Church comes a statement in regard to the Negro ministry that explains to a great extent the failure of the Negro church as such to exert the influence for good in the life of the race that the conditions of living and progress in the race today demand. Says the statement: "The most neglected part of professional educational in America is that of the Negro ministry. Less than 100 well trained young Colored men graduated from the theological seminaries last year, and took degrees in theology. There are more than 60,000 Negro ministers in America. There are more than 50,000 Negro ministers from the Negro ministers parochy to 5,000,000 Colored people each week. They touch more Negroes than any other social or charitable institution in the country. They touch more than the public schools. MEMBER NATIONAL NEGRO PRESS ASSOCIATION. It is unfortunate that the number of ministers who are trained is exceedingly small as compared with the number that need training. The latest reports published in the Nerel Journal of Journalism Negroes were in theological seminaries in this country. THE SOUTH AS A FACTOR IT IS AN UNFORTUNATE historical fact since the formation of the state there a sectional rivalry and antagonism between - what is geographically the South - had as its inception the institution of slavery the existence of white slaves for a period of years through the application and adherence to the pernicious doctrine of slave slavery the right of state to what it pleased and to put any later pretention upon the Constitution it saw fit was thus practically up to date. EXPERIENCE has demonstrated that this process of reasoning is unreasonable and impossible for the reason, chiefly that the Southern solidity is not based upon the expressed will of the North. Heck, while Western votes, speak and think according to their own convictions. And it must be corrected in some way. Just how cannot be said. But figures like these cannot be taken lightly. What was the Shadrack incident of 1851? There is a group of leaders in Texas who have called on the Negro voters of the state to support the bolt of the former Black and Tan Party, according to advises current, to the third party whose ticket is headed by LaFollette. And, reading "between the lines," as it were, those leaders seem to be inspired by more than the ordinary amount of zeal in behalf of the proposed bolt. They argue that the Negro voters of Texas who naturally are Republican have not been given the square deal by the party in Texas nor in the deference committee. They say that there is no chance for the Texas party to again be considered in the deliberations of the party and the natural thing to do is to go to a party which welcomes him. One of the earliest incidents to arise under the Fugitive slave law was that of Shadrack, a Negro employed in a Boston coffee house. Shadrack was arrested for having escaped from slavery, but as Massachusetts and forbidden the lukik for fugitive cases; the court ordered him to detain their prisoner in the U. S. courtroom. Almost immediately a mob of Negroes broke into the building rescued the prisoner and slipped him into Canada. Great excitement was felt among the rescuers; were inflicted and tried, but the jury disregarded. The incident showed that the new law was not effective in Massachusetts in view of the fact that the rescues had the whole support of "The Vigilance The history of the struggle of the Black and Tan Party in Texas contains a chapter dealing with its beginning which is still rather a closed book to the causal observer. It has to do with the split of the party in San Antonio and the defeat in the Chicago convention. The president is a man of vision, a man of ability, and a business man, and associated with him is that business genius of the world to make you know him, because of his wonderful ability, and what he is doing for his race in many particulars. He is an active layman in the African Methodist Episcopal Church, and a man with power. He had much to say in the last general conference, Ky. I was right there and saw the things go through. Mr. Spandling is imprintered of one of the largest if not very largest Sunday School in America, the White Rock Baptist tundray School of Durham, N.C. Now you see the combination president Baptist, vice-president that means things hang nothing. Now you talk about education and educators. I met two men who represented their work, and they made some speeches. You will recall how North Carolina went up into the million dollar business. You will remember the state. I told you about the one which was taken over headed by Dr. Shepard, and Prof. F. B. Fulcher, who graduated of the college, made a wonderful address on "Education," and he was followed by Berry O'Kelly and Irene O'Kelly, who what a wonderful agriculture man Prof. Bullock. He was a paid tribute to what he termed one of the educational line-Prof. N. G. Newboulden who had charge of the educational work among my peers. It seemed to me that Mr. Newland was well known, for when he met Kelly he received an enthusiastic ovation from all those present. So he asked Kelly to speak, and that plea that Dr. Robert M. Rojas paid him a word of praise. Then Mr. D. O Kelly paid his respects to Dr. Newland, and he addressed, education, headed by A. T. E. Brown, director, and he spoke of the trail education at A and T. college, and spoke of other great professors. Prof Hudson, extension director and J. D.
