Cleveland's chief of police, Jacob Graul, was injured in the investigation which followed the follOng of the second attempt to bomb One newly-built home of Dr. C. H. Garvin, in the exclusive Wade Park district, Garvin's white neighbors object to his realities. The first bombing occurred January 30, last. One morning this week Dr. Garvin discovered a train can, one foot high, and eight inches in diameter, sealed across the top with far, on his front portrait. He notes that the police department was his return. The staff, feet in length which was reached to the can was found by police to be defective. Chief Graul first took the train to the city chemist's office for a test, but the chemist refused to touch it. Later workmen for a powder company refused to handle it. So Graul decided to find out himself whether it was a real bomb. He went to the lake front, put the bomb in a box and floated it about forty feet off short. First he shot at it with a 22 caliber target pistol, but nothing happened. Then he fired with his .88 pistol. At the first shot a gayer of water shot eighty feet in the air. If our real men of business endeavor—it men of vision, If men who brookain to be for Negro pro-graves, If men believe in the positive results of institutions, organizations and establishments of effectiveness, If organized committees are steps for offering grams for manifested results in problems of our city-welfare can be successfully directed. If an economical basis among our racial group can be awakened to the heart beat of youth and adults—THEN let there be that operation of mutual co-operation. Then if that is almost exactly qualified spirit among each one of us be thrown upon the altar for a greater faith, a devotee confidence of adventures and a sermon preached that will be so spiritualized of the great needs and betterment of our future there shall be that spirit built upon the simple foundation of a better home life a greater school of preparation, a stronger social life for up-lift, a moral and physical development, a human career of capitalization, civil movements and economic basis that shall be the basic principle of consciousness of men in our great city of Dallas.
