Club managers met at Lyles & Williams' pool room last Tuesday evening and disposed of the prize car matter. As the club had not sold enough tickets to justify the giving of a car, they deducted their expenses from the amount received which left a balance of $90.00. The coupons and pennants in a box and a little boy drew the winning ticket therefrom, viz: "S. 54 No. 18" which was held by J. H. Lawson, proprietor of the tailor shop, corner of Fourth and Jackson streets and he was given a certified check for the $90. On last Saturday evening the wedding of Mr. J. Banks and James Morgan, which is a guarantee that patrons will get the right sort of service. The cafe upstairs will be conducted in first class style with meals served at all hours. THE MEMORIAL SERVICE. By Frederick Douglass Lodge, Quite a Credible and Notable Occasion. The memorial service held by Frederick Douglass Lodge 9005, G. U. O of O. F., at St. Peter's, M. E. church last Sunday night was all that could be expected from start to finish, notwithstanding the handicap caused by some absentees and misunderstandings. The opening song as lined by B. L. White was a treat of the soul. The forewords of J. A. Hanly in his address of welcome was a revelation highly credible and timely and was well received by the large audience. The splendid words of A. J. Roberts, the first N. G. of the lodge, was to the point and inspiring to all. A roll of the dead as carried out was no longer the climax but "something new under the sun," in this great Northwest. The words of Orrington C. Hall and Rev. Jas. S. Strong were also timely and well received. Mrs. Alice Franklin on behalf of Household of Ruth 553 gave a splendid paper in her own classic style. A song, "Sweet and Low," that thrills the soul, was sung by Miss Cornelia Goehl, Household 671. The address of William R. Harris. Esq. of Minneapolis, on behalf of St. Anthony Lodge 2877 was indeed befitting the man. The sermon by Rev. James M. Henderson was the apex of his efforts thus far in our midst. Special appreciation and thanks are tendered to Mesdames Addie Crawford Mater and Emma Shaw Archer for their splendid service in song and music. And last, but by no means least, the man responsible for it all, B. L. White, to whom a vote of thanks and a blue ribboned medal is due. He believes in starting on time and keep-ing going. And that they did not end on time was the fault of his. He led a splendid splendar from the hall to the church, escorted members of Patriarchy 114 of St. Paul and Past Grand Masters Council of Minneapolis. It was a splendid affair in every away. ```markdown ``` CLARK'S DELICATESSEN AND ICE CREAM PARLOR ST.PAUL'S MOST UP-TO-DATE CAFE & ICE CREAM PARLOR YPU CAN GET WHAT YOU WANT AND WHEN YOU WANT IT AT CLARK'S A LA CARTE MEALS AT ALL HOURS Try Schmidt's MALTA with your meals ALL KINDS OF SOFT DRINKS 338 KENT ST. Do you realize that the United States Navy is still short many thousands of men to properly man the ships now building to be ready for active war service the latter part of this year? The navy needs real men—red-blooded Americans who are willing to do their bit for good old U. S. A. as did the men and boys of 1776 and 1881. Are you going to sit tight and "let George do it," and in the future be ashamed to answer your children and grandchildren when they say, what did you do during the great war? Or are you going to be in a position that Daddy was a navy volunteer, fought for the troops of ours and helped to make the blessings of liberty secure for ourselves and our posterity, and also helped save some of the starving mothers and children of Europe?" now is the time for you to step forward and volunteer for the navy always found ready when needed by your Uncle Sam. Men of the type of Farragut, Dewey, Lawrence, Perry and Nathan Hale are wanted. There will be of them in this city who will "make history" when they finally volunteer. The Navy has never been found wanting when the nation needed men. Volunteer now, write or telegraph Navy Recruiting Station, Minneapolis. It is a patriotic duty, therefore, at this time, to keep the home and the home life up to the highest point of efficiency. No home can do its best without a piano. You need it for the education of the children. You need it for the family life, to keep up good cheer, to make home really home. You need it that you may sing the nation's songs, thereby to keep burning the fires of patriotism. Can you imagine a patriotic people without the inspiration of patriotic music? Be sure to have music in your home, for your family's sake and for the sake of your country. We sell standard pianos on terms of from $5 to $10 a month.
