For many years the greatest criticism has been that there may have been some misunderstanding of the work of the league, even by its most ardent supporters has been its lack of directed program. It has been pointed out that its meetings each year have been the start of the autumn growth of the events of that day. There is MEMBER NATIONAL NEGRO PRESS ASSOCIATION. Published, every Saturday Morning in the Year at 2660 Swiss Region. FILLING THE BATTLE OF SAN JUMP HILL, WITHOUT NEGRO THOOPS News dispatches from Hollywood in California, tell of the team that won the Lucky Players who are bound for San Antonio, where they will play in the playoffs under title of "The Rough Elder"; but in the same, dispatches it is hitted that the batting team was assigned mass Negro troops. Only one Negro is included in the cast and he has been assigned the part of According to the reports of the meeting of the National Negro Business League which just closed in Cleveland, its accomplishments this year are in excess of those of the National Business League, and its nineteen direction and far program as outlined in the news dispatches gives more evidence of being of the sort to be expected of such a gathering. Among the definite assur- who saved the day at Juan Bilbao budget and the underwriting of the budget by those presen- made lasting American bi- ciment. It is understood that the amount is $10,000. This tertiary by their port of the Spanish city of Valencia is to be used for the furtherance of the organiza- tion work of the national league and for the employment of experts to serve the various business concern of the race and the registration for the themselves in need of specialized service of various sorts. Two of the best known flares of American public service are the national league, the national league will serve as the parent body of a series of local leagues in every city in the country and its annual meetings will be more like the annual meetings of grand lodges than it now is. Its whole membership will be made up of representative of these local bodies instead of the general American public, and it will screen lover, idol of hunter, dread of thousands, though young men would be greater than under any circumstance could have been imprinted of President Emmanuel Eliot of the United States. It will assume a direction predicated upon the needs of the scholar and student whose contribution to American culture was made in his time, and its creative rather than inspirational purely as it now is. It will in reality be a movement like the National Chamber of other man of his time. Newspaper gave to each such mention, deserved an actual HIT camera, for the movie spectacular and his skewed following, was certainly the most interesting, because of the visible odences of sorrow which will be That progress has been made in the arrangement of the budget for this year cannot be denied and there is room for definite hope that the money may be speedily forthcoming so that the workers of the organization may get on the field at once and begin the work of actual organization, in which the actual improvement of the business of the race as such. already on the great educator of the city, the need of police警务 to keep hare threws of the suppressing citizens who attend the prosecution, and last services over Valention. Thousands were in his places, the places he will be send scrambling for four attempts of his bid. And why the According to an article in the August "Crisis," more than 8500 Negro students were enrolled last year in American colleges and universities, over 7000 of this number being in Negro colleges and 1600 in white institutions. The number of Negro students enrolled in the university received the degree of Master of Arts, 519 that of Doctor of Arts and 173 that of Bachelor of Science. There were 100 graduates in medicine, 72 in dentistry, 38 in pharmacy, 87 in law and 47 in theology. In addition the Northern universities conferred degrees on about 500 Negro students, and the number was about three times as great, as that of fifty years ago. Does it mean that the love of sensation is a human woman? Indeed and that the most Western world must always be discovered, for the masses after their bedside have grown cold in death? Does it mean that those whose work is of the more lasting and to think to rep. alwes alwet? Or does it mean that America is just a wicky-minded, fervidous sort of a nation that follows the dictates of its culture? Certainly the differences to the manner of living of these and the evident differences. In the size of their following gives room to wonder. when the well trained Trained will be as often seen as the well trained member of any other race. He will be in training in still another way for they show that there is a dearth of those who are being attracted to the study of theology. Only 47 graduates in theology gives evidence of a dearth of well trained ministers for the future and a corresponding lack of good churches in time to come. And it seems rather reminiscent, when the religious techniques of the race are taken into consideration, that the average layman's life and their life's work are so scare. There must be a reason but the mind of the average layman is unable to find it by a casual survey of present day church life. He sees only the paucity of reni spiritual life among the many denominations of the race and he thinks of the opportunity for real service which the layman can offer to the poor and their fellow men. He can only presume that little encouragement is given to the well trained men who have entrusted the ministry and he must peice together the studied and consistent attempts at pushing back the forward looking youths. But that there must be a condition akin to this in some or no churches or the inn is amply evidenced by the young men with whom one may meet from time to time. There is still room for as many doctors as may come from American schools each year. Well trained teachers were never more in demand and the field of dentistry, as far as the Negro is concerned is still almost virgin. But that of the ministry is crying for entreatie. The raid of those entering the various professions must be changed if we are to have a well balanced educated class. Dallas may get the next meeting of the National Negro Business League. That we have gathered and the efficient entertainment of it will require much work and some sacrifice. The business men have united in inviting it. Here's hoping that Dallas may prepare early to live up to its reputation as host. The Road To Better Health One of the most successful excursions every taken out of Dallas was managed by the John P. Stark's Memorial Lodge of Elks last week. More than three hundred and fifty-person excursions were held in Kansas City and returned on Wednesday evening and enjoyed to the full all of the courtesies and comforts which the Santa Fe route had to offer in the way of travel accommodations. It is estimated that the total amount of paid on this trip was, about $4,500. It is noteworthy that Kansas City is longer than the Katy, was used rather than the Katy, which, by the way, has enjoyed more Negro patronage in convention times than any other road in Texas. The reason for this is that the officials of the Katy refused to consider any excursion proposition from the Elks, though, when the Elks trip had been arranged, it ran over excursion to the same city on the same date for Negroes. There is good for much thought in this occurrence and there is room for some decision in the future to seek the connections with these institutions, railroads especially, which offer to cur people the greatest amount of consideration for placing their money where we get the greatest amount of consideration. And The Express now feels that the M. K. T. road, by this action in the matter of the Elks excursion, by putting on a counter attraction after having refused to discuss the matter with the officials of that lodge, has forfeited its right to the sort of consideration received from the movements of Negroes in former times. The matter of Negro travel on railroads is a matter of grave concern at the best. Jim Crow laws, lack of accommodations for cleanliness while travelling, the necessity for a bus or train to be on the side of the conductor in the mesmer space reserved for Negroes, all militate against Negro travel except in the most necessary of times. And that, coupled with all of the discomforts which must be undergone, there should be agreement on the conductor's role in the discomfits, sea uninhabitable. In future time it will be well for Negroes to hear this in mind especially, as it concerne the M. K. T. railway which has been our first choice.
