We shall begin the "They Say" next week, but don't know who is the writer. Look out, fur will fly for awhile A Bill has been introduced in Congress abolishing slavery within the jurisdiction of the United States. And strynge to say that some republicans oppose it No, my son, don't cast your vote for a free trade congressman You are old enough to remember the Coxey army ane the free soup houses. It has been decided to postponed the World's Fair a year and place the responsibility on the steel trust. Now you (see where you missed the opportunity of a lifetime by not getting a fat job you could have hung onto for an extra year. Judge J. L. Smith, who is now a decided candidate tor re-election for Justice of the Peace, has made a very fair record during his past term, and is now making his campaign on his record. The Sedalia Browns met their first defeat Thursday at Boonville The says that they out played the Boonville team, but was held up the impirer. Of course everyone of them has different story to tell about the game, but however the score stands 11 to 13 in favor of Boonville. The spring Rallie at the A. M. E. Church, closed last Sunday night with a grand report from the two clubs, The Ladies club raised $42,00 and Art club backed them by donating $51,20 making a total for the Ladies Club $93.20 The Men's club brought up the rear, and had only $23.00 as a result of their work The grand total shows up the nice sum of $116.21 All hail to the Art Circle and the Lacies Club. Since Benton county has a candidate for Congressman, by the name of Brunjes, and the people of this District has given Springfield the honors once, and has given Saline county a fare chance. Now it come time for the republicacs to give Benton county a chace. She has one of the strongest men in the seventh district for the place, and we believe that if he is nominated, he will be abte to defeat Mr. Hamlin. We would like to know the Republican candidate can expect to get an election without the colored vote. The colored people are as a rule Republican, and generally vote this ticket, but when announces himself as a candidate and solicits their support only only through the columns of a white paper when there is a Negro paper in the same town, then it is hard to say how they will deal with him. If you want the support of the colored men in the convention or primary you must announce yourself with them the same as you do with the Daily Capital or German paper, or we will know that you do not need them when you fail to do this. There is some changes that could be made in our county officials this fall teat would be a great benifit to the colored people, and there only will come at the county convention and at the polls on election day. We must begin to putting our forces together now and do all that we can against any candidate for judge of the county court that is or will be against any competent Negro for janitor of court house. If the present court is against any competent Negro for this umble and slavish possession, then the Negroes throughout the county has a just right to fight them down, whither he be a democrat or a republican. It is a fact that there never has been a Negro deputy or clerk in any department of the court house, and the looks affairs just now seems to tell us that the time has not come yet. But the time has long since come and gone when the eleven hundred or more Negro voters of Pettis county should have had a representative in this court house as janitor. So we urge upon you to be on your guard and less put some Negro from some part of in as janitor. We are pleased to present to our many readers, the name of Mr F. W. Clark, as a republican candidate for Justice of the Peace which will be found among our list of announcements. We are personally acquanted with Mr. Clark, as we have been with him in many battles for the success of the party, and we have always found him to be honest, straight and a perfect, gentleman in every respect, and in every instance we know him to be a close friend to the colored people. For years he has helped to hold up the banner in the second ward, and has so conducted himself as to have gained the undivided confidence of every colored voter in this ward, and we may truthfully say the Township also. Give him the nomination and his majority for election will rank among the leading ones. He is fully qualified and if nominated will add much strength to the ticket. When a candidate waits until the day of the convention before he lets it be known that he is an office seeker he must have been afraid the people would search up his record and find him wanting in manhood. No snap judgment goes this year. You must come out plainly so the people will have a chance to know and look up your record or no go. We want no cowards in this band to make our colors fly. We want valiant hearted men who are not afraid to try. Elsewhere in this issue will be found the announcement of Mr. A. F. Tesmer, who is a can idate for Justice of the Peace. Mr Tesmer is an old resident of our city, and has done much to help build it up. He has worked hard and earnestly for the success of the party of which he is a member. Mr. Tesmer is known by all Sedalians as an honest, straightforward man, and along this line has gained the confidence of the whole people. He has had considerable dealing with the colored people, and in every instance has shown to them his friendship. The members of the convention will make no mistake in selecting him because he is a strong candidate and a qualified man for the office which he now seeks. Short Talk Advertise By Charles Au No. 40. There is no royal road to fortune. Every man who starts out to achieve business success must expect to find plenty of hard, uphill work on the way. Advertising will not make a fortune for you in a day, but if done judiciously, it will pay handsomely in the long run. If the business is of a kind that can be profitably increased, it will pay to advertise it. Money spent for continuous advertising is money well invested. Sporadic expenditure means waste every time. The tenth dollar that is spent for advertising makes the first dollar more valuable. Maybe "There is no royal road to fortune." the direct returns will be very slow in coming. It often happens th the same, and there is no other way in vest money so that it will bring so much profit. The only way he can lose the benefit of his advertising is to stop advertising. Even then he cannot lose it altogether, and for a long time after he has quit he will derive some trade from it. However, if he does a little bit and quits, and then advertises a little bit more and quits again, he will find himself in the position of the man in the well, who climbed up one foot and dropped back two. Copyright, Charles Austin Bates, New York C. C. KELLY, REPUBLICAN CANDIDATE FOR PROSE- Among the announcements in paper will be found the card of Mr. C. C. Kelly, who is a Republican candidate for the nomination of Prosecuting Attorney in the county convention. Mr. Kelley is one of the strongest Republicans in the county, having served our city for the past four years as an able and creditable city attorney, and this office is generally recognized as a stepping stone to that of Prosecuting Attorney. He has made a record which speaks well for him as a lawyer and gentleman. His record as City Attorney will stand for him n years to come, as he has made the best the city has ever had. He is acknowledged as a strong party leader, and has always been ready and willing to do what he could to further the advancement of the party. He is a strong friend of the colored people, and is known by them in every township in the county, and among them has a host of strong supporters. Mr Kelley no doubt is the strongest candidate in the field, regardless of party among all classes of colored voters. Should the convention give him the nomination for Prosecuting Attorney of Pettis county his election is assured from the fact that Republicans and Democrats know and believe that in him this important office will be properly cared for, and every duty performed with credit to every citizen of the county, regardless of their politics or color PAINTING PAPER HANGING, All work done neat and Cheap eave at the Times office. for him J W Scott and Robt Martin Talks on Artising Austin Bates. 40. tune. About five years ago my right ear began to sing, and this kept on getting worse, until I lost my hearing in this car entirely. After five weeks, for catarrh, for three months, without any success, consulted a number of physicians, among others, the most eminent ear specialist of this city, who told me that only an operation could help me, and even that only temporarily, that the head noises would then cease, but the hearing in the affected ear would be lost forever. I then saw your advertisement accidentally in a New York paper, and ordered your treatment. After I had used it only a few days according to your directions, the noises ceased, and today, after five weeks, my hearing in the diseased ear has been entirely restored. I thank you heartily and beg to remain. F. A. WERMAN, 729 S. Broadway, Baltimore, Md. Our treatment does not interfere with your usual occupation. Examination and advice free.
