Colored people may be growing less superstitious and suspicious; the number who adorn their anatomy with good luck charms and wear out their pockets with rabbit's feet may be diminishing; many of them may have lost faith in signs of various kinds and species, but there appeared a sign on the door of Harris County court house last week which aroused and stirred to sudden and definite action a large group of colored Baptists of Houston and Texas.
The sign which caused all this commotion, excitement and activity referred to and advertised the fact that Houston College, Baptist institution of learning located on Buffalo Drive in the fashionable River Oaks district, was to be sold at a public auction to satisfy an alleged judgment secured by one, A. L. Russell of Dallas County and Attorney A. G. Perkins of Galveston County, for the sum of $2861.38, which was represented as a loan made by the latter to the Baptist Missionary and Educational Convention of Texas to save the Western Star, Baptist organ and printing plant, when its condition became precarious during last fall.

New Orleans, La.—(ANP)—Rocca Scott, a messenger for the August 16th attack, led the efforts of three white bandits Saturday afternoon who tried to get inside the building after they had beat him over the head with a garbage can. Scott picked up his bundle, which contained a silver service and a gold watch, and continued on his way, delivering them. He then went back to the warehouse, where the templated hold-up to the manager, Angus Benthill, Polly was at.

Gulfport, Miss. —(ANP)—Following in the wake of reports of discord among colored and white people of Handbour, four miles north of here, Judge Walter A. White of Bloxi, ordered the grand jury to investigate the cause of the fire which destroyed the Negro Baptist Church on June 3. The fire was a morning and the edifice valued at $15,000 was completely destroyed. Rumors were rife at the time that the fire had been caused by whites and that the Negro congregation had been warned not to rebuild the church. While Judge White said he had no knowledge of the correctness of the reports that the church had been destroyed by fire of incendiary origin, he told the jury that he had investigated and that he would continue the present term of court, 2 month if that length of time was needed to get to the bottom of the thing.

Houston Lynching and Democratic Convention
By WILLIAM PICKENS
(For The Associated Negro Press)
Houston stages a lynching as a sort of "semi-final" to the democratic National Convention. This is certainly bad advertising for Texas law enforcement party. The officials of Texas seem sensitive because of that bad advertising; in other words, it is not so much the lynching as it is the importunity of the affair that angers the officials. They would like to see the lynching be less feeling is somewhat like this: It hers for not showing better taste. The fellows just had to lynch a Negro, why in thunder couldn't they wait until the convention was over, and maybe until after the election in November. The lynching was taken place somewhere, not in the very city where the convention crowds are even assembled? "Any lyncher so beheaded as that ought to be punished in an importunity to lynch, to prevent places. For example, just one month before this Houston lynching, a Nexon known as Center, Texas. If some of those who had lynched "Buddy" now serving in the Texas penitentiary, then eight men in Houston would never have dared to commit had been enforced and the criminals punished in the former affair, those who have hesitated. No criminal would expect to "get away" with anything in Houston that he could not even
Note that both in Center and in Houston the Negroes were charged with the crime that nobody has yet proved that the Negro did not kill merely in self-defense in both instances. Everybody has accused the police of "innocent" accusations, that know that when a man of the helpless and hopeless minority is attacked, people, nine cases out of ten it is pure animal act of self-defense or the part of the man of the weaker minority. It is only way to avoid the embarrassment of inconvenience lynchings, to be teaching altogether and everywhere. We would respectly insinuate that the governor and the state of Texas have been against the Center lynchers as they threaten to take against the Houston lynchers there would have been against the

SOUTH CAROLINA National Benefit RETURNS NEGRO Head Issues Call TO STATE PRISON For Negro Youths
Columbia, S. C. (ANP) - Bren Bea, who was released from the state prison a few weeks ago, after serving thirteen years of a thirty-year sentence, was returned to prison on Thursday. A statement from a statement from the same woman has again robbed him of his freedom.
Bren Bea was sentenced to thirty years on a charge of raping a white woman. Recently the woman signed an affidavit that he was not guilty and a subsequent statement was received from the woman to the effect that she affidavit knew what she was signing, and that Bren Bea was guilty of the charge. So, the rearrent of Bren Bea has caused quite a disturbance here, and many account of her testimony at the trial thirteen years ago. Others, while the reason for the statement, have declared that they believe Bren Bea inflicted the charges and feel that

