he has never hastened the white feather, neither has it been digged by the yellow streak. It is not affiliated with the flamell month. It is in a plain, every day, sensible, conservation newspaper, which has no doubt that it will files on doubtful flags: it professes a patriotism as broad as our country. Its love of even hands-faced covers all the territory accepted by the human race. This is pretty high ground, but we live on it and we are preparing to stand with us. This ground is help.
Of course the time will never come in the South in the near future when such a course will be possible. The lines of political demarkation as yet are too tightly to allow any such happenings. Unless the choice of the Negro is made between the Republican and some of the other parties which as yet have not proven attractive in their platforms, there must be the same adherence to the G. O. P. that has characterized our voters in the past.
W. E. KING.
Patronize the City Parks
Again the summer as in the two years that have just passed it becomes necessary to again call the attention of the public to the publicizing the public parks and play grounds. Too little the attention in paid to the efforts that are being made by the city to furnish healthful recreation for the Negro citizens of the city to furnish healthy recreation for them to enjoy their leisure. Tennis courts are furnished and kept up free of charge to the general public; a community center with paid attendees and indoor facilities; a public park on the North Dallas park also; two other parks are provided in other parts of the city and last but not least the swimming pool in the city to be found in few other cities of the site of Dallas in any other city.
Reports of the recent meeting of the Texas Federation of Women's clubs show that the interest in that work among the women of Texas has advanced to the point that it is no longer a matter of probability. It has grown to the size of an institution and its performances are to be respected by the women of Texas. The $2,000 was raised for payment on the home for delinquent girls which was proposed at its meeting three years ago. This is good. It shows that the development of the women of our group in Texas to the point of being able to cooperate effectively for a common cause has proceeded even more rapidly than a few years ago would have been possible. We have completed this project and go from it to something larger.
There is no way of determining for the benefit of the general public of the amount of expense it will take to furnishings of this sort of facilities for us. Much money is required to keep and it is necessary that we do all in our power to make it apparent that the expenditure is
But there is a word to be said of local clubs which are parts of this Federation in regard to their ability to serve their communities in the best way. So many of them, do not affiliate in an energetic way with the central body. They are not represented in its councils and annual meetings. Therefore they lose just so much of the inspiration and help that would otherwise come to them. Then too, there is the determination on the part of some of them to attempt to duplicate in the cities in which they exist, the program of the parent body. This is not to be hinder but hinder the progress of the parentbody by robbing it of their help which is vitally necessary to the completion of a worthy program.
It should be true that every pastor and leader of the community should have guidance and direction to patronize these places to the extent of their ability. They should become aware of the importance of the amusement of the city. And where it has been found necessary to take this step, in the case of the swimming pool, this fee should be paid gladly. If the public does not need any the need for the necessity of the wonderson on the part of those who have the obligation of attending the pool, then whether our public appreciates the efforts of the "city to keep it clean"
A local club in a city where it is not the habit of the general public to give largely to the support of charitable enterprises cannot hope with much success to do anything in as large a way as the central body which has so many more sources from which to draw its support. They require thought, good business management and much finance. And the smallest part of their establishment is the purchase of them. Such a task is well nigh too great for a single club of a few members who are not so wealthy as to be able to contribute hundreds of dollars for its establishment and maintenance. The truth should be faced by members of such clubs and their policies shaped according-
If it is true that we have not an vet been educated up to the age of ten, we have no character of the ancient teaching of cura as to modesty and propriety, there is no character of those of the facilities that do not meet our approval, and with a view to making them of the set that are necessary in the profession, this institution that will cause us to stay away form them and criticize them.
A club which can collect only a few hundreds of dollars each year cannot hope to be highly successful in the handling of a project which requires thousands of dollars to esquire. A project that requires a large number will not result in the desired way. To so plan and attempt to operate is a waste of time and energy. There are so many other things that are more highly possible and more
Let this be done. Let every member of the community realize the importance of play grounds are for the benefit of our public and that they can only as the members of the general public patronize them and enjoy the amount of good. If they have a process of benefit to other children, they can benefit of other places they should be of benefit to us and our children.
THE DALLAS EXPRESS, DALLAS, TEXAS, SATURDAY, JULY 19, 1924

