Douglas, Ga., Nov. 18.—Three human beings, one of them a woman, all of them helpless prisoners in charge of Sheriff Tanner of Irvin county, were lynched seven miles from town today by a mob numbering several hundred white men, women and children. The lynched victims were William Perry, Will Ivory and his wife, who had been arrested in connection with the killing yesterday of Pearly Harper, a young white planter. The trio were being rushed to Fitzgerald, the county seat, for "sure keeping," when the mob overtook them and lining them up, riddled their bodies with bullets. Although this heinous crime was committed in broad daylight and none of the mob were masked, the coroner's jury has already rendered a verdict common in such cases that the victims had "died at the hands of persons unknown." No arrests have been made. STATE TEACHERS TO MEET HERE NEXT WEEK Three Days Will Be Given Over to Educators The State Teachers' Association will convene in Tulsa next Thursday morning for a three days' meeting, ending Saturday. The stage is all set for one of the best sessions in the history of the organization and a large attendance is expected. It is thought that some effort will be started during this meeting to obtain substantial increases in teachers' salaries and to establish better educational advantages for the separate schools of the state. A committee will probably be appointed to visit the legislature in January with this purpose in view. President Pettus has been very active during the past year trying to better conditions for colored teachers and pupils of the state and in all probability he will insist on appointing a working committee to further the movement he has already started. Aside from this part of the program the election of officers will probably be the all absorbing interest. Following is the official program of the session: HILL WELL RECEIVED IN BAR TLESVILLE Methodis Preacher Lands Bible Student Lecturer to His Congregation Bartlesville, Okla., Nov. 18.—What is considered by those who heard it, the most able and enlightening lecture they had ever heard on the facts of the Bible was delivered here Sunday afternoon by the Hon. Richard J. Hill, a noted International Bible Student of Tulsa. In the audience were some of the most intelligent people of this city, several of whom were ministers of the gospel. Mr. Hill proved himself a master student of the Bible and one of the most forceful, convincing speakers ever heard in this city. After the lecture Mr. Hill visited the Methodist church here, of which Rev. G. W. Washington is pastor. The pastor who had heard the lecture told his congregation that it was one of the most interesting he had ever heard and encouraged them to hear Mr. Hill if the opportunity ever presented itself. So much impressed with Mr. Hill's interpretation of the Bible were the people of this city that they begged him for another date, offering him the use of the Methodist church any Sunday he would suggest. Word has been received from Mr. Hill that he will return to Bartlesville Sunday, November 27, to deliver another lecture on the Bible. The people of Bartlesville are pleased with this news and a large audience will greet him on that date. Mr. Hill, in speaking of his visit to Bartlesville last Sunday, said to a representative of the Star: "I was well pleased with my visit to Bartlesville. The cordial reception given me there by the ministers of that city, as well as others, was indeed gratifying." Hill Makes Reply PUBLIC NOTICE Any one who knows of a preacher who is still teaching that the wicked, after death is punished in a hell of fire and brimstone or tormented throughout eternity, please take such preacher's name and address and send it to me and I will take the matter up with him and see to it that he defends his position before the public and my face. And if he does not I will expose him as a man who is teaching falschood for selfish purposes and yet is afraid to defend his position before the public. With but few exceptions most preachers have learned sense enough to quit teaching the doctrine of Eternal Torment, and those few who are still doing so should he made to defend their false position or shut up. If you will do as I have asked you the time will soon be when the teachers of false doctrine will be no more. Telephone, Cedar 1505, Tulsa, Okla. There is one H. T. S. Johnson of Tulsa, Okla, who seems to yet be hanging to the blasphemous doctrine of Eternal Torment; but he contradicts himself in so many ways that it is hard to tell what he believes. I rather think that if a proper test was made it would develop that he does not believe in the Bible at all but rather he is killed to the popping point with the creeds and theories of men. Because it is inconceivable that a man of his supposed wisdom would so flatly contradict the plain statements of the Bible and all standard authorities concerning the punishment of sinners. Worst of all he has the nerve to expose his ignorance by citing the following Scriptures to prove that sinners are eternally tormented after death: Matt. 8:12, 10:28, 12:32, 16:27-28, 18:9, 23:33, 25:46; John 5:28-39; Acts 24:15, 2nd Cor. 5:10; 2nd Thess. 