We should respect for constituted authority we so much desire, but which we are going about in a wrong way to attain and obtain. Passing Parade Published every Saturday at 409-410 Odd Fellows Temple, Houston, Tex. Didu have anything to be thankful for? Enclosed as second-class matter May 28, 1519, at the postoffice at Houston, Texas, under the Act of March 3, 1799 The first ten amendments to the American constitution were proclaimed to be in force December 15, 1791, and though they have been the written law of the land for fully 182 years, they are not the only amendments to the constitution in any number of American states, and particular our section. Waltera Iligano Solomon, the distinguished looking editor-minister teachers grabo trotter, eating one of the celebrated meals at the Y. W. C. A. And yet most of our Southern governors, prohibitionists and moral reformers are raising more sand and hullabaloo about the 18th amendment's observance and enforcement than about all the other amendments combined, most of which assure and vouch-safe to all American citizens their human, civic, religious and political rights and privileges. Mesdames C. W. Rice and Ed Jones the latter being truant officer, a postmaster, and the latter being band, who is now a city detective. These two indices seem to be quite well. Well, it isn't our friend, Lisa Beauchamp, looking fit and fine a long side of age. He's named the famed Roman writer of *The Grapes*. The 13th, 14th and 15th amendments to the national constitution were made enforceable, by proclamation, largely and chiefly, between December 18, 1865, and March 30, 1870; and, despite their age and guarantees, with congress empowered to enforce them in toto, they are about as dead as Hector when he was 18 years old, that of ancient city when the overthrow and destruction by the Greeks. Covington, local physician with a downdcast and lonesome look, has been a mentor to six months or longer, the man who gave her daughter a thriller winner of their daughter, a bride winner of their daughter. HOUSTON, TEXAS, SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 27, 1926 Is the 18th amendment any more vital, important and essential to the other constitutional amendments and guarantees? A law, even a constitutional amendment, means very little in the United States, if the people decide among themselves that they will not observe it, and the public officials seem to be wholly and solely committed to the policy of nullification through non- "OPEN REBELLION AGAINST THE CONSTITUTION!" Rev. J. R. Burdette, pastor before Baptist Church, who is preaching some mighty sermons here of late; "pep have returned to the reverend." At the recent general election, the voters in several states were afforded an opportunity to express, by ballot, their attitude towards the Volstead act, or the 18th (prohibition) amendment to the constitution of the United States of America. So many constitutional amendments have been held in open defiance and contempt by American people, that the present effort is rather belated; and it causes a student of history to laugh up his sleeve at such procedure. Ever since this amendment became a part of the basic laws of our republic, it has engrossed considerable public attention forming the theme for numerous articles and addresses, being employed by the politicians for political purposes, and attracting more attention and eliciting more comment and discussion, favorable and unfavorable, than any appendix to the American constitution. The elevator boy wants to know what is the difference between a community chest and a family cedar chest. Millions of dollars for trying to enforce the 18th amendment to the federal constitution, but not one cent for trying to enforce the provisions of the 13th, 14th and 15th amendments to the same constitution! Colored of Colored High School foot ball players trying to explain how Beaumont deflected the last Satriani Oil City. Just out scored you, boys! Regulating a man's appetite or trying to do what nature has never done (and, perhaps, never will do), may be all right and proper, but regulating man's conduct towards his fellowman and insuring to all citizens the same rights and privileges in a democratic republic such as ours, strike us as of far more consequence and import. Speaking before the Texas Baptist General Convention (white), last week at San Antonio, former Governor Gat M. Neff, convened a national issue in the presidential election of 1928; and he further asserted, with much emphasis, that "the prohibition law should be enforced by all states, and any state refusing to co-operate in its enforcement commits an act of open rebellion against the con- J. To drink or not to drink, is not the question involved in the position assumed by the Informer in this partial and political agitation. It is not the question involved in the amendment; but there is a greater and more far-reaching principle involved and stake: the issue and question of the right of the people to abrogate and nullify one constitutional amendment at will and to religiously and zealously observe, obey and enforce Gilbert T. Stoks, Y.