Being in need of funds to meet the general expense budget, the Lincoln Home Board, at their last meeting decided to issue an appeal to the public for funds. The plan is to solicit a mile of pennies. There are 16 pennies to one foot. How many of our churches, societies and clubs will heed the appeal? We have a bill of $330.36 due. These pennies will be called in Jan. 1, 1910. Let every one give a foot or more of pennies.

Orders Troops to Cairo
Governor Deneen must again be commended for the promptness with which he acted in the crisis. Had the authorities at Cairo been more diligent and sent in the alarm earlier, there would be no new stain on the once fair escutheon of Illinois. The result is two men have been summarily lynched, guilty or innocent-one white and one colored. Shame!
Woman's Club Notes.
The Home Culture Section met at the home of Mrs. Julia Duncan, Monday afternoon. The meeting was called to order by the chairman, Mrs. Roie Hunter. The section adopted the plan outlined by the president, that each section, its chairman and two members, bring in $5, making $15 for each section. Let each member of the club who has been appointed, ask race men of the to help us in this rally. The section had the pleasure of having Mrs. Susan Lawrence Dana with them to continue her lecture on the Holy Land. This makes her second leture. These lectures are illustrated with stereopticon views which makes them highly interesting.
The club women are anxious to raise $50 for the Home by Jan. 1, as the Home is short of funds to meet current expenses. Any of our men who are willing to become a member of the association of the Lincoln Colored Home Board, can give name and one dollar to Mr. Joseph Bunn at the State National Bank or to Mrs. J. C. McClain.
We hope the men of Springfield will, before the new year, give one dollar. It has been said that out of the 950 voters or more the colored men should save $1 for a worthy cause.
The Union Baptist church has the lead in giving every fourth Sunday a collection to the Home. Mrs. Leanah Outland, reporter

It is the only Hot Blast constructed that will hold fire all day at one filling of coal and give a steady heat. We recommend this stove to people who wish a first-class Hot Blast Stove. Colored Skin Made Lighter.
Colored Skin Made Lighter.
The Chemical Wonder Company of New York manufactures seven Chemical "Wonders," which enable colored people to improve their appearance. These wonders cost 50c each. White women spend millions to beautify themselves. Colored people should make themselves attractive as possible. Colored men who use these wonders secure better situations in banks, clubs and business houses. Colored women occupy higher positions socially and commercially, marry better and get along better. (1) Complexion Wonder Creme makes dark skin lighter colored, not with artificial white, but naturally; makes the skin itself lighter colored every time it is applied. Keeps the skin healthy, soft, fine. Makes any colored face more attractive. Improves any colored countenance like magic. (2) Magnetto-metallic comb called "Wonder Comb," can be heated before using and will straighten any hair. Will last a life-time
cd before using and will straighten any hair. Will last a life-time.
(3) Pomade called "Wonder Uncurl," uncurls kinks in hair and keeps it straight, lustrous and flexible. Wonder Uncurl heated into the scalp with a "Wonder Comb" will make the kinkiest head of hair olok handsome.
(4) "Wonder Hair Grow."—Fertilizers in cornfields make cornstalks grow, so this fertilizer rubbed into the scalp makes the hair grow longer; strengthens the scalp so it can hold the hair from falling out. It can be heated into the scalp with a "Wonder Comb."
(5) "Odor Wonder Powder" instantly destroys perspiration odor. Thousands of men are barred from good salaries because of this unseen horror. Thousands of women are shut off from marriage and social life by this invisible barrier. People cannot detect perspiration odor on themselves. Every living being should use this powder.
(6) "Odor Wonder Liquid" is delightful as toilet water; can be used with Odor Wonder Powder or separately. Surrounds the body with fragrance. A great luxury for those who can afford it.
(7) This pink variety of Complexion Wonder Creme, No. 2, is called Shell-Pink. Gives lovely pink cheeks to light brown or mulatto colored faces. Light brown complexion with pink cheeks mark great beauty.
