THE DALLAS EXPRESS
FILM SERIES

Writing in his column "The Week" Colonel Roscoe Simmons asks Texas and Texans a question that is far from being unimportant. He seems to be wondering what Texans are going to do in the coming months about the political situation. Says Col. Simmons:
MEMBER
NATIONAL NEGRO PRESS
ASSOCIATION.
"Some questions, only two or three, to Texas Colored men. You may address yourselves to William McDonald, James B. Grigsby, Clifton Richardson, A. S. Wells, W. S. Willis, George B. Guest, the Dallas Express, A. G. Perkins, et al;

THE DALLAS EXPRESS
"Gentlemen: What are you going to do between now and May 27 when the Republican state convention meets at Dallas, Texas? Will you do anything? Are you through? Is the spirit of Cuney dead in your hearts? Is not the voice of McDonald powerful enough to carry from Texarkana to El Paso?"
Foreign Advertising Representative:
Entered at Post Office at Dallas
Texas as second class master, under
Aid of Congress, March, 1879
The "Express" feels moved by more than a single reason to try to answer the query of Col. Simmons. There is every reason for his question. Texas leaders have shown that they are ready to begin the beginning of this campaign. Despite prayers, almost tears they steadily refused to make any sort of a statement or to move in any way calculated to get results until a group of voters called a meeting of their own accord and passed a set of resolutions calling the old Black and Tan Party into act-
THE DALLAS EXPRESS
has water hosted the white leather, whether it has been digged by the yellow streak. It is not affiliated with the flame retardant material, so it is resilient; conservation newsletters, which trims our sail to catch the pansing broops; files no dumbfaglish灯; it professes a patriotism as brand at our store; it is a cool, cool, cool justice covers all the territory occupied by the human race. This is pretty high ground, but we live on it and are presupposed. Bays of the press come with us. This ground is holy.
W. E. KING.
It is true that a powerful member of the "old guard" was present and signified his agreement in the precedents but since time there has been no reason to feel that any further action has been taken. The condition is deplorable. It ought not to be so. In so far as we have allowed the time to slip and our spirits to flag, we are due the greatest amount of criticism and censure. In two or three editorial utterances The "Express" has called the attention of Texans to this fact. But seemingly without result. It has, like Col. Simmons been led to believe that the time was ripe for action that would bring the results hoped for and it is still of the same opinion. This contest more than any in many years the "Grand Old Party" finds that this is "the time for all good men to come to the aid of the party." It will welcome Texans as all others, not primarily because of the fact that in the past it made the costly mistake of favoring the "Lily Whites to the exclusion of the more faithful and deserving Nugro, because it was not the best thing to have a deciding effect, it has been found that there is deep rooted desire that complete justice be done.
QUITTERS
Why is it that so many of our movements for good are started, followed for a time then allowed to fall into oblivion? Likewise the personal affairs of our which bid fair to become of the character, and happy and happy are so often shandoned when the pursuit of them becomes a bit difficult. Students choose only those courses which they are given to understand are easiest; if they prove hard they seem anxious to drop them. In short it is easier to start a course if you start easily and just as easily quitting.
The road of least resistance is the one that we invariably seem to choose. Ease and rest, the will, the desire, the love of our love of just letting the whole slide when the going gets rough is responsible for many of our reputation for being "happy go-10-uck". It is while occasionally to stop and watch that if course is the wine one to follow. It is worth while to stop and consider the course. We often think in terms of a day when our children will
take their places in the arena of experience. Since that day many and varied have been its experiences of the bravest of the brave; we will remember the story of its development reads like a novel. Vision a day of great accomplishment. In fact it is filled with so much of real struggle for the principal things of earth will have done to become acquaintance of things of earth will have done to become acquaintance of real Americanism.
This is not pessimism. It is fact it seems unfortunate but it is fact we are not pessimistic and we are like it, are enthusiastic over it. But let it get the least bit hard and we are ready to "spend the" sponge and call it a day.
er in New York after the last mayoral election said it was due to the license given to the guerrilla element by the Democratic administration. These things do not account for any considerable part of the change in sentiment. The threatened desertion of Colored citizens everywhere from Republican ranks is simply the method they have chosen to register for the presidential election. The history of the African in America will record this movement on their part as the beginning of a new epoch in his life here. We sincerely believe that the Republican party and the country have now awakened to this fact.
Pragrents and great achievement do not live in following such a way, but more and in the thinking see to it that our actions and teaching to our children are calculated to help them to "gather into the ways of men, women who can "stay put" until the job is finished or they try. The world rewards its really brave workers by abundantly giving them the victors wreath the chronic seer for the road of leisure re-
If the nation is wise it will take notice that the coming and present generation of Colored citizens is awake and insistent that justice be done the race in the vital matter of constitutional rights. If the nation has a concern or an eye for its future it will not ignore this solemn plea of a loyal, determined and deserving Americans for a righting of their wrongs and a redress of their grievances. Their race has found itself in the American equation."
The dissatisfaction is real and there is no reason to feel that it disregarded it will not have a decidedly bad effect.

In adult adolescence, leader readiness is the chief of operation, but he is a leader just the same, so long as he can draw on his new experiences with new explanations and new promises. New stories of what is going to be (but never be) are usually told to cover the eyes of followers. These situations are not always one, More often they are "colored."

