TOMB FINDS REVEAL KING TUT WAS A NEGRO U. S. CONGRESSIONAL CIRCUS CLOSES SEASON ON NEXT MONDAY HOME EDITION VOL. IV. TOMB U. S. CON INFORMER PRINTS PICTURES TAKEN INSIDE TUT'S TOME Reproductions of Photographs Taken in the Tomb of King Tut- Ankh - Amen, Egyptian Ruler of Ethiopian Descent. Have you ever tried to picture for yourself the civilization that existed in the kingdom of David, second king of Israel? Have you tried to imagine the kind of clothes people were 3,600 years ago? Over in Egypt, in the valley of the Nile, in the desert from the descendants of Ham, there was recently opened the apothecine of Pharesh Tut-Ankh-Amen, the Negrid ruler of Egypt 35 centuries ago, and things were found that reveal the glory and grandeur of this ancient black civilization. Once more The Informer makes a cope and is in the first colored new- spaper of the picture of pictures made of pictures from photographs taken inside this tomb, showing the many interesting objects which it con- tains. In these pictures you will see much of the story, history, art, and science of ancient dasky civiliza- tion, which held the world away and was the birth of the first of Christ—a civilization that anteceded the pyramids by several hundred years. See pictures from four of this issue. Eventually, you must read and rea- ly understand all of the race名, why not now? **JOIN HOUSTON C. C. C. TODAY!** What's Your Idea? C.—The fourth of March comes on Sunday, therefore, according to custom, Congress adjourns at no, Monday, March 5, to be "free, single, and disengaged" until December. President Harding, with Attorney General Daugherty and Mrs. Harding and others, will journey to the rice fields of Florida, there to bank in the sunshine of contention, while resting from their labor. Washington promises to be a "dead town" for several months, unless, perchance, European developments present a crisis requiring a special session. Two years of President Harding's administration are ended. Scores of members of the house and more than a score of members of the Senate will say "good-bye" to Washington officially. A number of them, on the house side are "concerners" who got in on the Harding landslide, came here with the idea of "showing 'em how the government must be run," and are leaving for their old homes, sadden but wiser men. Colored America has been given the "Merry ha, ha." The dreams of 1920 are the "bitter woes" of 1923. Inspiration to fly into the Elysian fields of hapiness has turned into dejected determination to work along different lines from now on. The democratic minority of the United States aided and abetted by Underwood, Harrison, Helfin, DeKellar, Caraway and a number of others who really would not have a look in the senate if the government had the nerve to enforce the 14th and amendments in the South with endeavoring to enforce the 18th—these men of the minority have "these the nation with an iron hand." By filibustering, bluff, buffery, and all the facies conceivable to minds of destruction rather than construction, this pitiful, pitiless minority has held the feet to the fire of the great republican majority in the history of the nation, and cause them to dance to the music of sorrow. "Will politics adjourn during the absence of congress?" That question is being asked on all hands. From all indications, it will not. The presidential campaign for all parties concerned for 1924 will begin on the last tamp of the gavel on the 18th of March. President Harding will hold the nerve to keep all the lines in line; Hiram Johnson of California will insist on primary laws in various states; and there will be a tremendous lining up of forces to get somewhere. Washington will be "dead" officially but it will be a bee-hive politically. of isolation from the rest of his race, for this big 'I' and little 'your' stuff will spice our ration. We need to J. H. This shows that "The People's Paper" leads—all others follow. These five Arkansas peons, condemned to death by Arkansas courts in connection with the riots of 1919, whose cases the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People has fought through five courts including the Arkansas Supreme Court, will not be executed, according to a decision rendered by the highest tribunal of the land on February 19, setting aside the conviction of these men. The Supreme Court's decision takes the cases of the condemned colored farmers out of the jurisdiction of the State of Arkansas and requires the United States District Court to examine into the attempt to railroad these men to death. The Arkansas cases constitute the center of a fight being made to bring the facts of peonage in the cotton-sections of the United States to light, and to bring federal pressure to abolish the peonage for defense of these men the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People has raised and spent by the colored people of Arkansas who were vitally interested in the fate of their comrades. The victory before the Supreme Court is due to the courageous and untiring labor of a colony attorney of little Rock, and to misfortune strayed by the N. A. A. C.P., before the Supreme Court in Washington on January 9, 1923, to argue the cases. The Arkansas case originated in the riot of 1919, when