It takes a mighty sensible unbiased man to sit in judgement and pass on the questions of his friends and see of his enemies.

I hope to meet you all again next but I don't think I can possibly do. These were the sad words of J. E. Emery of Manitou Colo- in her parting address to the owners of the Press.
A news comes in the LEDGER office of President Roosevelt slept all night on the bare ground in company with boys and one of their companions. Is the sensible sleep, Mr. Roosevelt, right, we never slept better lives than on the bare ground.

VIENNA, Aug. 16—A sensational attempt to blow up the imperial yacht Hohenzollern while the Kaiser and Czar were both on board is reported here by the Neue Wiener journal—The publication, which bears the signs of uthanticity, has caused the wildest excitement here.
Sam Jones, colored ex-policeman, was arrested Satur lay charged with torging the name of Frank Bulla to a check of $28. A few days ago H, W. Lewis gave Sam Jones two cheeks payable to Mr. Bulla and the man was to give them to Mr. Bulla. Instead of doing this it is alleged that Jones forged the name of Mr. Bulla to one check and then endorsed it himself and cashed it at the National Bank of Commerce. He gave the other check to Mr. Bulla. When Mr. Bulla and Col. Lewis made a settlement a few days ago, it was found that one check was missing and in hunting for it they found it had been cashed at the bank and Mr. Jones was arrested. "Searchlight".
CITY OF 70,000

Editor Taylor of the Plaindealer of Salt Lake City says they have only 500 voters in Salt Lake City and less than a thousand in the state and only 98 colored pupils were enrolled last term, and that they have no representation at all and the first proposition for a colored policecon was made recently. A brother of J. B. Jones of this city is an applicant for a poitcherman.

We thank you for past courtesies and dein a continuance I am your humble servant - Editor.'
It's an old adage and true, that, "Nothing goes over the devil's back that doesn't come under his stomach". This saying is so old that the memory of man "runneth not to the contrary"; yet, how many are there who in their great desire to do harm and evil to their fellow man lose sight entirely of this fact. Every man, every woman will certainly reap what they sow. If you sow evil, evil will be your reward; if you sow the seeds which you hope will tear down race enterprises, the re-action will four fold hurt you. There is no man or woman under the sun who ever sowed evil and got good results. It's a rule of nature, as fixed and unmovable as the earth. Then, does it not behoove each of us to do as much good as we can and in as many places as we can? Searchlight.
Some parts of Brittany a curious marriage custom prevails on certain fete days the marriageable girl appear in red petticoats with white or yellow borders around them: The number of borders denotes the portion the father is willing to give his daughter. Each white band denotes two francs per annum; each yellow band represents 1,000 francs per annum—Ex
Out in Barton county, Kansas, some days ago a number of boys and girls drove out into the county a few miles to hold a picnic. On unpacking the baskets that had been brought along the girls found that the boys had provided eight bottles of beer as a portion of their share of the refreshments; and the girls didn't do a thing but smash the bottles against the nearest tree.

According to the Wamego Turres a man went into a clothing store there and tried on a coat and vest. When the proprietor turned to get the pants the fellow ran off. Some peace disturber as we understand written some very mean words on the door leading to a joint in this City. The man who did it played the part of a coward. HELP US OUT.
Marriages, births, divorces and deaths are all matters of appropriate mention in every well regulated weeklv paper but such mention is often absent simply because information is not given the publisher, but who gets the blame for their non-appearance? Show some interest in the welfare of the local paper; get to the office such intelligence as the public generally are interested in thus pleasing them as well as accommodating us, when we are working for the public good. The editor of a newspaper is not ubiquitous; he must and does depend upon friends to help make an interesting paper.

A doctor says people drink to much water at Excelsior Springs and that they should consume the article under direction of a physician. That's the way with these doctors. They never give the people what the want. The people there are not satisfied without they have water swilled into them. The doctors also make the mistake on all patients of prohibiting the very things sick people want to eat. Some day there is going to be rebellion and the doctors will be chased out of town. They ought to take note of the signs of the times.

An exchange says that seven years ago a newly married man started from his home in an eastern city for the butcher shop to buy a feef-steak. He forgot his errand and did not return, and searching parties tailed to find a trace of him. After waiting three years his wife gave him up for dead and remarried. The second husband died and the other day the widow was shocked when the first husband walked into the house and handed her a beef steak. He could not remember a thing of his past life. He came to himself in Naponee. The present price of meat probably brought him to.
They listened to the men of state
Who worthy council did relate
And each deserving Editor
Proved here to be an orator.
And in that band a Miller came
Whose upright courage we must name
And Rivers wite power to wield
Proclaimed his cause with worthy zeal
Chiles, Jeltz and Childers all the three
Were men of just integrity,
Duncan and Pinkney noble men
Prove the sword lesser than the pen.
And then, forsooth, there came a Guy
Whose gifted powers we can't deny
Who there by chance a Perkins met
Who past the zenith has not set.
A Taylor from the Mormon land
A dauntless gallant, made this band
Who formed among themselves a tie
To capture but divide the pie.
But in my memory hovers yet
Which none of us shall soon for g
The tables spread in splendor there
Mid kind brave men and ladies fair
With toasts and music's reverie
We banqueted in laughing glee
May blessings fall upon the head
Of host and hostess of that spread.
At last the parting came for all
When we must leave that happy hall
with sad farewells the close we saw
So meet next year at wichita.
