THE MARKET STATION Agriculture build'ng VOLUMN X No 6 A $321.22 RALLY. THE BIGGEST RALLY IN THE HISTORY. OF THE COL- ORED PEOPLE OF SEDALIA. Held at Taylor Chapel M. E. Church, Sunday, October 25 —Twelve Deserving Captains Lead Their Armies to Victory The work of the valiant workers of Taylor Chapel M. E. church last Sunday will stand in the history as a premium for raising money in a short time, for years. Rev. Richard Davis, the excellent and able leader of this flock of Christian workers, began this battle of a new church rally about three weeks ago last Sunday, and in so doing, he named twelve captains, who were to organize their armies and battle to raise the largest sum for this rally day, last Sunday. The tight began early—without delay—and the town was haunted from one end to the other by these captains and their workers. Socials, suppers, concerts, entertainments and prizes were given during this battle, and also trolley parties—everything that was honorable was done by these workers to raise the money. All last Agric Sunday each captain and their secretaries were busy collecting in their donations until the winding up that night, and after each had reported the results of her battle, the grand total was over three hundred dollars. Moffette..... 13.01 Cash received ..... $322.22 Which is the largest sum ever raised in Taylor Chapel or any other church among the colored people of Sedalia for years The church was filled with the many friends who were anxious to hear of the results, and when the total was announced, the audience burst forth with many cheers for such a victory lead by SEDALIA MISSOURI, OCTOBER 31 1903 our pastor and his able workers. The prize doll which was given away by Mrs. Mattie Carter, was awarded to the little Brown girl. The prize cake awarded by Mrs. Travis was sold at Warfield's restaurant. W. H. Huston, Pres. W. H. Carter, Sec. —Trustee Board. Rev. R. Davis, MORGAN STREET BAP TIST CHURCH FAIR. The Blue Ribbon Club of the Morgan Street Baptist church, under the careful management of Mrs. Rev. Mack, Mrs. Anna Hurdle and Mrs. Lillie Kenney, held a very successful fair all week. The church was beautifully decorated in every department and an excellent program was rendered each night. Thursday night was the banner night, which consisted of an address by Ex-Mayor P. D. Hastain, followed by Jno. Ramsey, president of the literary society. A solo was then rendered by Miss Emma Drake, followed by recitations by Mrs. Kinney and Lady Kinney. Afterwards the drill of a number of small girls in robes was had, under the management of Mrs. Kinney. These little girls made an excellent showing and gave much credit to the church, themselves and their instructor, and was well worthy of a larger audience. The Queen City band ren- culture bui derd a short musical concert every night, which added greatly to the affair. This FAIR has been continued until Monday night on account of the rainy weather. THE GATHERED RAYS. (By H. J. Burton.) Miss Josie Wright, of Boonville, and Mr. W. Carter, of Slater, were united in married October 22. Mr. Carter took his bride and skipped for his farm near Slater. Northeast Sedalia should be delighted with its improvements. When going into Sedalia from the east on the Missouri Pacific railroad, look to your right and see the Geo. R. Smith College, a magnificent building. Rev. T. B. Gardner, of Warrensburg, passed east on the Missouri Pacific for St. Louis. Mrs. Nancy E. Owens, Mrs. Laura A. Kilby and Mrs. F. Hyter are all in St. Louis. Rev. W. P. Brooks, of Moberly, spent two nights at my home. Ben C. Wilson, of, Boonville, is an excellent type of manhood and a man of more than ordin- --- City Taxes For 1903 are now due and become delinquent January 1st. next. Mr. Andrew Beard, of Birmingham, Ala., patented a coupler for railroad cars and sold the patent for $100,000. Mr. Geo. M. Arnold, of Rocheport, went to Boonville and was operated upon by the doctor, and he is getting along poorly. Rev. L. Shepherd, of Boonville, is up in Saline county preaching. Prof. D. E. Taylor, the principal of the school at Rocheport, Mo., is succeeding nicely. Mrs. M. F. Arnold, wife of John Arnold, spent a pleasant trip to Buffalo, New York, and at Niagara Falls. Mr. Nelson R. Pipes and Miss Carrie Cowden, of Rocheport, were united in marriage at St. Louis. The bell will tap for others soon. Mr. Alexander Pipes is repairing and putting new buildings on his place. Mr. D. Eaton, on his farm of nearly two hundred acres north of Rocheport, is noted as a suc ld'ng cessful farmer. We, the persons named below, believe our success dpends upon good management and race pride. Nelson, president of the Afro American Republican league, has issued a call for a national Negro Sufferage Convention to be held in Washington, D.C. December 14 and 15. The call states that the convention is for the purpose of devising such ways and means as will break up southern disfranchisement and preserve the full and equal civil and political rights of American citizens, regardless of color or race. Other cities like St Louis. Kan- sas City and St Joseph has Negro clubs and leagues organized, and are working for success of the re- publican party and the Negro’s in- est in their city. Yes, why cant the thousands of Negro voters of Central Missouri organ- d pane togethee, and dc their duty for the suecess of Koos yelt, Bothwell and their race.
