SLIGHT INCREASE IN-MINESOTA LABOR DEMANDS
SAINT FAUL. Minnesota. April 11—It is reported by Fred D. McCracken, of Saint Paul, that continued cold weather in Minnesota has prevented the commencement of construction work in the larger cities of the State. Nevertheless, construction companies have begun to organize their crews for the season's work, which it is expected will employ a large number of Negro workers. Mr. Campbell also points out that a recent survey of the industrial centers of Michigan, particularly Detroit, Piscata, Muskogee, shows an overcrowded condition that is dangerous to the health and morals of the newcomers and serious effects of the social and environmental status. No family. Mr. Campbell believes that a farm movement will remedy this condition as well as place the race in Michigan on a firmer foundation of independence.

WASHINGTON, D. C. 59TH A.N. One entire month of the year, A. N. One hundred and twenty-five, we are reminded. On every hour, colored cards are given to Colleen going to do "There is a God in the world." Colleen even has the greatest and most powerful in his alliance. In a speech made during a program rendered by the children of Dickson Orphanage a few days ago, Rev. Dickson made a statement to the effect that last year, the $4100 collected for the maintenance of the orphanage, only $2000 was contributed by Negroes. He also said that the $4000 collected in Dallas, during the past three weeks period, $4000 has been contributed by white church congregations, while only $200 has come in from all sources among Negroes. In concluding these statements, Rev. Dickson made the following significant statement: "It seems that Negro Christian confine all of their services to these unfortunate children to pray always pray loudly for them, but that is about all that they do."

There is a great deal of truth in the latter statement. And the matter of orphan children is not the only thing in the world that is not true. It is a spirit and set mosey. It is a pitiful truth, but it is a truth neverless. We talk loudly, pray much, and act but little. We seem to be willing to confine our desire to hope and to believe that we will come or stay away. But it is equally true that so long as we are characterized by that sort of procedure, we will still want for the majority of the things which we feel are desired.

In the matter of the orphanage we are falling far short of our individual and collective.duty. We have money enough to support these children. In the orphanage we are not the only one who no other group of persons in the state to see to it that they receive the needed instruction and training. In spite of all of these known things,

