JAMES ULYSSES WHITE.
The republican nominee for state superintender of Public School, was born at Ring's Creek, in Wayne county this state in September 1894. The night of his birth Prise's army was camped at Patterson, close by, and straggling soldiers learning of his birth came to the house in search for his father, who was a Union man, but they failed to find him. Mr White spent his early manhood in the county of his birth, working on a farm and going to school in the fall. He taught school and saved the more derived therefrom, through his compensation was small, and expended those earnings in keeping himself in the state normal school at Cape Girardeau from which he graduated in 1895.
Mhe next day he was elected principle of the public school at Farmington and Pacific, but accepted the place at Farmington. He remained there six years at a salary from $70 to $115 per month. Then he was elected principle of the California public school and remaining the about one year, and coming from there to St Louis, and remaining in that city for six years as superintendent of the public schools.
From here he went to Brookfield and is now serving his fourth term there.
He was the Republiccau nominee for county school commissioner in Sr Francounty in 1899. The Democratic majority against which he had to contend was 1,050, but Mr White came within 125 of election.
Mr. White is a graduate from the Missouri state normal school: has taken special work in the state university, Chicago university and Cook county normal school, has been an active member of the National Teachers Association since 1881, he was president of the southeast Missouri Teachers Association in 1890; was secretary of the State Teachers Association in 1893; was treasurer of Missouri School Journal Publishing Company from 1997 to 1902, and was president of the jinee-Normal Alumni Association for three years.
Mr. White is a genial and companionable ge tleman and will not dissopoint his frien's who did such effective work to bring about his nomination.
W. S. CRANE
W. S. Crane, the long-term nominee for Railroad commissionersep, was born in Pike county, this state, in 1960 He was a mere strip of a boy when he moved to Newton county and soon after removed from there to Jasper county, where he livee now. He has held one one public office, having served a term as sheriff of Jasper county. The first dollar he ever earned was by his own labor was at work as a miner, he continued in this employment for a number of years, and by economy and a fortunate investment or two which his savfings permitted him to make, he has since been enable to retire, and from a mine worker has become a mine owner and o. erator.
His early years were spent at hard manual labor, as were many of the years of his father's life. He enjoys the reputation of being a big-hearted man who meets all appeals for charity with a rady response and is as ardent in espousing the cause of labor as he is active in promoting Republicanism.
As home delaga es was as absorbed in sounding his praise, making everything else, so far as it was concerned, secondary to his nomination. The Republican state convention made a winning selection in naming such man as him for this office, and no doubt will be elected by a handsome majority.
BARNEY FRÁUENTHAL
Barney Frauenthal, the short-term nominee for the railroad commissioner.
Missouri S
is a Pennsylvanian by birth. He is now 37 years old. He has lived in Missouri twenty-five years and nerry all of this he has been employed at Union depot in St Louis. He began work as a telegrapher and continued in that way until the present Union Station was opened, when he was placed in the bureau of information. He is a married man and has a good family with three children. He has always taken a leading part in the republican battles in the city of St Louis and in state affairs, and will certainly make a winning campaign for the office of the republican party has trusted in his care.
Base Ball Games.
Last Sunday it was quite rainy and muby, but it was not to bad however for the game between the St Louis Quad and Sedalia Blues to cross bats. The attendance was very small on account of the rainy weather, but managers Davis and Swannigan called boys out at 4 o'clock. Both teams started off well but the nearer the end came the poorer the game was, until the score had reached the mark of 17 to 6 in favor of the visitors, which was by the large number errors made by both teams. Mondays game met the St Louisians with a great surprise, the began with one run for the visitors in the ending, and the score stood one to nothing until the eighth ending in which the visitors scored one, making the score two to nothing. The blues then taken their last hits and when thrae men had got on bases, Shackelfort comes to the bat and hits a safe two begged and scores to men and next batter scored another run by a scorer, and the score was then 3 to 2 in favor of the Blues, of which made Davis's face all smiles and Swannigan's face all frowns.
Mondays game was an exceptional good played by both teams, and Sedia boys deserve credit for work of the seco. dlgame this season.

