WHAT WE THINK ABOUT THE LETTER OF REVEREND DICKSON Brother Dickson took up a great deal of our space last week on this page saying what, in our opinion, amounted to next to nothing. He attempted to cover too much ground and his pronouncements ran all the way from an inquiry So He Did Not Serve On The Jury. And He Got No Pay An irritant vouched for by several competent and relatable persons of both races serve to inflate that every one, we really do not feel an we declare that we do and that the our inferiority You declare that the Express is not cutting its way through all of the perplexing questions which arise. We might remark, neither has the church nor is it, nor are any of all of the many institutions which should reform the church. You are disgusted with the social life of Dallas. You are disgusted with the social life of Dallas. You are finding fault with Sunday funerals. You are discussing labor unions unfavorably. You complain about the lack of family life. About the only complimentary thing which you had to do was to thank the Commerce and that statement was short indeed. The story runs thus: A well known Nord business man of that day's days is along with another man of the same status. Both reported on the same moving. But the Norwegian man was not wanted anyway, told the person in charge that "some men and I know you do not want him" and I know you do not want them. The other man made no such statements and stood with the feet that he was ready to serve. He did not receive opportunity to serve in the jurysum. He was in attendance as the rector. The Exercises realizes the full extent of the feeling with which summaries and it understands also that no Nero has ever served on a court. It is able to learn. But it does not feel that the time will never be long enough for the pleasure of the process. It further feels that it should be able to qualify for a citizen who is qualified, has the right and the opportunity to IL. It learns that the qualifier all of the embarrassments necessary to convince even casual that he does have such rights, in that he can be educated and that all that he possesses process it. But it contends that Nero can really need help. He can be more of such experience that they stand ready to serve. Certainly they must convince them that in addition to their business he has made it. Then probably they must convince them that in addition to their business he could be duplicated many times. Many of us do business that we do. Therefore we do and THE DALLAS EXPRESS, DALLAS, TEXAS, SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 11, 1928 Ft. Worth District Notes J. H. JENKIN, P. E. Mr. and Mrs. Harriet Welch Howe overed by Their Church, The Mar- ies and Citizens of Wichita There have been no monumental blunders made by Negro lawyers in Texas which could be held responsible, for the condition which the Express understands is to be found in the race in this state. Certainly if we take the actual records for the basis for our reasoning, it would seem to be true that Negro lawyers had so conducted themselves as to gain the everlasting patronage and commendation of every member of the race. The beginning of the agitation against the Democratic Primary in Texas was begun and pushed to The Supreme Court in the first instance by a Negro lawyer at his own expense largely. One of the most famous cases in the history of Negro law was at the insistence of a Negro lawyer and it is still talked of in all legal circles. But in spite of all of the records it is literally true that with a single exception in Texas, no Negro lawyers are employed by any of the concerns of a state wide mature within the state. A. B. HON. And all of this is said in the most kindly of sentiments and with no rancor at all. TEXAS-MINISTERS ON THE GENERAL CONFERENCE Two articles appeared in this journal last week which should challenge the attention of every layman of whatever denomination he is. They have to do with the A. M. E. Church as such, and were written by Reverend Bunting and Smith of this city, but the analysis of the conditions which are complained of should be of interest to everyone for these conditions are apparently common to all churches of the present day. Lack of program for present-day churches is a serious problem. Certainly the Negro church needs to think carefully through the crisism which now faces it and which is to be recognized by the falling off in membership and in the general apathy with which its appaise are received by the general public. Discount is not so. So is politics. Social and Christian results are miserable. Something must be done. And the church will be fortunate indeed if it decides to confront the problems which these ministers are facing. beauty, color, coverer chalk, and bodies with flowers, such as a glorious sight we have never seen before. WILD CATS STOP BEARS MARSHALL Texas. Feb. 11 - Staging a descent late minute rally, the Wiley Wildcats heat the Bishop Bears in one of the most thrilling basket ball games seen in Marshall by the score of 38-31. A capacity crowd, that filled every nook and court of the Wiley Refectory, cheered their favorites, as first one and then the other of the ancient rivals took the lead in a thrilling see-saw game. Wiley started with a rush and piled up a commanding lead, but a great spurt by the Bears put them out in front with a 26-22 lead at the half. The fans who saw a fast first half were yet to see the real battle, as the longer game went, the race became more terrific, and the guarding of both teams was superb. "With five minutes to play Bishop maintained a 28-26 lead. Pretty team work gave Richmond an opportunity to tie the county 28, all to have