1:6-10; 2nd Peter 3:7. Then he states that these are only a few of the many Scriptures which prove that there is a hell, a place of eternal punishment. As a matter of fact most of the Scriptures above cited are highly symbolic and do not have a literal meaning. A brief explanation of each Scripture follows: Refers to the trouble that came upon the Jews (not Gentiles) at the close of the Jewish age, A. D. 73; because of their failure as a nation to accept Christ as their Savior Matt. 10:28—Hell in this verse means the second death; a death from which there is no resurrection. The Lord's meaning is that we Christians should be careful and fear God. He has the power to destroy our chance of being resurrected during the Millenium or Judgment day. Church Denominations; the earth Matt. 12:32—The word Holy Ghost or Holy Spirit means righteous knowledge concerning God's plan of salvation. Whoever sins against God with a full knowledge of what he is doing cannot expect to escape punishment for so doing during this Gospel age or (world) or during the Millenial Age (world to come). Matt. 16:27-28—This Scripture has no reference whatever to eternal torment but means that when the Lord shall fully come to set up His Kingdom here on earth he will reward the righteous with everlasting life and the wicked with stripes and punishment to make them better. This punishment will be just the same as a sensible father who punishes his disobedient children to make them better. Matt. 18:9 This whole verse is symbolic and the thing said is not the thing meant. Heaven would be an awful looking place if this Scripture meant exactly what it says literally. Heaven would be filled with one-eyed and one-legged people. This verse really means that we are to put aside habits that are as dear to us as an eye or a foot rather that keep these habits and go into the second death. Christ asked them how could they expect to escape the second death when they with all their knowledge were more degraded in character than the common people. Matt. 25:46— This verse has reference to rewards and punishments to take place about one thousand years from now or about the year 2920 A. D., at which time the righteous of mankind will be awarded life everlasting and the wicked will receive a punishment that will last throughout eternity-everlasting. They will die and never be resurrected again, because Christ will die no more. John 5:28-29— This Scripture refers to the work to be done during the Millennium or Judgment day; at the beginning of which the righteous will be resurrected to receive stripes and punishments for the purpose of their developing a character worthy of everlasting life. The word Dannation in the King James version is rendered judgment in the original Greek. Therefore the meaning is that the wicked will be resurrected by judgments, stripes, etc. Acts. 24:15— This Scripture has no reference to a hell of punishment after death, but on the other hand it conclusively proves the very thing the International Bible Students are teaching the people from time to time—that both the good and the bad are to be resurrected from the dead. 20 Cor. 5:10— This is another Scripture that has no reference to punishment after death. But refers to the way a true Christian should live daily, while this side the grave. A true Christian must come, before the judgment seat of Christ daily in his true character and not hypocritically—pretending to be one thing while in fact he is something else. God will reward our failures the same as our successes if we love God in righteousness and are what we are. 2nd Thes. 1:6-10— Fire in the Bible is a symbol of destructive trouble. Flameing fire refers to great trouble. This Scripture refers to the time in which we are now living, when all individuals or institutions that will not hear the truth concerning the plans of Salvation will be destroyed from their false ideas. All persons or church systems not in line with the truth will not be permitted to continue in the presence of Christ during the Millennium or Judgment day. This is another Scripture which has no reference to eternal torture of the wicked after death. The word Heaven mentioned in this verse means the 2nd Peter 3:7—means the organized governments of the world. The thought intended to be conveyed is that the earthly governments, church systems, and the men who are at the head of them must all pass away in the great time of trouble. All true Christians are rather modest and very reluctant to even mention anything about their worldly education. They will, however, recognize the truth wherever they see it and it matters not where it is found whether in the denominations or out of them. They will also speak against error wherever found. Pastor Russell was of that character and disposition. Rev. Johnson tried to make capital out of the fact that Pastor Russell recognized "Young's Analytical Hebrew," Chaldaic, Greek and English, Lexicon, Concordance, gotten out by the Presbyterians, Englishmen's Hebrew, Chaldaic, Greek and English Concordance, Liddel and Scott Lexicon, also Strong's Analytical Concordance and Lexicon gotten out by the Methodists, as standard authority in Hebrew and Greek. This is one of the worst blunders that Rev. Johnson could have made because it shows him up to be absolutely opposed to the truth. When a man will disrecognize the truth in his own books in order to carry a false point it is hard to say what he will do to maintain his false position. Strong's Concordance of the Bible is a standard work recognized by all Bible students of all denominations, not that it is the only standard work, but it is one that is highly recommended. This work was gotten out by James Strong, a scholarly and honest hearted Methodist. If he was living today he