* The game between the Kansas City Bradberry and the Sedalia Blues was a very tame game. both teams played very poor. but the blues seamed to play the worse with the exception of the battery who played the game. the score stood Sedalia 18 and Kansas City 22 after a hard fight of over hours hard work the Sedalia in-field needs to know the game while fielder needs more practice.
Shot in the Head.
Babe Bell shoots Morris Dupree with a 32 Wednesday ev
An exciting shooting affair occured on Main street Wednesday evening, in which Morris Dupree should be glad that he had a thick skull. The shooting was dled by Babe Bell of whom Dupree allegek had robbed him of $5.00 while sleep. It is also said that Dupree had struck Bell with a club over the head and at this time Bell pulled a little S2 pistol and saxons Dupree, just over the right eye, he was then hurried to Dr. J. M Harris and the wound dressed. Dupree is not dangerous because his was so thick the bullet gleanced and only made flesh wound, and Bell is now bond waiting for trial today.

What Heard on the Street concerning local Politics
There are a number of men who would like to be candidates for different offices but will not patronize party papers because it costs a trifle, while they are the only solid support they have.
Some people have an idea that no other man should announce for the same office that he does, but that is wrong. They must remember that the people say who shall and shall not be elected to office.
When a candidate seeks the nomination without the support of the press he has an up-hill fight, as the press is the power behind the throne.

Short Talks on Advertising By Charles Austin Bates.
After a ball starts to roll it will go a certain distance merely by reason of its own momentum.
The heavier and bigger it is the further it will roll. It may have been pretty hard to start it in the first place, but once you get it going a little push now and then will be all that is necessary.
If the ground is soft and rough you will have to push pretty hard. When you get to smooth places it will be easier.
The ball of business is hard to move in hot weather. The ground is more or less sticky and there is a great deal of friction. Still, if you push hard enough, you can move it.
In the Fall, when cool weather has made the road to trade easier and smoother, you will not have to
push so hard unless you want the ball to go faster. If you do not push at all it will come to a standstill even on a sheet of glass.

DEAFNESS OR HARD HEARING ARE NOW CURABLE by our new invention. Only those born deaf are incurable. HEAD NOISES CEASE IMMEDIATELY.
Gentlemen: - Being entirely cured of deafness, thanks to your treatment, I will now give you a full history of my case, to be used at your discretion.
About five years ago my right ear began to sing, and this kept on getting worse, until I lost my hearing in this ear entirely.
I underwent a treatment for catarrh, for three months, without any success, consulted a number of physicians, among others, the most eminent ear specialist of this city, who told me that only an operation could help me, and even that only temporarily, that the head noises would then cease, but the hearing in the affected ear would be lost forever.
I then saw your advertisement accidentally in a New York paper, and ordered your treatment. After I had used it only a few days according to your directions, the noises ceased, and to-day, after five weeks, my hearing in the diseased ear has been entirely restored. I thank you heartily and beg to remain Very truly yours,

"After a ball starts to roll it will go a certain distance merely by reason of its momentum."
If you do not advertise in the Summer—if you do not push the ball at all—it will stop. If you do not advertise in the busy season, business will go on for a certain time at a slow rate of speed. But if you want to get over a good deal of ground in a short time, you had better push it along lively.
The best thing to push it with is good liberal advertising in the best paper you know of. A peculiar thing about the road to business success is that it runs uphill—if you stop pushing your ball it will roll down.
There is no such thing as standing still.

When they become pale and languid, face bloodless, eyes dull, head aching, feet and hands cold, appetite gone or abnormal, and their systems generally run down, they need building up, and their blood needs cleansing.
Give them LAXAKOLA; its gentle bowel action to cleanse, and its tonic properties to build up the system, will show immediate and most beneficial results.
It acts promptly, surely but gently on the bowels, and while stimulating the liver to increased activity, its tonic properties strengthen the nerves, renew vitality and restore color to the face and life and animation to the whole system. It is the only tonic laxative that strengthens and tones them up.
Laxakola for Mothers.-It is particularly valuable and useful to women, especially mothers, as it is a gentle and safe remedy to use during all conditions of health whenever their peculiar and delicate constitutions require a mild and efficient laxative and tonic; while to nursing mothers, worn out with the care of infants and whose systems therefore are particularly susceptible to disease, LAXAKOLA directly appeals.
It clears the complexion, brightens the eye, sharpens the appetite, removes muddy and blotied condition of the skin and cures sick headache to a certainty by removing the cause.
To women suffering from chronic constipation, head-aches, billiousness, dizziness, sallowness of the skin and dyspepsia, LAXAKOLA will invariably bring relief and a positive and permanent cure.
