The main spring when broken in some men's watch makes all balance "go gallagher." We are under no obligations to this man Stubbs whom the people call great. If he had done the right thing all would have been well Geo F. Burgess, the socialist candidate, says if he is elected to the Legislative that he would not give his friends the cold shoulder if any one will do that or has done that. As people cont live to be fooled all the time they had better cut out' politices and stand by Mr Burgess he is honest, We want it understood that Stubbs is a "d- m humbng." We would not stand for him. He is going to be the cause of Hoch's falling or his defeat. Now watch our words. Stand by the d-m rascals all that goes is all that is good. If you want to stand by us you will do well to stand by us. we are republicans but good democrats are taken along. The fact is that we have always been republican when such a man as Stubbs turns us down makes us a better republicar for Chas. Curtis Dave Mulvane and that class of people. If Stubbs' had not insulted us and other good republicans all might be well. Such men as Dave Mulvane, Capt. Phillips and John Dudley can't afford to do a thing like that. We are here to stay till such fel- lows as Stabbs is gone and forgotten. The height of Stabbs anbition is to play smart and be a big stinker with a few dollars and don't know What todo with them. D. A. Knapp Burlington Kans. has one of the finest offices in Southern Kans. The Doctor came here about four years ago and has built up one of the most lucrative practices in that part of the state. Stubbs has nothing for such a man as iton, Paul Jones one of the greatest colored men of modern times, yet he can send out hundreds of white speakers and pay them well he will say the "noggers" are a little right. Can't see how a man can afford to support Ed. Hoch a long as Stubbs has to dictate to him. Stubbs is one of the cheapest chairman's the people ever had to preside, for the devil with Stubbs, Negroes or intelligence will not join this damnable gang. Mr. J. L. Walker one of the most reliable officers on the force has done good work, everybody likes him and he gets along with everybody. In fact everyone knows Mr. Walker, Chief Stahl and Mayor Burgunotbal has in him an excellent officer. Mr. "Partial Stubbs" will find out there are other things in the newspapers beside his few plates of matter to be published in all. Negro Journals "tree" and published in the white Journals at "par." Mr. Foy Weishaar the very capable young man of Jefferson County nominee for county clerkship, he lives on his fathers immense farm in near Nationville. Young Weishaar is a graduate of Pro Stickler's business college of this city, and has lived in Jefferson county all his life. He will be actively elected in Nov. be use everyone in every township and hamlet the county is going to vote for him. DOWN STUBBS! W. R. Stubbs deserves defeat by reason that he has said that he does not like a Negro, and no Negro unless he lick his feat need apply. The Ledger wants it understood that we will not follow "stubbs lead," and aside from that he has given Dale many thousand votes by reason of his d-arm toolishness. The nominee for the supreme court on the democratic ticket is well known throughout Kansas as a very creditable lawyer. In 1892 he held the position of Attorney General of this state and done good and serviceable work. It was much to Mr. Little's credit that he saw that the text book system was greatly reduced ignored and placed upon a scale wherein a poor man could educate his children as his rich neighbor. While the Ledger speaks for Mr. Little we do not want to be misunderstood but in an independent way the construction of the foregoing statements means men and not measures anything that is at service is our motto, and we believe with Mr. Little's wide acquaintance he is a good man. If elected to the supreme bench we have heard nothing against Mr. Little in his city (Olathe). At present he is mayor of the city and gives a great deal of his time to making Olathe a clean town. He has always conferred useful employment to colored men for the maintenance of their families and their are a chorous of voices against anyone who will say anything against him in his home town. N. W. WELLS Mr. Wells who wants to be Attorney don't of Kans. is a lawyer of Miami county, having lived there for years; He was chairman of the board or pardons under Gov. Leedy and was one of the fairest men on that board. Mr. Wells stands high in the state he has always treated the colored people fairly and white he is on the democratic ticket. He is a good man so far as the situation he sees implies there is no prejudice about Mr. Wells of Mami. BERT GRIFFIN State Senator. Tolings have changed this year and for that reason Jefferson County is asking for the State Senator. In so much the many friends of Mr. Bert Griffin "have" placed him in nomination for the place, Mr. Griffin is a great man and prominent man chant of Nortonville, his home. I elected which he will be he will represent Jefferson county on an up to date system of affairs. H. C. LINDSAY For State Senator from this district. Few men are better known here than "Hank Lindsay who has lived here ever since Topke was 'net in in it." He is the nominee for State Senator on the democratic ticket. That in fact is not poison on account of Hank Lindsays kindness an fidelity to the Negroes of this city if all go well Mr Lindsay will cut considerable ice for State Senator. R.S. VANSANT. Secretary County, Central Com. One of the prominent young men of Shawnee County, is "Reese Vansant raised here and has for many years been identified with the republican party. He is a son in law of Scott Kelsey of Oaklind ex county commissioner. He should be remembered, In 1900, when Theodore Roosevelt was Governor of New York, he was interviewed about the afro-American soldier and this is what he said: "I know of the character and bravery of the Afro-American soldier. He saved my life at Santiago" and I have had occasion to say so in many articles and speeches. The Rough Riders were in a bad position when the ninth and tenth calvary came rushing up the hill carrying everything before them. "The Afro-American soldier has the faculty of coming to the front when he is needed most. In the civil war he came 200,000 strong, and I believe he saved the union. He has done excellent work in all of the Indian campaigns, and while I was in the West, I had a number of opportunities of witnessing his wonderful work. He saved a massacre of the Seventh in 1890." At San Juan hill the Afro-American soldiers rendered an object lesson to all of the soldiers assembled there, they sung and fought and pushed the laggard troopers up the hill and the great victory at that point was theirs as if not more than any of the soldiers there.
