TAUGHT AT THE UN
CHARITY WARD
After paying the Union hospital a visit and adding the wonderful result achieved by an Informer reporter interviewed Dr. Jackson, president of the institution, the Union hospital had just performed a successful major operation. A statement: "The Union hospital is now in its second year; the first year exceeded the goal and became a permanent established doctor in medical circles and has entrenched itself in the suite and care of the hospital. A long felt want. It has handled many delicate and serious operations with true of medical cases as well." was adopted as the name of the State Medical Association and though this meeting was held during the hot summer, (some for tumors, appendicitis and the like) were performed by the hospital and complete recoveries. "This was partly due to the fact that the hospital in the state has a high pressure sterilizer; a sterilizer in rubber gloves, gauze and all material for operations are placed in this sterilizer, more of live steam under pressure for an hour and when taken out are absolutely good in apparatus and rigidity adherence to a high standard of nursing and sanitation is chiefly due to the excellent equipment and rigidity achieved. "While away this summer, I visited the east and found that the Union hospital compares favorably with them; its equipment is impeccable by the health authorities during the summer and a clean well of health grows as well as comp

HOUSTON, TEXAS, SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 1, 1919.
When the announcement was first made last year that Houston physical therapist in this city, there were "doubling Thomasases" galore and "it can-breathe" those doctors not described nor discouraged by such idle talk, and they would be knockes, they easily applied themselves to the task of giving people a real hospital with modern facilities. Already their efforts have been fruition and today the Union hospital races its civil life in this community, and is truly justifying its existence.
True is judged by the fruit it bears. It has certainly measured up to its operation and has not defaulted nor faltered. Moreover, the hospital deserves the support of our people.
This hospital is located in the Fourth Street Street Lion and is easily accessible by automobiles and street cars. A large two-story equipment is of a high class order.
The following constitute the official roster and staff: Dr. Charles Jackson, president; Dr. H. E. Lee, secretary; Dr. F. Stone, superintendent; Dr. R. O. Roett, resident physician; Miss B. M. Bass, president; Dr. E. B. Ramsey, F. L. McDavid. A new departure will be undertaken beginning with Monday, November 10, and will be formed and instruction begun. This work will be done with the view of race as efficient nurses, which field offers a most excellent opportunity to the women of our race. Prospective for enrollment or telephone Preston

ALL HOUSTON WILL TRY TO HEAR WORLD WAR'S GREATEST HERO AT CITY AUDITORIUM NOV. 1
Chicago—In the light of the "commission" report out of Chicago to raise relations of races in Mississippi, this story is a wonder:
A son or rather close to Jackson, Sunday, that has attracted some little attention is the alleged father of a Yazoo City Negro, from the Y. and M. V. train by white men and the administering to him of a rather sound thrashing.
"According to the story, Leon and a well-to-do Yazoo City barber, filmed in the world, of daughters to school at Atlanta. For the purpose he wanted sleeping car accommodations and attempted to reserve them at Yazoo City where the agent informed the school was desired, do well to engage a drawing room in order that the children would not come into contact with other passengers.

If the advance ticket sale is any barometer, the capacity of the City Auditorium will be taxed on the coming visit of Sir Night, November 1, 1919. Box seats at sale at Houston Instrument office, room 208 Toborian Blg., 8071, Prairie Ave. are in great demand, several society leaders having engaged enronate with the national colors. The general admission ticket sale is also very brisk, which shows that Houstonians appreciate the opportunity of seeing, hearing and doing honor unto a member of the race who has the greatest individual hero of the European war.
The part played by Sergeant Nedom Roberts in the Argonne Forest during the famous German drive of May, 1918, has been honored authentically and with justice to the principals, and much of the glory and honor do him and his comrade, Sergeant Henry Johnson, will not be awarded them untilcolored audiences and race history.

