The Representative of All the People All the Time. Senator James Handlan is a candidate to succeed himself as a member of the State Senate from the 38th Senatorial District on the record he has made in the service of his constituents. The fact that he filled two terms as a Representative in the State Legislature and two terms in the Senate is evidence that he must have given good service. It has been his aim to represent the best interests of all classes in his district without regard to color or creed, and he has evidenced his loyalty for several months by giving free a large portion of his time to the military draft board. He has always labored in the interest of the common people and supported the measures in the legislature that he believed to be for their benefit, and his trust friends are found in the ranks of the laboring men of all nationalities. And as the old adage says: "It's not the time to swap horses when crossing a stream." So the voters of the district will show sound judgment in voting to retain him just where he is. O. D. Howard. PAID ADVERTISEMENT Prepared for P. J. Ryan, 779 Edmond Street, St. Paul, Minn., by J. E. Corcoran, 656 Sherburne avenue, for which $1.00 per inch is to be paid. 1921 P. J. He came to St. Paul when three years of age and has been a resident of the city ever since. He received his education in the public schools of the city. Mr. Ryan is fully qualified to fill the position to which he aspires and if elected will look after the interests of the District in the same careful manner in which he does his personal business. Mr. Ryan's record has been investigated by representatives of the unions of the city and found to be O. K. Louis C. Watson, 401, Carroll avenue, was discovered in the home of Mrs. J. T. Dugan, 1731 Princeton avenue, early Thursday morning, presumably for the purpose of robbery and was shot by her five times, four shots entering his head and one his heart, killing him instantly. Investigations in the case are still in progress. PAID ADVERTISEMENT. Prepared for Martin J. O'Malley, 1109 Como Place, St. Paul, by Hammond Turner, 321 Metropolitan Bank Bldg., for which $1.00 per inch is to be paid. MARTIN J. O'MALLEY Candidate For COUNTY TREASURER We present, with great pleasure, to the very few of our good people who might not know him, our good friend, the present efficient, courteous and affable Treasurer of Ramsey County, MARTIN O'MALLEY. He is an executive of whom we are proud, a man who is always on the alert for methods to improve the systems of the work of his office; he has installed a system which is a timesaver to the tax-payer as well as almost barring errors in the work of receiving payments of taxes. He is an unusual man in many ways; he has not yet taken one day's vacation during his tenure of office; he is an accountant of great ability, and is an orator who is well worth listening to. He is patriotic in the highest degree, and a leader in all good works. Knows no man solely by race, color or creed. He is just the man to relect as Treasurer of Ramsey County. PAID ADVERTISEMENT Prepared by and for B. G. Novak, 741 Van Buren street, St. Paul, Minn., for which $1.00 per inch is to be paid. 7-21-22 B. G. NOVAK Candidate For STATE SENATOR 38th District B. G. NOVAK. Candidate for State Senator of the 38th District. B. G. Novak, candidate for State Senator, has given to the people of the State, good clean service in the Legislature for two terms and is now seeking the nomination for Senator of the 38th District. I feel sure that if he is nominated and elected he will do his whole duty to all the people without regard to race, color or creed. He has a record of giving honest service in supporting the interest of the common people and is sound on the labor question. Just at this time when honest service is the demand of the hour, the public will seek the men whom it can trust. I know that in the election of Mr. Novak we will have a man with a broad knowledge of the wants of the people. He is the taxpayers' friend and 100 per cent American. Geo. B. Lowe. PAID ADVERTISEMENT Prepared by and for George J. Ries, Court House, St. Paul, for which $1.00 per inch is to be nailed. 