would be teaching the same truth concerning the punishmetn of sinners that Pastor Russel and all other International Bible Students are teaching. In this exhaustive work there is not one word or phrase that can be rightly construed to mean that there is an eternity of torture after death for sinners. Rev. Johnson has this work or should have it and he fully knows that in the book that he has complimented highly and none too high, that it does not sustain him in his false position on the doctrine of eternal torment. And to prove that he knows his position is false he will not go before the public and my face and debate the subject of eternal torment for wilful sinners. I will use his book "Strong's Concordance" and show to the public that he is not teaching what the honest hearted Methodist, like James Strong, taught. I therefore challenge him, by the Grace of God, to come before the public and my face and fully defend his position. I desire that he step forward at an early date that we may have the pleasure of settling this matter. I am not speaking in the spirit of anger or malice or in the spirit of the world, but I am speaking in the sense of an honest and fearless defender of the good name of Jehovah God and the common people who desire to know the truth. My honest opinion is that the rumblings of my friend, Rev. H. T. S. Johnson, is only an evidence of the death-bed struggle against public opinion. Rey. Johnson has more than once stated that I only copy Pastor Russell, which may be true in some respects, because Pastor Russell copied the Bible. Here goes one under the belt for the Reverend; and I want him to tell the public at an early date how Pastor Russell got the following statement in the Bible thousands of years before he was born. Pastor Russell says "That when a man dies he is unconscious, has no memory, cannot speak, cannot breathe, cannot think, cannot give thanks, can do no work, neither loves, hates, or envies; has no feelings, and knows not anything. And he cites the following Scriptures to prove the above statement: Eccl. 9:5, 6, 10; Psalms 6:5, (115:17, 104:29, 146:4. According to what God says in His own word and repeated by Pastor Russell and his followers, there is nothing left of a man to be burned or tormented after he is dead. Now Brother Johnson, the public is sitting with bated breath to hear from you. Of the twenty-eight million acres of farming area which compose one-fourth of the state's total acres only 458,000 acres, or 1.6 per cent, and under cultivation by Japanese. But this is not all. If Japan's appeal to American's sense on international morality failed, the speaker continued, only force, remained. Matjasic a pawnbroker is only a matter of hours. The owner of the raincoat is known the sheriff force declarts. He is a white man and his arresti they said will result in a sensation. Although Ed Dailey Colored is still said tonight that he had been elimiheld in the county jail, officers nated from their reckoning. Reports that clothing found in his home was spotted with blood were denied. The raincoat, although comparatively new, had been rent and torn. It was "literally soaked in blood" the officers declared. Matjasic was found murdered in his store late in the morning of Sunday, November 14. His throat had been cut, his head split open and his skull crushed and there were 21 knife wounds in his body. Diamonds said to b worth more than $5,000 which Matjasic was accustomed to wearing, were missing. Grace, Colored was given the death penalty for an alleged criminal assault upon a white woman in Bexar county was reversed by the court of criminal appeals today upon the grounds that clothes which were stained with blood that had flown from a cut inflicted upon the woman's hand with knife held by her assailant were not admissible as evidence as they illustrated no fact and tended to inflame the mind of the jury. Colored Lad Foils Bold Highwaymen Atlanta, Ga.—When two masked bandits entered the Parker-Branan drug store at Peach Tree street and North avenue last night and "stood up" 15 customers and several clerks at the point of revolvers, a negro boy crawled on the floor to the safe, slammed the door shut and twirled the combination. He jumped up when a shot from one of the robbers went through the floor at his feet. A large sum of money was said to have been in the safe. The largest number of Race candidates since the disfranchisement law went into effect, were on tickets in various parts of the country. The activity of the citizens is an unmissable sign of their determination to get somewhere in American political life. The two candidates for seats in the United States Senate, Hon. W. Ashbie B Hawkins in Maryland and Hon. J. B. Pollard in Virginia, were defeated. Hawkins received 7,000 votes raising the regular Republican candidate to fall far behind the national heads of the Republican ticket who got a substantial majority at the hands of the voters. This is the second time in the history of the state that the Republican party has come out ahead in a national election. Five out of six candidates for Congress were successful. Candidate Hawkins' run for the Senate was the outcome of a protest by many prominent Colloqed Republicans 'against what they' deemed shabby treatment of the regular organization in the state of which O. F. Weller, who was elected, is the titular head and "boos." Pollard's vote in Virginig was a negligible quantity but it is believed to have served the