These are some of the things the statements contained here but they are true nevertheless, that can well be thought of by those who have in their Clubs locally may with much hope of large success en-charge the direction of local women's clubs. This way is courage art and needle work which will directly benefit the not spectacular but it will lead to the accomplishment of a homes of members and those who come in contact with great amount of good and will increase the chances of success. This will be achieved by the encouragement of others to take the race in that particular locality can be made with much hope body, which is much more able to carry them to completion, of good results. There is a great amount speculation as to the final outcome of the effort now being made by the Democrats of the North to cause a movement of the Negro of that section of the country to their standard. The latest action in that regard is the intention to run a Negro as a candidate for the position as representative in opposition to Martin B. Madden who has been the Republican standard bearer for the past years.
CORPORATIONS AND THEIR BUILDING.
CORPORATIONS AND THEIR BUILDING.
Some alarm for the ability of the Negro voters to stay hard by the standards of the party in view of the fact that another Negro is in the running on another ticket is being felt by party leaders.
Dallas has received the announcement that our city has been chosen by the National Negro Finance Corporation for the establishment of one of its branches. The subject is heartily welcomed and we are sure that this corporation will be by coming into our community.
Democratic alignment on the part of Negroes in America is to some unthinkable at this time because of the fact that party has been responsible for so much of the unfortunate legislation and disfranchisement of their group. The fact that the Democratic party has its stronghold in the South, where there are few real progres made by who have in the past launched such vitriolic attacks against the race at every opportunity gives reason enough for the feeling that there can never be any real progres made by that party in the ranks of Negro voters. It is hard to feel that even in the North where there has not been so far the same kind and amount of prejudice that has characterized the South, that there could be any real benefit to come from any alliance with that party. The feeling that all good candidates "bad" Democrats will tend to prevail for some time to come.
To us, this is another example of the accuracy and system of our business, and the basis of operation that it has evolved into a corporation which we readily accept the fact that system and accuracy are two of our core assets of any concern. 20 appraisements of nothing definite in our minds, with no definite point in view we have, and consequently without these capabilities a system we have no goal to reach and consequently without these capabilities that there can evolve any business which can claim for itself any magnitude or financial
But the continuation of efforts along the lines indicated by this latest move of that party in the North will do much to change that attitude. It is a fact that the Negroes of this country are coming to a realization of the fact that men and not parties are the things to be studied and relied upon. And the willingness of any party to give more recognition to the race in the affairs of the party will result in more of good than can now be said.
This is truly an era of finances, when all of the activities of our business will be shaped by the spirit of becoming a potent factor in the great financial scheme of our industry. Individual effort are placing all of their energies in that direct financial assistance of the financial scheme of our community in no small job. The attainment of a number of objectives with number of activities or individuals should be encouraged to support the support from the public at large for the advancement and development of the business. We need the support of all of the features necessary
Those who contend that there should be a division of the voting strength of the race between parties will no doubt have their desires fulfilled before they are aware of it. It can be confidently expected that in this campaign in Illinois, in spite of the fact that all who think, know that the nomination of a Negro for the position now held by Madden is only a move for the division of the vote in that section, there will be many who will vote for Dickerson, the nominee for purely racial reasons. And that is perfectly natural. And, there can be no condemnation of them for this action. The time must come in our political life when we will think that we are in a position to act as for the actual benefit that the use of our suffrage in the way in which it is used will bring. If it is more beneficial for our group in the North to vote the Democratic ticket, if it brings to them more of benefit than the voting of the Republican why is it unthinkable that they should vote it?
For The Wom
Such a condition is not the most unfortunate that could be imagined if it can be realized that more of benefit may be derived from it if the methods used in that adherence are of such sort as to bring more opportunity of active participation. The fact that the methods used as particularly are concerned have been proven nearly worthless. They belong to a day gone by forever. They must be changed radically. To wait and almost beg for the recognition that rightfully belongs to us is not necessary. We have the power to change that condition if we can but summon the necessary nerve and sacrifice to the extent that is
Such a condition is not the most unfortunate that could be imagined if it can be realized that more of benefit may be derived from it if the methods used in that adherence are of such sort as to bring more opportunity of active participation. The old methods as far as the South and of Texas particularly are concerned have been proven nearly worthless. They belong to a day gone by forever. They must be changed radically. To wait and almost beg for the recognition that rightfully belongs to us is not necessary. We have the power to change that condition if we can but sum up the necessary nerve and sacrifice to the extent that is necessary.
Editor Richardson in an editorial of a few weeks ago struck the right note when he suggested that if greater participation was wanted efforts to gain it would be necessary

