There is some talk of establishing a gymnasium and reading room by the colored society people of the city, where nothing but the most respectable will be admitted. It is a well known fact that the clab rooms as they are now conducted are not the proper places for our young people to congregate, as the main object of the proprietors is to sell the liquor they have there. We have good schools, where our young folks are educated, and for which we all pay taxes. We do not wish to say that that this movement will will prohibit anyone of their liberty of buying liquor if it is needed for medicinal purposes. These joints must be suppressed, or the best element will protest. Abolish all these public clubs where liquors are sold and where cur young girls will be protected and allowed to pass ur molested.

In this issue will be found the announcement cement of officer Charles W. Leftwich. who is a democratic candidate for constable of Sedalia-Township, Mr Lethwich has served our city during the two years as a faithful police officer, discharging duty at any and all times regardless of color or wealth. And in so doing he has gained the influence of the people among all classes. He is well known among the colored voters, and has a number of warm friends among them. Should his party give to him this nomination, they certainly have strong candidate. who can and will hold his own among all parties and factions. If elected will make a good constable.
James C Conners a candidate For Constable of Sedalia-Township

Mr Conners has been almost raised among the colored people, and has a host of warm friends among them. During the past few years he has been connected with the Stevens Livery stable, and has had considerable dealings with poor people and has in every case proven to be a friend in the time of need. Short Talks On Advertising ByCharles Austin Bates.
There are two ways of looking at advertising, both of them right. Advertising should be done during the dull time for the purpose of stirring up trade at that time and
A man should just as quickly think of stopping his advertisements in the Summer or in

About five years ago my right ear began to sing, and this kept on getting worse, until I lost my hearing in this car entirely
I underwent a treatment for catarrh, for three months, without any success, consulted a number of physicians, among others, the most eminent ear specialist of this city, who told me that only an operation could help me, and even that only temporarily, that the head noises would therefore be less severe. I then saw your advertisement accidentally in a New York paper, and ordered your treatment. After I had used it only a few days according to your directions, the noises ceased, and to-day, after five weeks, my hearing in the diseased ear has been entirely restored. I thank you heartily and beg to remain.

Advertising cannot be expected to sell goods when people do not want them, and it will naturally be most effective when it gives publicity to some desirable article at just the right time.
To be sure, advertising will sell anything at any time, if the price be made low enough and the advertisement sufficiently attractive.
Some lines of goods can be forced, and some cannot, but even those which cannot be forced should not be allowed to drop out of sight.

LAXAKOLA FOR WOMEN.
Wines Rival the World in Excellence. Cid, stee and mellow by age and years of care and frequent racking and cellars as is done with the Chateau Wines in France.
THE MUSEUM
The Chateau contains a limited supply of Private Stock Port nineteen years old, besides Burgundy and Claret nearly the same age. The Speer Port, however, nine years old, as well the Burgundy, Claret and Sherry, are high class wines. The ★★★ Climax Brandy is 18 years old. All are preferred where known by the Medical profession as superior to any that can be bead, for
their excellent effect upon the system when used by invalids, the weakly aged persons and in general family use. Northern New Jersey climate and soil abounding in iron is just adapted for this grape for Port wine. It is the same kind of soil as in Portugal. Speer's winery and the vines are the only Port grape vineyards in the United States; only vineyards that cultivate the real Port wine grape of Portugal; while other wines or mixtures called port are made without a single Oporto grape in them. Mr. Speer is the first and only one who imported the vines and acclimated the real Port wine grape vines of Portugal. He spent thousands of dollars as a hobby to see what he could do toward acclimating these Portugal vines here. It took eight years for them to become acclimated before Mr. Speer got a single grape; during these years all died except about eight hundred vines, when those began to grow vigorous and bear fruit; from these, layers were made for new vines. The vineyards now cover fifty six acres. It has proven a success. The grapes are allowed to hang on the vines until they begin to raisin, when they have parted with some of the water and are rich in sugar; and the wine made from. Port wine grapes is the only real genuine Port wine made in America. It is by far THE wine the weakest persons, the aged and for evening entertainments.