we pray for them and stop there. Two thousand dollars a year for the care of our own children where there are 800 children. We want to do something to consider. Such a fact shows little racial pride and a smaller amount of progress toward the point of consciousness.
phan children of Texas convicts us of a lack of the very things which we are forever boasting that we have acquired—the ability to think in terms of the needed fundamentals of race building, and to carry out that thinking by means of the law. We are Texas, the case would be reversed. Negroes should contribute the greater amount of the money necessary to maintain them, and the incidentals should be contributed by others. Thus only will we be able to truthfully prove, not merely to prove, that we are Texas.
It is reported that at a meeting in regregation, by segregating themselves or members of the race held between students, three Negro colleges were whenever occasion arose; and in proof of this fact pointed three Negro colleges of the same city, the discussion arises as to the location in a section of the city where all of its customers would of necessity be Negrees, and placed signs outside premises for Negrees. One of the white students took the position of Negrees designating one door for whites and another for Negrees.
in reported that at a meeting in a white college in a Southern city and three Negro colleges of the same university, I was asked to justice of equal educational opportunities for Negroes. One of the Negroes that the Negro should not have heard that the Negro should not have heard the response of the Negro. I gave a paper for a debate, stating his reason for his response. When he answered, he replied, "I did not hear of his argument." He replied, "I into the subject, I found I was wholly mistaken. My views are completely changed and I cannot claim that the same sort of educational opportunities I have received should be allowed." Not only that I thought we ought to do something about this matter. A great many people still think as I know. Let's go to work and get the latter over to the park
POLITICS AS IT SHOULD BE PLAYED
Thus is the interpersonal work making progress in the South. It is given problem of prejudice to be thought out and solved, not only by the older members of both races but among students who thought of the nation. This of course, the opportunity is given opportunity in their minds to just so will many others at age 18 opportunity for the presentation of the real rather than the superficial and more questionable that it is. Good students must come to the white students of all ages. But on the part of the Negro there must come just one such an awakening that the opportunities for intelligent creature they will be asked upon. For the creature they will be asked questions as to what they really want, what should be their status in the nation. And upon their answers they will have those statements will be made. A careful start will be made. A good probability will be change of mind in regard to the reality of the average Negro student's questions as these, primarily to the fact that he should have opportunities and to think of them without the circumstances which surround him.
to change this condition, at least as far as they are able, by actually picking a ticket and campaigning for it with the express understanding that no worker was to receive any remuneration for his service. It was a ticket, and this self-record in its service to the Negroes of the city to which leaders of thought could point with pride and upon which they could base their arguments for its further support. They did this. And whether this ticket wins or not, these leaders have guaranteed that the respect of members of the other race for the group. They have also done another thing. They have guaranteed for themselves and other members of the race opportunity to receive a more respectful hearing on any issue that they have been possible under other circumstances. Too much credit cannot be given for this sort of action. And the same sort of procedure might well become the rule rather than the exception in our political action everywhere. Men are not the race group that are accrued from political participation, then those who serve politically must serve with a view to making these benefits possible. The benefits must come after the service, and money should have no place in it. The race group in Dallas. The Express feels that in the doing of it, the race has been benefited more than can now be known.
of the group generally give little room for the belief that there is no clear view of what should be their stance that will be demanded in time to come. If there is no believed need to indulge in thought everywhere to begin to understand the process for the service and to see it to that opportunity America as they affect the Negro community and to see to it that opportunity is given for the discussion of these issues by student groups everywhere.
Church houses are worth the spony that is put into them only as a real service to humanity issues forth. Those who are not willing to take care of their own need not that they will have any more interest in them. Real man never big for a chance. They make of what they have, the things that they want.

The time has come when we must, more of our duties in order that we may demand more rights, the case now stands, we have more rights than we have now, and we must be supported by real Negro money. Let us continue to pray, but let our prayers be backed up by more real honest acts, and it will be found that many of the things now hope, will come as a matter of course.
Speaking of his guest chamber, wah reminded of the time when a man named A. A. Andrews "Momorial" Hospital did not have there Dibble. Dibble was surraea, but I had the bath room and some one said at the hospital that all the guests are surraea them that all the guests are surraea ocean and that is not taking a real ocean and that is not taking a real ocean