Washington break loose with a pretty pivoting shot from a corner to put Bishop in the lead 30-24 with two minutes to play. Long shots from midfield by Faint and Miller put the Cats out in front to stay, and Richmond added a free throw for Wiley and Washington the high point man of the game. The former Texarkana star led the charges of Coach Mammond in grand style and played the game of his life, sinking seven field goals and five free throws. Captain Briggs led the Wildcats attack with five from the field and two from the fifteen foot line. Wiley meets Texas College here next Friday night. I. Johnson, the Conference Chairman and "high-ups" realizing that the emmity was con- flicted gently against Him leaving there. Tie in Heaven, so in Earth. Mat- tition of the Sunday School H Sunday, Feb. 12, 1928 Golden Texts—The Kingdom Come. Thy Will Be Bone; as in Heaven, so in Earth. Matthew 6:10 An exposition of the Sunday School Lesson for (By CHAS. W. ABINGTON) 1- Jesus Teaching at The Sea Slide Our lesson today is from the chapter of many parables. thrown upon the road, and in some cases the seed fell upon the hard earth fully exposed to the birds. This represents the power of nature to bring life to the earth to it, the devil keeps them occupied with other things. Then other "fell in stony ground." In plowing the loess soil was thrown upon the rocks and in sowing seed fell in it, and soon came up and offered promise of wondrous things. It is the soil that it fell in, it is soon withered and died. This represents the class who come into the Church during a great excitement and try to do everything at once, but soon fall away—the fall ground of the heart was never broken. Those seeds fell in it, and soon grew into a world of the world to choke them. The encouraging feature of the parable, some seed fell in good ground bringing fruit thirsty, sick and a hardened form. It is comforting to the true sower to know that some results will come from his labor. Kingdom building is a partnership affair—the Master shows us in this lesson just what man's part is—preparing the ground and sowing and reaping when the harvest is ready. The master teaches us the patience command and sow the grain he "should sleep and rise night and day." Go on about other duties forgetting the seed. It grows of itself. "The earth bearest fruit of itself." The seed has life in itself implanted there by its Great Creator which is to the wisest man a mystery. When the seed is planted in the soil, the satisfied earthman originate life or force growth. God has intruded to man many of nature's secrets but not the secret of life. He says there are germinating energies in soil that stir the seed to activity, acting in harmony with the environment to produce life—but that is as far as our wise man can go. Paul may plant, Appolies may water, God only can give the increase. **III.-The Mustard Seed** Joseph saw the seed of Heaven to a mustard seed, not the smallest seed known to botany—but the smallest known to those to whom He was speaking—the lesson is, that it was small but it was not cast away on that account but it was sown in the ground with as much care as the larger seed and in due time it grew and became larger. It was planted in the soil and seed for food. We are not to despair the day of small things, nor small things themselves. We are told that an atom is no small that the most powerful microscope known to science has never been able to make it visible to the human eye. The hardiness of the material's durability is constructed. How thy and insignificant is the snow flake—lighter than a feather, and yet plied up in our western and northern sections and they tie up traffic at times for weeks, while one riding through the Rocky Mountains drives from those little atoms. The giant Redwood which has stood for thousands of years started from a small seed. A man-planted one grain-of-corn and cultivated it and at harvest time it produced two full ears, he planted them and dried them in the husk, and so on until five hundred bushels was the yield. IV—The Growth of The Kingdom of Heaven A babe born of humble peasants in a stable nineteen hundred twenty-eight years ago was the beginning of Christian Church in the Kingdom of Heaven. He started telling about His mission on earth—they laughed Him to scorn at first, and as powerful works showed forth themselves in Him they began to destroy Him, and never stopped until He died on the cross. But like the seed sown in the earth He had life in Himself and came forth from the sleep of death, and he was able to teach the new religion to a few ignorant men who were timed and afraid. But on the wonderful day of Pentecost they became transformed men—all fear and timidism of God. Despite the determined effort of the great Roman Empire, at the time mistress of the world, to crush out the new religion it continued its way amid all kind of persecutions—it gradually made its way among all and great until it captured the Emperor banser. V—Present Day Feers Not Well Founded Much is being said about the growing tide of crime, which should concern every Christian, it should urge him to love him* best and do his best to turn the tide in the way of righteousness. It is the greatest enemy of the Kingdom of God—despite all that comes it must continue to grow. At the close of the first Christian century 500,000 had accepted Jesus. At the close of the first quarter of the present century 500,000, were marching under the banner of Christ. The Roman Empire has crumbled, and all the mighty powers which strugged against the Empire have been defeated since then—the Kingdom of the lowly Nazerene is more vigorous after almost twenty centuries than ever.