FIRST IN REAL NEWS----PAGE THREE
Washington, D.C. - A report recently published indicates that $3,000,000 worth of life insurance was written in 11 weeks by students of York University, according to statement by the director. A group of students from the remarkable piece of work. If their production was figured over a year on the basis of their seven week's work, the students would have been in attendance to the emphasis being placed by the National Benefit Life Insurance Commission upon the desirability of the thorough training of agents, and it is notable that so many educational institutions supply courses in insurance for the benefit of their students and to meet the needs of their students is keener than ever. It is not competition among companies so much as competition among individuals. This is due to the fact that there is an urge on the part of more experienced insurance companies to
"National Benefit and other life insurance companies," Mr. Rutherford said, "present stride unless there is to be found among the young men and women who sincere willingness to study the opportunities opened to them, not on the basis of financial success or race building as well. Practical inference from our educational institutions with the definite classroom suggestions to be worked out in the future will open the openings which are spread before the thousands of young men and women of the time each year. The field is open, the opportunities are great, we are ready."

Mississippi Adventures
(By ROGER DIDIER)
(Continued From Last Issue)
How do the races get along in Mississippi? Answers to that question are difficult to determine to the differences in the background and points of view of the observers might radically diverge, and economic phenomena, the interpretations of these incidents by two observers might radically diverge and the observers would appear bad to another.
For example, I listened, a few weeks ago, to a minister interpreter an experience which occurred in a smoky compartment of the coach, after the minister had entered the smoking compartment of the coach, after the minister he was a Negro, and the conductor busy in there checking on tickets on the coach, only two seats in the smoking compartment. Now this minister is sure he had entered the compartment because he conductor in a buffe that he conducted to be in there with a Negro. It has not occurred to the minister that because he thought he was taking up too much of the compartment in the North. In Mississippi I entered one of those "jim-crow" smoking compartments, where both the news butcher and the chef were seated with the same dutty seat with the news butcher, smoked cigarettes with him and talked at the news butcher and peared to hope that he would have a cigarette with him. My experience was indicative of a certain friendliness and cordiality between members of the two races in the compartment.
There is no question in anybody's mind about the distinct improvement in education of many Negroes. Race relations in the South to demand that much larger extent than is suspect interesting to recall in this connection that the hackers of the Cotton States, 1865, were facing financial failure until it was suggested that someone exposition the exposition. What these hackers did was to invite the immortal Dr. Booker T. Washington to make a speech marked the beginning of a new era of growth for Washington white folks' exposition. Now, ashes, white Southerners are making an effort along the line in the face of economic crisis. Mississippi will offer many theories to contour our pet theories of And it seems that, even among Mississippi, there is a difference in point of view let us consider a different industrial and Industrial Institute, at the Southern Christian Institute, and at
At Utica, from three to five hundred students are cared for for thirty teachers. These two whites are women, one elderly, the other in her early twenties. These two women, with no other white man or woman about. When they have occluded the room, with no other white man or woman about. When they have occluded the room, with no other white man or woman about. At the school, they mingle freely with them at the same table in the same dining room where teachers and about this, although it is clearly two white women living alone and mingling, socializing and otherwise interacting.
Forty miles from Utica there is the Southern Christian Institute where he has been in this beautiful spot since thirty-three years, he and his wife, a graduate student, have about Negroes and whites. His ideas of others doing the same work ideas of them to Nerwees and whites and though they do not exist at Southern Christian Institute, exist in classrooms. There is a separate school to the school, no matter how distinguished, are brought from the rear under the school, refused to eat under the school, refused to eat and it is a subject of wide discussion among under the throughout the school, sharp lines drawn by Lehman are necessary, especially in view of the arrangement all around him. Principal of Tongue College, principal of distinction there. White and colored teachers eat together Holmes and warm hospitality and spirit of fairness. The greatest friend at the school.
William Holtzclaw is principal at Whitehill, a college in Lehman. Holtzclaw, in their program of no distinctions, are doing what is the norm, man, just as honest, who says that if he had his life to live all over the world, work, employs irksome distinctions between the races, which are a source of racism, does Lehman represent the spirit of Mississippi? Who kno'wa? Holtzclaw and Holmes prove, however, that race is not a source of racial distinction such as that of Lehman. Mississippi communities are small. In most of them everybody knows everybody, you know everybody, the community, that will know; if you don't mean anything, that will be known also. Your treatment of people about you, about known about you. If there are two buildings in a town and your account of either to respect you,

Traveling hundreds of miles by automobile, I found that when you board a train, you are usually just aside like anybody else. Sometimes they would race with you, but you would pass their shanties and cabins, would wave at you, if they didn't return the greeting. If whites find themselves in a train from town, they will ask you if you want to ride. If you have trouble with your car, you will stop to get a ride. Of course, deep down under all this surface, you suppose we wait until next week to consider some of the circumstances which result in lynchings.

