EDITORIAL
They have told you we were noth-
ing but watch our "smoke."
Justice will be a big man after the
next State convention at Wichita.
It ever we hated you smart fellows
oh God it is now.
Don't try to fool us you, can't do
that dirty trick any more.
Enemies we have and plenty of
them What care we for that(?)
It the world is a stage every "stinker"
will have to play his own piece.
No one cares for the humbug, all
cares are given to the "political shys-
ers."
To give Hudson or Capper a j'o after they have fought us, would be too complimentary.
They all fight Leland, Albaugh and Bailey, what is their record let us see our answer is clear, no booiling.
Our purpose is to "lick" the antimachine fellows who think they need jobs. And the only way for them to get their is to go against Bailey for Governor.
Don't tread on us we are certain we going after the scalps of those who are opposing us, we don't care it it cost our a trip to purgatory we are going to have our say first. We don't see why you are larger than we are and if you are we shall see.
Mr. Hoch has said all along he was not a candidate, but Stubbs has said he must "run" hence the poor innocent "dutchman" will be butchered wish warning or mercy.
If the "yellow sheets" of this state think they can abuse the best class of colored citizens and go uninjured by their cowardly attacks, all good and well we shall investigate.
It is amusing to talk about "boss busters" those fellows who want jobs. That's why they have fied on Gov. Bailey because they could not bulldoze him into giving them jobs all they want is power. Not Bailey or Leland has perverted any principle they simply "want in" and we are going to keep them out if possible since they are against currace constantly abusing the better class of them.
There are a class of colored ladies and gentlemen that no cowardly newspaper dare attack their character in any state. But infamous sheets of the capital city of "bleeding Kansas" makes it a duty to attack high class "colored ladies" and gentlemen we will most assuredly have the right to resent it at the ballot box as the counts of this state on y "mads. In doing this we can keep them from their aim and their object which is known to all and that is—power.
Those candididates who have been tutored into believing we "out no ice at all will awake from their lethargy when its to late, No go ahean we are not out for office."
The friends of Pro.C. H Kutz, will remember that he is very ill at his home with malarial fever, hence his candidacy is blocked by the same. His friends should not neglect him in his unfortunate position but rally to his support. As it is generally understood Mr, Kutz will not be last in the race for County Supt: He is also a prominent member of the board of education elected from the fifth ward.
Dr. Henry H. Kieth one of the most prominent physicians of his race in this city is out for county coroner Dr. Kieth has a lar e practice he is a successful physician and has the confidence of this entire community It he is successful no one need tear of his future acts is the past speaks high for him.
Dr. H. E. Cowgill, one of the oldest residents of Burlington came to Kansas in an early day and by his frugality and kind address he is to day one among the most prom rent residents of Burlington. The Dr. has a beautiful residence and a model drugstore in the city also he is a true republican and has always stood up for his friends and his party. Dr. Cowgill is an intimate friend of Capt. C. O. Smith present Postmaster of Burlington.
The State Ledger.
DO RIGHT--KNOW THAT YOU ARE RIGHT; FEAR NOMAN; BUT RENDER JUSTICE TO ALL.
ANNOUNCEMENTS.
Dr. O. A Taylor, announces himself a candidate for the office of County Coroner, subject to the republican primaries.
W. W. Harvey is a candidate for representative to the Legislature from the 39th representative district, subject to the republican primaries to be held Feb. 27, 1904.
Dr H. H. Neith is a candidate for the office of County Coroner, subject to the Republican primaries.
John R. Carter is a candidate for the office of County Superintendent, subject to the decision of the republican primaries when they are held.
J. B. Betts is a candidate for State Senator of the Twenty-fifth Senatorial district subject to the republican primaries.
C. H. Kutz, announces himself a candidate for the office of Public Instruction, subject to the republican primaries.
J. B. Larimer is a candidate for Judge of the district court of Shaw nee county subject to the republican primaries.
A W. Dana announces his candidacy for Judge of the district court subject to the republican primaries.
Robert Stone is a candidate for representative from south district subject to the primaries Feb. 27.
Hon: J: B. betts present member of the Lower House for two terms desires to be promoted to the State Senate. It elected he will add "justre" to his name and fame as he has always done his duty.
REPRESENTATIVE WYKOFF
Of the 34th Legislative District.
W. H. Wykoff, of 34th Legislative district is a candidate for re-election
He is one of the foremost citizens of Coffey County and has an immense property interest. He is also at the head of a large milling business at Burlington of which he is sole proprietor: Mr. Wykoff was quite a familiar character in our last Kansas Lei stature and made a record of which he can but feel proud. When we were in his city we called on him and he served us' right.
There will be only one colored candidate for office, this time in the person of Dr. O. A: Taylor.
AGEN1S.
An Agent in each County in Kansas, Missouri and Oklahoma to demonstrate and supply "Cook's Hair Restorer," the only absolute and harmless remedy for restoring gray hair to its natural color; soid under absolute guarantee; thousands of testimonials. For terms address C. A. Coor, 450 Minn. ave., Kansas City, Kans.
There is one thing certain some one is going to get an awful fall on the 27th of next month.
We guess we are just big a man as Tom McNeal, Author Capper, Joe Hudson, Dell Kelzer and any, of the "would be leaders." If they don't believe it let them monkey with a buzz saw."
W.W. HARVEY
Hon W. W. Harvey who is a candidate for the legislature from the 30th representative district, is a resident of the fifth ward, and has practiced law for the past six years Mr. Harvey is a Kenturkian by birth but has lived in Kansas since 1877 he is liked by every body and promises if elected to this position that he will look well to the interest of Shawnee connny. He is a good fighter and works, is honest, conscientious and can be relied upon to do what he says.
You have lied on us now take our opposition nothng to lose-please.
It is silly as Editor Brady say for a gang of "job hunters" to fool Hoch in snoh a manner.
The declination of Mr, Larimer seems to place Mr, Pana in mighty good fighting shape

VOTERS BEWARE
The public who do the voting this time shall "cep the combs" of all candidates who have had plenty of office holding. The readers and voters of this paper must bear in mind that we have some good timber to be voted for in our coming election who have always been good honest republicans but they never have had any thing at the hands of the people. These people must be looked after in an especial manner and we are strictly opposed to the Court house receiving the judgeship in this fight we know one thing our people is not in favor of such a foolish course and if the loud mouth street politician does his duty that ring will be down forever in this county. To speak the dicates of your couscience is no violation of law get out and lick the fellows who think they are the whole show in this county genough is enough and the writer tired of "czarism." We must vote for men on the 27th of next month who have been good fellows but never had anything at the hands of the party.
Dr. O, A ' Taylor FOR CORONER
The Ledger has mentioned Doctor Taylor in its columns this week for coroner. The Doctor is well qualified for the position, he has practiced here over six years, and we are pleased to state that Dr. Taylor stands at the top of the list among his medical associates of his race. If he is nominated and elected he will perform his official duties in a graceful manner,
JOHN B. SIMS.
Hon. J. B, Sims whose announcement appears in this paper, is among some of Kansas best products. He has been elected two terms to the Legislature and there is no question of his efficiency. He wants to be elected County Commissioner to succeed the deceased member of the board and if he is elected you can depend on his rulings as being just:
J. B. LARIMER FOR JUDGE;
Without question J. B. Larimer of the gigantic firm of Garver & Larimer are among the foremost in the state. Mr Larimer if nominated will be easily elected and will add thus re' to the position he aspires: He has practiced law in this city for many years and is regarded as one among the safest lawyers in the state. He is an un-tiring Republican and has always stood at the top of the list in all cases of common and criminal law.