purpose of creating a nucleus for a strong organization of Colored Republicans in the state. Virginia furnished a candidate for Congress, H. H. Price in the Richmond district, who was defeated, and in the 12th Missouri district, Robert Owens, the candidate of the Farmer-Labor party fell before the large vote given to Congressman Dyer although the Negdo vote of the district outnumbers the white vote regardless of party affiliations. The one Colored candidate for Govednod, J. H. Blount of Arkansas, was burted beneath the usual large vote for the Democratic nominee. Three Colored candidates for the legislature were elected in Illinois. Adelbert H. Roberts and Warren B. Douglas, who succeeded themselves in the 3d district and S. B. Turner who was standing for re-election. In Ohio Henry Higgins was elected a member of the legislature from the Cincinnati district, but William B. Gdeen was defeated for the State Senate in the Cleveland district as were Harry E. Davis and Samuel F. Woods who were candidates for seats in the lower branch of the legislature. The Rev. George L. Davis and Attorney Hughes were unsuccessful candidates for the lower house in the city of Columbus. Deleware takes a new place on the political map by electing to the lower branch of the State legislature Dr W. Henri Pikes from one of the Wilmington districts. Missouri sends a Negro to its lower house, Walthal M. Moore of St. Louis while Langston Harris of the same city lost, J. C. Asbury and Andrew F. Stevens are successful Philadelphia candidates for seats in the Pennsylvania lower house. In New York, was re-elected but Miss. Grace Campbell, a candidate on the socialist ticket went down to lefcat. However in tre Orange district of New Jersey, Dr. Walter G. Alexander came through with flying colors. The following statement has been received from Robert N. Owens, who was candidate for Congress in St. Louis: "My vote is estimated at 3,000. I made a good showing considering the strength of the opposition. The last two weeks of the campaign, the Republican National Committee flooded the district with a veritable army of speakers in the interest of Congressman Dyer. Among them were Henry Lincoln Johnson, Chas, Cottrill, Miss Hallie Q. Brown, Mrs. Lethis Fleming of Cleveland, Mrs. Victoria Clay Haley, and many others from all sections of the country. In addition to the Negro job holders of the city Hall Machine, there were more than an average of five paid workers in each of the 99 precincts of the district, who were making a house to house canvass for Dyer. About four days before election Mr. Dyer stated that he had discovered that the 8,550 Negro majority which the Election Commissioners had given out was a mistake, that the Negro vote was only (A. N. P. Service) 18,000 and that of tre white was 37,000 and that I could not possibly that a vote for me was only in favor of the Democratic nominee, this propaganda was assidiously spied by all of his pail cohordts. We did not spend one penny for a speaker or worker during the entire campaign, consequently it was a difficult task ao overcome their propaganda. It is estimated that at least $15,000 was spent to carry the district. Our toal expense will not exceed $250,000. "Considering the fact of the illiteracy of the Negro, many of whom were just from the South, voting for the first time, the sacredness of the Republican Ticket in the estimation of the average mind of the Colored man and the organization of the opposition, the vote I received represented 3,000 men and women who could not be intimidated and whose loyalty to their race was above price." The following telegraphic statement for the Philadelphia American has been sent the Associated Negro Press: "The Republican victory has placed large responsibilities upon the Republican Party, not the least of which is the responsibility to the Colored voters of the party who have suffered more than any other race group by the troublesome blight of Wilsonism. "Negro voters supported the Republican party because they believe that the party of Lincoln and Grant will right the wrongs committed in the name of democracy, and in order to retain confidence of the Colored people, in and out of politics, the Republican party must do something in a political way the effects of which will be felt in every town and hamlet throughout the nation. "Colored people in eastern Pennsylvania are not surprised at the results. The Harding color canard meant nothing in Pennsylvania. It was never brought into the campaign seriously. Senator Penrose, who was re-elected, controls the republican organization. He has never done anything conspicuous for the race. Colored people are not looking to Senator Penrose for any political favors. He has been notoriously conspicuous in blocking the reduction of southern representation in Congress. It is not believed that the overwhelming victory will cause the senator to have a change of heart." "J. C. Ashury and Andrew F. Stevens have been elected to the legislature by large majorities. 