it was asserted that the colored farmers in and near Phillips County, Arkansas, were a colony attorney of little Rock, and a personal investigation of the riot made by Walter F. White, who accused the N. A. A. C.P., disclosed that far from planning a "massacre," the colored farmers had been organized to employ a lawyer to compel settlements from their landlords who were holding their tenants in a state of peonage or debt slavery, and to incarcerate the innocent settlers, men, women and children, were hung and shot in the presence of posses of white men coming from Mississippi and Tennessee to join in the men colored arrested beaten and tortured to make them testify, 67 were sentenced to long prison terms and twelve were sentenced to death. The cases of all the men sentenced to death hinge upon the cases of the five whose millions have been reversed by the United States Supreme Court. In the brief filed before the Supreme Court by Mr. Storey, it is charged that the courts of Arkansas, including the Arkansas Supreme Court, the newspapers, leading white citizens and clubs involved in a compulsory to railroad these colored farmers to death. "HOUSTON'S GOT 'EM" EXAS, SATURDAY, MAY KING S CLOSE INFORMER SCOOPS PAPERS ON FEET Not only did The Houston I. South's leading race newspaper over a scop on the entire color, the only race journal in America death sentence upon the five in Court of the United States. This leads—all citizens follow. There five Arkansas peons, courts in connection with the rational Association for the Adv fought through five courts including not be executed, according to extinction of the land on February of them. The Supreme of the condemned colored farmer State of Arkansas and the court to examine into the attempt to take the Arkansas case constitute to bring the facts of pengue in United States to light, and to that evil. In the legal battle for all Association for the Advance the Arkansas case interested in the fate of the Supreme Court is due to the bers of Sculpia J. Jones, a colorer in 1722, dressed at the court before the Supreme Court in W argue the cause. The Arkansas case originated asserted that the colored farmer State of Arkansas, had compelled to "investigation of the death case to Arkansas by the N. A. A. The colored murured to make them testify, 72 and twelve were sentences on the Arkansas convictions have been reversed Court. In the brief filed before the S charged that the courts of Arkansas conspired or connived at a court farmers to die. ROSCOE SMITH DIES AT WACO The many local Friends of Koeleo Smith of Waco, foster son of H. R. L. Smith, banker, fraternal and leader, were shocked to learn of his premature death in that city last Sunday morning. He was familiar with kindly called, was until a few months ago cashier of the Farmers' Improvement Bank at Waco. He had recently embarked in the real estate and insurance business which was just getting under way. He was prominently connected with several fraternities and stood out as one of Waco's leading clients, being the one who was struck ill Friday night and passed away early Sunday morning. At hour of 6 p.m. to press晨闻 arrangement, he was LAUNCH LOCAL AT BEAUMONT The Colored Workmen and Women's Association of Texas has in local organization. The meeting was held in the old Indian school in church in that city and the Houston representatives made quite a decision to work at the African American institution. Those composing the Houston delegation were Menra Robert Jates, president; F. W. Carle, secretary; R. H. Moore, secretary; A. G. Green, president of Houston to Woodames Anthony Lewis and A Reed. EXPLORERS' DISCOVERIES SHOW EGYPTIAN RULER WAS HAMITIC ELEGANCE, BEAUTY AND OPULENCE (Staff Correspondence to the Associated Negro Press.) Cairo, Egypt, Feb. 5, 1923.—The remains of King Tudu-Ankh-Amen and the greater bulk of the wonderful treasures found in the outer chambers of his tomb will be kept in Egypt. This statement is official and final. Egyptian governmental influences have so decided and it is now clear that none of the foreign influences interested in the recent marvelous discoveries made down beyond Thebes will make any attempt to disregard the wishes of the Egyptian government in this particular. EPISCOPAL VICAR TO WRITE ON GLORIOUS PAST OF BLACK RACE; TO BE RARE HISTORICAL TREAT A startling significance has been attached to the discoveries; the relics brought out of the darkness and seclusion of the world’s ‘entitlement’ years entitlement are distinctly tropical in character and pronouncedly Ngoin in physical and expression. Hijackage, beauty and an opulent presence are present about the wow derail tulum. There is no way to determine the values of the collection in the ancient ruler’s coffins. Their souder lives lie more in what they reveal than in what the represent in modern appraisal. The ancient ruler’s coffins are the ancient ruler’s guarding at the sealed entrance to the inner tulum are black of face, flat nosed in the ancient ruler’s Nile. There is good reason to believe in the light of these facts, that the Nordics did not get that far south and sand or more years ago. New Heart for Dark Races A new heart and a distinguished tradition have come to the dark races by reason of