This case emphasizes passengers in interstate traffic are not subject to the crow regulations of Southern states without equal accommodation being furnished by the railroad. The case first came to the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People in July, 1927, and the N. A. A. C. pald $100 for the taking of testimony in Florida, and asked Mr. Hays to handle the case. It was conflated by Mr. Brooks that she had purchased a Pullman ticket from New York to Orlando, Florida, and that at Jacksonville, the conductor told her to go into the jim-crow car. She refused, and further contended that the conductor telegraphed ahead to Palatka where two officers took her from the train and put her in jail. She was kept there all night and next day fined $500 and costs. Mr. Hays, after carrying the case to court, reported that the Atlantic Coast Line Railroad had offered a settlement which Mr. Brooks agreed to accept. Sheriff-In Jail For 'Overlooking' Federal Witness Penacola, F14—(ANP) Sheriff Allen Petton of Dixie County in the official custodian of Sheriff Sam Chevous of Dixie County and Tom, one of his deputies. They are under lock and key, under the federal court order, but are allowed the use of the alligator, just as the other prisoners. Sheriff Chevous and Deputy Allen are serving a sentence for contempt of court. The deputy was stationary dayly duty, as imposed by Judge B. Sheppard of the United States court. It seems that the Dixie County sheriff was first brought into contact with the federal court by the alleged disappearance of Wesley Brown, with whom the sheriff was witness was regarded as a material witness to the prosecution of while men, who in their respective communities, were involved in the case. Sheriff Chevous was asserted to have been a party to a successful court. (ANP) -Jennie Redmond Faundt, author and school representative appear in lecture at Bennett College, College Park, representative group. Miss Faundt, representative group. The Republican party and political fabric will be preserved. "If, however, a revolution occurs in the ranks of our party and a substantial machine traitorry hereafter joining them or forming alliances with them, the inevitable result will be joining them or forming possible vote by the opposing parties." Not being satisfied with charges and counter charges against Hon. Herbert Hoover, Republican presidential nominee, regarding his alleged pro-Negro attitude and relations, a former governor of Missouri, who was in a position in circulation a baseless canard that Mr. Hoover, during a visit to Mound Bayou, Mississippi, attended a colored social function and danced with a colored woman! According to this Southern fabrication, Mr. Hoover practiced "social equality" with the colored inhabitants of this exclusive region of Missouri, and the rehabilitation work subsequent to the Mississippi River flood; and therefore he is unfit to be president of the United States of America! I'm it funny how so many Smith-Democrats are denouncing and anathematizing members of their party for their intolerance towards the African-American culture, Catholic religion, while these same denouncing Democrats are exhibiting a worse form of bigotry, intolerance and hatred against both Mr. Hoover and the Negro race without any justification or reason? In branding and exposing this canard of the former Mississippi governor, Mr. Hoover is issuing a statement in which stated that Mr. Hoover only passed through Mound Bayou on his special train, and that his train only stopped at the station for 15 minutes for the former secretary of commerce, who was director of Mississippi delta rehabilitation commission, to receive an expression of the gratitude of the colored citizens in Missouri for their service, by bringing the worst disaster in the history of the "Father of Waters." However, if we had to choose between the white man—Democrat, Republican or whatnot—who dances at a social function with a colored woman, and the one who maintains immoral and illicit relations with a colored woman or girl under the cover of dark clothing, we would prefer the dancing Nordic to the one who leaves visible signs of his cohabitation with some colored woman! In this connection, the "solid South" is both the Democratic stronghold and the land of countless thousands of quadroons, ectoroons and other human products resulting from clandestine relations between white men and colored women and girls, it appears that thousands of white Dixie Democrats, who are not necessarily white, have "social equality" and the "intermingling of the two races," have not practiced and do not practice the doctrine which they preach and publicly profess to espouse. Would these "pure, spotless and unblemished" Nordic Democrats of the Southland attempt to lead one to believe that all these "bright" and "light colored" Negroes are the descendants of the white people? Do they accuse Northern Republicans of advocating and practicing "social equality," do they mean to infer or instigate that the fathers of these numerous Southern mutuates are Northern white men who have slipped into Dixieland, pulled off their "stilt," returned to their home and made it appear as if so many of our Southern Democrats of Nordic extraction are guilty of practicing "social equality" where it shows up in its worst and most shocking form? Boasting of their "superiority," it is a sad commentary upon the South when some of its "leading" white citizens and pseudosatemen resort to such tactics to inflame the minds of white Southerners against a presidential nominee of an opposing politician, and to use the politician's ignorance so that the politicians can manipulate partisan affairs to their own fancy, liking and benefit! Having maligned, misrepresented and mistreated the unfortunate and disadvantaged black race for so many years, and having almost converted the country according to taking on the role of a political leader, the race has become emboldened and is now trying to circulate damaging and spurious propaganda of the most pernicious species against one of the ablest and cleanest men in the public life of America. These same Dixie demagogues are mute and seem to lose their factional pride and have become presidential candidate, Governor Alfred Emuelman Smith, has been openly accused of mixing and mingling with Gotham blacks on terms of absolute social and political equality; and no denial has ever come from any Dixie supporter and backer of Nominee Smith that their "ideal candidate" has attended, during his past political career. When a former chief executive of a Southern state will give credence to and circulate such baseless untruths and will handle veracity so parsimoniously, one can readily see why the "solid South" remains SOLID in more ways than one! Yes, sir, between the white man who dances with a colored woman in the dark, give us the former every time! Selah! AN ALARMING HOSPITAL SITUATION Hardly before the ink was dry on last week's issue of The Informer, containing an editorial comment in "The Mirror" about the peculiar circumstances attending the death of a wounded colored man at Jefferson Davis County-City Hospital, the daily newspaper that city broadens the "mysterious" death of another colored man, who was murdered August 2 after sustaining a gunshot wound in the leg during an alleged altercation with a local police officer. According to the newspaper version, when the black man in question, who was charged with assault to murder and carrying a concealed weapon, failed to appear last Friday, October 19, in court, the judge ordered him to be courted the court that he had learned Thursday, October 18, that the wounded colored man died at this (in) famous hospital on October 8. As a result of the death of William Ingate, the Negro in question, conflicting reports have been made concerning his dismissal from the hospital. Hospital attaches contend that Ingate left the hospital after his physical condition showed signs of improvement, but that he later returned complaining about his leg giving him intense pain. According to their version, the cast was taken off the colored man's leg and it was discovered that blood poisoning had developed. Marshall, Texas.