what the African race needs is another Toussiant L'Overture with the blood stained banner of revolution and the torch and sword." This state of affairs has become unbearable, and the black man must learn to give a white man's measure in everything. The law is blind in dealing with blacks, hence they must protect themselves.
No Trouble to Identify Murderers
The picture shows the brutes with their victim before his body was burned. They posed especially for this photograph and it is no trouble to identify any of them, yet officials in Oklahoma say they cannot find a single soul that was connected with the inhuman affair. What is the matter with Governor Cruse and the thousands of white hypocrites who masquerade as Christians? What is left for the blacks to do but FIGHT rather than be slaughtered like Dogs?

Since the state of Oklahoma will not act, it is the duty of the President and the national government to act, and the Negroes throughout the nation are watching their every move with deep interest. Something MUST be done! Will they act or continue to sit in silence?

At Durant, Oklahoma, Oct. 13, '11, this poor, defenseless fellow was killed in a running battle, simply because a colored man had been accused of committing a crime. A stranger in a strange land, his supposed victim viewed the body and there was nothing left for her to do but claim the mob had the right man.
Lashed to a board and photographed, they piled fagots around him and danced in drunken dismay around the burning body of their victim. Where are the white ministers and Christian workers who are bent on Christianizing the heathen Chinese? They are quiet as clams and by their silence condone the action of these semi-savages.

"Johnny, come along. You've been so bad I'm going to lo k you up in the cellar"
"Why, my, you wouldn't have any bad apples down cellar, would you?"
"Certainly not."
"Only good apples in down cellar, don't they?"
"Of course."
"Is it the good apples or the good cellar that makes the life good?"

Nothing else should be stored in it. Its walls should at least be twenty inches thick, and it should have abundant windows to be kept open all summer to draft of air and kept on their free of any dry. There should be no mould boards or any small of mould; in other words the air should be it to breathe.
When the apples are stored the draft should be stopped, and when stocks old sets in you should shut the door for shut, and let it stay closed until May. You can place such a unit as this conveniently under part of your latrine, porch, or detached your house on there should be set the adjacent. Of course every apple grown on the
farm will be worth putting down
cellar, but the lower qualities are
worth going into older if they could
be so the usually pressed as to extract
all the sugar instead of leaving a big
proportion of it in the potence.
"Three pounds of sugar to a bushel of apples is a high result with the or diary hand mills. But with an eighty ten hydraulic press I have been able to recover four gallons of juice from fifty pounds of fruit, double the quantity I could recover with the hand mills, and yet I left in the pulp at about 12 per cent of the juice," says Professor W. B. Alwood of the United States department of agriculture.
"Practically 25 per cent of the total weight of apples went out in pomace, or from 1 to 5 per cent of the sugar. With the best power mills under a most efficient working system it is certain that practically 5 per cent of sugar is grown out in the pomace.
"There are something like Sinnott's instillations of apples worked up every crop year in New York state one for 15 products. If we assume that 25 per cent of this fruit will be left in the pomees we will have about 60 per cent of pomees, which will contain about 500 pounds of sugar, or less than 1000 total pounds for the pomees. In order to produce 1000 pomees is produced and that 5 per cent of this pomees
I will tell you how much I