'Colored voters throughout the nation believe that Congress should make lynching a Federal crime, and that something should be done immediately to suppress the Ku Khux Klan organization. The Race should participate fairly in the distribution of patronage and should be recognized as a potent factor in the party." "That a large number of Colored people are not satisfied with the party as organized is evidenced by the conditions which developed in Maryland, Virginia, Texas, Arkansas, Missouri, West Virginia and elsewhere. There is a desire to clean house, and reorganize the race, as it were How far this movement will develop depends on what practical benefit the race can secure by remaining a Republican. In a statement for the Associate Negro Press, Attorney W. Ashbie Hawkins of Baltimore, Md, who was an independent Republican candidate for the United States Senator, had the following to say: "The election of its candidates for President and Vice President, and a majority in both branches of Congress, by the Republican party marks a notable event in American History. Leaving out of consideration the South, where a large party of the electorate is disfranchised the verdict of the American people is practically unanimous. The Republican party from the Fourth of March, 1921 will be in ab solute control of the executive and legislative branches of the government, with such majorities in the Senate and House of Representatives as will no longer permit of any reasonable escape from its duty to our Race group, on any pretext whatever. Remaps, however, and I hope I am wrong in this, the tremendous vote, entirely unprecedented, with which the nation has returned it to power may lead it to overlook the claims of our weak race. Our movement didn't succeed but a foundation has been laid for the election of a Negro to Congress from one district, and the election of a number of members to the Stae legislature from sections of the state where our numerical strength warrants it. The movement discloses that there are more than 7,000 independent Colored people in the state who have thrown off the shackles of political seridom. The Kansas City Sun advises that "gangs of hoodlums" in motor cars rode furiously through the streets of the Eighth, Ninth and Eleventh Wards firing pistols and intimidating Colored women and men voters. A bullet fired by these gangs lodged in the left shoulder of W. M. Greene. The Eighth ward hoodlum automobile riders made it their special mission to assail any man seen wearing a Republican badge. Two young men wearing Harding badges were assaulted after they had refused a challenge from the "hoodlums" to remove the Harding buttons. With Oklahoma and Tennessee going into the Republican column, opinion is divided as to the fortunes of the Race. It was in Oklahoma that President-elect Harding made one of his famous references to the Negro citizens of the country, after question had been put to him by the Oklahoma daily newspapers, Senator Harling replied that he would not "be fit to be President" if he did not tell the people of the South as he tells the people of the North," there must be equality before the law." While there are many of the opinion that southern Republicanism is merely Democracy in disguise, there are others who feel that there is awakening of the better element among the whites who desire to give the Colored man fair play. The vote of the women has played an all important part in the results of the election and it is plain to be seen that henceforth this element must be reckoned with at all stages of the game. The women are more determined than many imagined they would be, and they have the organization instinct that means so much in political success. This review of the recent election by The Associated Negro Press gives in practical detail the results and feelings of the people with reference to political matters. It may be said definitely that the voters are thinking for themselves. They are defying tradition, and voting for themselves. They are defying tradition, and voting on principle, as they see it. There is no question but what the voters all feel that the most important issues are lynching, disfranchisement and "Jim Crow" cars next to these, education, immigration and industrial opportunity. The unrest among the voters is due to the fact that these subjects have been neglected both by Democrats and the Republicans, although it is known and admitted, that all has been done has been by and through the Republican arty. Republican organization leaders throughout the country will argue that the Race is united as never before and even though true, the leaders must demonstrate their ability to "deliver results" after the election, for there is no question but that the voters expect to hold all who assume leadership to a strict accountability. Contrary to the usual custom, sitting at ease after election, the news papers, which are real by twenty times as many people as four years ago, are talking not only of inauguration in Washington March 4th, but are also talking about the elections two years, four years and some as much as eight years hence. One editor has written The Associated Press as follows: "My people have placed the responsibility of front line leadership on our newspapers, and we have assumed the duties with solemn earnestness. Products of long sacrifice, in the days of prosperity, our publishers will not fail the people, nor will we place job-seeking and self promotion above racial welfare. We know no North, South, East or West, but we do know results, and that is what we demand. In previous years the people have been cajoled and fooled into following leadership; now they have repudiated it everywhere, and the newspapers must not only point the way but lead on to victory. BACK SEAT FOR PLUM HUNTERS Questions of Race Interest Must Be Settled First, The nPolitical Recognition CHICAGO, Nov. 19—There are to be the most important