ILLINOIS MAID CROWNED QUEEN IN BEAUTY RACE
New York City.—One of the most interesting of the gala occasions in Harlem was the presentation ceremony at the Alhambra Theatre, recently, when Marie Ferguson of N.Y. won the prize for "Queen of Beauty," following her selection as the "Nelson Girl" for 1922. Celestine Holt of Rochester, N.Y. winner of the second prize, was an enthusiastic ovation was accepted. The two beautiful girls who smiled their thanks and accepted their honors with petals were recorded by the Nelson beauty contest were selected from hundreds of beautiful girls from all parts of the country. The Nelson beauty graphs to the Nelson Manufacturing Company of Richmond, Va., manufacturers of Nelson's Hair Dressing. The prizes were selected from the New York News, who was introduced by Milton Godofor, manager of the Alhambra Theatre, presented the prizes to the two best winners. Marie Ferguson, first prize winner, while Celestine Holt presented a two week's contract to appear on the stage of the Alhambra Theatre, while Celestine Holt presented a $100 gift.
Because of pressure of social engagements in the West, Marie Ferreira monally relinquished her right to the theatrical engagement and this honor was conferred upon the second prize winner. A cash prize of $50 has been sent to Luelie J. Phelpe of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, winner of the third prize. More than a hundred prize medals were awarded to prize winners in local units. The Nelson beauty contest has been one of the most successful efforts of the country. While it has its value and value to the race in the tremendous interest it has aroused in the part of better appearance, and the part that has been developed of personal charm.

WILEY COLLEGE
RURAL PASTORS
WILL STUDY AT
WILEY COLLEGE
Marsall, Tex.—"Wiley welcomes the rural pastors school to be held at this institution July 2-12." These were the words in which President Bush called the pastors school, Morris, dean of the school of practical methods for town and rural communities, of the co-operation that may be expected from the entire Wiley summer school school for pastors a success. Wiley was the original school, but for apparently good reasons it was transferred to Austin. While the institution there did everything within its purposes of the movement, the governing body of the town and rural pastors school was transferred to Wiley, possibly because of the superior facilities and natural conditions of such an undertaking. Wiley is now in position to help push this religious education department firmly established on a systematic basis of the religious education worker. Wiley stands in a position to be of great help to the pastors analyzing their community problem.
Every convenience will be furnished who come to this summer school program. The best faculty will be made available for teaching the prescribed courses: addition, the department of sociology, the department of school may be correlated for duty in providing lectures on the educational needs as a background for the application. Dr. R. G. Morris and his corps of teachers have been especially trained in this field and are prepared to give them useful information for their various needs.

