SELTZ EDITORIAL Some good men will "lie" too, We own no votes but we vote a great many times, We own no press but we are here to stay so you fellows can "sail in" Some liar told some politician that we amounted to nothing but they shall see. The grand rascal cannot retrain from doing you a rascally trick. The fellows who make it a rule to fight us will get their just deserts. Let justice prevail for Curtis and Mulvane. Don't get worried please all that glitters is not gold. We are going to even up with all of our enemies before we get on the bandagon. These fellows who have fought us can expect nothing more than being "licked." We are going to fight all down the line so you might as well get ready for the fray. We don't care a thing about you if you are against us we are able to take care of ourselves you will find that out. The best people of Kansas are in favor of a reform government If this be true let the wishes of them be cheyed. The people of Kansas have spoken and it seems that they have got Hoch a "going some." What the people needs is a new first class licensed saloon and no chief of police is needed to close the joints or fortire his job. Any candidate who refuses to place his notice in a "Negro paper" or satisfactorily account for the same. This paper shall give him his share of punishment go ahead we don't care but you will. Judge Dana will be next judge to the third judicial district he is a law an able and capable lawyer he has no prejudice you can depend on him to issue out justice. This paper shall advise all its readers to vote for John R. Sims's for county commissioner in this district. He has done more than any other individual towards making shawnee county what it is and his opponent Harrison has done no more than drawn his salary. This paper shall stand by Jno. B. Sims. Another "Negro hater" in Mississippi's new governor. The excerpt is from his inaugural address to the commonwealth of our old state entreat white men and women to hate Negroes as they need no education and will not get it in that damnable state if he can prevent it. These are the government utterances as follows: Jackson, Miss. Jan. 20. Jas. K. Vardam was inaugurated governor yesterday with the usual ceremonies. In his inaugural address, he declared that the growing tendency of the negro to commit criminal assault on white women is merely a manifestation of the racial desire for equality. In strong terms he declared that education is the curse of the negro force, and urged the legislature to enact an amendment to the constitution that with place the distribution of school funds entirely in the hands of the legislature. Governor Vardam referred to the negro as follows: Slavery is the only process by which he has ever been made partial-civilized. God Almighty created the negro for a menial. He is essentially a servant. In every age of the world's history it has been shown that his civilization will last only a long as he is under the control of a superior race. The white man will not and should not share sovereignty and dominion with him. The time has come when the truth should be told about this matter." The governor also declared that the people of this nation should rise up and demand repeal of the fifteenth amendment-Ex. This paper never Went back on a good man like Mr. Dana. Vote for A, W. Is it a purpose why a man can't own a press or has none does this put him down as an imposter because he is poor(?) Because he does not own several thousand dollars in some old grease coy(?) Because we could not print regular we suppose we were at fault(?) Vote for A, W, Danaator judge of the district court not Because he has never held this office but because he is more capable for the place than his opponent. JOHN B,SIMS IS GAINING Hon. J. B: Sims present member of of the house is now before the voters for county commissioner to succeed Frank Harrison who is apprently a stranger to the editor and his people. Mr. Harrison from general observation has about as much use for the color of our skin as the edit it would have for any Negro hating or prejudiced white man. To convince the writer who your friends are we must be shown as as Mr. Harrison is one or those cold blooded of twice berg kind we must see to it that he get to far from home for the next two years. This paper shall support a man whom we all know and one that the colored people can approach that man is John B. Sims whose venerable father Major Sims is a true friend to our race and has had Mr. D. Hope to his office nearly a quarter of a century vote for Sims for county commissioner. Dr. O. A. lay or FOR CORONER The Lalog has mentioned Doctor Taylor in its columns this week for coroner. The Doctor is well qualified for the position, he has practiced here over six years and we are pleased to give that to Taylor stands at the top of the list among his medical associates of his race. If he is mounted and elected he will perform his official duties in a graceful manner. Vote for C. H. During all his career still presided as chairman for he made a suitable one. The writer has often remarked that Capt could straighten any difficulty in politics as chairman quicker than any one. There was a time when the office was not regarded as so important but now to test and show how important one is he is placed on the ticket to be voted for. JOHN . SIMS Hon. J. B.