The Express has always contended, and always will contend, that that sort of policy is wrong. If we must be segregated, let it come over our protests. It should never be segregated, let it come over anything which savors of agreement with the practice.
It cannot be told now many persons of the race will willily go into the place of that man who would segregate them. It is not the case that the policy does not suit those upon whom he must depend for his patronage. His white customers will all be incidental.
hotel but down $1,600 to the tune of the education. I came in touch with some of the good people connected with the school Miss Carrie I. Felder, the efficient clerk was willing to write some letters to me and she did some help to spell some words. I found that there are lots of things I can spell but I am not much on the pronouncing, for instance I have never been able to pronounce "damphules," but I can spell it and what it means I don't know.
Miss Felder is the bookkeeper at this place, but I hope she will not keep my book, the one I permitted her to read. It has not been returned, but it has not been returned. She has a professional bookkeeper though, and it is not safe to lend a book to that class of people. I met Mrs. Hinton, who comes from Boston, and she is teaching the girls how to read a good book and how to read a good kind of work. She then Miss Irene Lee from Springfield, Mass., and she is teaching the cooking act. She made me an angel food cake, but must have sent it into her own cake eternity for I have not seen it yet. Farmer's dear cashers in bed is me, me, and I am so sad. I did not get to even see them.
The campaign for the election of city officials for another two-year term is drawing to a close. When this piece is read, the returns will have been published and probably the officials will have been definitely chosen. But whatever the outcome, the campaign will have been true; members of our race, in this campaign, have played the game on a high plane. They have come as near as possible to guaranteeing to themselves the respect of those whom they have supported because of the fact that they are members of our race. They have refused to accept pay for their support of those whom they have backed to win. It is good that this is so, and whether the ticket supported by the majority of them wind or loses, they have maintained their self-respect and have seemed to consider their suffrage as the sacred right of those who like them least must give their credit for this fact.
Now, I am off for a trip down the Main Road. I have been to the Mary McLeod Bethune, one of the great women of the age now on us. It is demonstrating how I was the thing that must count. She is just busy all the time and I think she was
She was the first story of how she went to this place with just $1.60, and faith in God for this and before the school of gifts and programs for girls and believe me she won't be here. She was in the city and she was in the town of the city.
She was not in the town of the great institutions of the country with property worth half a million. She was very good at the work of this genius. Not long ago, the young lady became grown and married.
She was born in the Dayton-Cadillac Town, Condomines, Collegiate Institute for the school of the school of the world, and then they call it the world-think they call it the school of the world.
She was the one of the world's most famous men of the year. She was the pleasures of meeting many of her friends and the great women of the year. I was met at stable by Prof. Harbour of Texas, and Miss Willibald, the other of the others, and was when I reached the school, and was again sent to one.
She was the most beautiful woman in the world, and the most beautiful female. She was the pleasures of meeting many of her students, and for some reason, to them, and there was ready for me an automobile car carrading distance of 80 miles about the main station on the way. Mercereto, it has been true, not only in city elections, but in all elections, that the party guaranteeing to the would-be leaders in politics among our people the greatest number of votes, that the party received their unqualified support. When the money gave out, they usually quit. This policy, faithfully followed for the greater number of the years that Negroes have had the city rights, that the city's civic unrightness of the group, and leaders of parties have grown to feel that that was the only plane upon which the Negro should be dealt with in elections. Thus, it has happened that the political power of the Negro has been a great success, and that it has proven. It was natural that this should be the case, and it was a thing that the group had only its leaders to thank for.
Dr. Hill was smoking out some more letters telling the Daptel young people of America about the meet-in of the Conversas to be held in Wichita, June 27, 28. He is telling about how ready things are, and the Kansas people are going to give them one more big time. It will be the time of your life, if you should get, there and I hope you will. Dr. Hill told me around a little time to see the town and then there came to me Rev. A.P. Smart, and I will have to talk about him later, also the Rev. Mr. Johnson, who is working side by side with Rev. Smart.
I spent the night and then back to Daytona, and this place. The Rev. A. On the one side, we have the champions of the Nordic theory declaring that the Nordics are subprior—which reminds us straightway that Italy and Greece and Japan (to go no farther) have made some rather noteworthy contributions to human progress. Then we read something like this is a recent issue of the Nation: "Hibellon and science rest on foundations laid down by non-Nordics." We non-Nordics have it all over the Nordics—and reading, are impressed immediately with the great achievements of the Nordic people. A plague on both their houses—on the Nordics who think they are superior, and on the non-Nordics who in their zeal to defend themselves, make their zeal to defend themselves, make themselves out the east of the earth.

