EXTENSION WORK
AMONG NEGROES
Those who have any doubt to the effectiveness of the Work of the Extention Department in Texas have only to go out to the Matee County farm in practical home improvement and bettered farm methods which are on display there from the Matee County rural districts. There, one may discover drinking cakes made from cane amps, pots of water have been amped, foot wipers have been tops of soda water bottles and a sugar container made from burdash sugar from land lard sugar. Bottles made from corn shunks used for burdash sugar cost. These are the unusual juices coupled with then there is an posing display of practical garments made by the members of the Extention Department. Serves and canned goods of all kinds. The boys have on exhibit products, and it is said that there are cotton, milo maize and other products, milo maize and other products among the general exhibitions which were
This is a work which is apt to fall to arousing the interest and acclaim of other phases of work—among the boys and girls of the race, guilt and fear that it is all important in the race in future time. It indicates that those who now are learning the art of practicing and of practice—as well as economic housekeeping, with its standard of living and accumulate more readily than those who have not learned it. And if it is true that "driving" is tally, these young men and women will have large share in the race.

According to a statement sent out from the offices of The National Association, ninety women have been lynched by American mobs since 1859 for alleged offenses which ranged in seriousness from "making threats" and "searching for a brother" to murder and well poisoning. Mississippi leads all of the other states of the Union in the number of those lynched with a total of sixteen while Texas runs it a close second with a total of 11. Virginia, West Virginia and Wyoming have had only one each of such occurrences.
This statement, contained in the same release with a reprint of the story of the lynching of U. P. Ivy in Rocky Ford, Mississippi, and the picture of the lynching in Alabama, is imbued in the news-Senator on Monday, Sept 21, one of the most startling bits of argument offense against civilization, to be found. The frankness with which the facts are set forth in the case of the lynching is surprising, particularly as it comes from the pen of a Southern newspaper reporter who was an eye witness to the burning of the factories. The factories are exaggerated, there comes the wonder that such things can happen in a country which is boastful all over the world of its civilization and culture. To a reader who knows nothing of America, and particularly of the South, there must come a feeling of horrors and repugnance as great in intensity and as justifiable as that which can be witnessed in Belgium of the Turkish persecutions of the Armenians.
But to every reader, wherever he may be, there should come a determination to aid in every way, the drive against this lawlessness which hopes to reap success in the passage of a Federal law against this evil. And, there can be no doubt of the need of a Federal law when the story under caption of "Mob Member laugh at Probe" is read. Uttter
is not only natural but sensible. Where such men tell without hesitation of the arrangements made with sheriff's "to overpower" them, and where "nobody is mad about 44"; where the public opinion necessary to cause a cessation of this savagey, the government itself must be awakened to the necessity for action. Politics, economic pressure, as well as public opinion must be grounded to the point that the Republican majority in Congress will see the necessity for this action. There is no reason to speak of anything but a Republican Congress in connection with the passage of such a law for it is a well known fact that a thing would not be possible for Democrats even though there were those
members of the race who hope in time to come for a cessation of this evil may as well come to the realization of the fact that it is up to them to create the desire for it in the minds of those who are able to bring it to pass. Not only is this a great challenge, but it is also a driving by all means possible to bring it properly to the notice of the public, but money in sufficiently large amounts must be furnished them. It is the fight of the whole race. If this fight is lost, not only is civilization in the process of being destroyed, but the hopes for the race in the future may as well be consigned to the region of blasted ambitions. As long as lynching continues without any punishment to follow and segregation grows each year in intensity, there is no reason to hope for acceptable contribution to society by members of the race. This is the freedom. Lunching and its kindred evils limit freedom.
America has lynched ninety women, thirteen of them white, and many hundred men, many of them white. How long will it continue? How can the nation thrive as long as this thing continues?
THE K. OF P. PUBLICITY BUS
According to the statement of Grand Chancellor Willis the new bus of the Knights of Pythias will go into the rural districts carrying, in addition to the message of that organization, the message of the Negroes in the state. He states that he feels that those things need to be known among those masses who live away from the main travelled roads. This conception only adds hustle to the already large population for progressive procedure which is already a part of the mission of the Negroes in the state who are in his cabinet and this latest proposal seems to open up to that lodge a large bit of tectility which is almost virgin as far as fraternities are concerned. From the standpoint of the Negroes it is good. But the great good to come from this proposal, in the opinion of The Express is to come to those to whom this bus will go. And there is great satisfaction in the idea that those who are promoting this venture realize that their service to be really effective, must be unselfish enough to be able to do it.