developments in the history of the Colored Race in America. These developments will take place within the next four years. Some of the developments are in progress now, others will follow in rapid succession. The Colored people of the country, without losing sight of anything that they desire in the way of manhood rights dropped for the time concentration of efforts in various fields, and devoted their energies to the national election. In common with the great mass of Americans, a change of administration was regarded as a matter of first importance in the general scheme of adjustment. This over, and a Republican administration soon to be in power for the first time in ten years from all sections of the country there is a state of earnest expectancy, a looking for "General Orders Number Two," as it were. What are we to do next? That is the question uppermost in the minds of the masses. It will be seen that this question is somewhat different from the question heretofore asked. In days long gone by, following a Presidential victory, the people, the masses lost interest and the fate of the Race was left to a few political job seekers who, finally getting the plums, indeet most significant in comparison with the political importance of the Race, the office holders would rest their oars, function as orators, society leaders and political go-betweens. This state of affairs is no going to be submitted to, and an enslaughter of public contempt will relegate them to private life and forgetfulness, while others more valiant take their place. "Can't Fool The People The Associated Negro Press, by careful indiscriminate investigation has learned some of the things that are uppermost in the minds of the people. Haying developed the general habit of reading, the people have become students of conditions and they have opinions that they are free to express. This is not the case in the large cities, not by any means. The people of the towns, villages and those of the country side, the people in the one room cabin of the South, as well as those in the ten room luxurious flats and residences of the big centers of living—all of them are thinkers of living—all of them are thinking and expecting the things to be done not merely talked about. Here are some of the things being talked about from one enl of the country to the other. They require immediate organized attention; unselfish and well financed by all who believe in human justice. 1. Lynching. The Republican platform as adopted by the Chicago convention in June, carries a plank on the subject of lynching. The Republican Congress will be required to legislate on this subject. Under this head comes all forms of mob violence, the bombing of property and other forms of violence. 2. Disfranchisement.—It is agreed that the time has come for some definite and drastic action with reference to disfranchisement. In the southern states represetation in Congress and the electoral college have been based on the total population yet open defiance of the United States Constitution and election subterfuges have been resorted to for years, without much more than a protest, and yet this country went into the World War to make "democracy safe" and the Colored Americans furnishel nearly 400,000 able bodied men and millions in money. 3. Jim Crow Cars—In the matter of southern transportation something must be done immediately There are those who contend that discrimination in public places must be wiped out. It is well known that a determined effort to enforce such a policy in the South would cause an upheaval that would bring bitter defiance. There is a growing sentiment among whites against the present apparently indiscriminate immigration that has reached a total of more than 25,000 a week. These people are seeking to take places in the North now occupied by our group, thousands of whom have come North within the last four years. In the South, certain communities have begun to make inquiry with the idea of satisfying the labor shortage with foreigners. 5—"White Man's Country"—The Japanese problem in the West, and the influx of Colored people into Northern communities have given rise to the old cry of "This is a white man's country." This is regarded as un-American, and against the principles and traditions of the republic, which was founded upon the principle that "All men are created equal and endowed by their Creator with certain inalienable rights among these are life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness." 6.—Industry Industrial organizations, and labor unions have been gradually throwinb the doors of op opportunity open to Colored men and women. Their efficiency has been tested and praised. However, it is the task of the Race to exercise every means to maintain a standard of excellence that will maintain the principles of merit alone, without regard to Race, in providing means of employment. 7. Commerce The Colored people of the entre country have a quick ened appreciation of the value of commercial activity. At every turn corporations of all descriptions are being formed for the purpose of securing and maintaining an economic foothold that has heretofore been neglected, if not denied. The people now have more money per capita than ever before, and are enthusiastic about ventures and safeguards against frauds must be maintained. 