The Dallas Express Subscriptions in Advance NEW YEAR $2.50 MONTHS $2.50 EIGHT MONTHS $2.50 HOLLE COPY $2.50 REVIVING THE BUSINESS LEAGUE The Express has noted with a great deal of interest that a group of the business men of the city of League and that they are starting out to make of it the force in the league. And that they are starting badly needed. The Express hopes that this rethink will be the beacon of long life of a sort which the league has not heretofore enjoyed. It will be a testament to persevere it has resulted in failure and it has occurred in these failures it is to be bined at the door of those who have dived into the league determined; nor does it make much difference now that all of them are determined; mark them are past. The future of the league should concern us, and this new organization and its heads should be accorded the power of support which will bring the league. But there is no reason for the failure of those who now direct it, but the failure of those who past and to make the sort of mistakes which were responsible for the failure of the league should they be content to do more time and to be satisfied with a league in name only. The league should public all of the finance which it needs can no league at all. If business men can manage it, they have no business with the operation of their own company, they have no business with the operation of a knowledge of the fact that in- time past the league has made out of a knowledge of the fact that in- time past the league has made out of a knowledge of the membership fee, should it smalt and that the public should be approached with projects called necessary funds for operation. business men are either business men indeed or they are men in business, in making such but who are unwilling to make their share in making their business, in sorting of seeming liteness which requires them to be good at the larger appraisal, which have enabled them could have but gotten the larger vision. It is by chance that they may be able to accomplish there will be such an abundance of that sort of spirit that they will be able to both constantly and constantly. Talia means a real life and vivile existence, capable of being like being, in the hope of That with it, it will be done. There have been too many failures. Now if the there is much measure in the contemplation of the cooperative plastic effort which is soon to be shown to the church of the life to success. The script behind it is good. It is only to be hoped that their felt in greater quantity inward to a greater variety of the welfare of the group generally. There is much food for thought in the recently published statement of the Knights of Pythias of Texas as compared with other Fratral Orders operating within the State. Without consideration of its standing as compared with others the accomplishment of the Order under the leadership of Honorable W. S. Willis should be a source of extreme satisfaction to those who would guage the ability of fraternal concerns to expand sensibly and conservatively yet consistently. It is a fact that the story of the change of fortune of this Fraternity reads like a fairy story. Ten years ago it was an inconvenient today, its men alone have assets of more than $601,000 and its women have a treasury in excess of $200,000. Their total is well over three quarters of a million dollars and there is reason to feel that as time goes on and the principles of development continue, the goal set three years ago of a million dollars in assets and 50,000 members will become an actual fact. Things do not happen in this world accidently. Modern business procedure has proven it true that Sense behind Dollars makes a combination which guarantees growth of the substantial sort, and naturally guarantees that the benefits to those directly interested are greater than where there are dollars unbacked by careful planning and systematic handling. And it is well from time to time the public can have such ocular demonstrations of how our concerns are growing for the reason that the race needs to have it indisputably stamped within its consciousness that the day of "hit or miss" methods has passed, and that those who contribute to the welfare of cooperative concerns must receive and should demand such handling of their affairs as will result in this lasting good. In certain respects the present Grand Chancellor and his Board of Directors have been pace makers in Texas in that, as far as records show, this Order was the first to institute Drives for Membership which, carefully sifting them as to insurability at the same time offered to the masses of our people an opportunity for efficient protection well within their means. Its importance to this Order has made it possible that its surplus be used in the aiding of members of the Order in financing homes and creating those institutions of service which tend to develop the race along other lines. Such procedure definitely justifies the study of business methods of the more modern sort. It proves the contention that our larger concerns are more important than the smaller systemsized more thoroughly. The fact that the Texas jurisdiction of Knights of Pythias stands at the fore-front of fraternal societies, at the same time that its statement gives satisfaction to those who glory in great achievement, should urge those interested in other concerns whether fraternal or otherwise to seek to know the secret of bickering that the greatest benefits may be had. Here in the National Capitals of Law Makers! Cradle of Liberty, world might take pattern should correspond to the situation of discrimination, residential and other departments of the government in the practice of segregation duty it is to up hold the Constitution and entitled to the right to be a bed of despair. It may be recognize in the action of these women self-respect, and yet that what it is to be hoped however, that they come a line of thought which will greater consideration of the rights of women of happiness. It may be consideration in regard to the things self-respect to which they are entitled. Other facts disclosed by the House in the effect that nearly one-half of all contained no books or music. Such is remedied by none but ourselves. Others face to the truth, whether a woman is a mark of weakness and brought which is capable of leading others to be welcomed. Thus only can men Over 200 Negro singers refused to appear in a musical program of the International Women's Conference in Washington a few days ago because of the fact that members of the race and representatives belonging to the Conference were Jim Crowed in the seating in the auditorium of the building. The movement of protest was led by Miss Helley Q. Brown and Mrs. Mary Bethune. The singers were under the direction of Henry L. Grant, Nantandell Dett, Roy Tibbs and others of National renown. In a statement Miss Brown declared that "We felt we could not submit to this ostracism, and though we had two hundred noted singers, when we found that the segregation existed, we could not be humiliated in the eyes of the foreign women who had come to believe that America was the land of the free and the home of the brave." It is unfortunate in more than a few ways that prejudice in America should cause such occasions as this in which the reputation of the nation is made to suffer and bitterness arises from more than a few sources. At times the constant recurrence of such situations almost provokes the wish that the declaration that this is a "land of the free and the home of the brave" be forgotten and that in its stead it should declare and be internationally understood that men are rated and are governed in accordance with the color of their skin, the texture of their hair and their ancestors must be accommodated in any scheme of recognition by accomplishment and ability. And the view that representative men and women of our race should be placed in possession of all of the facts regarding the arrangement as to their accommodation before such affairs are staged and that they be given opportunity to accept or reject invitations to appear on such occasions under such circumstances. It is shameful to contemplate the aspect that such an occurrence discloses. Here in The National Capital the supported Home of Law, Maker! Cradle of Liberty! Source of Justice! the spot from which examples of fairness from which the world might take pattern should come. Instead we have a hot bed of segregation, a constant recurrence of injustice in the action of the that and other protections in the department of the government themselves and seem accession in the practice of segregation by those whose sworn duty it is to up hold the Constitution which declares all men created and entitled to the right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. It may be said for Nordic America to recognize in the action of the things which concern their self-respect, and yet that what it was purely and simply. It is to be hoped however, that from this section there may come a line of thought which will lead in the future to a greater consideration of the rights of the race which these women represent and a willingness to allow for any sort of consideration in regard to the things which concern their self-respect to which they are entitled. Among other facts disclosed by the Housing Survey was one to the effect that nearly one-half of the Negro homes studied contained no books or music. Such condition though and can be remedied by none but ourselves. Culture must be cultivated. Unwillingness to face the truth, whether about one's self or one's congenia is a mark of weakness and it indicates a trend of thought which is capable of leading to a leaning toward suppression of the truth.
