With the passing of the Black Buff series into history the Dallas Black Giants add to their string two more victories and only one defeat. The Giants express Express Sorris the Houston Clan put up in each mill a very stiff contest making the home aggression hustle to win.
Sunday in a pair of well played games, even with the Count Dallas winning the first game 4 to 3 and Houston copped the second 4 to 3. Burdine pitching for Dallas won the first game and Beverly the idol of Houston fans danced and won the second. The lanky iron and won the iron and iron man stunt, when he asked the manager let him pitch the second game. He made good his intention of winning although it comes in the final a win, is a victory.
The Giants doubled the visits hit in the second game. Every member of the clan getting one or more hits. First baseman Shanks and Badie, Dallas, new short stop, was the only members of the team getting one or more hits. First baseman Shanks, Jerry Williams, Star second baseman and Captain of club punched the apple safely three times two of which were doubles. The local wrecking crew has at last found itself.
The baseball game with the count standing one game each, the Giant manager put one or any local fans when Gabriel the Fariis flashed went to the Mound Gabriel was a dark horse, but the miniature South Carolina he pitched like a favorite in a Kentucky Derby Race—a critical effort he himself saved the nery rookie from registering a shut out. The game was one of the prettiest seen on the field after the game. Frank Johnson starred in the role of sweat in last of the third inning. With a single right, F. Ten years ago extension work was started among Negroes of Texas with three men, R. L. Walker, E. V. Hunter, and H. E. V. Hunter. We have 88 workers in 26 counties in Texas. We have 28 men agents, two of them Negroes, and 64 women agents, 14 home demonstration agents with one general supervisor. In the state of Texas we have 57 counties with sufficient Negro population support in Texas. Several of these counties have qualified as to local funds and we are looking for a new county. The fiscal year, which is in July, for federal support for these counties. Ten years are not too much impatient for the qualification of workers among Negroes as is now the case Both Negroes are from the state and the need of well trained men and women to do this work. Our local farm agents are from the county and the country and home demonstration agents are women specially trained in Negro farmers and their wives are reaping the benefit of this service from these trained men.
It would be difficult to enumerate the many things done for the purpose of demonstration and service among the many things demonstrated and sserved by the agents however, are dairying, crop farming, drain and home management. The good done along these particular lines can be appreciated fully since the farm is a location to compare the present condition of farms and farm houses with conditions before extension service was done. The condition of counties with agents with that of counties where there are no agents. Among the things demonstrated and sserved by the local farm agents are terracing and ditching, improvement of soil by fertilization, irrigation, rotation, diversification of crops, better-dairy stock hog, farm animals, poultry and etc. The value of terracing and ditching may be seen by the increase in value of the farms where it has been done, because the farm or ditched was con

Because of the too full programs of the many grand lodges and the space to tell the legislation, which consist mainly of farce, just what extension work was and what extension program it was, the farmer of Texas. It was Hon. W. S. Willis Grand Chancellor of the grand lodges, and the program so as to allow space for this. This meant much to the service as others soon followed his example. The grand lodges are told just what extension service can mean to them. Their interest and desire for extension services are the service among our people, and the ultimate improvement of the service among our people. The frequent pride in the possession of good farms will mean, naturally, a decrease in the exodus of the grand lodges. We wish to specially thank Hon. W. S. Willis and his associates and others who are adding to the Negro farmers of Texas, who as
"Troubled Waters" is the little city written by an unknown author but as far as the analogy goes, it is a tough thought; in selecting these words as a subject it was the writers intentions to confine the readers between two ancient rivals, using as a background, jealously that is tempered only by the hammers. Now the thought, look out for an explosion; in the coming of the Painters to Riverdale Park Blank and Saturday and Sunday on the dashing sea of time, there will be a meeting of the Dallas Black Glants and Black Painters of Fl Worth. There are two games scheduled for Sunday; games called on this date at 3 P. M.; on Saturday at 4 P. M. The Captain has issued orders to ship mates to look out, rough sails ahead.

