THE SEDALIA TIMES
COLORED VOTERS.
These are some of the men who seeks your vote on April 1.
Men Whoes Sole Aim, is the best Interest of the City. And Whoe s Motto is "Give Us A Progressive and Enterprising City. Some plain facts concerning the Citizen's Candidates.
VOL. VIII
VOTE FOR J. L. BABCOCK FOR RE-ELECTION.
It is a decided fact that Mayor Babcock's re-election is assured, and the question now is what his majority will be over the rest of the candidates. Every colored voter in knows his past record as Mayor, and what he has done in the way of cutting down the city's expenses and reducing the public debt. He has been kind and courteous to all, waking no distinction as to color or wealth. No colored voter can truthfully say that he has not done his duty toward the colored people during his term as Mayor. No business man can say he ever done anything detrimental to the building up and interests of the city.
All things put together he has been a credit to Sedalia, and such government as this we can expect nothing but a prosperous city. So now we urge upon the colored voters of the city to turn out next Tuesday and help make Mayor Babcock's majority a large one.
VOTE FOR H. W. MUESCHKE FOR 1ST WARD ALDERMAN.
This is the most important office for the colored people, as the majority of them live in that ward, and it is to their interest that their representative be one who stands high and commands the respect and attention of the city at large, a man who can and understands how to build up the weak places of the ward, and at the same time represent the ward in such a manner that it be a great benefit to the people thereor and the city in general. Mr. Mueschke, who is our candidate for its office, is an acknowledged leader in the business circles of our city and a gentleman in every respect. He has been a resident of this ward ever since coming to Sedalia, and knows just what is needed to benefit the entire ward, and the best thing is he understands how to go about it to get what is needed in this part of the city. Not only will he make a excellent alderman for his ward, but will make a valuable representative for our city and a worthy spoke in the wheel of progress of our city. He has in every instance both in business, and politics shown that he was a friend of the colored people and has never failed to recognize them in any political effort or public affairs. Mr. Mueschke is a man of sincerity and what he says he will do he will come very near doing it. He is not making the race on promises or from money influence, but from the fact that the citizens of our city demand him and our council needs just such men as he is. So we urge every voter of this proud ward, let him be black or white, go to polls Tuesday and put Mr. Mueschke in the city council, and when we have done this we will have gone our duty. We will then have a representative who will not be bought by any person or persons who will prove to be a traitor to his city or the people who put him there, our will do what he can for the ward and the city regardless of color or wealth. Vote for him and make his majority the largest ever known in the ward.
SEDALIA, MISSOURI SATURDAY MARCH 29 1902.
VOTE FOR ED STATON FOR 2ND WARD ALDERMAN.
To the voters of the Second ward we urge upon them to make it a special duty got to the polls early and see to it that Mr. Staton is returned to our council. During the time he has served has proven to be a worthy representative, one who in every instance stood firm for the city's interests, and at the same time has so conducted his office as to command only the best respect from all. He is a friend of the colored voter and always has been and we believe that he will do his part for the colored voters of this ward if re-elected. Vote for him and see to it that your friend's do likewise and roll him up a good majority on next Tuesday night.
P. G. STAFFORD FOR BLDERAN OF 4TH WARD.
the voters of this ward, regardless of their color or wealth could not vote for a betterman for their alderman than P G Stafford. He is worthy, honest and able to perform the duties with credit to the city and his ward. His past record demands that he be returned to our council by an overwhelming majority.
VOTE FOR JNO, W. WADDELL FOR CITY COLLECTOR.
We present the name of Mr. Jao Waddell, who is the Citizens nominee for City Collector, and who is one of Sedalia's oldest citizens, and a straightforward man. He has for years been connected with the EG Cassidy wholesale house and has thus become an interested factor in the business circles of our city. He is thoroughly capable and qualified in every respect to give great satisfaction to the city and taxpayers as City Collector assuring every one that the office will be properly cared for in every respect. The colored voter need not ear him as he is a gentleman worthy of the support of every voter in the city. Vote for him on next Tuesday and you will make no mistake.
VOTE FOR ERANK MONROE FOR CITY ASSESSOR.
Frank Monroe, who is the nominee on the Citizens' ticket is a young man who was reared in our city and for years has been connected with the Old Reliable Blair Bros Clothing Co, and while with them made a creditable salesman and a number of friends in all classes and colors. We ask you to vote for him because we know him to be a straightforward and honest young man and is well qualified to attend to every duty connected with the office. Give him your support and he will assure you that he give the people of our city excellent service as City Assessor. Vote for him next Tuesday for he is alright in every respect.
ED LOVE FOR MARSHAL
There is not much use in attempting to make a long argument for Mr Love, as he is too well known from the world he has done his duty as a fearless officer, and at no time has he shirked his duty.
He!s the people's choice in general and the noor man's friend in every respect. Cast your vote for him and let him know how the people appreciate his past work as Chier. Make it unanimous from every ward,
VOTE FOR J. W. TRUXEL FOR POLICE JUDGE.
The people of our city are again called upon to vote for Judge Truxels re-election, and we feel as sured by saying that he has made the best judge who ever sat in the police court, and performed his duties so that his enemies are but few. He has dealt fair and impartial with all who have ever been in his court, giving to each man, black or white, his just deserts. He is the colored man's friend and has always proved so. If you appreciate his past work, and kindness then you should turn out and give him an overwhelming majority next Tuesday.

