As this is read, the old year will have passed into history and another and untouched twelve months will be beginning for every human being on earth. In many respects for many individuals, and groups the old year was by no means forgotten, and the old year has things to its credit which the end of the last old year could have by no means foretold. In matters political there was little accomplished and there was probably something lost. But in matters civic industrial and financial there was much of which to be proud. It was the old year, its record should be ebullied by far by the new. This twelve months, as far as things racial are concerned should be remarkable among all years for the increased determination with which every problem is attacked and the cooperation which marks the approach to every program which is instituted. And that cooperation is the determination to this effect on the part of every individual within the race. This year must witness more of actual being and loss of the seeming to be. There must be a definite contribution on the part of every one to the actual thing which is to be accomplished and less of the well known disasters which are to be with "with" credit for work which has not been performed.
And the desire for better things as well as the determination to get better things must be radiated upon a greater and more actual realization of the fact that Negroes are as other men. Too long the inferiority complex keep us from the obtaining of the things which all Negroes have been taught to believe, and totally felt that "anything was good enough for nigger", and in that faith we have bowed our necks to blows, which should have been met with faces forward and all energies bent to the adversary. Of course it is true that we have been inoculated with this complex and all of its deadly and paralyxing influence as such much with conscious intent by the Negroes, and that reason to feel that all of the desire that this process continue is not dead. But with the added information and experiences of the years just passed and with the heartening improvements which are everywhere to be noted as much in our thinking of ourselves as in the thinking of others concerning us, there is reason to be sure that the days of our submission to inferior thoughts has passed or shall pass.
Nor should there be hesitancy in branding as false all of the hindering doctrines with which our own leaders have sought to impregnate use. Poverty in religion and at the same time too great expense in the building of churches, schools, and hospitals, has led to the introduction of philosophy. A direction toward educational poverty when the actual conditions under which we live demand that if anything, our training should be of a superior grade to that of any other class of Americans. A philosophy which would place false emphasis on the filosophy and trivial with which we are accustomed to deal with the all-embracing philosophy which very often is heard from the lips of those who are in places of leadership to the effect that "somethings are not for Negroes," meaning by these things, the more cultural and enlightening. All of such philosophy must be consciously relegated to the object of the study. The most important of its stead must come the courantous determination to be and to become all that human and spiritual capacities will warrant in this country where freedom is the right of every man and group. Such is the spirit with which the Ex-Christian Church year 1981 and the spirit which it would commend to each of its readers and the public in general.
THE ELKS, THE CONSTITUTION AND ORATORICAL
CONTESTS
Because of the fact that the Benevolent Protective Order of Elks is little known as yet in Texas despite the fact that there are several lodges in existence in the state. The Express feels that there may be danger that what it concludes to be the case is that the increase of increasing racial consciousness, may be overlooked by the general public. That latter has inaugurated a series of oratorical contexts based on The Constitution of this Country and if has centered conically on the 13th, 14th and 15th editions of every New school chid and is urging that special oratorical contexts be staged on subject drawn from this study.

THE MIRROR

PUBLIC OPINION
Lycoming, which is in the last two years have shown a greatifying increase in the United States. One of the most horrible crimes in recent three, Nigelson in South Carolina, the jail and kill, although one of them has just been declared over once again, one a woman, had been granted bail, a trial it is allowed but not permitted in this crime. The public authorities of South Carolina were as usual in the National Association for the Prevention of Crime later the New York World rumbled them into action. It is yet too many to count, and enough and decency enough. South Carolina to bring the Lycoming.
In view of these facts and others like them it is high time to revive the Constitution, the law, the justice. It would, of course, be better when the States had taken care of this matter. A federal law should be enacted, and those thieves — if American citizenship makes adopting it make the right United States to be bound to guarantee the previous agreement, the previous agreement for the Draft and-implementing Bill in Congress provoked in the South. This time support should be given to the rooms for section feeling in this matter, so can the North be held longer than thou attends. All of us lay descent must attend a meeting of the United States a disagree which is not shared by the most backward系