It is unfortunate but true that we seem never to become imbued with anything but the ideas of the days when our institutions were small and destined to remain so for the length of their days. Why should it not happen that it was not done? It would be interesting to question that he had rendered able to pay him a million dollar salary and then do more for those associated with it and interested in it than they had ever dreamed of? Why not? If there ever comes a time that our projects grow to the size of those operated by our neighbors, it will come when we have more of our thinking to go further than that of fifty years ago.
has never holstered the white leather, mother who has been disaffected by the yellow streak. It is not afflicted with the flannel mouth. It is a plain, cover day, sensible, conservative, nonthreatening, not nauseating breast; files on nauseating flag; it presents a patriotism as bread as an country. Its love of even humbler tactics covers all the territory accepted by the human care. This is pretty high ground, and the man is always busy. Days of the press come up and stand with us. This ground is help.
The Knights of Pythias will grow and stay strong only as those who make up its membership learn to know and appreciate the kind of growth that it has made in the past few years.
Pay Your Community Chest
Pledge
It has often been said by the critics of the Negro that he as a race was not to be relied upon to meet the obligations that he made and to fulfill the promises that he gave. It is a severe criticism and that has done more probably than believing in us who otherwise would at times lend a helping hand to our projects. And it is and but true that all too often we, by our actions do much to make our projects a less if not coarse fall in our promises. It is rather, we think, that we make these promises and then as easily for our purposes sort of strain in us that allows for our taking of things that others consider of the greatest importance with more case than
There is much fair complaint to be brought against this sort of procedure because the acceptance period, we allow for nothing other than the complete fulfillment of every request. It is then, no more than the expected thing to have the managers of the Community Chest more than 1,000 of the pledges made by our people in the Community. Chest Drive are now complying. There is no reason why these pledges should not have been seen after even though drivers made their payment impossible. The reputation of the race is built upon the experience of the people of the things trampled with them by us. If we fail in the things in the race, we can be no reason for the belief on the part of others that we are in any way dependable. And those who have pledged and so far fallen down on their promises will redemone themselves and save the race by their prompt attention to this matter. It is more than a person consideration. It involves a lot of work.
It is then, no more than the twenty or so leaders of the community. Cheat Fund complain over the fact that more than 7,000 of the pledges in the Community of Drive have now been taken to the fund last past time. They should complain. There is no reason to believe a large population has outstripped us and Houston is well on its way to the successful promotion of such an institution. There has been even though circumstances made their payment impossible. There is wealth in Dallas among its Negro citizen to as great an extent as there is in any city of its size probably. But there does not seem to be as great a love of real accomplishment among them as there is in some other cities even other race with us in the matter.
of the things transmitted with them. Somehow there is not here that sirit of cooperation and mutual help that there should be. The business men can be no reason for the belief on the part of others that we are not competent to form any sort of efficiently working body. The passions have such an association but its functioning is not what we are supposed to be. The men who had bide to outstrip them it is to be hoped that those who have pledged and so far failed to have developed internal trouble recently. The teachers are divided and are not able to come into the sort of reputation of the race in Dallas by their prompt attention to this matter and seem to have allowed alone does not seem to help. The social consideration. It involves
the standing of us all.
There would be no end of com-
promise if in the near most effort
we were to realize that we are not
keeping abreast of our people in other sections. And our
community at large, the drive di-
rectors should refuse to deal with
nothing stage that has characterized our
nothing stage for so many
years. When we will wake up? When we will begin to
realize that these good old days when things "just happen-
ed" and that it seemed funny
are" are over if they existed.
There would be no end or complication if in the next such effort put on for the improvement of the school system, the restors should refuse to deal with us except on a cash basis. We would not accept that "we were as trustworthy as others and that it seemed fun that now they should want to deal with us." We would do what we should do. They learn by experience and put the learning into practice. If we are not willing to put our promises they would be perfectly who to believe in them in the future.
To use the slang of the street, "we must decorate the mahogany" if we hope to obtain the things that others have.
As far as we are concerned, we have done nothing of a public sort that could be boasted of in many years. As a collection of people we are failures. Of course as individuals this is not so for some of our individual men have wrought well. But the group action is not what it should be. The contemplation of the success of the St. Louis Y. M. C. A. gave opportunity for our saying so and we have said it. And we dare any truthful person to successfully dispute our statement. This is not "calamity howling." It is just the plain truth.
Only oeward will quit when things got hard and try to shift the responsibility that rightly no longer to this role the shoulders of some others.