SEND ON REMONSTRAGCE.
Every prominent Negro in the United States should send remonstrance to Senators Platt, Burroughs and Spooner against the centration of Geo R Koester, recently abpolted Udited States Revenue collector for South Carolina. The Negroes of South Carolina charge Koester with being a Negro lyncher. He has admitted it to the President but calls his act "good citizenship," Mr. Koester's act consisted in volunteering to capture a Negro charged with an assault, capturing oim, sturning him over to be lynched, and only having humanity enough in him to prevent the man being burned alive. E H Davis, a prominent colored South Carolina, C B Purvis of Washington and the three Senators mentioned ask that the remonstrance be sent to them. Cry out against him.
PRINCE HENRY AND THE NEGRO
A few days ago when Booker T Washington was questioned about his consultation with Prince Henry he said: "As I understand it the prince asked Admiral Evans to have me presented to him mainly for the reason that he wanted to talk with me concerning the work of the Fuskeegee graduates who are introducing the raising of cotton in the German-African colony. The Prince also spoke of being deeply interested in the progress of the Negro in America, about which he asked in any questions."
The Easter exercises promise to be of much interest at the Taylor and Queen chapels, as the members and Sunday school workers have been busy for some time to make everything a success. The churches are handsomely decorated, and everything toward a welcome spring time and a glorious manifestation at Easter. Hundreds of Easter eggs will be given on to all Sunday school members, old and young and also to the members of the churches.

News has reached this city that W. H. Wallace, who was well known in all circles in this city, was lynched in Colorado early this week for an assault upon an aged white woman. His wife has the sympathy of her many friends Late reports from authorities and others of the town in which he was mobbed, say that all members of the mob will be prosecuted under the law in the April term of court. They believe punishment should have been in accordance with the law and not at the hands of a heartless gang of outlaws. Give the lynchers the punishment that is due them.
An Easter entertainment will be given at Taylor Chapel Monday night. The main feature will be one dollar hidden in an egg.

