Investigator in Mob's Hands—Advancement Association Gets Another Sworn Affidavit Regarding Alen Lynching. *New York, Nov. 19—Startling developments in the exposure of conditions surrounding the recent lynching of one colored woman and two men in Aiken, South Carolina, include the following:* 1. A letter from L. G. Southard, lawyer who defended the mob victims, to Walter White, asserting that the "bribery" charges against the N. A. A. C. P. investigator were "all bluff and intimidation," as reported in a court report that to do violence to you Mr. Southard volunteers to come North and appear before Governor Smith of New York to argue against extradition of Mr. White should extradition be demanded by Governor McLeod. Mr. Southard writes to Mr. White: "You started the work and that is what they do not want and the know that the world know the guilty ones and that is another thing that they do not want." 2. A sworn affidavit has been sent to the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, at 69 Fifth Avenue, signed by J. Murray Lane, a white man who was in court when Demon Lowman was acquitted and immediately afterward saw "law enforcement" officers "jugging the扣 jail," clearing away automobiles. At the final reports of the colored workers in the Community Chest campaign, submitted Saturday evening at the assembly room of the Colored Young Women's Christian Association, Odd Fellows Temple, it was disclosed that subscriptions amounting to $7,849.51 had been made to the Chest drive by the colored citizens of Houston. This amount represents only the pledges and subscriptions reported through colored chest workers, and does not include amounts subscribed by colored employees which were turned over from industrial plants to white team workers, accustomed to working in the Chest drive division. When final tabulation is made, it is expected that colored citizens will show more than $10,000 subscribed to the Chest Fund. With the goal set at $450,000, $461,235 was secured. Ever since this amendment became a part of the basic laws of our republic, it has engrossed considerable public attention forming the theme for numerous articles and addresses, being employed by the politicians for political purposes, and attracting more attention and eliciting more comment and discussion, favorable and unfavorable, than any appendix to the American constitution. With an oversubscription of nearly $12,000, the Houston Community Chest drive, conducted here last week among members of both races, has again gone "over the top," and everybody, in addition to public-spirited citizens, is jubilant with such flattering results. To that end an organization committee was created, consisting of ten members and headed by Mrs. Minnie U. Fuller, a well known leader among the white community. The committee is Judge Jesse Gibson Jones, Dr. J. G. Iah and others will represent the colored group. The organization committee was instructed to select with great care a representative state committee and to make a survey of interracial conditions in the community its first meeting, as a suggestive basis for the program. It is expected that the committee will be early in 1927, at which time an executive secretary will be named, a pro-community organization of local organization will begin.
