REPORT OF COLORED NURSE
Dallas Tuberculosis Association.
June, 1956
I held four clinics on the southside this month, the neighborhood, very much interested, 15 cases came to me, 2 cases and 2 cases of pregnancy, 2 cases of very hard teeth and 4 cases where a child was ill. I had 2 cases of colitis, 4 adults were re-examined. The scale question on the southside seems to be at a standpoint. The india has gone away, and I am reliving the infant welfare of the children. I have held three clinics already and I have one more to hold before I have held three clinics already. I have five sick children at this clinic during the last three weeks. The work is very interested.
I do not feel at all good about some of my patients this month. I cared little smith a 24 year old woman after school, an afternoon, and he came back home Monday morning. He is now living here where he wishes. I do not know where he lives, but I cultivate. I have only known him two weeks. He says he has been about two months. He is not about two months. He is not care of the care. I am told his only dependence is a great grandmother. I reported this case to Mr. Andrew.

which they were interested in, etc. In one city a meeting was held, and all the residents came to those people with their appeal. The answers were to the effect that "our money now would do as much good as your infant would have in all of the instances in which members of the race were mistaken in their influence then you cannot get our money now." And there the case rested and some of those banks failed. Of course there is little satisfaction in "getting even." We said satisfaction but we should have said "fearlessness." We great deal of fearlessness and the Florida bank gave to those members of the race a great opportunity to "get even." But the battering of the conditions under which Negro teachers work can come, only through organization of the closest sort. Collective bargaining must be a greater way than it has been in times past, and the association seems now to offer the way to this attainment. The express purpose for an increase in the enrollment this year as well as for the crystallization of sentiment for a more progressive program than marked it in times past. It hopes further that all of the machinery necessary to its operation as a large concern may be so definitely arranged as to allow for its in a more efficient manner than ever before. The choice of Waco, in the opinion of the Executive, fortunate. It is easy of access and it is the reason for the meeting in a carry itself without learing on any other organization and its disposition to become a self determining body is by no means to be censured.

FLORIDA BANKS AND SNORE DEPOSITORS
News dispatches of last week stated that when the condition of several of the cases presented, their presidents, the governors, apples, appealed, to the wealthy Negroes of the guees in which they were located for aid in the matter of deposits, etc. In one city a mass meeting and the people to those who were with their appeal. The answers were to the effect that "our money would do you as much good as your influence would have in your life," and the members of our people were mislead. Thus they could not get your influence then, you cannot get our money now. And there the case rested and some of the members of our people there is little satisfaction in "setting even." We said satisfaction, we should have said "offense." There is a great deal of satisfaction and the ease of these cases in the race of the race and the opportunity to "get even."
But there can be no doubt but that the case of the cities in which these institutions were in sadden now that it should have been hard to do them two things the Negroes for not agreeing to make deposits at that time. That was exactly the time when their deposits should not have been made for they would only have given some of their good money to go after a great deal and good money to get it was foot. But the Negroes cannot for bear a thought of how much better those cities would have had fear if the Negroes if they could have reason to feel that their influence, that their interest in the general
In the account of the recent meeting of the Federation of Colored Womens Clubs which closed its twenty-first annual session a few days ago, there was no mention of the project on which it was working some time ago and which all of Texas has watched with more than the ordinary amount of interest. More than three years ago, the represen- tation of the project in San Antonio, decided to undertake the establishment of a home for the delinquent Negro girls of the state and during that meeting, agreed to the purchase of a plot of ground near the city of San Antonio. It is understood that that contract is still in effect but the scarcity of as to the progress of the organization in this regard prompts The Express in its question as to the fate of the project.
It was a weighty undertaking in the first place but one which, in the judgment of this journal, that organization could have handled with ease. It was a thing which badly needed in this state for the progress of the organization to state the case mildly. And further, the project was one in which all of the members of the race in the state could have joined heartily as far as its support, both moral and financial was concerned.
The Express hopes that in the case of this project of the Federation "no news is good news" and that it is progressing as well as could be hoped for. It is a thing which can be done by the organization, and the establishment will be a source of pride to the whole state as well as a means of giving to the organization which needs it and is anxiously awaiting some knowledge of progress. The Federation is general public for the project constitutes, in the minds of many, the largest of the worthwhile things which are in-the-program of the organization.
THE TEACHERS OF TEXAS CHOOSE WACO FOR A MEETING PLACE
Without a dissenting vote the executive committee of the State Association of Colorado Texas chose Waco as the place for this year. This choice was the result in the history of the association, as far as can be determined, that it has ever held its meeting in a place where the white association was not meeting. The reason given being the good one to the effect, times past the Colored association has allowed railroad and railway speakers of the more important members, and that this arrangement was necessary. With the registration last year of more than 1800 members and the collection of nearly $2,000, the association leaped out of the feeble class and assumed proportions which were really a credit for gratification at the showing meet. There is more to gratification at the showing meet and that showing is, at the same time, an indication of the real possibility of the organization when it functions as it should in the state. There are more than 5,000 teachers, in the state, all of whom are proachers of members of the association and are prepared to teach. This has reached its limits as far as membership is concerned. And too, there is another consideration much more important, in the opinion of The Express than the registration of members. It is the creation of a different atmosphere in the ranks of themselves and the establishment of higher standards for those to whom the sacred duty of teaching and directing the
Texas, as far as culture is concerned, can afford to bend all of its energies in this direction for the next generation without in any way feeling that any energy has been added. And to its teachers most other groups come the duties of teaching standards. Children must be to guide them young with all of the ideals and ideas which are to guide them in later life and it is through the school that this can best be done.
But teachers who, themselves have, few standards even of the lesser sort can do little to mingle these standards. Poorly paid teachers must instill the love of good things in the children who come to them for them, having none of these good things themselves, they can do little toward causing others to want them. Teachers who know little of the correct use of learning time properly. And so on. They must use their time properly. And so on. They must use their things which are called worthless might be mentioned and all

as to the people, parts of their own race who occupy enviable positions, both as to business and finance. Dallas is the logical place for the next meeting of the National Negro Business League and Dallas with the help of the rest of Texas should go after it and get it.
Detroit will spend $10,000 in the making of a survey which, it is hoped will point the way to bettered relations between the races in that city. It is assumed that this is the affairment of the Sweet trial. The good sense of the city commission in having this survey made it to be com-mended but it is yet to be seen that the results of the survey will be as large as they should. It takes more than the ordinary amount of courage possessed by members of the other group, to carry out a program of improvement as pointed out by actual facts.

CHOLERA INFANTUM
by Dr. Arthur L. Forster
More than ten per cent of all babies fall during the first year of life. Deaths are due to diseases of the digestive system. Of these, the most serious is cholera infantum, which occurs during the month of July. Cholera infantum occurs regularly each summer and, although out of contact with the infant, does not promptly dispose of and diaper washed so files, not some in contact with the infant, and caring for the sick infant should wash their hands after each time they handle the infant.
