Great State Fair Closes Largest Crowds in the History of the Fair Attend Despite the Adverse Weather Exhibits and Cattle Superior. When today shall have closed and the gates of the Illinois State Fair closed, the greatest State Fair since its birth will be history. The exhibits were many and of a superior quality. More sheep and chickens than ever before were shown. The attractions were highly pleasing and drew large audiences. Brookins and Hoxsey, aviators, and Oldfield, premier autoist, were the star attractions. The fruit exhibit was scarcer, as but little fruit was raised in this section. The races were interesting and largely attended. The officials of the Fair are to be congratulated for the very excellent manner in which the affair was carried out. --- For COUNTY and JUVENILE GEM CAFE 819 E. THOMPSON & NAYLOR Photos, Post Cards and all Varities of Novelties Grand fall Opening, Thursday, Oct. 12. Madame Clark-Thompson Dr. Ganaway and Wife Killed Well Known Decatar Couple Are Killed in Disastrous Inter urban Wreck Near Staunton, Ill., Tuesday The death of Dr. H. C. Ganaway and wife of Decatur a mighty pall. He was one of the most highly respected physicians of Decatur and a good citizen—his wife an estimable lady. Both are well known for their congeniality and loved and admired for their affable dispositions. When the news reached this city their many friends hoped it was erroneous, but alas! it was true. Language is inadequate to express our sorrow and the sympathy that we here extend to the survivors and innumerable friends who are now sorely stricken with grief. It is two bad! Oh that it might not have been! Dr. and Mrs. Gannaway left Springfield on the 1 P. M. car for St. Louis, they were to have returned Wednesday for the fair here. Poor man! poor woman! How can this loss be atoned for? Decatur was proud of them. Springfield friends and acquaintances adored and admired them What a pity! what a pity!. Dr. Ganaway was a graduate of Mehary medical college, class of 1899 and came to Decatur to practice medicine in 1904. May the Omnipotent God console the bereaved and give us that Job like patience and forbearance, for in the very midst of life we are in death. Chicken Raising Chicken raising should be given more attention. There is money in raising chickens and we commend this business to the colored people. Every back yard is large enough to raise some chickens. You need not expect to make it pay large dividends soon, but it will pay. Be industrious and raise something. Be producers, and not mere extravagant consumers. Booker Washington Honored. Booker T. Washington, the greatest commoner the world has is being received with pomp and admiration in Europe. He is being received by kings and crowned heads. This should inspire the youth and the hoary heads of the American Negro alike, and instill within them that "worth makes the man." History will record this man among the greatest of the nation's heritage. Miss Hildren Johnson of Decatur attended the Fair Monday. She was the guest of Mrs. E. L. Rogers Sunday and Monday.
