There is a great deal of como-
n over the Morrison jury.
New Year, new laws, new devil,
new claws. Look out "fellow"
Lynching still goes on despite the message of President McKinny just issued.
The state and national officers are preparing to wear their best ties and shake hands again.
We have been asked so very many questions lately that we are refused to talk.
We have tried to settle all our rents for 19co. But like the C—we are always behind.
There is a doctor in Wichita so claims he can cure all ills for twenty-five cent medicine: surely we are a good many saloons. you want to see fun just write a joke on some tellow's mule if you will be Joshed to death explanations. We were so poor in pants till did not have any Christmas, we contented ourselves for bealive.
The ladies of Eldorado have attempted to lynch Jessie Harrison for they could have be that long ago. It is wrong Chicago papers to print all my hear as facts.
Some fellows have it still in for republican party, they are for jawing about Porto Rica and home rule, or Manila or some ce.
there is naught to fear every who knows us will tell you words true and plain, what we and we make no pretenses, are "there."
It is too late to try to fool theple. We have kept the good and friendship of the people a majority all along and there need for us to hurry or worin due time we shall be reade.
We have been in favor of just-but not of capital punishment. Judge Lynch three colored have just died that kind of and one white man. In the few days the world is getting into a channel of despair. There are many sad cases of incidents frequently happening all of them can not be attributed to the use of liquor. Some are worse in temper and charm who never smelled an intoxent. Be fair and just accidents natural.
there are colored men in Toppa said to worth from ten to fif- thousand dollars and to say least many of them can't sign hundred dollar bond. Hence it not necessary to boast when living in plaster paris for theople will find out where you They stand with notoriety publication,

DO RIGHT--KNOW THAT YOU ARE RIGHT; BEAR NO MAN; BUT RENDER JUSTICE TO ALL.
DENNISON KANS.
Dennison, Kansas is a nice little burg ten miles on the north western R. R., west from Valley Falls. Most of the people there are a thriving class trying to promote the business of the town. While on the other hand, as usual there are always bosses who take no interest in any thing, hence they think they are either dexterous or very wise men. However there are always enough good people in these communities to carry on business and don't need to consult this class of ringsters. Dennison has a population of 350 and also many good stores.
WONDERFUL POET.
Thus far Albert Edwards, who is a helper at the city Electric Plant has not left the city to study and write poetry. Yet it is rumored that Albert is certainly going to throw up his job and leave the city for parts more congenial for poetry.
Albert is a natural born and had it not been for Sup't Goodwin and Mr. Roper and a few more of his friends he would have shook the dust from the plant long ago, thus far he has been contented to remain.
PROF. JACKSGN
There is another industrious gentleman in. Topeka that has adopted the plan of Mr J. E. Nissley in this city for all "waifs" in the shape of boys, and that is Prof. Jackson. Director of the 23d Regiment Band.
He intends to make them entirely useful by learning some kind of trades.
This is all (OK) on the part of the genial professor and if he does not receive his reward here he will receive it in the sweet bye and bye.
Prot. Jackson has already leased the hall at 420 Kansas avenue for a permanent residence for the band will fix it up tip-top.
VALLEY FALLS KANSAS.
The people of Valley Falls are a goodly set, they treated us very kindly when we were there.
There are a number of fine people in that city who deserve the public patronage.
The firm of Hutchins and Hutchins, the firm of Doolittle Hardware Company; the firm of Wendel and Wendel, the neatly appointed Drug Store of Mr. J. W. McDaniel. Sehuyler Furniture Company, also the novelty department of Mr. F. Carr.
The kindness of Dr. Swallow, Dr. Aitken, the dentist and Dr. Gillman, one of the veteran physicians of the city, also the kindness of Dr. Gephart, of the bank, and many others are up-to-date in every respect.
JAMES C. SMITH
THE LEADING BUYER IN HIDES and FURS.
Few no doubt have taken notice of the amount of business done in this city by Mr. James C. Smith, dealer in the above me. The year just closed show a remarkable success done by Mr. Smith. One reason, he lets the people know that he is a business man, he is known all over Kansas Most parties ship their goods to him for he is an honest buyer and pays the top of the market for them.
Since Mr. Smith has had full control of this business in this city, he has built up a great business, and suffice to say, it has all been achieved by dealing honest and doing just as he agrees.
With the steady increase et business pouring in, Mr. Smith, will no doubt in the near future make a move toward the erection of a larger building for the accommodation of his large shipments and receipts. His office 108-110 east Third street, Topeka, Kansas.
Parents who want their children to be polite must have good manners themselves.
"But the world never forgives," observes one of the characters in a popular novel, "it is only God and our mothers that can do that.
Our higher education runs too much Latin and Greek and too little'e to learning the use of "seen" and 'done.' Ex.
A man is a fool to be jealous of good woman, and he is a fool to be jealous of a worthless one. Now draw your own conclusion.
Consistency is a very essential thing in almost every walk of life, and the individual that is not consistant any thing, is a very peculiar specie of a being, and need to be pitted. However, there are some Negroes so inconsistent and self conceited by reason ot a compliment from some one, and viewing themselves in a mirror some where. They imagine that there is nothing but them, and like a peacock, they are forever in a strut, usually boasting, of themselves. The are consistent, self-respecting and progressive individual, we can see as usual-pursuing the even tenor of his own way, making friends, and succeeding in life. Ex.
TUSKEGEE NOTES
Tuskegee's exhibit at the Alabama State Fair, received a gold medal diploma which is the highest character of award given by the officers of the fair.
The endowment fund of the institution now amounts to $184,050 Principal Washington is at the North endeavouring to raise the necessary amount to reach the 50,000 which he desires.
A northen lady sent Mr. Washington a check this week for $4,000 with which to build the much needed hospital.
"Young man dont swear," remarks a Kansas exchange. 'There is no occasion for it outside the printing office, where it is useful when the paper is behind time. It also comes in handy in proof-reading and it is indispen sible when the ink works bad and the press begins to buck. It is often brought into use when the foreman is mad and it has been known to entirely remove that tired feeling of the editor when he looks over the paper after it is printed. Outside the printing office it is a foolish habit. Ex.
A western minister is said to be insane and imaines he is a centipede. His hallucination may be due to the many pairs of slippers donated by the female portion of his congregation. Ex.
The amature fisherman can reel off just as big a fish story as the professional.
If it weren't for our little trials and tribulations, life would soon become monotonous.
In the will of a charitable man it was found he had left a legacy to a legless friend.
It doesn't pay to stick your nose into other people's business—unless you are a lawyer.
The clock is never inclined to boast; on the contrary, it is alway running down its own works.
It is really amusing to read the opposition press comment on the President's message. None of them can see any good in it. It makes one think of the old quotation; "Just as you are pleased at finding fault, you are displeased at finding perfection.
Lacrosse county seat of Rush county is a splendid city of 500 the majority in it are democrats but the county goes republican.
The literay at Browns chapel was well attended on last Friday evening the number of interest being the mock trial of Frank Chiles. the trial of witnesses and arguments in the case were very amusing. Dennis Hope and Geo. Smith conducted the prosecution while John Taylor and P. C. Thomas appeared for the defense. Chiles was found guilty of stealing two sacks of salt as charged.
Any man who has ever patronized a church fair fully realizes the folly of investing in lottery tfickets. Ex.

There is a good deal of bluff about some candidates. There is a certain one telling it all around that he is going to be nominated to some office, but to say the least he will be the slowest man in the race. If this is not true come around and take something on the editor.
Those big mouth stomach-ach ing politicians who want to see us get the worst of it can have the pleasure in the future, for we are going to stick.