these latest excavatory discoveries at the tomb of one woman, the ancient Egyptian *Egypt*. "We must reclaim these ancient splendors of our great credit and again take our right-ful places among the great, wise, and powerful people of modern times," said an eminent Egyptian scholar, Dr. A. H. H. Khalil last week. There is a fine though non-militant culture here in *Egypt*. It is romantic in attitude and distinctly profound in philological interest. But above everything else it is proud to be a national hero. NEGRO T MONDAY OVERIES SHOW R WAS HAMITIC; BUTY AND OPULENCE (the Associated Negro Press.)) The remains of King Tut-Ankh- wonderful treasures found in the beek in Egypt. This statement governmental influences have no none of the foreign influences in- discoveries made down beyond to disregard the wishes of the articular. tense and pathetically implicable in its hatreds of the "despoilers of our land." But fresh heart and a practical wisdom is here and it now looks as if this means a new life has come to Egypt. Today's Problems Old One other thing has been brought to light by these latest excavations, that is that the social problems of socialization and of social moment which have given worry to men throughout the ages of human development. The rich and powerful governing and the governed visited each with other, for the vantage grounds of life experience and with social relations and social value to the life of today, King Tut-Akh-Amen had his troubles setting questions of religion and state as well as his difficulties in making sense of the social relations obtaining between, in his day, capital and labor. Indeed, new fields of social speculation have suddenly been opened, a quite disturbing effect on the future trends of society throughout the world. White Veil Lifted The white veil has been lifted. There is no longer any mystery hidden from us of the vaulted possessions of social superiority of the whites or "Korean" men. We are standing at the threshold of social beginning that will be more worldwide in its scope and, probably more sound in its philosophical conclusions than any of its predecessors. Khae's turn return is free from fear of reaching social inclusions. Who can tell? WRITE ON OF BLACK RACE; ARE HISTORICAL TREAT On "African Adventures," which writing and enlightening, Rev. W. This is precisely the truth when it comes to advertising in The Houston Informer The Houston Informer goes into more colored homes than all other local colored newspapers combined and enjoys the second largest circulation in Texas among colored journals. The Houston Informer also reaches more colored people than any daily newspaper in the city. Its circulation is LARGE and is still jumping by leaps and bounds, proving that it is THE PEOPLE'S PAPER Its advertising rates are LOW in comparison with its values to the advertisers. There are fully 40,000 colored citizens in Houston and this volume of business is surely worth going after. NO MAN IS ENTITLED TO MORE AND NO MAN SHOULD RECEIVE LEBS. — ROOSEVELT. HOUSTON, TEXAS, SATURDAY, MARCH 3, 1923. LEARNING LESSON FROM A DOG Following the rain and wind of a rainy and stormy night of some weeks ago, we discovered that one of our dogs, who possessed a litter of young puppies under the front steps, had carried the entire bunch to a place of safety in the woodhouse while the elements were raging that cold and damp wintry night. The mother instinct—that something in that canine that impelled her to try to protect her kind and prepare a place for her little ones—is indeed an admirable trait and could be emulated by many of our people to the great advantage of their children, their race and society. Too many of our parents are perfectly willing to virtually desert their offspring in such trying ordeals, refusing positively to go out of their way to make it possible for their children and other children of the race to be carried to a place of safety; to be placed where want, suffering, oppression, poverty and woe will not be their sad and unhappy lot. This analogy is not so overly far-fetched, for Solomon called his people's attention to the ant; urged them to consider this tiny inset's ways and be wise. We can learn much from these so-called "uncalled sons of God" and, since our people are so prone to neglect or forget their posterity, let us not permit any dog to do more for her puppies than we do for our children. We know of countless instances where colored parents have lavished money upon their children's education (a praiseworthy act), but we have scoffed at investing money in any laudable proposition to provide places and business training for these selfsame children. We are satisfied (and seem to take great pleasure in so doing) to build up, strengthen and fortify other races and give them financial strength and power not only to close the door of hope in the face of our youths, but to take our hard-earned cash and fight our race with it. In other words, we are apparently well pleased with the practice of enriching and making more powerful our enemies, while imitating, rendering and maintaining our own growth and inepte - easy and ready victims to all kinds of injustices and inequalities. We trade with mercantile institutions that not only refuse to