346 Candidate for Re-election as Auditor of Ramsey County GEORGE J. RIES. County Auditor of Ramsey County is All Right. Just as there are jim crow colored men, who are the greatest traducers of the characters and are a most serious obstacle to the advancement of the more numerous, serious-minded, respectful and respectable colored men, so there are people in high official life in this country who are mis- understood; not because of any act of their own, but because of vipers on American soil who have prospered by American methods, and institutions, and are possessed by German names and imaginary German loyalty. Imaginary, because if they really care for the Kaiser, why don't they fly to his rescue? He needs them, we do not. George J. Ries is not one of the Americans who waited until April 6, 1917, to get a baptism in the faith of world democracy. He is a practitioner of personal democracy, without which world democracy is impossible. He is not a 90 per cent American who recognizes the wonderful endowments of this country as a means of development for one class or caste of people only, but he is a 100 per cent American who believes in America for all, and he is a liberal, liberal, justice, her opportunity for all, as evidence go to the office of George J. Ries, County Auditor, and you may see O. C. Hall, the only colored clerk on the county pay roll. It is well to note and to long remember the sage words of Mayor Hodgson in his inaugural address: "But while we thus earnestly decree this single standard of honor and service, let us avoid the weakening and demoralizing influences of hysteria and suspicion." W. R. Dyer. Crepeau, 324 Burgess street, St. Paul, Minn., for which $1.00 per inch is to be paid. J. H. H. HENRY J. CREPEAU Candidate For STATE SENATOR 38th District NO TIME FOR RACE' SLACKERS. This is the time when one must be a 100 per cent American. There is no question as to the absolute loyalty of the colored man. This is also the day and time for 100 cent Race Loyalty. Our people at this time have no tolerance with RACE SLACKERS. For years the colored voters living in the 8th and 9th and part of the 12th Wards have furnished the balance of power in the election of two members to the State Legislature and one State Senator. This being the 38th District. We have always stood-up to the rack and voted straight and in return we have received empty promises by sleek politicians. The best we have ever received in the shape of recognition has been an occasional janitor's job and only during the time of the Legislature. There have always been clerical jobs at the disposal of a State Senator and by Members of the lower House of the Legislature, but in the distribution of these positions, although elected by our votes, we have been ignored entirely. Chicago has two colored members of the City Council; New York has a colored member of the State Legislature, Indianapolis and Cleveland have also Race members of their respective City Council; Pittsburgh has a colored man as Assistant City Attorney and in other cities where our votes count, the colored people has received substantial recognition. This condition was only brought about by our people, forming new alliances. Let us profit by what our people have done in those cities DISCARD THE OLD AND ALIEN BORDER BY STRONGLY SUPPORTING FOR STATE SENATOR FROM THE 3TH DISTRICT, MR. HENRY J. CREAPEAU. MR. CREPEAU IS A MAN OF HIGH CHARACTER AND OF INTEGRITY; HE HAS BEEN STRONGLY ENDORSED BY MANY ORGANIZATIONS IN THE DISTRICT AND IN HIS ELECTION WE CAN EXPLORE WITH FLEULI AND LUASARE SERVICE AT A LEGISLATORY RECONGITION TO THE RACE WHENEVER AND WHEREVER POSSIBLE. IF YOU ARE A 100 PER CENT RACE MAN YOU WILL REALIZE THE WISDOM OF A NEW DEAL IN A DISTRICT WHERE WE HOLD THE BALANCE OF POWER. ATTORNEY WM. T. FRANCIS IN HIS RACE FOR THE STATE LEGISLATURE HE DEAR THE PRESENT HE NO ASSISTANCE FROM SENATOR HANDLAN, THE PRESENT SENATOR. THIS IS NOT THE TIME "TO TURN THE OTHER CHEEK." WE MUST RETALIATE AT THE POLLS AND THE NEXT TIME WE CAN EXPECT RESULTS. I HAVE NO PERSONAL INTEREST OR AMBITION AND I HAVE HAD NO PERSONAL DISAPPOINTMENTS: YOU WILL RACE IN THE RACE HIS RACE COMES FIRST. I AM ONLY FIGHTING FOR A SLIICE OF REAL DEMOCRACY IN A DISTRICT WHERE WE HOLD THE BALANCE OF POWER. IF YOU ARE NOT A RACE SLACKER YOU WILL VOTE YOUR PROTEST OF THE OLD METHOD BY VOTING FOR HENRY J. CREPEAU AS STATE SENATOR OF THE 38TH DISTRICT. F. D. McCracken, 410 Court Blk. Six pounds of wheat flour, or a month's supply each member of the family, is the limit fixed Food Administration. PAID ADVERTISEMENT Prepared by and for James Hand lan, 19 Winnipipe Ave. St. Paul, Minn. for which $1.00 per inch is to be paid P. A. JAMES HANDLAN Candidate for Re-election SENATOR HANDLAN. It has