Be you faithful and you will win out.
Go ahead, no more elections for two years.
"Time will tell" in fact time is a great interpreter.
He who serves the devil we are and has the devil to pay.
No need to complain now, about work. Kans. is jammed full of work.
We have had a very successful spring in the way of cold weather.
The man who is in the habit of "butting in" is now waiting to "butt out."
Pres. Roosevelt was here recently and made a good and never forgotten impression.
Kusas is getting her share of the storm period by smashing along at a rapid rate.
We are always glad to promote the welfare of others we don't care for ourselves. We will "live anyhow till we die."
We don't like so much deceit as some people, is a good reason why some of that class don't "slobber" on us.
Most of the druggist now have laid their heart to rest by doing perhaps a little better business nowadays than "this."
We have got ourselves together again after the fire and heap of debris that fell on "our suit" at this office some weeks ago.
Some of the old times say the cuir crops are ruined but still their are lots of ungrown fruit on nearly all the orchard "family."
The everlasting centipede still hangs around our office but if we catch him we are going to take a shot at him.
Poor people have poor ways, poor memory, poor days, but what of that they after all are the happiest people in the world.
The devil has been after us for the last month and if he keeps on we will take that rifle of ours and give a perforated hide.
There are more hard up high tone people to the square inch in I'opeka than any other city of its size to the square mile. "Pshaw."
The old soldier law is to be tested in the courts H H. Goodrich thinks he was a "shining star" but Porter Mitchhill has the "yob."
Judge Fagan the good Pro bate judge has left us and his large circle of friends regret their loss.
The men and boys who are in the habit of using guns and revolvers so closely are getting about all the r air here of late.
The colored people are highly in
guessed over the way the politicians
bid by the President, by not having
one of their number to act on the re-
ception committee.
The "colored man" is fast beginning
to understand that it takes more than
month to pay bills and this spring a
bridge of them have left their loaf
resorts and gone to work in ear-
There are some people who know everyone business knows who he or she is and when it comes to the fact they don't know anything of you neither have they the remotest idea who you are. Such people want to be smart on others at lieing.
The good people of this city who have "gone wild" over the whiskey situation should be tamed down as a matter of fact there is no more whiskey nor in Kans. as you know the joints are all closed.
Noone need fear of getting justice in the police court of Judge Hamilton he is the tool of no one and he cannot be influenced to do wrong by some and right by others. He is there as the servant of all the people of Okea and he has no prejuice against a man because his skin is dark.
The State Ledger.
DO RIGHT--KNOW THAT YOU ARE RIGHT;
Street loafers should contine them selves to hard labor now-a-day's as the wave of prosperity has struck all Kansas towns:
There are as usual a goodly number of trifling boys and girls hanging around our streets that should be put to work four or five hours daily.
We see by the tone of some Negro Journals that they have made enough to buy several thousand acres of wild land in the Indian Territory and, as usual Nick Chites is President. That undoubtedly means the project is of short life.
The colored people are of course preparing to go fishing, picknicking and the like. Very soon they will be running to catch some excursion train verily we say unto you the Negro is the happiest man in the world. Did you ever here of him committing suicide(?) No the color d fellow of today is too happy for that kind of an unknown hazardous trip.
A cold blood murder was committed on Monday this week and a young girl called Mahanna. One Elmer Mundin is charged with the crime it seems that shooting is becoming fashionable in Topeka luring young women and forcing them to drink beer is not bad enough it seems but must take her life. The death penalty in this case should be executed.
Dr. McFarland's residence and parsonage is being repaired this week. The Dr, has been here five years already as pastor of the first Methodist church of this city,
Master Glenn Watkins has been laid up for repairs for several day on account of a defective foot. During play time a few years ago he came in contact with "General Barb Wire" and it let its deadly effect on the young American and the poor young man has been a sufferer since. It hoped he will recover.
INDUSTRIAL SCHOOL
The State Industrial school has just closed here and with a very successful school year' Prof. Carter deserves much credit for the term just closed one of the most successful school years in the schools history. Average attendance 80 enrollment 140. Prepare yourselves for the term in Sept. next,

why Go to Kans. City to Loaf?
What do some of our girls go to
Kans, City for, is a question we venture cannot be answered in the affirmative. They are seen arriving on all trans west of Kansas City going to all or both of the Kans. City's but it has puzzled us to know they go to Kans. City so frequently, for and in such "droves" we can see nothing down there that would interest a "baboon" ard, why our girls are flocking to Kans. City is hard to tell. Many of them are serving time in the city Bastule, some in the workhouse while others are drifting about the city to be arrested at anytime yet they go to Kans. City. The mecca of, Topeka's people seemingly who dislike to work at home.
The Negroes of Topeka are making a better progress in life than any other class of their race in the state
Congressman Curtis is here and is looking after his friends personally and preparing himself for the next race when the time comes.
Hon. A. w. Smith of McPherson was elected department Commander this week after a hard fought battle in which many of of his contestant were defeated. Look out for Governor Smith.
We are here to stay is the old saying. If the people pay or if they don't pay: we will run the Ledger on wind.

LEWIS LINCOLN
The subject of this sketch is Mr Lewis Lincoln, who is skilled in plumbing, hot water and heating.Mr Lincoln came here from St, Joseph Mo, where he was doing a good business, having learned his trade in Denver he is what is known as an "up to date" "all around" experienced workman. He has had some very difficult jobs since operating in Topeka Doing satisfactory work for many of Topeka's most prominent families Mr Lincoln employs the most experienced and skillful men and one can rest assured when he answers a call and sends a workman, it will b prop erly executed. He has worked in Buffalo N. Y. Chicago, New Orleans, and many other large cities in the United States. For a sign he has one of the largest wooden faucets in the city over his door at 528 Topeka ave, that you can't fail to find his place.
At Home 313 Kansas Avenue, having purehaed the building 140 feet deep, two stories high, with a good basement in which to handle Dutch cheeses, we are better able to serve along the cheese line in our new quarters. Having no rent to pay, and our manager F. L. Roser being able to do manual labor, our expenses will be very light in the future as in the past. And with our connection with the Rosers in Chicago and Wisconsin, also in Kansas we think we are able to meet all competition as to price and quality of cheese. We aim to handle only the finest full-ream cheese we can get. Our motto is to get in on the ground floor which we are able to do. Anti-Combine.

ROSEDALE NOTES
Many of the people of Rosedale expected to see "Col." Jeltz wearing a "Prince Albert cost" and silk hat when he came here he was very plainly dressed and it took a good deal of explanation to prove he was the editor of this paper. But right will always win out.
OSAWATOMIE NOTES
Mr. Fred Conklin the new city marshal of Osawatomie is meeting with favor all along the line, he is a young man that came up with the town and stands well with all classes. Immediately after taking his office the city council raised his salary from $40 per month to $50 this pleased him and his friends very much hence while he has a good business of his own he is giving most of his time to the city.
Miss H. E. Crane carries a full line of ladies furnishing goods; also a complete line of toilet articles and perfumery. Ossawatomie
Dan Anthony Jr. has got it his head that he will be nominated for congress in this district over Mr Curtis, but by a clear observation that the best workers on all sides declare he is not even a possibility against the 'kansan of the kaw' Mayor of Leavenworth will be the height of Young Anthony's boom and zenith.
