Another soul's ever made happy Mr. George Jackson is wearing a pair of tortoise shell glasses—now see to be a disease now.
Mr. Fugene Jackson, Mr. Geo. Jackson, missed Olathe last Saturday. We wonder what was the matter? Shortage I suppose.
Mr. Coil Moody, driving an Oakland Nix, with his friends, Geo. and Fugene Jackson, went to Olathe Saturday, some sports.
They tell me that Prof. John F. Lowry is making several sets for his school boys; so ask the professor and get loved up.
Little Jack Gate was very badly burned last week, but al getting along well at last report.

As the reporter heard in passing, Mr. John H. Lewry is more than a professor in the schools of Paula With the all of a couple of his pupils, he marketed 54 dozen eggs a few weeks ago. It is to bad we have no more like him. Meshmies Susie Landsey and Cuba Wantress, of Emporia, Kansas, are visiting relatives here this week.
When in the need of a plumber see Ala Cooper, our race plumber.
They tell me that we have a man on Paola who can run eight blocks in six seconds. While Mr. Bush was sitting in A. G. Famon's restaurant, someone dropped a 15 caliber gun which exploded, the bullet glancing Mr. Jake Green head, but they say Mr. Bush was home before the police diel away — some running.
Mr. Luke soon is getting along nicely at this writing.

WOMEN'S CORNER
THE HOME THE FOUNDATION OF SOCIETY
There are three great institutions of society—the family, the state and the church. Of those the family is the first in order and importance. It is the oldest institution on the earth. The history of society began with Adam and Eve, and their children
In biological terms, the family is the structural cell in the living organism of society. It is the event of civilization, the first expression of socialized will, the world's first experience of altruism, the first step in God's education of the human race. To it look the church and state for recruits to fight their battles and to do their work. Society demands more of it than the raw material to be built into its structure. It needs something more than talent and abilities, however highly trained. It must have the homely virtues of the household. The ordinary workaday virtues which mark the woman a good housewife and house-mother, which makes the man hard worker, a good husband and father. Society can attain its ends only as it is constantly replenished with a stream of youth, in whom character the seeds of reserence, faith, honor, love, planted the nation's home, have a already germinated or marred some growth. The water will no rise higher than its source. How can you produce or sustain a noble and virtuous society from careless or inoble homeest
There will be no holy and loving church, there will be no righteous and aspiring state, without Christian homes of lofty ideals and noble and pious conduct. Plain loving and high thinking is the pretext for high softy, and this must begin in the people's homes. Like home, like church and state, always to a very large degree. We are praying and working for a state and church where we pray and work for the home. This is the trustworthy testimony of experience. Who in not heard again and again from philanthropic and educational and religious workers, the respaing question "What we do."
Pamper but the home from which these children came. The nation has confidence in its ability to prove they know his high sense of duty and standard of life. The home life is one of the sources the country confidant now the fulfillment of the holiest of family duties the sweet wholesomeness of an existence which can stand the plague of pests, is the fierce light that lights on the nation's leader. On the other hand the greatest pains to such are to be found in the menaces to the homes. If you strike at the life of society, aim at the family—there is the heart. Destroy the foundation and the whole superstructure, no matter how elaborate and strongly but tressed, will fall. Draw up the spring and the stream will fail. But on the contrary again, only let the foundation stand leave us pious homes, and through financial disaster or other blight devastate our land, we can begin again and also thomphant from our ruins, only the nobler for a trial.
The Dorcas Art Club met March 8th at the home of Mrs. Samuel Tolkins, on West 10th street. Interesting readings were given by Mrs. W. H. Young and Mrs. Eleanor Bolton. After the regular routine of business, the club adjourned to meet with Mrs. Bessie Johnson. Mrs. W. H. Young, president Mrs. Mattle Scott, Reporter.

Drug Firm Page Widow $7,500 for Missing "A" for "I" Filling Prescription
Horcester, Mass., March 23, 1911, minute in two letters in telling a prescription with the difference between life and death, and it caused the Code Drug amount $7,500 to make the error
The verdict was awarded by a jury. Five thousand dollars was for the death and 42,000 was for the casual suffocation the prisoner explained. The widow of Paul Valentelli won the verdict. The fateful letters were "a" and "i" the prescription called for barium sulphate and barium sulphite was given. The first aids in x-raying when internally, but the victim took the second and died in half hour in intense agony.