8. Education The unprecedented thirst for knowledge in all sections of the country must be encouraged and wisely provided for. 9. Morality and Welfare—Sharp and that much larger unheralded tions must be drawn between the small criminal class among the Race and that much larger onheralded class of industrious, hard-working group that conscientiously and earnestly seeks to fit properly into the best ideals of American life. Gen. 11:4) At that time the people spoke one language. They built the tower and the Lord said, "Benold the people is one and they have all one language; and this they began to do and now nothing will restrain from them, which they have imagined to do, go to, let us go down, and there fore confound their language, that they may not understand one another's speech. So the Lori scattered them abroad from thence upon the face of all the earth; and they left off to build the city. Therefore is the name of it called Babel; because the Lord did there confound the language of all the earth—(Gen. 11:6, 9). From the word Babel is derived the word Babylon. Originally Babylon meant to the people the gate-way to God. Subsequently it became a term meaning confusion. Later the country of Babylon under the Monarch Nebuchadnezzar, became a mighty empire. The capitol of the nation was named the city of Babylon. It was the most magnificent city of the ancient world, situated upon either side of the river Euphrates, enclosed within a vast system of double walls from thirty to eighty five feet thick and from seventy five to three hundred feet high. Built upon these walls were low towers, facing each other, and in these walls were a hundred brazen gates, the gates iorresponding to each street. The city was surrounded by a deep moat filled with water, which served as additional protection against attack. Inside the walls were splendid palaces. The city was not only noted for its wealth, but also for its moral degradation. It was given over to idolatry and iniquity. It was called "The Golden City, the Glory of the Kingdoms and the Beauty of the Chaldees." After the long and successful reign of Nebuchadnezzar, his son, Belshazzar, succeeded him, who was a profane and wicked ruler. Belshazzar and his princesses and associates, together with prostitute women, were holding a feast in the city. While the Babylonians were drunk and oblivious to their impending danger, Cyrus had dug a ditch, turning the Euphrates out of its course and then led the Persian Army under the gates on the dry bed of the Euphrates and sacked the city completely destroying it. The whole matter is recorded in Holy Writ for the purpose of teaching a lesson to those who should live at the close of the Gospel Age, where we now are. The Prophet, Isaiah, Jeremiah, Daniel, and the Book of Revelations speak of Babylon, her degradation, her fall and destruction. The prophecies having been written after fall of literal Babylon manifestly refers to the antithesis. In symbolic language a city represents an Ecclesiastic Government backed by civil power and influence. To Christian people the organization of the Church System on earth originally meant the Gateway to God. Some years after Christ, the ruler of Pagan Rome embraced Christianity, evidently for political purposes. Ambitions and selfish men had succeeded to gain leadership in the church. The Church was legalized and became a system operated by Clergy and wealthy men, politicians for selfish purposes. In the Scripture the true Church is represented by a Pure Virgin, while the Apostate Church is pictured by an unchaste woman. The Revelation of Jesus Christ given to St. John clearly locates the antypical Babylon; "And the woman was arrayed in purple and scarlet color, and decked with gold and precious stones and pearls having a golden cup in her hand, full of the abominations and filthiness of her fortifications; and upon her head was a ame written MYSTERY, BABYLON THE GREAT, THE MOTHER OF HARLOTS, AND ABOMINATIONS OF THE EARTH. And I saw the woman drunken with the blood of the Saints, and with the blood of Martyrs of Jesus; and when I saw her, I wondered with great admiration" (Rev. 17: 4, 6.) In the 15th Century A. D., came the Reformation, which made strides towards the truth and righteousness, but soon the Adver- sary entered and organized a selfish system, and these Protestant Systems have become the off-spring of the Mother Hariol as the Mother of Harlots definitely lead to the conclusion that there are off-springs or daughters. in modern times there has been a great falling away from the truth. The preachers have forsaken the Hansomed Sacrifice in a large degree and now in more recent months, comes the organization of the Inter-Csarch World Movement, which issues a manifest stating, "We have agreed to disregard the Doctranes and join in together in action," meaning thebye that they have forsaken the great trith tenth by Jesus and the Apostles, and have united together for membership and money, in other words, they have united with professional politicians, the rich and the Mother Hariol for" the very purpose of keeping the common poor people in ignorance and subjection. As it was in the type, the people who originally built the tower of Babel, regarded it as a gate-way to God, and later, when their language became confused and all spoke a different language, it bore the significance of confusion; even so it is today with the Great Church Systems. For instance, the Inter-Church World Movement, started out with great flare of trumpets and the Proclamation that they would shortly raise $336,777,526.5 with which to convert the world. They failed in getting this money although big businesses and politicians were behind them in the outset. The people are becoming more wise to the dishonest and insincere schemes and are turning away from the Inter-Church World Movement and all of the Systems of Babylon. Truly the Lord has written concerning her, "Thou are weighed in the balance and are found wanting."