took to press the sugar in the jar it contains, as
it has just been begun
but I want to emphasize this idea that
I have two tons of sugar, if recovered
would in the "unused gallons" of wine
which would go along way toward
paying the expense of managing the
orchard. One of the largest manufacture
turms of vinegar in the state told me
recently that he expected pure older
vinegar to go to 60 cents wholesale
in the next two years.
*In regard to the large amount of sugar that good out in the pomeace as made, I have never yet been a manufacturer or a farmer who handled the pomeace so as to recover nearly all the sugar left in it. Thousands of tons of pomeace are thrown out without the highest attempt being made to recover the sugar. Some people put it back on the soil, but it ought not to be put on the soil at all until well roiled.
*It has been well established that it can be successfully used for cattle food in France and England it is fed very successfully Vermont and Massachusetts experiment stations have also experimented with it and for several years have been feeding it successfully to milk cows.*
SPLENDID MILK COOLER.
Only Homemade Construction Needed.
Pays, Earn Self, In a Season.
Here is shown a milk cooler that is very easily constructed by any one and will repay its cost many times over in a season's use. A box form is constructed of the size you wish the outside of the cooler to be. The inside is made in the same manner only about eight inches smaller so as to allow for a four inch wall to the tank or cooler on all sides. The concrete is mixed, one part portland cement to five parts of sand and gravel, and the bottom of cooler hold in this may be three and one half to four in his thick, as you
A COOLER FOR EVERY PADRIN
desire. The box for the inside is then set up at this point bottom at an equal distance from the outside form on all four sides and the cone for the walls placed and tamped down. At one end the wall is slightly lower in content to provide for an over flow, as shown. The tank should be high enough so that when filled with water it will be within two or three inches of the top of milk can, and, as the water is constantly changing, the milk can be cooled very rapidly. The cooler moves the milk slightly larger to allow it to be poured around the car when it is desired to hasten the cooling process.
SILOS ENLARGE FARM.
On no of corn stored in a site is the provident of several acres of pasture. It never dies up and is always reed to feed. More silos and smaller ones, allowing a port to stand until summer will be the future policy of men who want to entitle their farms without adding to their storage. The silo will help to make more big little farms. It is a part of the policy of putting one farm on top of another that is usually called advanced farming or intensive agriculture—National Stockman and Farmer.
Paul of Sand Good Friend:
Always keep hands a painful of clean sand. Nothing is more useful about the house. It cleans rust; just plunge a rusty knife or tool into the sand several times and see for your self. Then, if a pin of steel on the stove starts to blaze, don't douse the stove with water and run out of the kitchen a terming for lien, or Joe, or乳k. Use sand.
It smothers the blaze quickly, dissipates the smoke, and instead of missing up the stove, as would water, it really cleans it.
Don't throw away a punctured water jug as being useless. Try filling it with sand heated in a pie plate or shallow pan. The sand will retain heat a long time, and for every practical purpose will be found as good as hot water.
EVERY ONE TO HIS LIKING.
A farmer and a town man exchanged places for a week. "It was terrible," said the farmer afterward. "I couldn't sleep a wink on account of the street cars, motorcycles and automobiles." "I'll never try that again," said the town man. "The roosters and the cows and the squealing pigs kept me awake every night."

Poultry Pickings.
A bent wilde beak, with the end fastened into an old brown handle, is a handsy and beastly in a fowl running at large. With a little paw the one can easily sit in fowl with this hook. Bracket up the breeding paws, if you have not already done so to moving the male birds from the rook until after molting person. At this period of the year the stock will do better unmatched.
Stronger chicks can be grown by starting with commercial chick food placed before them so they can help themselves at will. This food is composed of a variety of grains and seeds, principally bulldogs wheat and corn cracked pine, Kallir corn, millet, etc. The chicks should be allowed a good sized run and must be always supplied with green food, charcoal, grit and oyster shell.
The demand for dressed fowls is rapidly increasing, and poultry raisers are finding it profitable to prepare their fowls for the market. Help in the home has become quite a problem during recent years, and most city people prefer buying fowls already dressed. It is to the interest of the farmer to get the best prices for his fowls, and if the trade is willing to pay for it he is willing to deliver his birds dressed.

weak, depending on us for their development into a larger and nobler stature. Among our prized inheritances are state fairs. Of these some are well advanced toward a maturity that records with the spirit and temper of these wondrous times; others have been underfed, until they are dwarfed in parts and overgrown in others.
Criticism is of value even when it amounts to monotonous flow picking, but it is far more acceptable when accompanied by a constructive program containing practical ideas and workable suggestions. All man made institutions are more or less imperfect. Granted that our state fairs are not what thoughtful men would have them to be, what are their proposals for improvement? How may their sope be enlarged and their influence vitalized? What is the most important business of a state fair? What is or should be the demand of the farmer upon it? Are not many of the recent economic developments in agriculture ignored or at the best only marginally recognized by the fair? Are there not many patent titles for distinctive educational services to which little or no attention is given? Is it not time to brush away the trash and chaff which weaken or cover up the useful, nutritious grain that lies in the primary object of a state fair and to concentrate its energies in a steady, persistent effort to make it irresistibly and comprehensively instructive to farmers and traders? Henceforth why should not an agricultural state fair be strictly agricultural, true to name and technical object, dignified in its conduct, devoid of spectacular honeycombs and the rubbish of contaminating cosmeticaires, standing solidly upon the rush of our land industry, its hammer striking the one red hot iron of educational purpose?
Keep gutted plants well watered. Many persons will pour a little water on a plant, enough to soak an inch or two, and wonder that the plants do not grow. The trouble is that the growing part of the plant receives no nourishment. Plants should be watered every day, and in such a way that the roots get plenty of moisture. The soil should be rich.