Rings existed in the time of the earliest Baptism, but probably they date back even father than antiquaries can trace. In the first book of the Bible we read how Pharrell took a ring from his hand and gave it to Joseph as mark of honor.
It was a Roman custom for the friends of the bride and bridegroom to meet at the house of the bride's father, before the wedding, to arrange details of the marriage contract. A feast took place, concluding with the placing of an altar in the center of the woman's left hand, and the day was arranged on which the ceremony was to take place. This formed a pledge that the wedding would be honorably carried.
During the second century gold displaced the iron. The use of the ring did not receive the sanction of the Church, and was booked on purely as a secular proceeding, until the eleventh century.
The wedding ring was placed on the woman's fourth finger because it was believed that a nerve from that finger ran to her ear.

Although it was an erroneous supposition, the priesthood retain- ing the association with the Trinity, beaten old times form of service was for the husband to place the boop on the top handle of the fiddle, saying: "In the name of the Father, then removing it to the fore and saying to the name of the Son of God, the finger with "And of the Holy Ghost;" and finally leaving it at rest on the fiddle, saying: "The word "Amen." When the inner meaning of it all is revealed, the beauty of the practice is enormously enhanced.

What-Not Column.
Helena, Ark.—The democrat of this country has had a helpline time in nominating a man to run for president of the United States, and perhaps it will have happened and then we may rejoice in it. I hope my republicans are going to exercise some real common sense. Tell them that I say work will have to be done, and they will not have time to throw away for it. I will have to be conducted on a white man's plank or any other man. They will have to take into consideration that the work cannot be elected. My advice, presented free of charge, is that in that case you should be busy at that. Call on the best available man and women of the country, to bind the spell. You will have to say that of a black man and tell just how he is going to vote. I don't care what the south may have to say in the nomination, but the north are going to fill our votes, and every vote up there will count next fall. In Illinois, and in New York, that they have selected a man of my race to make the run against Congressman Madden. I will tell them.
The other time when I took my pen in hand to write you a few lines, I was in Virginia, and in Luctbury at that attending the Sabathical Jubilee celebration of the death of Dr. Thomas Jefferson King, and he is indeed a fine predeceiving of me. I was entertained by President R. C. Wood, and his wife, as the guest you some other things. It was a big time there fro me. I enjoyed all of it and was soon headed for the University. I say, to say, I stopped at Ashley, Ky. Do you want to know why I stopped at Ashley? Tell you, Rev. Julian C. Calwell D. D. the editorial secretary of the School Literature commencing next week, is there and I stopped over to see you. I reached her about 4 clock in the morning and found this young man and soon toed me over to his home which was just a hop-step and jump from the stable where I was.
I spent the morning with Dr. Caldwell and in the afternoon with Dr. Chicago, but missed connection and spent the night there with the pastor of the African Methodist Church to pay for it by speaking Sunday night. Monday morning, found me headed for Chicago over the weekend. Chicago at 5:30 found Dr. J. S. Trecea waiting and to me told the Stewart, and found them all in good spirits over the return of Charles Stewart to the city. His visit a block off of the old chip. I got around in Chicago. Had the pleasure of seeing Miss Bar. He was the strongest fraternal man of great worth and ability. He is a man who is pleading for things to be brasseted about things in this
137. Who was Iben Khalden?
137. Who was Ibn Khaled?
Of the early life of Ibn Khaled, noted Arab scientist and Historian, very little is known; but the results of his research work were given to the world in such a clear common manner and with such an authority; that he has been named as one of the greatest Historians of his age. Khaled gape to the world much about the history of the Middle Ages, which facts are, that Melle had an area equal to the United States and flourished from 750 A. D. to 1200 A. D. He ruled in regular succession. 138. What did Mr. George Pearce do toward assisting Colored States? Dr. Henry Brown, of Oberlin, secretary of the International committee in organization of M. C. world. Miss Ford is indeed a brilliant woman, and she is now getting back some of her health.
She is the pleasure of meeting Mrs. Eileen Criner, of Beamont, who is one of the teachers in her home town and is now putting more brain in her head, getting better by becoming better prepared. She is the guest of Mrs. Elvie L. Kearns, of Texas, their childhood days or some part of them together in Texas. She is in any way can be, and her anemie may put it down. I told you that an anemie to ignorance, illiteracy and all that claims relation to them is one way may put it down how to make all the latest charges she is one more useful woman. She has the pleasure of being some time through and when she was through. I made a bee-line to St. Louis, wore I asst an hour or so as an officer, and was soon off
I left on the Priscife for this part of the world, but not direct from there. I went to Memphis to meet the men, including myself, *enroute to* Helena to dedicate the mournment or unveil the one erected to the memory of the man. Morris, who was for so many years president of the National Baptist Convention and one of the men of this race, did country. This was a great man, and his memory is denounced, his race and his family. I named the family last, because the others seemed to be in charge of it, for which some abused him. others walked out and organized another convention, but Dr. Ells Camp worked on and control their own property, and the publishing house should be owned not by a Board of Trustees, but in office, by the convention itself. He went to his grave with this idea, and it will not die, for the men behind it are following his lead.
This was the 48th anniversary of the church, the installation of the 48th president of the church, and then the monument. H. W. such excellent work that 'it became necessary to secure that it be colored men to assist him, their chief laborers being confined mainly to organize associations for colored men and bots in schools and colleges. In 1607 a modern building to serpe as a model for other buildings for colored men, was resented to the people of Columbus, Fayetteville, and at a cost of $30,000. 135. What was the result of the passing of the Fugitive Slave Act? When President Filtion signed the Fugitive Slave Act on Sept. 17, 1865, the migration that continued up to the opening of the Civil war, resting in thousands of people of color in the South, caused many thousands more to move from one state into another seeking safety from their pursuers. The people of South Carolina have produced and it did more to convert northern to abolitionist beliefs than the abolitionists.

