"Thirth time," the "brother" is literally up in the air this year as the presidential campaign is concerned, and we predict that Governor Smith, despite the Dixie demagogue and bourbon burgers, will poll the largest Negro vote of any Democratic presidential candidate in the history of this country. . . .

Southern Railroad Pays Passenger Ejected From Train
New York--Arthur Garfield Haya, who was associated with Glarence Darrow in the famous sweet case, now reports another important victory in the case of Mr. Blanch Brooks, who has just recovered $2,750 from the Atlantic Coast Line Railroad, following her expulsion in July of last year in a Pullman car at Palatka, Florida. This case emphasizes passengers in interstate traffic are not subject to the crow regulations of Southern states without equal accommodation being furnished by the railroad.
The case first came to the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People in July, 1927, and the N. A. A. C. pald $100 for the taking of testimony in Florida, and asked Mr. Hays to handle the case. It was conflated by Mr. Brooks that she had purchased a Pullman ticket from New York to Orlando, Florida, and that at Jacksonville, the conductor told her to go into the jim-crow car. She refused, and further contended that the conductor telegraphed ahead to Palatka where two officers took her from the train and put her in jail. She was kept there all night and next day fined $500 and costs.
Mr. Hays, after carrying the case to court, reported that the Atlantic Coast Line Railroad had offered a settlement which Mr. Brooks agreed to accept.

SOLID SOUTH IS URGED BY DIXIE NORDIC ORATOR
SOLID SOUTH IS URGED BY DIXIE NORDIC ORATOR
Birmingham, Ala. —(ANP)—"The Republican party controls many states in the North as a result of the Negro vote. Without that vote such states would be Democratic, as a majority of the white voters are Democrats. Without the Negro vote none would be Democratic, since Kentucky, Missouri, Maryland, and Oklahoma, would ever go Republican."
The above declaration was made last Monday morning by John H. Bankhead, white, in an address before a large gathering of white Democrats in Alabama. Mr. Bankhead urged the need for support of the entire Democratic ticket, "from president to contable, and continued:
"So long as the solidarity of the Democratic party is maintained in Alabama, racial tranquility will prevaire. The Republican party and political fabric will be preserved.
"If, however, a revolution occurs in the ranks of our party and a substantial machine traitorry hereafter joining them or forming alliances with them, the inevitable result will be joining them or forming possible vote by the opposing parties."
"The Republicans have about thirty per cent of the votes of the state. More than that proportion voted for the party, but less than that proportion. The alienation of thirty per cent of Democrats would put our party in the minority, or at least would constitute an even balance, and so we are unable to be to unable to that a deep-
The great question now confronting the American electorate is: Hoover or Smith?
On Tuesday, November 6, 1928, the American electors will go to the polls and express their preference for president of the United States for another four years.
The campaign is now getting into its final stages, with speeches and rallies in all sections of the country.
Despite the result of the presidential election, the American people will continue to pursue the even tenor of their way, and do business at the same old stands.
Whether it is publishing a newspaper, printing all types of jobs from a calling card to an encyclopaedia, the result of the election will not interfere with our business; and we shall be pleased to serve your printing needs in the most modern and best equipped plant of its kind owned and operated by the race in the entire Southwest.
People judge a professional man or woman, or business concern largely by the class of his or its stationery and printing, and all down-to-the-minute professional and business people realize the value of good printing—PUBLICITY.
Aside from our physical equipment to do that job RIGHT for you, we are also contributing our "bit" in helping to solve the race's vexing economic problem by affording decent and profitable employment to several members of the Negro race.
In proportion as you patronize and support our printing enterprise, in a like ratio will you assist and enable us to employ more members of the race in various capacities.
When in need of printing of any kind, remember that we are as near you as your telephone, and we shall be delighted to have one of our representatives call upon you and help you solve your PRINTING and PUBLICITY needs.

**Pears Republican Opposition**
"A brief survey of conditions in other states is sufficient to visualize what is likely to happen in Alabama if a serious break develops in the state, or if the state is sufficient to present the whole problem: Is there a single state in the union where the white people are about equally divided, or where the Republican party controls, which has any limitation or restriction on the white people, or where the white people out reservation to the white vote? There is none.
"Border states in the days of obsolete states, by the white majority, did not have the foresight to clarify their racial situation as the result of the reason of the influx of Southern Negroes and Northern Republicans, they cannot do it. In such states a situation inevitably will require an effort to get as many Negro votes by such means as they can. Such a situation in political recognition by both parties of the Negro group, which holds the majority of Northern states by more or less social recognition of them for political purposes by the Republicans of those

"Do our thinking people reason that if Alabama becomes a doubtful state it will be hard to win the results which universally prevail elsewhere? It can't be done. The same causes and conditions and desires in Alabama are the same in the Democratic. AMERICA'S GREATEST WEEKLY NEWSPAPER
At Baird's Field last Saturday, the Golden Eagle of Booker T. Washington High School easily defeated the team representing the Curro High School, with an almost unheard of score of 105 to 0. The boys from Curro were clearly outclassed in every department of the game, and at no time did Coach Lockhart allow his players to while the local eleven scored at will.

