Grand Lodge of W. Parker acted as hostmaster. "Haytil wants the assistance of the American Mason, we require his assistance at the distance in breaking the burdensome political势头 that your political history has and applies to the M. He has an excellent guage, and is very familiar with both the written and unwritten history of the Negro. He is a man of small stature, very dignified in manner and a most pleasant person in the United States, he conducted certain negotiations that will accomplish much toward the establishment of a clandestine Masony who have been purporting to be operating under the name Haytil. This is probably one of the greatest accomplishments of his trip, and it will do much toward the phases of Fraternal matters in this country.

ASK STATE COLLEGE FOR NORTH CAROLINA
(A. N. P.)
RALEIGH N. C. Nov. 22—A resolution urging the North Carolina board of education and the general assembly to take steps to create a four-year college for Colored teachers and teachers and one-day conference of education leaders from all sections of the state held at Shaw University Monday.
One of the outstanding speeches of the day, Prof. N. C. Newbold, division director of Negro education of the state board of education, declared:
"The Negro people of North Carolina are exceptional. They have advanced beyond it. They have other cities in character, stands of living, and education and are now prepared to meet the same education that will welcome their neighbors. North Carolina has faith in its Negro people. It spends millions and it believes there should be one standard for teachers, not two."
The state board of education, A. T. Allen, expressed the belief that the greatest single need in the education of Negro students is preparation of teachers. The conference we reminded that the state is preparing to send 215,000,000 on Negro education to a shortage in excess of the entire amount expended for Negro and white education during the decade from 1890 to 1995.

‘absolute liberty, . Garvey would found a state in Africa.
[Others have already sought other fields of freedom in Mexi-
leo. Still others tell of the wonders of South America and
lof the wonderful opportunities which are to be found there.
But nowhere is there the ideal condition. It is well to
ine this fact. Berything bas {ts unfortunate ereu-

lthere ideal condition. It is well fo realize this fact. Every.
‘thing haa its unfortunate circumstances and the task of
‘man, woman, or race is to seek the place which offers
ithe amount of that which is good: and. taking that
‘place, seek by every means possible to bring into existence
‘those other favorable conditions which are recognized as
necessary to successful living there.
Gonsidered from that angle, America for the Negro is
ithe ideal spot, It, by reason of its form of government,
‘offers to him in greater abundance than is to be found else-
where, the eas for self expression and contribution
to the sum ‘of the public good commensurate with his
ability. Its schools give him an education; not according
to his ideals nor, as is the case in the South, equal to that
given others, but he is not denied the opportunity to con-
tend for improvement in that regard nor to contribute to
that improvement byshis own efforts. Its largely unde-
veloped resources give him opporturfity for the aceumula-
tion of large wealth. And, to a larger extent than is true
with many’ races in other coantries, 1ts government pro-
tects him. ri ‘
Of course there-ate features which are objectionable,
even to the point of seeming at times unbearable, connected
with hfs existence here. But it would seem that those ob-
js featares would be considered as a task well,