FOR THE WOMAN WHO CARES.

The Express has purposely kept out of the Pythian situation because it felt that things had not quite reached the point that warranted a calling of the public attention to the right way of thinking. And the Express in the outset of these remarks realize that the charges of subsidization that are being brought against it and others can in no way be escaped in this instance. But since its duty to the people demands that it always speak in the effort to direct the charges in the proper way in the proper charges and only demands that they be proven in the defense of fairness.
A WEST INDIAN-AMERICAN COALITION
There seems to be a group of Pythian malcontents that is making its voice heard in many quarters of Texas and the burden of the song of that group is that the affairs of the Pythians are not being administered to their liking. One member of this group in speaking a few days ago made the statement that the main complaint was that the Grand Chancellor is not being trained to help them. It seems strange that even after so many years of poor institutions and failing institutions, we have not learned to value ability and the things that it can and does bring to pass for us. We are really like in many ways to the swimming hog who in fighting to make progress and probably to save his life from the water, cuts his own throat with the very organs that should carry him to safety. Such a statement of our willingness to tear down is probably more than being so often stated to the effect that we are much like a man who makes his own way out of the crab crawl. They always pull him down as often as he starts.
There has never been in the whole history of fraternal orders in Texas a more prosperous condition maintained as in the Knights of Pythias during the past seven years. Its membership has more than doubled. Its finances have passed the half-million dollar mark and its members now are in position to reap the direct benefits of the large fund that they have accumulated during these years. Where is the harm done to the people? Is it directly traceable to the methods and plans of the Grand Chancellor, is he to be tormented because of that fact?
His salary? There the rub comes. The same gentleman quoted above made the remark that "there is not a Negro in the world whose work is worth as much as the Grand Chancellor receives." When asked if he did not believe that a man was worth at least a part of the amount of money he received, he was able to hint to that concern, he had nothing to say.
FOR THE WOMA
It of course cannot be said that there are not other men in its ranks who could do much for it. But it can be said that the callibre of those who are making the greatest efforts in the search for the greatest words, when searched, do not reveal one single act or contribution to the well-being of themselves and their race. We. of course do not know them all. But those with whom we have come in contact do not have the markings of "howling men" who may perceive pride to anything constructive that we accomplish.
It may be a relief to frown when one is basal, with troubles but the other is upright, with leaks that leave hides lines behind. Those who retain smooth velvety skints to an advanced age are invariably in a calm temperament. A calm temperament. A whisper hints to the women with a completion finished to lowness cream instead of dead white as this will minimizes the deep tone.
It will be well for the rank and file of the general public of Texas to give these constant "kickers" and "habitual knackers" a good looking over before trusting too much in the things that three men

It is well to allow a man to stand on his record. It is good always to seek the real fact in any case before coming to any decision. If our people could only learn and practice this, there would scarcely ever be need to wonder at their courses. And the "habitual grouch" and everlasting "knocking" would be relegated to the place in oblivion to which they rightfully belong. The Pythians of Texas be guided by the facts. These we feel are sufficient. Sentiment in the conduction of large or small business concerns has always been found dangerous and unprofitable.

The Bishop question was settled, and then attention was turned to him, and honey. I wish you could have seen them without opposition elect the Rev. Dr. D. M. Baxter. He had been elected by unanimous vote, and all shouted when it was over. Then Prof. John R. Hawkins stepped in without opposition, and Dr. R. B. Morris stepped in without opposition, the Christian Recorder, and Prof. A. S. Jackson, the poplar commissioner of education walked in with a vote. I praise the Lord for that and there was S. S. Morris and he jumped over the fence without opposition, and not have named the men in order, but want to get in all who were not opposed, those whose positions were not contested with our opposition. You remember to look at you. You remember I had the Lord was burying call men of pastorate, and would be necessary for the Lord to call more bishops and general officials with many bishops and general officials.
Now comes the first real contest and it started one day and did no work before telling more about this.