been his job to represent all classes in his district without regard to color or creed, and he has evidenced his loyalty for several months by giving free a large portion of his time to the military draft board. He has always labored in the interest of the common people and supported the measures in the legislature that he believed to be for their benefit, and his truest friends are found in the ranks of the laboring men of all nationalities. And as the old adage says: "It's not the time to swap horses or the time to vote the voters of the district will show sound judgment in voting to retain him just where he is. O. D. Howard. RYAN Candidate for REPRESENTATIVE 38th District P. J. Ryan, candidate for the office of State Representative for the 38th Legislative District was born in Minnesota thirty-five years ago. K. Louis C. Watson, 401 Carroll avenue, was discovered in the home of Mrs. J. MARTIN J. O'MALLEY Candidate For COUNTY TREASURER We present, with great pleasure, to the very few of our good people who might not know him, our good friend, the present efficient, courteous and affable Treasurer of Ramsey County, MARTIN J. O'MALLEY. He is a executive of whom we are proud, a man who is always on the alert for methods to improve the systems of the work of his office; he has installed a system which is a timesaver to the tax-payer as well as almost barring errors in the work of receiving payments of taxes. He is an unusual man in many ways; he has not yet taken one day's vacation during his tenure of office; he is an accountant of great ability, and is an orator who is well worth listening to. He is patriotic in the highest degree, and a leader in all good works. Knows no man solely by race, color or religion. He elects as Treasurer of Ramsay County. Prepared by and for B. G. Novak, 741 Van Buren street, St. Paul, Minn. for which $1.00 per inch is to be paid. L. A. A. B. Paul, for which $1.00 per inch is to be paid. 346 Candidate for Re-election as GEORGE J. RIES. County Auditor of Ramsey County is All Right. Just as there are jim crow colored men, who are the greatest traducers of the characters and are a most serious obstacle to the advancement of the more numerous, serious-minded, respectful and respectable colored men, so there are people in high official life in this country who are mis- plicate Exposure understood; not because of any act of their own, but because of vipers on American soil who have prospered by American methods, and institutions, and are possessed by German names and imaginary German loyalty. He is not a 90 per cent American who recognizes the wonderful endowments of this country as a means of development for one class or caste of people only, but he is a 100 per cent American who believes in America for all, and all for America, her liberty, her justice, her opportunity for all. As evidence go to the office of George J. J. B. H. HENRY J. CREPEAU Candidate For STATE SENATOR 38th District NO TIME FOR RACE SLACKERS. This is the time when one must be a 100 per cent American. There is no question as to the absolute loyalty of the colored man to the nation. This is also the day and time for 100 per cent Race Loyalty. Let us profit by what our people have done in those cities, DISCARD the OLD RING AND PORM NEW ALLIANCES STATE SENATOR FROM THE 38TH DISTRICT, MR. HENRY J. CREPAEU MR. CREPEAU IS A MAN OF HIGH CHARACTER AND OF INTEGRITY; HE HAS BEEN STRONGLY ENDORSED BY MANY ORGANIZATIONS IN THE DISTRICT AND IN HIS ELECTION WE CAN EXPECT FAITHFUL AND VALUABLE LEISURE, LEISURE RECOGNITION TO THE RACE WHENEVER AND WHEREVER POSSIBLE. IF YOU ARE A 100 PER CENT RACE MAN YOU WILL REALIZE THE WISDOM OF A NEW DEAL IN A DISTRICT WHERE WE HOLD THE BALANCE OF POWER. AT TORNEY WM. T. FRANCIS IN HIS TURE TWO YEARS AGO RECEIVED NO ASSISTANCE FROM SENATOR HANDLAN, THE PRESENT SENATOR. THIS IS NOT THE TIME "TO TURN THE OTHER CHEEK." WE MUST RETAILIATE AT THE POLLS AND THE NEXT TIME WE CAN EXPECT RESULTS. I HAVE NO PERSONAL INTEREST OR AMBITION AND I HAVE HAD NO PERSONAL DISAPPOINTMENTS; YOU KNOW ME CAN ONLY SAY THIS RACE COMES FIRST. OR IIGHTHOUSE OR SLICE OF REAL DEMOCRACY IN A DISTRICT WHERE WE HOLD THE BALANCE OF POWER. IF YOU ARE NOT A RACE SLACKER YOU WILL VOTE YOUR PROTEST OF THE OLD METHOD BY VOTING FOR HENRY J. CREPEAU AS STATE SENATOR OF THE 38TH DISTRICT. F. D. McCracken, 410 Court Blk. Six pounds of wheat flour, or a month's supply each member of the family, is the limit fixed by Food Administration.
