‘as closo as we would hike to be to
that place, This is a cotton country
‘and there is quite a settlement of col-

people, trying to do what they can to
Mnake progress for themselves and the
community In which they lives yet
they are subjected to a lot of preju-
dice, but if they use proper meth-
ods they can overcome all this as col-
ored people are a class who work
hard and love to spend their money
and the white merchonts in this com-
munity know it. We would like to
see the colored people establish
ators ie this town as we think they
wou! well.
We met Mr. Wm. Engheh, the

Gone but not forgotten, and be
cause of his character and disposition
his chruch, the community in which
he lived, as well as his beloved fam-
ily will always remember him In the
mort peasant manner. Fro, Wiley
Sexton wae on old resident of the
city and dualng the forty-seven years
of his stay in Fort Scott he made not
only many friends, but they were
legion An? why not hate a legion
of friends, for, by living the life of
a Christian (for Tio, Sexton took
Chiist for his pattern), there was
nothing else in «tore for him. He
was peace quict and patient; he
was humble ard kind: he wis a
neighbor well worthy of all the prafee
that could he given him—in fact, he
was his brother's keeper.
Tio, Sexton was a faithful, dutiful
and upright member of the A. M. E.
church for more than 80 years. He
belonged to clase No. 4 of Wayman
chapel and his clas leader ean only
say of him that he lived as only a
Christian could live, Even the chil-
dien loved to hoit him testify in
class. Tis Chrictian life was pure,
his moral life was one of the best,
his fe as a citizen was lawabiding.
As a husband he was genuine. as a
father the most kind, loving and af.
fectionate.
Wiley Paut Quinn Sexton was hom
in Bolleville, Il., January 12. 1841.
He was married to Miss Frances
Scott in April, 1868. To this union
was born four children, two sons and
twa daughters. Te leaves to mourn
his demise a loving wife, who did all
within her power to ‘restore his
health, with the assistance of the two
dhughters, who spared nothing tc
bring back his health; a loving son,
a mother-in-law, and a host of rela.
