INTER-STATE Journal Kans., and Missouri. By F. L JELTZ. EDITORIAL remember the empty wagon is the one that makes the noise. Many a man has ups and downs but no one can tell. Hew to the line let the chips fall where they may. There is plenty of work in Topeka now—The darkies are in much demand. Take time by the forelock and go ahead and execute business as one should. There is no excuse for the loafers now, work is plentiful if they will only work. Some men get stuck on other men's wives but to no avail only to get horse whipped. A man who will forsake his race is woman at all. But where are the men? The good people of neloit and Law City and Strong City are all kind disposed to help a needy cause. The best people in Topeka are of nature reputed to be the worst to get a ong with. Everything that is for sale or rent a days among property dealers is called beautiful-such nonsense Let every person atteud to his or our own affairs and there will be no double in this world we will assure you. There are some men so rascally themselves till they don't want you know the remotest secret of them and their affairs for fear of disclosure Our readers of Concordia will do to remember our kind friends and especially those who assisted the titor when he was there The grand rascals are not all dead the other day a man did us a city 'turn' but we don't mind that will try, and get there just the me. Winter is just over the fence if it not now. It will pay you to bear is in mind when giving big feasts and parties. There are too many people in this world who think they know it all-- seem to know their neighbors business better than they know their own. The Searchlight office of Wichita was robbed on the 10 inst and all the material belonging to the office was drown into the street and riverlets while the editor was in Colorado. Dr. D. P. Dudley, of Silver Lake was arrested last Saturday charged with assault and battery on the person Mr. Cleveland, the U. P. agent at his place, Dudley gave hundred dollar bond for his appearance at the trial An augry wife the other day smashed joint in the quite little city of timestead up in Mitchel county, and be "good man of the house" only culled and kept on "selling booze." The neat estate men are making quite a good thing out of their "little stock in trade," since the flood they are the most independent people on earth at this hour. A person who will "fake" a news super is a cruel one but lately we have been the victim of all-kind of "fakes." These are trying times. How many can pay their bills with out being used to death? We present to you the people whom you call their friends. There are so many good people in Tobeka since the flood till it is predated that there will be no more floods in Tobeka for a spell. Commissioner Ware seems to have been bitten by a nest of snakes lately in fact they have been going after him with out here of late. The devil is always present, in fact he has become so prevalent until we wisdom give him any attention. Go ahead there will be some more elections very soon. The street vender who has failed to work this glorious summer time is now running for grub. The State Ledger. DO RIGHT--KNOW THAT YOU ARE RIGHT; FEAL NOMAN; BUT RENDER JUSTICE TO ALL. When you don't need a friend you can always have one, but when you need one he can be found. We have just made up our minds that friends are like bees, whom it is said swarm on brigt days. Our advertisers are in this paper they need your trade give them a share of it and mention this paper. The Press Association has closed and "Bro Editors" are back in their good old "sanctums" again. MUST STAND TRIAL Deputy Sheriff Carl Lawson returned from Kansas City Aug. 12th bringing with him Earnest L. Newberry, wanted here for statutory rape The complaining witness is katie Macferran of Oakland. Neworry was arrested once before on the same charge and married the girl to square things Then he skipped, was brought back on a non-support charge, squared things again and then skipped for the third time. A warrant was issued for him on the original charge and he will have to stand trial. He waved his preliminary hearing this morning and was bound over to the district court for trail under a $1,000 bond. Ex. He Deserves Election. Dr. F. G. Snelson, the worthy pastor of St. John A. M.E. church is making extensive preparations to entertain the Annual Conference of the Fifth Episcopal District which convenes in this city next month. Everyone is familiar with the history of Dr. Snelson's short stay in Topeka and the great work he has accomplished financially. His record cannot be surpassed. It should be the pleasure of every African Methodist minister to see Dr. Snelson go as a delegate to the General Conference next year. Every preacher should be willing to give a vote to a man who deserves it. LOCALS. Everybody prepare for St John second Jubilee celebration, Aug. 30-Sept 11th. Officer Riley has made a great impression on the public on account of knowing the duties of an officer. A few days ago several men of disrepute who are in the habit of "butting in" on such affairs as officers generally have to deal with were arrested in K.C. for no other purpose" butting in" hence hangs the case of Kortz, the Union Pacific flagman at the North Topeka depot; The police it is said aided by the entire cify administration will give a grand host dance" an account of Officer Riley's good catch. Kortz displayed an old deputy sheriffs badge that had been in use ever since Noah's flood and tried to scare the daring officer but to no avail, he captured and held his "bums" and also bundled Kortz up from his post of duty and threw him in the "hurry up" and carted him off to the "bull pen," at the station he was booked as any other common bum for interfering with an officer. Judge Hamilton being of that kind and quiet disposition he gave the new convert $10 to repine over, Kortz did not have the price and spent many "happy hours in the jug" among the hoboes, and Mr. Riley has been wearing belt ever since. NEW BAKERY Spheial attention should be given the neatly appointed bakery of Mr. H, Kraushaar's bakery is one of the union bakers that went out on strike when the Topeka bakers refused them higher wages.