From Infancy To Age
A few drops can be given with safety to very young babies, and it will often relieve colic by expelling the wind and gas that cause it. It will aid digestion, relieve restlessness, assist nature and induce sleep. Great relief is experienced when administered to young children suffering from diarrhea, accompanied with white or green evacuations, as LAXAKOLA neutralizes the acidity of the bowel and carries out the cause of the fermentation.
"My baby is 4 months old and is teething. He was sick and I tried a good many things, but nothing seemed to relieve. I had a doctor, who said it was inflammation of the bowels, and that I would never pull him through perhaps if we were older than he. We I saw he was cute and we jerseyed him his head keepning on his stomach. He was troubled with colic very much, and used to screen when he had a tounge. I did not know what it was to close my eyes or night. I gave him a few drops of LAXAKOLA and it relieved him. I gave it for 10 minutes, and it was awakening a charm and an end to a pretty fair night. He is a great deal better looking baby since I gave him LAXAKOLA, and I think it would be good if they would bring him else to their babies."
Laxakola for Young Girls on the threshold of womanhood, has been found invaluable.
When they become pale and languid, face bloodless, eyes dull, head aching, feet and hands cold, appetite gone or abnormal, and their systems generally run down, they need building up, and their blood needs cleansing.
Give them LAXAKOLA; its gentle bowel action to cleanse, and its tonic properties to build up the system, will show immediate and most beneficial results.
It acts promptly, surely but gently on the bowels, and while stimulating the liver to increased activity, its tonic properties strengthen the nerves, renew vitality and restore color to the face and life and animation to the whole system. It is the only tonic laxative that strengthens and tones them up.
Laxakola for Mothers.—It is particularly valuable and useful to women, especially mothers, as it is a gentle and safe remedy to use during all conditions of health whenever their peculiar and delicate constitutions require a mild and efficient lexative and tonic; while to nursing mothers, worn out with the care of infants and whose systems therefore are particularly susceptible to disease, LAXAKOLA directly appeals.
It clears the complexion, brightens the eye, sharpens the appetite, removes muddy and blotched condition of the skin and cures sick headache to a certainty by removing the cause.
To women suffering from chronic constipation, head-aches, billiousness, dizziness, sallowness of the skin and dyspepsia, LAXAKOLA will invariably bring relief and a positive and permanent cure.
What Mrs. Else, Fuchs, K. Palestine, O., Box 125, says about LAXAKOLA. *March 11, 1901.* Received your free sample, it has done so much good, said me a few, better. *March 28* *Bottle cans sake, did me a lot of good, drugguest here now, so careful it is, please send me so quickly another bottle. The last bottle did me so good I want to give it to you. LAXAKOLA.*
Laxakola for Old Folks.—In the Autumn and Winter of Life, when the various organs through long years of action have become more or less sluggish, it becomes necessary to stimulate them by some remedy best adapted to that purpose. So long as the stomach and bowels are doing their work properly and the liver and kidneys are active and strong, your food is assimilated properly, your blood is kept pure and rich, and your nerves are strong. The feeling of nervousness, general weakness and debility means that the whole system is run down and needs a general toning up.
That LAXAKOLA DOES IT, has been proved beyond all question. Its gentle warming, soothing action on the bowels, liver and kidneys, stimulates them to increased activity, cleanses the blood, quickens the circulation, and puts the whole system in a condition of health and enables it to ward off disease, while its tonic properties tone up the system and keep it healthy.
Laxakola Does It.
LAXAKOLA FOR WOMEN. Pale, Weak, Run-down, Overworked Mothers with Fretty Children, half sick, nervous, tired out with household and maternal cares, headaches, constipated, liver torpid, with bleached, muddy, sallow complexions, blood thin and impure, need nutrition their systems. This is the time you need such a great nerve and stomach builder as LAXAKOLA, the great tonic laxative. It gently moves the bowels and thus removes the cause, acts directly to the liver and kidneys, keeping them active and strong, while its main function is to keep the liver, quicken the circulation, increase the flesh and brighten the eye; the nervousness specially disappears and the entire system recuperates and tones up to a condition of perfect and permanent health. LAXAKOLA is a gentle and safe remedy to use during all conditions of health of the gentler sex whenever their peculiar and delicate requirements require a mild and efficient laxative and tonic, and is invaluable in treating the conditions which otherwise would lead to more or less severe pain or illness.
WHAT IS LAXAKOLA?
It is a gentle mildness and barmish liquid laxative. It is a wonder-
ble through medicine. It is a general laxative and relieves the
bowels, stomach, liver or kidneys. It moves the bowels gently and painlessly,
and strengthens the juices the membranes of the stomach

Short Talks On Advertising ByCharles Austin Bates.
No. 23.
The down-town terminus of a Third avenue elevated road is exactly opposite the entrance to an East River bridge. As one comes down the stairway from the elevated, or comes out of the bridge entrance, he is met by a number of newsboys, each one crying his papers, and at the same time holding out his hand in the hope of receiving the paper with which you are through. These papers are either sold again or are returned to the newspaper offices as unsold copies.
A man reading a newspaper.
There is as much difference in the methods of these newsboys as there is in those of business men who advertise. Some of the boys push to the front and seem to catch the eye of almost everybody. There is another kind of boy, who stands a little in the background, but who still reaches out his hand. Out on the edge are some of the smaller, weaker and less energetic boys, and beyond them are some who take no interest in the proceedings at all, who receive few papers and sell few. The boy who asks oftenest and keeps most persistently in the foreground is the boy who sells the most papers.
The advertiser who keeps his business prominently before people and asks persistently and often for their trade is the one who will get the most business. The man who is nearly as energetic will get the business that

Advertising, reduced to its lowest terms, is merely asking people for their trade. That's all there is of it. A business man wants trade in some particular line. If it is a good line, and if he understands it and runs his business properly, it is only a question of asking enough people and asking them often. In the dull season, when only comparatively few people are buying anything, the advertising effort should be increased as the number of possible buyers decreases. It is easier to sell $10 worth of goods among a thousand people than it is to sell that much among one hundred people. If there are only one hundred to work on, work them hard.

you're business, use two papers and make the advertising maul—the space—as big as possible.
If you haven't money enough to buy two big mauls, only buy one, use only one paper—the best—and make the space big enough to be felt.
You'll do more good with one maul than with half a dozen tack-hammers. You'll get more benefit from a regular advertisement, of sufficient size, in the best paper in town, than you will from half a dozen smaller ads in a weaker paper.

If you have only one ad, have it right. You don't believe in cutting your store in two, do you? You don't establish a branch until you feel sure you are doing all you can in the main store.
Be sure you are doing enough in the best paper before you think of adding another.