employ colored clerks or seek our trade by advertising in colored mediums, but which segregate, jim-crow and otherwise insult us while we are pouring our cash into their coffers. Where can we find a group, possessing such wealth in the aggregate as the colored people of Houston, meekly and willingly submitting, year in and year out, to such discriminatory and unfair tacies and practices? Like the mechanical hobby-horse or merry-go-round, which travels thousands of miles weekly in its rotations and yet never farther than its stationary meter and we always on the run - going to do something - but never get anywhere. What kind of places are we making for our posterity? When the storms come, the rains descend and winter's frigid blasts make uncomfortable, ininhabitable and unbearable our low estate, will our offspring be left to "root little氢 or die"? Several hundred colored boys and girls will graduate from the various high schools and colleges of Texas in the next few months. How many of these educated and trained young people will be afforded decent and befitting employment in enterprises made possible either by the race's patronage of other races' businesses or its capital invested in undertakings of our own? What are we doing to keep the invicible wolf from our racial door? If we do not provide places and positions for our posterity, pray tell us who will do it? This can only be done through co-operation, group action, team work and combination and co-ordination of our forces, both financial and moral; and the Houston black man must wake up and get busy, for both God and man know he has slept entirely too long and let him go to out-sleep Rip Van Winkle. The dog carried her puppy to safety, secured rags and warm bedding for them and made a place for them far removed from the water and chilly atmosphere. What this canine did in a small way, we can and must do in a larger and more far-reaching manner. Does this noble act of this common cur mean anything to us? Has it any significance? Aren't we at least willing to try to better our lot and leave a more significant place besides poverty, good intentions and a "death-bed statement?" Now is the accepted time to turn up something. Let's make 1922 the year of jubilee! What say ye? PAGE FOUR NEW SUBSCRIPTION RATES: THE HOUSTON INFORMER, SATURDAY, MARCH 3, 1923. IMPROVED UNIFORM INTERNATIONAL SundaySchool Lesson GY REV. P. B. PITTWATER. D. D. Teacher of English Bible in the Moody Bible Institute of Chicago. Copyright, 1922. Western Newspaper Union. LESSON FOR MARCH 4 2. Wicked Flattery (v. 21). They complimented his truthful teaching, but also certified to his faithfulness even to that extent that He would face Cesar himself. This compliment was true, and he complained that the flattery was the base purpose to destroy Jesus. Many today praise to the Jesus that he was the base purpose to the Cunning Question (vv. 22-23), "is it lawful for us to give birth to Jesus?" The Jews were galling under the yoke of the Roman government. To have answered this question either by "yes," "no," or "not," they have answered. To have answered "yes," would have conveyed the impression of enlightenment. To have answered "no," would have at once brought him into the world. To have answered "not," would not always an easy matter, for a Christian to determine his right relation to civil government. To have answered the question properly and applied the final word on the subject. Until the Jesus would have been bound to render them obedience. Render unto Cesar the things due within the realm of the rights of government. But while Christ's answer sets forth their duties to civil authorities. He used the occasion to him to God. Heender unto God the things that are God's. Man bears the image of God. There is hence his God's protection and care, it is his duty to own allegiance to Him, yield his life to Him in servitude. Since he enjoys God's protection and enjoys the benefits of civil government is obliged to pay the taxes which are necessary for the support of that government. God's favor is placed under a like obligation unto Him. 1. *Jesus' Earnthood* (Gli 21:14). 2. *Henry Earnthood* (Gli 21:14). The People giving (v. 1). He was greatly interested in observing the way the people cast their gifts into the treasury. Perhaps he was more interested in the manner than the way he behaves before the Lord's treasury. Jesus sits over every dollar cast into it. He knows the dollar comes and how they go. No trickery can deceive Him. He knows that the money he earns every dollar cast into it. He knows it the business world. 2. *The Rich Gate of Their Abundance* (v. 14). They no doubt, gave him half and left their gifts small. The size of the gift is not primarily to be measured by how much it is, but how 8. A Widow Gave Two Mites (v. 2-4). In a value nite was less than a mite, the widow gave her small value themselves, they represented her all—not merely her nursls, but her living. Let no one deceive her that she is the widow's wite; for to give the widow's wite means to give everything. 9. Jeans Verdict (v. 8-4). He declared that she had given more than they all. Jeans looks into the heart and estimates our gifts not by their and by the motives prompting them. An Honeat Man.