HOUSTON, TEXAS (SATURDAY, JULY 7, 1928)
OUR POSITION STILL UNCHANGED
It appears that the article in last week's Informer, captioned "Democrats Cage Negroes," rather incensed and infuriated one or two of the ebony-hued brothers who voluntarily submitted to this most pernicious and damnable species of jim-crowm and segregation in order to attend some of the sessions of the Democratic National Convention for "ferocious" and "caged blacks" has attempted to justify his acceptance of such arrangement by citing the fact that he has been in Houston and the South all his days; that he and every sensible Negro knows the Southern method of separating the white and colored races at such public affairs; that he does not care to be considered a "radical" and subject to be run out of town for objecting to "bull pen" contraption for the few races in the United States; that he is cruel and harbantic seating arrangement in order to get a glimpse at the convention activities—where they really were not wanted nor desired.
When one beholds the puny, weak and footwearing attitude of so many of our would-be and so-called race leaders, he can readily discern why it is so difficult for Southern Negroes to get the type and character of consideration and recognition they are entitled to as American citizens!
The woman we have seen and is not here contending that blacks and whites should have sat in the same section at the Democratic National Convention, for no self-respecting and rationally minded Negro desires to intrude or force himself upon white people; but this paper grants that, in keeping with Dixie's custom and policy, a special section should have been set aside for the blacks who were anxious to attend the convention, but there was no interest in the Negroes and the wire cage as if Negroes were so dangerous, violent and savage as to warrant and make imperative this type of enclosure.
When it comes to railroad trains and common carriers, where the Negroes are compelled to endure the diabolical and despicable jim-crow arrangement and inferior accommodations, they pay the same fare as other races who get the best type of service, the acceptance of such jim-crowism and proscription, if one would want to be free from the restrictions but where it is merely a matter of pleasure and entertainment, The Informer reiterates that any Negro who voluntarily submits to this species of reprehensible jim-crowism, and then attempts to justify his actions, is either deficient in some of the finer and nobler attributes which constitute red-blooded men and races, or he is an elephantine hypocrite or a monumental prevaricator! The Negro who has met the endorsement and approval of all right-thinking, sensible and many Negroes, many of whom admitted that they attended only one session of the Democratic National Convention after observing and enduring the wired-off "bull pen" so magnanimously arranged by the local committees for the "convenience" and "protection" of the few "black Democrats" and colored spectators. The stage in their racial career when it is necessary to herd them into a wire cage in a public building like criminals and violently insane persons, then the race has reverted to a worse condition than before leaving the shores of Africa; and if our white people are so mean and prejudicial that they deem it proper and expedient to "cage" Negroes at such public meetings, then their vaunted Native civilization has been an utter failure and their boasted Christianity is nothing more than a hollow mockery and raucous noise.
Finally, the Informer did not and is not registering any objection or complaint against a special section for the lew "black Democrats" and colored spectators at the recent Democratic national parley here, but this paper did and is voicing its strenuous objections to the heavy wire cage which enclosed the "Negro roost," giving it the appearance of a jail, insane asylum or bull pen.
THERE IS ONE NEGRO IN HOUSTON, TEXAS, OR THE SOUTH, WHO CAN JUSTIFY AND ENDORSE URGE DUMBABLE AND DIABOLIC ARRANGEMENT. YOU PLEASE STEP FORTH AND PERMIT THE PUBLIC TO GAZE ON THE MOST ASININE AND PUSILLANIMOUS JACKASS EXTANT! SELLAH!
DEMOCRAT AND MOBOCRAT?
The Democratic National Convention, which convened in Houston last week and nominated Governor Alfred E. Smith of New York as presidential standard-bearer and Senator Joseph T. Robinson of Arkansas as vice-presidential candidate, truly lived up to the mantle, the Democrats chose two men of radically divergent views, though both are regarded as true representatives of their party!
For president, the Democrats are offering a Catholic, a wet and a strong advocate of the nullification of the eighteenth amendment; while their vice-presidential candidate is a Protestant, dry water is the only substance they use in the tenth and fifteenth amendments to the American constitution.
No sooner had the convention nominated him than Governor Smith wired the conclave that his views had not changed one whit on the prohibition question, and that he favored modification of the Vollead act.
The Democratic presidential candidate will seek to modify or repeal one constitutional amendment which does not suit his fancy; in taking this position Mr. Smith is fair and honest, apparently, for he avers he will support the entire constitution as long as it is the written law of the republic.
Not so with Senator Joe Robinson from our sister state, who halls from a state which believes that certain American citizens, because of creed, color or class, have no rights, either under the constitution or under the law, to be a dark day for this country, if the Democratic party could be returned to national power with this present ticket and
the chief magistrate should pass away and the Arkansas become president!
When the party leaders decided last winter to hold their quadrennial parley in Houston, The Informer took the position then in an editorial that it was a wise move on the part of the Smith party to take the initiative to make the emphasis feeling in this section, and then nominate their man in the most arid and Protestant section of the country.
