NO.51 PETER MYERS FOR SUPERVISOR PETER MYERS FOR SUPERVISOR Among the ten men to be elected April 4 next, is Peter Myers, the well known business man, who conducts a gentlemen's clothing store on North Side of Square. Mr. Myers is so well known that it is not necessary to say a long say. He is well qualified to fill the place and has always proven to be a man of the best character giving to the colored man, as to all men, a fair and square deal. PULASKI COUNTY ILL. Not all of us know that Pulaski Co. has over 450 Negro farms located within its confines. Massac Co. is next. Attorney Rice of Mound City tells that Pulaski Co. has more colored farms than any other county in any other state North of Mason and Dixon's line. Mr. Rice also says that there is no material race friction in the county, that the white and colored people get along harmoniously and that the Negroes are buying property and making headway, all of which is gratifying. Don't drive away business and increase your taxes by voting "dry." Colored people are drawing annually nearly $2.000 from labor caused by saloons being legally run 6 days in a week. Put these saloous out of business and nearly half of the Colored people will move away, causing the lodges and churches to suffer. Can't you see it is not yet time to vote Lincoln dry? This is no time to vote the saloons out of Lincoln. For the past 3 years we have had starvation times and the people have been taxed and burdened to "death." So if you are in favor of letting "well enough alone" you should act accordingly and get your friends to do likewise. This is not a moral question, it is an economical question, because, if saloons are voted out, a certain amount of liquor will be imported or those who desire will go elsewhere. You will observe that the republican ticket for Supervisors is composed of some of the very best men in this county and, every republican is urged to support that ticket. It is important from a political view point for this ticket to succeed. The republican party must be elected in this county, state and nation next fall and the only way success can be had is to begin at the bottom and now is the time. There is no reason for bolting the ticket or even apathetic. The Colored people see that from a party stand point. The best party for them is the republican party and its men, in local or national affairs. It really does not pay to have dry spots. Look the matter over and give it a fair consideration, even church people would prefer orderly saloons to "blind pigs." It has been proven that where a city is dry and the towns nearby are wet, the women have more trouble keeping their husbands at home than where a man can secure what he desires. If the Lincoln people desire their taxes not to increase and fire protection to decrease, vote to stay as you are. SATURDAY, APRIL 1,1916 Because an 11 year old boy in a public school in Iowa refused to salute the American flag, a judge sentenced the lad to 3 years in a reform school and suspended the sentence, allowing the boy's father to send him to a private school, a bigger fool act has never before been done, the judge should have been sentenced somewhere, what does an 11 year old boy know about the efficacy in saluting the flag? This was an irrational act. THE JAIL FARM The farm, procured by the County Jail, near the Sangamon river, on which Mr. Mester purposes raising corn and potatoes by prisoners' labor, is a capital experiment and will lead to great results. We have often contended that a work-house should be established and lawbreakers be allowed to pay for their transgressions, but a prison farm is ten fold better and will be a great asset to the county and the prisoners.
