THE SEDALIA TIMES. RICHEST NEGRO- IN THE UNITED STATES. Col. John McKee of Phiadelphia Died Worth $1,500,000. The Philadelphia Press gives account of Col. John McKee, a Negro, who was buried April 7th from the Central Pres- sidential church of that city. Col. McKee was thought to be one of the wealthiest colored men of the city, if not in the country. His estate is valued at $2,500,000. and comprises about 800 pieces of property in this city and 200,000 acres of ore, farm and coal lands in the states of Kentucky and West Virginia, New York, Bonnsylvania and New Jersey. In New Jersey he owned the entire settlement of McKee on the West Jersey Railroad. OUR TRIP TO THE WORLD'S FAIR CITY. The editor and publisher of the Times spent Monday and Tuesday in St. Louis, and while there called on many Sedalia boys, who appear to be doing well. Our first visit was to Mr. Scott Joplin, who is gaining a world's reputation as the Rag Time King. Mr. Joplin is only writing, composing and collecting his money from the different music houses in t. Louis, Caicago, New York and a number of other cities. Among his numbers that are largely in demand in the above cities are the Maple Leaf Club, Easy Winner, Rag Time Dances and Peachermall, all of which are used by the leading piano players and orchestras. We went then to the elegant tosorial parlor, which is owned by Jake wannagan. This parlor has an elegant outfit of four very fine chairs, together with many other modern improvements. Jake is making good money and is virtually living easy. We next paid a visit to the room house of Pyles & Davis at 1911 Market street, where they have 20 nice large rooms, and are doing well, and at this place we found R. O. Henderson and proceeded to call on old friends. During our rounds we run across A. B. tanford, who is running from t. Louis to Mexico, Lee Marshall, Hense Watson, Frank Kelly, Tony and Chas. Williams and Geo. Parker and from there we called on Dr. Jonas. Dr. Curtis, Capt. Tansey and other prominent Negroes. All in all we had a pleasant time. DRAMATIC RECITAL. ROGER FOR JUSTICE OF We are pleased to presse into ers in another column of this paper the announcement of N H Rogers, who is a Republican candidate for re-nomination for Justice of the Peace. Mr. Rogers is a lawyer of 35 years experience, and has served the people of this township for the past term as a faithful and im- partial justice, and has in every case has rendered his decisions upon sub- rational evidence. He has dealt fair and squarely with everyone regardless of color or political affiliations, and by so doing has gained a record that speaks better for him than words. Just ce toward all mankind is his motto and has proved such in all of his business in court matters. By his method of business he has made hundreds of friends among both white and black, who will support him for the second term, which he is entitled to beyond any doubt.