DISH FOR LUNCH OR SUPPER
Recipe Given for Making Baked Vegetable Omelet or Souffle—Bacon Gives Flavor.
Drain cooked vegetables—peas, beans, cornmeal, carrots, spinach, or any preferred vegetables—to make one cupful of thick vegetable pulp when mashed or put through a sieve. Make a thick sauce by blending quarter cupful of butter fat with quarter cupful of flour and adding one cupful of liquid, which may be whole or skim milk, cream, meat stock, or the water in which the vegetables have been cooked. Heat three egg yolks, and combine with the sauce and vegetable pulp. Add seasoning of salt, pepper, onion juice, and one of the following: Finely chopped parsley, chives, lime, one eighth teaspoonful curry powder, Hacon used in making the sauce gives a good flavor. Heat the three whites until very stiff, fold into the souffle mixture and bake in a buttered baking dish in a slow oven until firm. Other vegetables may be served around the souffle.
ALL AROUND THE HOUSE
Coarse sugar is one of the causes of heavy or hard cakes.
Pudding clothes will wash more easily if borax is added to the hot water.
Before tinting colored goods strain the dye and the material will color evenly.
Cerules, turnips, and parsnips may be kept fresh by covering them with soap or earth and keeping them in a dark place.
Before putting knives away, rub the blades with motton fat or vaseline and roll them in brown paper; this will keep them from rusting.
When brushing a mud and stupefied brush from top to bottom, not against the warp of the material. This is most important if the clothes are to look as fresh as they did originally.

THE BEACON LIGHT
"What Saw Million Afro-American Churchmen Are Thinking About?" is the title of an intense monograph by Rev. J. N. Blaine, pastor of Jane Chapel C. M. E. Church, Topeka. It is the toppoint of an address delivered by the author before the City Ministerial Association of Topeka. Not least among its interesting features is the fact that the message went home to whom it was intended to reach. An object of bringing it out in booklet form is to let our people know who he told the white ministers. Another it entitled "An Open Door For the Negro," is contained in the booklet. Its most interesting reading. The price is 25 cents. It may be obtained that on the Paundenet
We have always known that we were of a superior race and achieved that art of our people knew it. Now we come Mr. Robt Delanty says that our good people in Topkai are on the most part inflicted with the evil that they are infliction. "Interior Complex," he called it. In the way he put it, however, that condition only applies to the old settlers and the native Topkans and not to us newcomers who came here unbased and unburped by the things as they are easy, amuses in comparison to what they used to be. For us we can only see a bright future for Topkai, and the settlers and the native born are going to help us. One of these days one of us newcomers are going to break out into the limelight with a really constructive program, and the old settlers and the native born are going to be so angry with the idea of us newcomers trying to put it over them and lead them, they will wake up and put over so much bigger program, that Chicago and New York will be made look small in comparison.
Speaking about that "interior complex" thing, there is an association here that calls itself 100 per cent racial which has some influential members who not only evidently think in terms of inferiority, but not that way. Recently they had some printing to do

and absolutely ignored the three colored establishments and went to the other follow. We thought that the act had much ignored but so many people spoke of the incongruity of the thing and called our attention to it, not because it did us harm but because it has a very bad effect on the morale of the younger generation who are looking to their elbows to pave the way for them. Therefore, talk never advanced anything it takes a then.
It would be a good idea for Mr. Gregg to come back to Kansas. His services are so much in demand in this neck of the woods. He likes us people out here and we like him. What condition could be more ideal? And too, he speaks the language. We rise to inform those Missourians in Kansas City, if they don't and can't appreciate his worth, Mr. Gregg will find a hearty welcome and a whole cooperation right out here in Kansas.
The Negro in the commercial field faces a peculiar situation. There are more positions open than there are boys and girls to fill them. Anyone advertising for office help gets evaluates of applications but somehow our people disassociate work with commercial positions when in reality we do not require the hardest kind of work. In our own little play we are good trying for months to get hold of a young man with the right kind of strief in him. So far we have not found one who could measure up. All those who applied have not been impressed with the blew that in order for a concern for which they are working to exist, they must contribute their share. It is their idea that they should have to do is sit behind a big desk, and look wise, visit over the telephone and draw their pay. With that condation existing our boys and girls wouldn't do so very well if the avenues which we complain of being closed were opened to them.

team But, Omar, 24th, at Parsons. The game ended with a score of 15 to 13. Parsons. The game was quite unevenly matched but it was a good stiff game and Cherryvale is due much credit as the team has been organized since the first of the year. We know that Parsons has a good team and this is not their first year of basket ball and much credit, in due the Sunday School boys for holding them as well as they did and by getting an early start, and with the experience thus for gained they will make Parsons take notice.
Walter Ivain and Emmett Parker are being very highly commended for their work in helping round the New York Giants into shape for the coming season.
Pittsburgh beat Commonwealth Big Five and some of the leading journals of the East expressing their candid opinion remarked that "revelling in her pounds of flesh." etc. Pittsburgh wine both games. The first game ended 31-27, the second 13-33. We have had the pleasure of witnessing several basketball ball games during our stay thus far on this old terra firma; we have also played a few games in the last 10 years, having just closed a very successful season in one way if not another, and whenever a quintet doubles the score we must concede without a doubt that they have the records that a winning team must have—poor and accuracy. Posey's boys have "all parts of that."
Maybe it was his name, the date, on the jim that has been hoovering over Kidd's camp but anyhow black Irishmen are few and there was never an name like "Kidd" so how could this distinguished fighter win in Ireland on that memorable day when St Patrick drove all the snakes from Ireland. If he won has scheduled fight, he might have had the honor of battling the general public and to much publicity has already hurt Kidd.