A few cents a month covers the difference between ordinary butter and "Meadow Gold."
Butter is one of those "big little things"—a poor quality can leave a feeling of dissatisfaction with an entire meal, while good butter lends an additional charm.
The delicious flavor of "Meadow Gold" Butter is particularly enticing. Its rare richness appeals to the most fastidious palate.
Sold by all dealers who are butter particular.

Ice cold punch was served by the Mirren Caroline Mayfield and Fthel Anderson, who presided at the bowl. pass home to arrest the two sons Malpass's injuries were at first believed to be fatal but when he was brought here and placed in jail his wounds were found to be not dangerous.
The wif of Charles Malpass, a negro woman, and Malpass's younger son, a young mulatto, escaped from the house. The authorities say they do not think the negro and the boy engaged in the fight yesterday and for this reason the two will not be sought.
The authorities say there was intense feeling against the Malpass family because Malpass had married a negro.

VALUE OF SYSTEM.
Whether In Working or Thinking It Helps on to Success.
Working or thinking without system enfeebles the mind and leaves the mental faculties in a clogged condition, so that they do not work sharply. The mind must be kept clear and clean for the present problem, so that it may size and grasp with all its might the thing it is attempting to accomplish. There is only one best way to learn how to act. That way is the way of system. Systemize your thoughts, your exercises your abilities. Learn early in life to do this, and it will prove the master had it that was success.
Systems men are always surprised that the books of great enterprises can find so much time for so little life for laborers, for travel. They cannot understand it at all. They do not realize that a mult of great organizations, with a splendid system, can do more executive business in a single hour at his office than a system that can accomplish in two. It is the job of men, but the of

ORIGIN OF "MARK TWAIN."
Samuel L. Clemens Quoted as Saying He Inherited the Name.
The familiar story of the origin of Samuel L. Clemens' use of the name Mark Twain is now declared to be incorrect. It pictures Clemens, Mississippi river pilot, listening to the men heaving the load at the bow of a river boat and singing out "by the mark, three; by the mark, Twain." Tablouel Clemens states his how and so-calledizes, "Here is my nom de plume."
It is true that the name originated with the picturesque city of the man with the load, but a man other than Mr. Clemens at told over the picturesque city, that man was captain Isiah Sellers, who published river news for the New Orleans journal To Professor William Ivon helps of Vale Mr. Clemens conferred that it was from North Carolina the name Professor Philip's story is quoted in Professor Hinderer's Mark Twain. According to the Mr. Clemens add to Professor Philip's captain Sellers used to sign his letters in the Plainsune News Journal. It is not I think I have done it I seem to have done it what I

SOME TELLING PRUCUS
In a recent cable from London to the American dailies appeared the following:
Madame Alexandre Corsini, of Moscow, a member of the Russian nobility, criticized American women.
American women do not realize what they ask, she says. The husbands are working themselves to death and giving everything to their wives, and the more they get the more they think they ought to have.
The men are to take for the social unrest in America. They humor their wives too much. They go shopping with them and carry their bundles, and some of them, I have found, will get up in the morning and cook their own meals.
If it is very hard for a young man to get a start in America. How can he marry and support a family when his wife wants to wear silk stockings?
like the Queen of Sheba, and if you follow them to their homes you will probably find they live in what might be called hovels."
The above truly applies to all Amieican women, but we know of none that need heed its time ly warning more than the Afro-American woman. Is it any wonder that we have so many marriagable girls and old maids among us. Let the present crop of youngsters paste this in their hats and govern themselves accordingly.