MOTHERS
Laxakola for Babies.—It is the best and most effective remedy for children. BEST because it is pure and safe being made entirely of harmless ingredients. BEST because it is non-irritating and never grips or causes pain or irritation. BEST because it is sure and never fails. BEST because "Children like it and ask for it." BEST because its tonic properties are so good and so strengthening that it keeps the little ones in their hearty condition.
It is a dangerous thing to give little babies violent cathartics that rack and rend their little bodies. DON'T DO IT—give them LAXAKOLA. For constipation, coated tongue, simple colds, restlessness, loss of sleep and fevers it is invaluable.
A few drops can be given with safety to very young babies, and it will often relieve colic by expelling the wind and gas that cause it. It will aid digestion, relieve restlessness, assist nature and induce sleep. Great relief is experienced when administered to young children suffering from diarrhea, accompanied with white or green evacuations, as LAXAKOLA neutralizes the acidity of the bowels and carries out the cause of the fermentation.
My baby is 4 months old and is toothing. He was sick and I tried a good, many things, but nothing seemed to relieve him. I had a doctor, who said it was inflammation of the bowels, and that I would never pull him through. He had worse than his case. When I saw he was getting worse, I stopped giving him his medicine, as he could keep his nose from the puffy pants, and I joined to screen when he had a touch of it. I knew what it was to close my eye day of night. I gave him a new drops of LAXAKOLA and it relieved him. I got to him a few times, and it worked my eye day of night. I gave him a new drops of LAXAKOLA and it relieved him. I got to him a few times, and he no longer rests pretty fair all night. I was a great deal better than before. He would give nothing else to their sick babies."
MRS. MARY DALEY, 397 First Street, South Boston.
Laxakola for Young Girls on the threshold of womanhood, has been found in valuable.
When they become pale and languid, face bloodless, eyes dull, head aching, feet and hands cold, appetite gone or abnormal, and their systems generally run down, they need building up, and their blood needs cleansing.
Give them LAXAKOLA; its gentle bowel action to cleanse, and its tonic properties to build up the system, will show immediate and most beneficial results.
It acts promptly, surely but gently on the bowels, and while stimulating the liver to increased activity, its tonic properties strengthen the nerves, renew vitality and restore color to the face and life and animation to the whole system. It is the only tonic laxative that strengthens and tones them up.
Laxakola for Mothers.—It is particularly valuable and useful to women, especially mothers, as it is a gentle and safe remedy to use during all conditions of health whenever their peculiar and delicate constitutions require a mild and efficient laxative and tonic; while to nursing mothers, worn out with the care of infants and whose systems therefore are particularly susceptible to disease, LAXAKOLA directly appeals.
It clears the complexion, brightens the eye, sharpens the appetite, removes muddy and blotched condition of the skin and cures sick headache to a certainty by removing the cause.
To women suffering from chronic constipation, headaches, biliousness, dizziness, sallowness of the skin and dyspepsia, LAXAKOLA will invariably bring relief and a positive and permanent cure.
What Mrs. Eoy, Pugh, K. Palpatine, O., Lovel, 127, says about LAXAKOLA: "March 11, 1991. Received your first sample. It has so much cool, send me a doe, bottle." March 28: "Bottle came safe, did me a lot of good, drugged here don't keep it, so enclosed is safe, please use me quickly another bottle. The last bottle did me so much good I want another at once." April 5th: "Encased is safe for one more bottle LAXAKOLA. It has done me much good."
Laxakola for Old Folks.—In the Autumn and Winter of Life, when the various organs through long years of action have become more or less sluggish, it becomes necessary to stimulate them by some remedy best a lapted to that purpose. So long as the stomach and bowels are doing their work properly and the liver and kidneys are active and strong, your food is assimilated properly, your blood is kept pure and rich, and your nerves are strong. The feeling of nervousness, general weakness and debility means that the whole system is run down and needs a general toning up.
That LAXAKOLA DOES IT, has been proved beyond all question. Isn't it Worth 25c. To Be Cured of Constipation
People who suffer from habitual constipation with all its attendant tills, clogged stomach and bowels, sluggish liver, heartburn, indigestion, and thin and impure blood, are too apt to believe that the only remedy is violent purgatives. Such cathartics are irritating and gripping, over the stomach inflamed and enfeebled, the constipated condition recurs with greater difficulty of cure and the sufferer constantly growing weaker. The liver is weakened and the appetite stimulates the liver, strengthens the nerves, and purifies the blood, while its marvellous logic properties lay in the entero-enteric tract.
Its remarkable tonic properties reach every organ—the liver, kidneys and stomach, nerve, heart and brain—and removes the cause of
inflammation. It also causes the body to act as a general tonic, thus is a safe
only way to secure an absolute and permanent cure. In order that all may test this great curative power, I