BRIEF HISTORY OF THE REPUBLICAN PARTY
By Frank P. Litschert
CHAPTER TEN
GARFIELD AND ARTHUR
GARFIELD and Arthur convened in 1889 meet in chicago on June 20. J. Donald Cameron, as chairman of the Republican national committee called the convention and George F. The second Republican national convention had selected Abraham Lincoln as chairman and the party surreured control of the government. The pre-1876 Without.

This birthday anniversary is a splendid time for the leaders of the party to stop, look, and listen to those voices that are neither still nor small.
Seventy years old and called upon to face the greatest battle in its entirety. It befalls. Let it face its unfortunate acts of pandering to the "Lily Whites and other prejudiced groups that have almost lured it to its doom and determine in this beginning of a new year of its life, to make its future more brilliant than its past in deeds of construction and adherence to Democratic principles to a definite end. Its founders could they come to earth and observe its actions.

TEXA'S A QUESTION
The tide has turned. "Thee is a tide in the affairs of men," etc., so wrote the greatest writer of all times. Gentlemen, the G. O. P. will listen to reason now. It will demand Mr. Creagor to listen to reason also.
Is the heart of Texas sunken in the breasts of Texas' gentlemen. Samuel Fessenden, great United States senator, expressed the sentiment dispatched to you: "God Almighty hates a quitter."
Let Texas awake. Let there be no more of the criticism like this of Col. Simmons who knows whereof he speaks and tells the truth in every word.
The "Express" as ever is ready to get behind the movement of its political leaders and back them to the last ditch. it hopes that there will be some actual effort to get the machinery of the party into action and produce some real reaction. It hopes that the people will be forced. Faint hearts must not be allow to rule their actions to the extent that the welfare of the people at large will be allowed to suffer.
The Republican Party Has a Birthday
Last week the Republican party celebrated its 70th birthday. It was organized in Ripon, Wisconsin just 70 years ago. In a little schoolhouse at Ripon, where the party was formed, March 20, 1854, fifty-four men destined to go down

EPIDEMIC PAROFTTIS (SUMPPS)
DR. J. O. HARDIN
Mumps is a specific infectious disease, characterized by swelling of the glands and a special liability to the immune system. "Hipocorticum" who is the father of medici, described the disease in 1890. It affects children and young male adults, the absence of pus formation, and the presence of fever.
The germ causing the infection is unknown, however it is thought to be some form of a coccus. Most cases are seen in the sprained and fall, in children and young adults. Babies seldom have naps. Men and women are seen in the sprained and female. Institutions, barracks and schools the disease has been known to attack over 50 per cent of the population in the resident. The apprehension at the incubation period are not severe and are seldom noticed by the patient, however at the onset of disease there is fever which in most instances is slight, exceptionally sepsis.

Cohen could collude thousands of votes, and will mean his deflated agree that we will cause the republican party to win the Louisiana, but what in the hen feathers do we care about the votes of Louisiana, for if the reelection would mean the end of time, it would mean the end of time, and the devil would come direct out of his home and inhabit this city. We can say, that while Louisiana is lost to the party forever it will be able to win people in Louisiana, and one vote from me in Illinois is worth one thousand in Louisiana, and you may put this in your pipe and

What Are Negro Federated Organizations Doing?
I am very much pained, when I sit and think of the 26 years that I have stood at the head of the Dickson Colored Orphanage, bought and paid for 1185 acres of land that contains on it 42 buildings, little and big. Seven thousand five hundred eighty-eight children have been enrolled, and 144 girls married to good men, several students graduated and are teaching school, 44 boys married off to good women, all of whom are cared for, fed and clothed and educated, 20 employees working at the Home, some are teachers, farmers, two Agents on the field and at a cost of $2,700.0 per month to run this Institution, and yet we can not interest our leaders throughout the State, because of their lifeliness and undeveloped condition.
The Dickson Colored Orphanage maintains a regular high school with a full corp of teachers. Domestic Science, Domestic Art, Trek gardening, farming and Manual Training are being taught. Why can't the leaders of the race get under such a school like this.
(Fakes and Fakies)
There are some fakes and fakings going through the Country holding up to the public, a great school and hospitals that they have only on paper. Nothing in the world to show the public of what they are doing with the money. Going through the country collecting money, and the Negroes, pastors and Politicians haven't got the back end, and unloaded enough to state to the public and to defend their positions on these fakies.
(School Born Over Night)
Some of these people starts a school in Dallas, collect a lot of money, fall and run away, others start one million dollar four State Hospital, collect the money in Township of Tacoma, and others start another school in and in his head. Then another man starts a school in Dallas, falls, then goes to Longview starts a school then falls then goes to California, starts a school there and then starts a school better than it gets. And in the land, 800 students turned away, and this man is permitted to go over the Country collecting money for a school that has birthed 4 grown sisters in one night, and they are stinging to the world in interest of a school known as the "KEMP INDUSTRIAL" school. Then another man starts a school in Dallas, I have never left the State, I have stayed by the people from every angle, I have tried to be honest, I have told the truth, I have given to the public, an institution with a

I shall and do now appeal to the citizens of Dallas and Houston and discuss the issues of integrity and matter in your community, raise some amount, do something to help us. I beg you in the name of humanity to do something to help us encourage the hearts of these orphan children.