HOW MANY OTHERS HAVE THERE BEEN?
A news item tucked away in an inconspicuous place in a daily paper told of the fact that the post mortem examination of the body of a man supposed to have been murdered, the body of a bank robber who had blackened his face for the purpose of appearing as a Negro. This was in Maryland. In Nashville, for several weeks there has been a great deal of speculation that the man murdered who has been attacking women and killing others has been arrested on suspicion and one was being held in connection with the crimes when the attacks were renewed and in the struggle of one woman with the friend, some of whom were killed. Occasions such as this give reason for the question of how many of such cases have there been before. How many of the crimes supposed to have been committed by black men, have been committed by white men blackened? To what extent is the reputation of the Negro race for criminology due to the fact that such things have been the case before?
Several weeks ago, the members of the white press of the South in convention adopted several resolutions calling for greater fairness in the dissemination of news. They indicated their desire to see to it that no injury was done any time soon. They also demanded that on some fact. Here, it seems would be a fine place for them to begin. Where some person has been attacked in the darkness and they have only an impression of "a dark form," let them cease to publish in bold headlines "Attack by Big Burly Negro" and the other well known captions of that type. They also demanded that there be realism and that there are many ways in which white forms may be darkened and that in many proven cases, white forms have been darkened for the purpose of making use of the ever present desire to make the Negro appeal guilty and add further to his already large burden of living

Wiley College and Langston University Play Hard Fought Game to Scoreless Tie.
STUBBORN DEFENSE SAVES WILEY FROM DEFEAT
IN THE LAST MINUTES OF PLAY
DALLAS, TEXAS, Oct. 24—One of the greatest clashes in College football was played at the State Fair Stadium Monday between the Wiley Cats and Langston University Tigers.
A special train, pulling twelve coaches arrived at the Fair grounds Monday morning with the Wiley boosters whose mission was to help defend the colors of their school. The Wiley band护铯ed Central Avenue in an effort to let those who did not know that the Wild Cats, and Tigers would meet that afternoon.
The Langston Rooters were few but loud and made them laugh. The Tigers came on the field at 3:30 o'clock as the 2000 or more fans rose and gave them a loud welcome. Following close on their heels the Wild Cats entered as their hand played college melodies and the crowd went wild. Wiley won the loss and as Cavil kicked the old game was the winner. The Tigers went tweet Johnson of Langston and Cavil of Wiley with Johnson having the better of the contest, his puns averaging 50 yards or more. His punting kept the pig skin on Wiley 30 and 40 yard line practically the entire game.
Neither team displayed much in the first or second quarter as they both were trying the other out. Few gains were made by hitting the line and only a few passes were attempted.
The Tigers came back in the second half determined to sweep the Wild Cats off their feet. The third quarter brought forth the best that both teams had and the consistency Johnson was a thing long to be remembered by both players and fans.
The end runs by Miller, quarter-back for Wiley, aided by the interference of Scott, Lorden and Cavil proved that Wiley has a hack field that is second to none and that they form a back-field that should be one of the fastest in the game.
The onslaughther of the Tiger would not be denied and after continued tipping of Wiley's line, aided by a pass and an end run which netted 20 or more yards they brought the ball to Wiley's 5-yard line and first down, on the next play, which was the thriller of the game. Johnson attempted to drop kick, but his line weaken and Brown, Wiley'sull-back, rolled down the field away from Wiley's goal. This was Langston's only chance to score as the game ended with Cavil and Johnson trying to out kick each other as they did at the start.
Captain William is left end and Johnson, full-back were the main attackers on Langston's game while the line as a whole was a stone wall on the defense. Cavil, full-back; Brown, left-end; Lorden, right-half and Redd left-back were the main-stays in Wiley's bull-dog assaults by Miller, whose swiftness threaten to change the tide of the battle several times.
Milton's line up is William, left-end, (Cavil). Smith left-tackle; the main-stays in Lorden, right-half; Troop, right-tackle; Newton, right-end; Moose, quarter-back; Harris, right-half; Anderson, left-half; Johnson, full-back.
Wiley's line up: Herbert, right-end; Livingston, right-tackle; Wade, right-end; Dyer, center; Redd, left-guard; Kimmon, left-tackle; Miller, quarter-back; Brown, left-end; Rodney, right-half; McMillan, (Capl.) left-calf; Cavil, full-back.
Referee—Mumphus; Umpire; Hucles; Head Linesman,
Williams; Field Judge, Johnson.
