THE VOL. VIII Our Sunday School Work. Our mothers, fathers and guardians must take more interest in the Sunday school work of our city more. With the membership that there are in our three largest churches, we should be able to have good attendance in each one of their Sunday schools. During our visit past Sunday at the Taylor chapel and Quinn chapel, we note a few thoughts. The Taylor chapel with a membership of over 250 members should have a Sunday school of about the same every Sunday morning, but the attendance is far this; out of this large congregation the attendance last Sunday was only about 60 in all. The pastor superintendent, and teachers seems to be doing air they can for the success of their school, and they cannot be the blame of such small attendance. The fault is in the parents and the members of the church, they must get interested in this work and make their child or children attend the Sunday school every Sunday as he do the public during the week. During the afternoon we visited the Quinn chapel Sunday school, there the attendance were about 94 in all, ranging from about 7 to 60 years of age. This has a membership of about 150 members and should a Sunday school of about the same number on every Sunday. During the past two weeks this department at this church has been pushed by the pastor and encouraged by its leaders and members until it has increased wonderfully and have improved in many things, they have added a fine new piano, several ice banners and a new supply of book and connections to all of this, they are preparing to make every one that attend a sack of candy on the first Sunday in every month. The is that we need good Sunday schools in all of our churches, they not only help the churches, but they cultivates the child mind and helps to make respectable young men and women. So we urge upon the christian fathers and mothers to get interested in our Sunday school work, help the leaders to push it, send your children every Sunday, either in the morning or afternoon, and when our children see that their parents are interested in that work, they will also be anxious and Sunday school's of our city will be a great success. THE NASHVILLE NEGRO'S CAKES ALL DOUGH. During the past twenty years a certain conscientious class of moneyed white people have been in the habit of loaning money to Negroes on their propensity. These loans often went to save the home, either from an old mortgage or to save forfeitures on last payments on purchase money. Time went on and the Negro either paid his principal or interest when due. Now a radical change has taken place, a new set of colored lawyers have surruck the town, and the are making the Negroes believe that or a reasonable fee they can defeat to any kind of debt. But now the white people who have the money are becoming discussed, and the results will be that all e cumbered Negro property will son sink its level into the white man's hands. -Tenn- Pallidum. The has been given into this office for publication by Win Gray and others. "We, the Negro voters and a purl of the republican party, do protest against the citizens ticket. Give us a straight, repu lican ticket with such men as our mayor Babcock, Morris or Ilgenfrizz at the head of it and the victory is ours Mr Fred Bush is in receipt of a card announcing the marraige of Ulyses R. Smith a former Sedalia boy, to Miss Helene Lolli a, a charming young lady of Chetaps, Kan., at the brides residence Wednesday Jan 20th. The many friends of Ulyses's wishes him many congratulations. Laau Reynolds of our city a very popular gent, and Miss Nellie Washington, a popular young lady of Pars in Kansas were married last Sunday niht in Parsons The happy couple is making this city their home, and reside on East Morgan street. We welcome Mr and Mrs Reynold and extend to them many congratulations. The wedding bells still rings. C. H. Holmes and Miss Mande Reeves, stood the wedding bell at Quinn chapel and headd the words flow from mount S nia that apparently cau e the earth to tremble, and all old things passed away and new things took place, the last thing that they heard Rev Williams say was "I pronounce you man and wife." they then departed to their home on a quiet bridle-trip after the benediction as Mr and Mrs Holmes. We wish them a happy life. The Quinn chapel, A.M.E Sunday held their election of officers as follows. Mrs D. The party left their pastor and wife a handsome supply of eatables of which they are thankful, The party was led by Mrs Rev Densmore... Local Politics. The question now is, whether are not--a citizens ticket The friends of K H Gray are began to get a little afraid since they have found out some things Police officers seems to be the only fit men for constable, there are three already in the field, namely, Mason; Bult and Lethwich, Since M T Slane and El Ford has been spoken of as possible candidates for county collector, we notice that the McClure element has begun to think of the past We can hear the echoes from nearly every corner, saying to Judge Harris, "Go Way Back and sit Down" Some of the friends of James Ringens would like to see him judge of Eastern District again. The race among the democrats for presecuing attorney is getting warm as there already announced. A number of Lawyer Bowrons friends has been urging him to enter into the race for Prosecuting Attorney, but he hasn't yet decided as to what he would do in this matter. Carb-stone politician has began their work, one says that he has become so powerful that he no longer has every candidates are running after him now, enstead of him running after them as heretofore. The socialist has already put their ticket in the field, it is as follows: For Mayor—E T Behrens For Chief of Police—O Linsey For Collector—John O Fisher For Police Judge—Rufus Money For Assessor—W S Embry For Treasurer—Chas Hartenbaeh 1st Ward Alderman—Leuking 2nd Ward Alderman—J T Parish 3rd Ward Alderman—J Cone 4th W.rd Alderman—J W Neely Since a citizen ticket is becoming so much talked off, we wouldn't be surprised if the next thing would be county ticket. Let all people turn out tothe primaris send good men to the convention and they will uominate good men. No man having at heart the welfare of Sedalia can affurd to Ge:line a nomination for any city cflice. Again, a large portion of the pecple know nothing abont the city business, excepting what they fiere and !ewrn during the political campaign. Let both parties fully discuss the cities business abd defind their policies, for mnch good can come toall in so doing. The greatnest cf cur country is largely iudebted%o the fact of there be- ing at least two grest political parties, both advancieg theories and the auccesstul party adop ing the best of such theories, aud en foreing them f rthe common good of all: Ltnshavea pleasant but a persistant Ci'y campaign, it will wake us a'l up, give uz new ener- gy and stimulate fer che battle ahead, A Canning factory or two may be a good thing to start with, ap the question has arrived “what can be didte encourage cur farm- ers to raise more ve-tables ior the market.” Why 2on’t the peo ple of the e:ty ani couniy get to- gether and all the farmers and the business men take stock and then build snd ¢quipt and large can- ning fac. ory—by so do'ug ‘he farme.s would have a good home market for bis product, »nd tho factory would thed be a great benifit to Sedalia. Ifnot a can- ning factory, then there sre oth er factories that would ccnsume the produce that the faimer can best raise. Con ult the farmers, make them interested in the wel- fare of the city and all push to- gether for the good of Secalia ard her many far: ers. ; The nearer the campaiga comes the more can be heard talked off it, but during all of this time we never hear any one saying what they are go'ng to do for the Ne- gro support. We no‘ice the pap- eis and business mer are urging a citizens ticket, demoerats, repub lieans and so-iaiist are all up in arms looking offices apon the yetes of all the people regerdiess o his color or wealth, none o them any part ef the pie to help them carry their points.