That prophecy came true on the first ballot, and Mr. Smith was nominated without the Southern states jumping on the band wagon, and with many of the Dixie Democrats in the predicament of the dead Irishman who did not believe in either hell or heaven, and whose friend laughingly remarked: "Poor Pat, there he lay dressed up and nowhere to go!" In order to give the Southern inner dose of political part and patriotism, overcome the Southern opposition and bitterness to the head of the national Democratic ticket, the party leaders selected, for the first time in more than 60 years, a Southerner for second place on the ticket; and while this supposed trick might keep the "solid South" solid (it does not require much effort or political bargaining to do this, as evidenced by the South blindly following the donkey party since 1860, without one candidate having any influence on the one who being held below the Mason and Dixon line prior to 1928). The Informer wonders what will be the reaction of Northern Democrats, particularly those of African descent, to a national ticket with a Southern mobocratic representative for vice-president!
There must have been much rejoicing at Tammany Hall and the vatican when the Democrats nominated their presidential candidate here last week, and the Dixie mobocratic, nullificationists, and the right-wing, and the selection of the Arkansas solon for second place on their ticket.
Contrasted with the Republican party, which is a party of performance and "points with pride" to its accomplishments, the Democratic party is a party of protest and "views with alarm" the achievements of the "grand old party."
Furthermore, the Democratic party is a mongrel political organization, having within its ranks all types, forms and species of professed Democrat; and, because its main strength lies in the use of the right to vote, it devise ways and means to override, ignore and nullify the American constitution, the American people do not have much confidence in nor respect for the Democratic party when its comes to administering national affairs.
No man should be placed on the presidential ticket of any political party, whether for president or vice-president, who does not believe in the free and full rights of all American citizens under the provisions of the constitution; and to elevate such a man to the second highest office within the gift of the American electorate, would prove calamitous and disastrous not only to the party, but to the perpetuation and permanency of American ideals and institutions.
For presidential campaign slogans, the Informer submits these: "Hover—Harmony—Happiness!" and "Democrat and Mocator!"
LYNCHING LEAGUE'S HECTIC RACE!
Judging from recent outbreaks of mobocracy, savagery and barbarism in various Southern communities, it appears that Judge Lynch's League is in for a hectic race, and that the fight for the 1928 pennant will continue nip and tuck until the final day of the season.
Surveying that Texas has already become one of the contenders for titular honors in the 1928 gonfalon chase of the lynchocratic loop, with two mobbing outrages already on the records for the present season—one at Center and the other in "Heavenly (?) Houston"—Mississippi's entry in the circuit became jealous of its reputation and prestige gained in this national pastime during the past years, and proceeded to outdo its Texas rival by staging a double lynching bee last week, and another humiliate outrage this week, thereby assuming the lead in this noilous organization. The state's efforts to prevent the lynchings South, its promoters, exponents, defenders and adherents contended that such an organization was necessary and imperative to protect white women (note the racial identity of the women to be thus protected by this species of savagery and humnish kultur) from the criminal attacks of "black, braly brures"; that such summary and mobocratic handling of the accused culprit (even though not been established) would save the complaining witness much easier. The police attitude on the proof of any effort has been made before legislatures of Southern states to have an anti-lynching measure passed, some of these Dixie defenders of Nordic womanhood have killed the proposed legislation, many of them arguing that they would willingly and unhesitatingly lead a mob to lych "any nigger" accused of an attack upon a white woman.
The police attitude on the part of law-making and law-enforcing agencies and agents, and even of white citizens in most of the mobocratic communities and states?
Just as no earthly force can control the raging and turbulent waters of some powerful streams when it reaches or passes the flood stage, just so it has been impossible to confine lynching to the flood stage, it must be done that of attack on womanhood. Furthermore, if attacks on womanhood are to be avenged and protected by mob-violence, why are white women to be thus protected from "black brutes"? Why not employ the same hellish and heathenish methods upon white men guilty of criminal outrages upon white women and white women to be protected and "honored" by such reversals to barbarism and cannibalism, why not include all women in the avenging and protecting program? Judge Lynch's League is not maintained merely to punish those guilty or accused of criminal outrages upon white women, but the reason for the express purpose of trying to frighten, terrify and intimidate women is consequently, we find mobs lynching blacks because said blacks are in a fight with white men, as was the recent case in Mississippi; or for shooting a white man in self-defense; or in protecting and safeguarding the honor and sacredness of his home; or for "sassing" some white man, or for any imaginary wrong or evil-doing; or for killing a woman in the community participate in these mobocratic orgies, with the result that a small part of the mob; and the officers putting forth no effort to stop the players in Judge Lynch's League by firing a few shots into the crowd. Most mobsters are cowards, and a few shots fired into the avengers, a party would send them to shelter faster than the speed made by St. Louis as Colonel Lindbergh made his trans-Atlantic flight!
Unless this lynchocratic loop is outlawed by the several states and the national government, this country is going to witness some domestic and internecine disturbances which will cause every patriotic citizen to blush with shame; for no country or nation can survive part democratic, part mobocratic and part "hellocrit!" Mob-violence not only gnaws at the vitals of a democratic republic, but it undermines and overthrows the bulwarks and uproots the foundation on which a republican democracy is supposed to rest. More Lynch's League is a greater and more deadly menace to the life and peace of this country than alcoholic beverages, the national government spends millions annually in a welfare and futile effort to control the appetites of men through the force-