—The past week at Bishop College were devoted to and attended by many of interest. At the prayer service of the Paul Quimby-Bishop game were announced and the students abstorted all over the chapel and it was stalled for a few minutes. Another daily newspaper stated that the "records at the hospital do not show that the Negro left at any time." A bounded Negro were under arrest, why should the hospital authorities hold him to leave the institution without notifying the police department? If these hospital authorities did not know that criminal charges were hanging over the black man's head, what kind of system is in vogue at this county-city hospital? Why did the hospital authorities wait until an officer of the law permitted him to serve papers on the Negro in question before informing the police department that the prisoner was dead? Why was Ingate's death and the circumstances attending it, kept such a secret and shrouded in so much mystery? Did the Negro ever leave this hospital and if he left it, who granted the hospital attaches permission to allow a wounded patient to be held? Are the records in the colored ward of this county-city hospital kept in such a slip-shod manner that any inmate, even though charged with penal offences, can go and come at will? Considering that two Negroes have died recently at this county-city institution because of the hospital "system", as it relates to the Negro, we should not be led to believe that Davis Hospital authorities, attaches and attendants are not concerned in the physical welfare of Negroes who are committed to that institution with wounds received in fights and brawls? Sick, wounded and injured Negroes have told of waiting for hours at this county-city hospital for medical and surgical attention, and of being dismissed from the hospital before their physical condition had shown any appreciable signs of improvement. NEGRO BAPTISTS STILL RAISING HADES! According to both newspaper stories and reports from messengers who attended the session of the Baptist Missionary and Educational Convention at Sherman, last week, the long-expected and developed; and this supposed religious assembly became so disorderly and so void of the Christ-spirit that officers of the law were forced to invade the church, where the sessions were supposed to be held, and arrest several ministers and laymen. It is further stated that the white citizens of Sherman were tilted toward the church, and the deputy deputy repudiated religious leaders, while the colored inhabitants regretted the day that the convention ever came to their city. The Informer, in this editorial, is not trying to point the indicting finger at either faction, per se; but this paper considers both the white and black members of the congregation a year a reflection upon a gang of underworld gangsters, to say nothing of a body of supposed Christian ministers and laymen. The convention's program and perpetuity ought to be paramount to any man's ambitions and aspirations, and the men, who are the most important of these groups, are able and disgraceful state of denominational affairs, should be made to feel the righteous indignation of the conventional constituency. If a split has occurred in this convention, then more than one man or faction is responsible for the division; for there can be a large number of those who do not the physical presence or existence of two men or factions. Here are men professing to be followers of the Prince of Peace pulling off a disorderly orgy which challenges some of the stunts engineered by gangsters and denizens of the underworld—not only because of their involvement, but over the question of office holding and its resultant spoils. In this connection, most of the denominational splits and religious controversies have been waged as a result of fundamental differences affecting religion, but rather upon the all-important question of occupying the "chief seat" and being "the leader". Tactics, ward-heeling politicians would not resort to in order to carry their point, were invoked and employed at this religious gathering, according to some of those who attended the shameful episode at Sherman; and instead of offering prayers for divine guidance in the impending crisis, the preachers were bound to take the lead in the process of refusing. Such disgraceful stunts are outlawed, if the members constituting the local churches will place their unequivocal stamp of disapproval upon such heathenism and hellish affairs by refusing to contribute one penny to any denominational cause or activity, except their local church's maintenance and operating expenses the brooklyn church and the denominational motor is once more on all its civilization fronts of the hard-working men and women, whose blood money makes it possible for the ministers to attend these conventions and raise unadulterated hades (polite term for "hell"), to which place some of our religious leaders seem head faster than a bee-martin his hole), should learn some sense, and refuse to support, either in the church or in the public arena, until this infamy is blotted from the pages of the denominational ledger. Furthermore, it stands to reason that if these religious leaders are unable to handle the convention and steer it along a righteous and constructive course, they are wholly unfit for executing the orders upon them either as local pastors or denominational leaders. The Informer is not a religious organ as such, nor is it sectarian; but this paper is intensely interested in humanity in general and the Negro race in particular, and we know that the race can never get very far with such centrifugal leadership. If the so-called intelligent and Christian Negroes can not bury the race, they can not kill it, and then the Negro race is nothing more or less than a huge joke, and our days in the wilderness of ignorance, oppression and repression will be many and full of trouble. There is not a denominational breach which can not be healed, if the members of the various churches compose the conventions, both state and national, would show some courage and backbone and demand that the preachers cut out their hellraising and bickering and unite their forces for the salvation of the Negro race than in fighting and splitting over office and its "trumpeters."