-M. C. A. execs from the University of California along with T. J. Johnson of the Y. M. C. A. football team, why the attack is not on team with Galveston Island. As a riveting argument, the former governor of Texas added: "The law does not respect and obey the law, we shall demonstrate to the world that we are a pack of law-breakers rather than a parliament of law-makers. When a people disregard any law they are The building pessimist says that he would have given to the Community Chest. If he had been admired his dime employed "In the right direction." Temperoring and compromising with one evil merely creates additional, and often, more menacing, dangerous and destructive evils, and the 18th amendment's fate and rough treatment at the hands of the federal government. American citizens prove the veracity of our statements. This is a strong indictment against our vaunted civilization, but as long as the law of cause and effect is operative and time endures, we can still be held accountable for our stitutional amendment, and wink and connive at the non-observance and non-enforcement of other amendments to the same conventions. Talk, about team work and getting together, you should have lumped those colored workers in the recent Community Chest drive. They labored like the provenula Trojans and they worked their results, though off to a belated start. Yes, gentlemen, there are a few more constitutional amendments that should also receive our attention and consideration, and while we are adopting plans to enforce the prohibition law, suppose we simply enlarge our program and include all the con If the Southern states (ex-Governor Neff's state included) can nullify and run rough-shod on the 13th, 14th and 15th amendments, as well as the 4th and 6th, why can not the Northern states, by the same method of reasoning and "rebellious" procedure, consign the 18th constitutional amendment to the torrid clime of the plutocratic regions? Three old timers in conversation W. L. Jones of Boley, Rev. W. M. M. Green ('Lang Green') and M. B. M. Green ('Lang Green') in day, they clap with one accord. Such a far-reaching and widespread program would impress the people more with the sincerity and earnestness of our undertaking and at the same time would be more instrumental in educating and training the people on the majesty of the law and suprem- The Informer is a not supporter nor advocate of the liquor traffic, nor does this paper hold any brief for the Bootleggers' Association or Moonshiners' Federation; for this editor contended for prosecution and woman suffrage long before either became law of this law. Mrs. L. C. Anderson of Austin, wife of the well-known Capital City educator, in company with Mrs. J. B. Bell. To single out one particular constitutional amendment and focus and center all our efforts on that one, while neglecting and willfully refusing to even consider or mention the others, is calculated to undermine our ability to govern and the cause whose advancement we purport to espouse. Selah! However, The Informer can not subscribe to nor embrace the doctrine of having fits and "jimmies" about the nullification and non-observance of the prohibition amendment, and then resting on the same basis as the other of other amendments attached to this same national documents. Rev. E. L. Harrison, Anticho's the final torment, lining up his forces for the final drive in the $6,000 effort for Sunday and B. Success to your cause reverend. HOUSTON'S INDOMITABLE SPIRIT WINS AGAIN! With an oversubscription of nearly $12,000, the Houston Community Chest drive, conducted here last week among members of both races, has again gone "over the top," and everybody, in addition to public-spirited citizens, is jubilant with such flattering results. As it has probably been a long time since the vast majority of these staunch defenders and rabid proponents of the 18th amendment attended school and studied America history, the Declaration of Independence—called the Magna Charta of the western hemisphere—and the constitution of our common country, we will learn that we have benefited of these and others, some excerpts from both documents. TID-BITS TID-BITS "Mia was used by the Greeks and Romans to make windowpanes. Large ashpit beds have been dis covered recently in the Philippines. Unlike most Southern cities who either fall in their objective along this line, or must import and trust such drives to high-powered and high-salaried "experts," our community conducts these annual campaigns with local workers and not a single failure has ever been registered thus far; which speaks volumes for the indomitable spirit of Houstonians of both races. The pulling power of an ordinary railroad engine equals that of nine hundred horses. That to secure these rights, governments are instituted by the people, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable powers. That whenever any form of government becomes destructive of those ends, it is the right of the people to alter or abolish it, and that whenever any form of government becomes destructive of those ends, it is the right of the people to alter or abolish it, and organizing its powers in such form, as to them shall seem most necessary. The country of Thibet is reported to have only one motor vehicle, which is a motorcycle. With the goal set at $450,000, $20,000 more than last year and at a time when the cotton slump has put a damper on business, the citizens of Houston subscribed more than $461,235 to the 1927 fund for organized charity and welfare work. A torch that can cut steel in a sunk en ship, at any depth, has been devised. While no definite and accurate information is obtainable just now regarding the exact amount the colored citizens of Houston pledged and donated to the chest drive, it is estimated that more than $10,000 of this huge sum came from our people, nearly $10,000 collected and reported through the colored organization, when the city purchased the pleasure and fortune to direct for the second consecutive year. Wild potatoes in Chile grow about as big as hazelnuts. That the colored organization might get into the preliminary campaign in the 1927 drive, the job was to confer with chest directors regarding this matter: Rev. J. S. Scott, Rev. J. R. The committee is Judge Jesse Gibson Jones, Dr. J. G. Iah and others will represent the colored group. The organization committee was instructed to select with great care a representative state committee and to make a survey of interracial conditions in the community its first meeting, as a suggestive basis for the program. It is expected that the committee will be early in 1927, at which time an executive secretary will be named, a pro-community organization of local organization will begin.