Sergeant Roberts' exploits constitute one of the most outstanding deeds of valor, heism and intrepidity in the recent European martial conflict. His regiment had been denied an opportunity to train intensively in this country before sailing it France to battle the Huns. His unit was the first combatant colored outfit to each the land of the poilu and because of their racial connections they were braided with the French forces. It was when the mighty German military machine as mowing down opposition and sending chills down the spine of the allied nations that Sergeant Roberts and Private Johnson encountered a German patrol onabout 40 men while reconnoitering in No-Man's Land and forthwith proceeded to make history both for the black race and the American nation. Valliantly the fought the Huns until their ammunition was exhausted and one of them laywounded, when Sergeant Roberts pressed his bolo knife into execution and inscribed his initials on several boches, captured quite a few and made the others joie the bird family. He wears many decorations for this great feat. He is a very interesting talker and has a message that will appeal to every red-blooded man, wannan and child. HEAR HIM! HEAR HIM!
CONCORD, NEWS.
REV. L. G. ALEXANDER, Pastor.
At 9:30, the Sunday school opened at Concord; a very早 day and an assured success. After the Sunday school session many visitors who were present spoke words of encouragement and service. The subject was "Love." Two visiting ministers were present. Reva Douglas and Gaddy. This being raily day, and our first one, every body was eager to come out to services. A very appreciative audience all day. 9:30, in the house was present. A very appreciative present from Houston — ministers bringing their members. A large amount of money was raised for both clubs. On Saturday night the contest between "Baby Pink" and "Baby Crawl" came off. These babies were dressed to represent their colors, pink and white. The priest of theorship of Mrs. McCollough, reported $14.50—29 votes. Baby Blue, under leadership of Mrs. Knox, reported $25.50—51 votes. Baby Blue, receiving the highest amount of votes, is declared the most popular baby in Concord. He received a beautiful baby in Concord. We were heard from the different club leaders. Mrs. L. B. Alexander, leader of Mrs. Bubus Allden, leader of Club No. 2 reported $214.28. Total, $603.26. Concord is reported $214.28. We were asked by the pastor to pay $500, but we went not "over the top" but "beyond the top," for their kindness and liberal donations to us, both in our city, and to the city we will be glad to return your kindness by answering with our prayers, songs, presence and money for our services. —MRS W. THE RALLY AT CONCORD A PACE SETTER.

The members and friends rallied faithfully and instantiate a call for $500 more as much as any two rallies given in our church. The record-breaker is the record-breaker. The first rally in this church's history.

SUPPORT AND ENCOURAGE THE LOAN TO THE CITY.
The majority of the citizenship are in real earnest for the city council to do all they can possibly do to lift the poverty rate and to ensure we with pure drinking water; so our health will be safeguarded insofar as good drainage and pure water will do it, and the only way to get these necessities is to pay for them.
There are some men who oppose this loan from a honest conviction. That is, they don't want to pay taxes at the city, fear and trumbling and receive no higher return, and are other men who do not favor the loan because they think (as it has been painted to them) to do so that their individual homes will be taken away from them. They are fearful of the city and there is another bunch of kickers, knockers, who have been led to the altar and sworn eternal vengeance against the present administration; and they are losing sleep and energy to see to it that the present city council will be able to give of credit to them nor a benefit to the city in general. You take the set of men who are opposing, misleading, and holding up a banner of great calamity, if this loan succeeds, and you are not willing to give up. Are men who opposed this administration at the ballot box and were buried in defeat. As soon as you to awake, and assert yourself, let us demand every improvement we can possibly obtain, and we will be able to say the city council know that we are with them, and are willing to do as much for our families as any other set of men.
Don't be a jelly fish, nor an object in the form of a human, but let us be a jelly fish, too. We must assume responsibility, and become the master of that responsibility.
God, who is the creator of all things, who has no confidence in himself and none in anybody else, is but a cow condition and reason in itself, and sincere sympathy of all who may come in contact with them.
The hardest thing today has such men as Sgt. Roberts and others had they been young men, who had a child in the knees, and the paralysis of the knees, and the responsibility presented itself, but rather as be as was when this great crisis was brought to the conditions, responsibility was made for man, and not man for responsibility.