—Daniel 5:27. The Unrighteous Systems — Babylon, both Catholic and Protestants— are the off-springs of Satan, organized by him to carry out his schemes of deceiving and keeping in subjection the common people. The Apostle Paul referring to the same thing, and applying his words at the end of the world, where we now are, said, "Then shall that wicked one be revealed, whom the --- Lord shall consume with the spirit of his mouth and shall destroy with the brightness of his presence" (2d Thes. 2:8) The more information the people have concerning the falsity of these Church Systems the sooner will they turn away from them and seen information concerning the Lord's word. God fore-know and fore-told the doom and destruction of these unrighteous systems, saying "The doom of Bal bylon which Isaiah saw—Lift ye up a standard upon the high mountain (Kingdom), Bais; high your voice unto them, motion with the hands that they may enter into the gates of the princes." "I have commanded my sanctified I have also called my mighty ones for my anger; even them that rejoice in my highness They come from a far country; from the end of heaven, even the Lord and the weapons of jis indignation, to destroy the whole land. There is a noise of tumult upon the mountains like as of a great people; then a tumultious noise of the nations gathered together; the Lord of Host mustered the host of battle. Wail ye, for the day of Jehovah's at hand it shall come as a destruction from the Almighty, therefore all hands shall become weak and every mortal's heart shall meit and they shall have throes; as a woman that travaileth; they shall wonder every man as his neighbor, red like flames shall their faces glow. At this time the Church Systems, Catholics and Protestants, claim to be exceedingly rich and powerful, and are utterly indifferent to the teachings of Jesus and the Apostles, and have entirely forgotten the humility of these faithful servants of the Lord. But in God's sight they are exactly the object. Of them, the Lord says; "thou sayeth I am rich and increased with goods, and have need of nothing, and knoweth not that thou are wretched and miserable, and poor, and blind, and naked."-Rey, 2:7. Such being the solemn declaration against these unrighteous Systems, Catholics and Protestants those who have this knowledge should heed the warning from the Lord and flee out of her. "Thus saith the Lord, flee out the midst of Babylon and deliver every man his soul; be not cut off in her iniquity; for this the time of the Lord's vengeance he will render onto her a recompense. Forsake her; for her consume with the spirit and shall destroy with us of his presence." For the past two years the Babylonian's system in Germany, Austria-Hungary, Great Britian, Russia, Canada and the United States have been persecuting Christian people, who have refused to worship at her shrine and who have asked only to be permitted to teach the word as taught by Jesus and the Apostles and follow in the Master's footsteps. These persecutors have hailed Christians into the courts and railroaded some of them to prison without even giving them a trial. Particularly was this true in Germany and Austria, and in Canada where Christians were summarily dealt with and incarcerated without them an opportunity to be heard. In parts of the United States, officers, acting under the suggestion of the preachers, framed up evidence and caused the conviction and imprisonment of innocent men and women. These matters were brought to the attention of the rulers of the Land. The Lord had fore-told it should be thus saying: "They shall deliver (some of) you up to councils (courts)' and in the synagogues (church system) ye shall be beaten, and ye shall be brought before rulers and Kings for my name's sake for a testimony against them—Marn 13:9. It will be noted that the Lord gave utterance o these words in answer to the question as to what would be the proof of the end of the world. He said that shall be a world war, and famines and pestilences, earth quakes (Revolutions) in various places, and then should come these persecutions by the Babylonish systems. We are now in that time; the doom of Babylon is sealed, her fall is impending and near at hand. When the Church systems are dashed to pieces by the sledge hammers of truth and the people are liberated from her bondages and the greater light of the truth which is now due shine in upon them and they fully realize that the old order of things are passing away because he world has ended, then they will realize that the times of blessings are here, and millions now living and walking about upon earth will never die and go into the grave because Christ's Kingdom will soon be inaugurated, offering life, liberty and happiness to all who renier themselves obedient to the terms of this Governedment which is now in process of establishment. Then in the spirit of “All tor one and one for all,” let us establish unity within the Race, and the social, industrial and political obstacles which we have suffered in the past will crumble before a determined, enlightened, united advance ment of the Race.