The tourist had stopped in a small rural village. He was prepared to resume his bourgeois when he would watch a constable watching him narrowly.

Colored persons ultimately died of
the disease, but great improvement
in their health was achieved. In
1921 tuberculosis was responsible
for 416 dna's for each 100,000 Cot-
nental persons injured in the Metro-
val. The death rate had dropped
to 314 or nearly one-half.
The mortality among the Color of policymakers from tuberculosis is white only twenty years ago, when the tuberculosis campaign "Tobling indicates so well the natural health condition of a race as the incidence of tuberculosis and the incidence in its mode of life as a down drop In this death rate. There can be no question that this imminent and great advances in the economic and social condition of the Colored people The Colored people are learning all the time how to take better care of themselves in so to their changing environment.
Much of the credit for the improved health standards of Nogrean agroforests who have been working among them distribution of health literature, attendance of visiting experts, and training of agroforesters are regarding their own care and the care of babies, recommendation of all these welfare measures have desired to bring about the reduction in the Nogrean mah rate, Dr. Dublin
Colored children show the greatest improvement in mortality of any race in the United States, and are only due to the gradual and persistent education of Colored children in how to feed and care for children of African descent, to the immutable diseases of childhood, including anaret fever, whooping cough, and measles, and to the 15 per cent in death was recorded between 1911 and 1923, and in all of these except whooping cough. The mortality of Colored children less than 15 years old is half in this 15-year period. Great improvement has been made in the health of Colored children, which according to Dr. Doubts, indicate better sanitary conditions surrounding the Colored children, whose results largely from the chronic degenerative disease as a cerebral hemorrhage, organic disease, cancer, and diabetes, too, have increased in mortality figures since 1895. Diphilis and its sepsis are more Nigro deaths each year. A more extensive campaign against sepsis has been put to power their wolfish and lower their death rate.

I am now in New York. I spent a day in Memphis the guest of Dr. and Mrs. T. O. Fuller, and
the guest of another great person of this race of ours, Mrs.
I had the pleasure of meeting M. a. M. B. Biggs, of Tylers, Texas, who is a supervisor in the county. I will be here to help her way to Tukuegee Institute to take on some more education. She paid me a high compliment, by giving me a railroad. I want to thank her for the high compliment and hope some day to work up to it. I will be able to direct the lives of the youth into proper manhood and womanhood. God help her to reach the end of her life. I will and will have to bring this letter to a stop. Let me hear from you.