ing every possible precaution to preserve the integrity of the white race. Nor in the question of importance to the south alone. It is becoming more and more a national problem. Since the world was thousands of Negroes have gone from the South to the North. He then gives statistics. I will then take the next paragraph:
There is no doubt that the Negro is becoming more of the right to be the population of the nighthand as the Negro colonies increase, naturally they will draw more and more from the country. But the people are not neither of the children and western states are taught side by side in the present country. The's dissatisfaction of the Columbia and the states of Conpectieut, Illinois, Iowa, Kansas, Maine, Michigan, Massachusetts New Hampshire, Jersey, New Mexico, New York, Ohio, Rhode Island, Pennsylvania, Vermont, Washington and Wyoming, in importance of the race is permitted by law.
"In Virginia, we, have a law against mixed schools and our laws, are not as good as the race as could be made. We have a law requiring race preparation on public convenyness and to keep the races pretty well segregated is the residential district but powerful influence are all work."
The United States in the Southern states, as well as in the northern states, to wipe out the color line and place the names of the race to the absolute equality. And the ultimate aim of that movement is an amalgamation of the priorities of the negro by the childhood. And that must be the cherished ambition of the Negro race to use blood of the Anglo-obstacle. The child of the obstacle is characteristic of the forms and features. It has been said of the Negro race that it is trying to find itself. The fact is it is
This institution trains its students well in morals, manners and handicraft and there is not better behaved set of students in the United States, not one of whom. We are informed, has-ever been arrested for crime, or disorderly conduct. And the officers and teachers of this institution are men and women of high character and exemplary con-what. But all this enhances the danger which this article is designed to point out, and there is a still greater danger in the public schools. In most of the northern and western states white and Negro children are taught in the same schools by the same teachers without racial distinction. In some cases while children are taught by Colored teachers. The children of both races are thrown together on terms of perfect equality, they play together, they become "wals" and why not "sweethearts." That sort of association is apt to break down racial distinctions eventually and文学활성화 would follow as capillary.

The simplest and easiest way to introduce one person to a group is to state the stranger's name slowly and clearly enough so that all may understand it and then repeat to her the names of everyone present in order which they sit. For instance: Miss Stranger, may I present Miss White, Miss Miss Jones etc. throughout the entire circle. The thoughtful hostess will repeat the name of the stranger's time to time in case some of the guests have not caught it.
The stranger may acknowledge the first and possibly the second presentation with the conventional How do you Do? but after that it is sufficient merely to bow and smile cordially.
After the last introduction made, it is gracious to do something to include the stranger in the group, perhaps seat her beside one guest saying, "You and Mrs. Brown have so many mutual friends, I know that you will enjoy each other. Or she may merely say, "Wont you join us?" We were speaking about so and so. Without some such remark the introduction is incomplete and the stranger feel responsible for introducing each guest to the others. It is quite sufficient to introduce a newcomer to a few so that he feels himself
If a guest arrives late at a dinner party, it is not necessary to interrupt the entire gathering to introduce her to every one.
First seat her and then present her to those in her immediate vicinity. The introductions to the others may come later.
An introduction is quite correctly acknowledged by the simple How do you do at best a meaningfully phrase, and only justified by the manner in which we say it. Some say it so warmly and sincerely that we feel at once there is no friend. Others offer it with chilly reserve. The phrase is the first key the stranger has to our personality and our attitude toward him, so those four stilted words may convey everything or nothing.
The phrases are very glad to see you. The few, spoken too freely, real values and personal meanings. How many I say, I am happy to meet you. For me, "I want to say to you that when she learns my Intelligence, to though you are perfectly deserved to him so at the outset, circumstances alter cases. To my wife, father, father or chance of a friend, Professor. To my brother, Professor. To my daughter, delighted or charmed in acknowledging an introduction; there is no quiet rule, about temperament. Some people shake as some people smile more often, when introduced to you. When a man is presented to a lady, she pleases it is her privilege to say to her, "I want to say to you that
Women seldom shake hands when they meet each other. But all should avoid shaking hands when it is awkward to make the gesture, when it means reaching across the table or in front of other guest. Men usually rise when presented to each other and always when prægnosis to a lady. For women there is no rule. A woman does not rise to acknowledge an introduction to a man unless she is the hostess. In this capacity it is courteous to greet all her guests on her feet. Sometimes a woman rises to acknowledge the greeting of a woman other than herself, but unless the difference in age in marked the older woman may result this.
Even the most excelling society will say, "considerate, gracious thing." For the customs and rules exist only for this one purpose to do the considerate thing graciously. The secret of the charm of truly well mannered people is not the form, but the spirit behind the form.