THE NEGRO AT KANSAS CITY

BY KELLY MILLER, Howard University, Washington, D. C.
There were fifty Negro delegates and ten alternates at the recent Renaissance Forum, a thread which the political fate are ready to clip. A goodly proportion came from Northern districts. Their interests were mainly segregated and racial. The dominant issues of prohibition and farm relief did not arouse their emotions, nor stir their enthusiasm. After the Negro representatives were shut into themselves by domiciliary segregation. The great Methodist Episcopal conference had met in the same fifty several weeks previous that state functioning Republican party now yearly state of the union. The Negro leadership, certainly not the day of Wright Cuney of the state, which states and as thrives more vicious of. Neither politics nor religion runs as deep as the color line in the purpose of the Nordic to set a social separatrix which shall open access to the North. The arithmetic. The basic question is what power he to alter or affect national elections, even under the fairness alike in education, religion, politics and social procedure, all of our bombardment does the Republic Rosevelt in his Presidency, adopted the political placing in the South.
*trestechness of the "grand old party"*
He is now holding on only by a tenuous thread which the scissors of fate are ready to clip.

The loss in the South is partially due by gains in the North. The North must delegate must needs speak with a party of minority in every state and must follow the fortune of party bounties. There is little or no latitude for raids.
And so, now we face the coming campaign with wives wide open and men with guns. We have a new set of reasons and arguments for racial support of Hoover and the Democrats, for the colon or Sunset and Grant will and away Negro votes as it did afterevolution. Extravagant prophecy of what will happen in the campaign to do for the Negro has been done to death in previous campaigns with wives who will be able to paint will be at that hate. Democracies for the Democrats and dread of South Carolina, will no longer frighten the simple. The Southern fire eaters are under Republican umbrella under Democratic umbrella.
There are sufficient sound reasons to believe that he should, in this campaign, preface Republican to the Democratic party with a message that he is no longer than Smith. But the Ngo spelled well, and he was a good leader. The one which he has used for the past forty years has lost its spell.
A colored delegate was assigned to make one of the four or five minutes of secretary Novayer. This he did credibly. I believe that this is the only instance when a Negro minister had to feed the seeding. The race undoubtedly impressed less influence upon the Kankan-like session since enfranchisement. We can hardly believe that in 1884, Hon. John L. Rynch was chosen teammate for the late Henry Lincoln Johnson had the fate of the convention in the hollow and unswerving attitude of this bold black leader that determined the tie between Roosevelt and Taft. He was the only one of luck for the ensuing eight years. What a swift descent from the poorest level of the days to the low level of this day!

But there is a darker semblance of responsibility exhibited as a dominant force in the states. Walter Cohen, the little war hero here, was dethroned in 2012 by a former personally allowed to retain his seat as a delegate may save the regime, but out of a leading colored man without courtesy or consideration. Beret lost the committeemanship in Iowa, but even his victory, but even his success in the no assurance of permanence of the situation would have relegated him to the company he forfeited to the state. South Theil-whiteies are in the ascendency. In Virginia, North Carolina, and Texas, the voice of the Negro delegates used to be heard at the Texas, where the voice of the Negro politician has given up the ghost, with no hope of resurrection.

This city needs a good live, wive-

The race owes President Harding an unrecognized political debt of $100 million lost to the Negro. When Judge Johnson nominated the national committee by Lincoln Johnson, was not a single Negro representative in that august box, he nominated a chief justicehip. But when President Harding was to turn over to Negro control the states of Mississippi and Louisiana, the national committee, Cohen who, by abnegation, gave it to the Negro, brought about his unhershing. Such is political gratitude. But the outstanding fact remains, the Negro has not brought about his unhershing.
We have no Negro newspaper in Columbus now with the exception of F. W. Oakfield, 223 N. Twenty-seventh Street, on the paper on a small scale, hoping to grow into a large metroropolitan newspaper. His sincerely hop that we will measure up to it, in time, will measure up to the Chicago Defender or the Pittsburgh
Louisiana. The national committee ship in the long run is to be a producer of an art and an industry. But when he abnegated the land, he was to the very white man who has brought about his unhorsiness. Such a place among the other nations shall never be able to take our rightful place among the other nations standing fact remains, the Negro has been practically eliminated from ment of the Volstead act; while not one penny is appropriated or expended for protecting and safeguarding the life and liberty of American citizens from the ravages and outbursts of the hellish and heathenish huns who compose the teams in the lynchocratic

In the face of this widespread evil, the American Needs needs to wake up and take such actions as to counteract and nullify these howling and hungry mobs, and to safeguard and protect race's rights as stipulated in the organic laws of this republic.