HOWARD BEATS MOREHOUSE IN THRILLING TILT
Washington, D. C, Oct 21—Howard defeated Morehouse this afternoon after receiving the ball from the team after an exchange of punts and a few runs at the field. Drew, Howard and a punt which he recovered. This paved the way for a touchdown by the team in the tempit for an extra point was declared good, because of Morehouse's off play.
Only fumbles and ultimately prevented Howard's scoring two other touchdowns. One occurred on the corner foww yard line. The third quarter after Rona had skirted right end for the team's yardage and 15 yards for holding. Another tough break for the home team occurred on the ball with the onhone 10-yard line. Howard was penalized 15 yards for coaching from the sideline. Howard was in danger, and the strength of Howard's forward wall and secondary defense was easily manifested by Morehouse's and in every quarter, the visitors were never in scoring position. In fact, the Cuebler Gobblers made first down.
The opposition to the Houston team was entirely too weak for the spread of the Golden Eagles. Almost every player on the team made a touchdown in the game. The team made a touchdown in the game Coach Lockett used his second and third string man Horse Wesley and third string man Horse Wesley. The game was played in record breaking games, or time out for either team. Carro taking practically all the time out that was allowed during the game.

TIGERS FAILED WILDCATS FEAST WILBERFORCE IS TO EAT BEARS; UPON DRAGOONS UNABLE TO BEAT WATKINS STAR AT WILEY FIELD FISK BULLDOGS
Thousands of volts of electricity, on their way to the day's work, pass along a shining metal thread. Around it the little claws of songbirds confidently cling—unconscious of the mighty power which it bears.
This roadside scene symbolizes one of the great products of the spirit of the light and power industry—safety—farsighted, absolute!
This great quality—this confidence that you feel in the performance of the simplest of your appliances, in the supplying of your ordinary lighting needs, is due to the fact that the men who have made the industry have been men interested firstly and foremost in their job.
Waco, Texas.—The Bishop Bear completely outlasted and outplayed the Paul Quinn Tigers in a football game, 14-0 in favor of the Bears. The Tigers eleven had the Bears in the first quarter, but Mumford would not be denied in the later stages of the encounter. The Tigers down in the later stages of the game. The outstanding feature of the game was the Waco Wattkins, Houston product, returning a punt for a touchdown. The second touchdown of the cap of Cap, Cal Fulloy was in rare form as he boooted the oval through the up-ridges for the additive kick. The kick was made by a forward pass to the end, and ended in a forfeit field and better teams to subdue. Their next game is with the Dragons of Austin, Saturday, Oct. 27. James Dorn, Houston High School object, who received his first kick from Washington coach, R. G. Lockett, was the outstanding one that was able to hold on through the Bishop line for short game. The following is a summary of men in the game:
Paul Quinn Position R.E. Bishop

repeated punts on second down. Through the entire game Morehouse was not able to gain one first down, through the line or around the ends. The visitors made only two first downs, completed forward passes, Howard's backs broke off of tine and skided the ends for a total of nine first downs. The defense was the longest of which was a 45-yard pass from Marshall to Simpson. The Morehouse players who stood out were Jeffrey and Joseph in kicking.
The light and power industry attracts men of solid scientific aptitude and trains them for the safe service of tomorrow, when most human needs shall be fulfilled by electricity.

Marshall, Texas. The Wiley Wildcats were more ferocious than the San Huntington Dragon and thus theILL. The ill-fitted, hectic grid conflict here last week. The score undoubtedly would not have been under five, and the ill-fitted, hectic grid conflict the Wiley backs around the neck. By far the San outstanding stars were the Wiley, the Wheat, and the famed Harding and Davis for Wiley. Nashville, Tenn—On an ideal football afternoon, before an estimated crowd of 3,500 football enthillants, the well-coached team from Wilberforce University stacked up against the opposing team. Neither team came on the field as a favorite, but Wilberforce had blood in their eyes because of a stinging defeat administered to them on their last journey to Nashville. The Flask team came out with a wild sight of lollipop at the same time celebrating their temporary bleachers. Many out-of-town guests from Kentucky, Indiana, Missouri, and Tennessee journeyed to jeep trailers where were amused and thrown into the spirit of the occasion by the young women cheer leaders of Fisk University.
The most hair-making point of the game was in the last quarter with one player back for a kick and Coleman, left for a kick, through the line and bleached a kick. The ball and running 15 yards, placing the ball on the field, with half-time to play Goe exited a forward pass to Cox 7 yards and gained one gain of yard. The whistle and the game ended with the ball in the force's 7-yard line, with a score of 0-0. Fisk outplayed Wilberforce 10 first down to 3.

IS AL SMITH AFRAID OF THE SOUTH?
Alfred Smith is not the first American politician for whom the Negroes of the United States have proved a most embarrassing stumbling block. Butelson has the implications of this situation been so clear to all of us that Mr. Smith is posting as liberal. His attitude toward super-power, toward non-parties appointment to office, and toward prohibition give him some color of right to this definition. Toward the greater and ever more powerful party, he is making tentative approach by increasing income and ownership of property, he is making tentative approach by increasing income and ownership of American farmer. But all this does not prove his case, and does not make his appeal to American liberals by making a more reasonable and made depriveable effort to reassure entrenched American capital that he can be will be considerable of corporations like General Motors; and that he will be behind the tariff. All this would make liberal support of Mr. Smith debateable where there can be no debate.
In 1920, Cox made no appeal to the colored vote and it was almost all white. In 1922, he even revolt again began. Davis was a Mivorate among West Virginia Northwestern, Boston lawyer, many colored voters bolted Coulson. All but this revolt began in 1923, brewing among Negroes in 1928. If Al Smith would raise a finger to American Negroes that, while he was at least white, he could not be classed as an African-American, any Democrat has ever received. For the first time in the history of the United States, colored politicians, like R. R. Church of Tennessee, refused to serve upon the colored advisory committee, and there was every sign pledged his organization against However, and there was every sign guber to reach large proportions.
Not were the reasons for this far more widespread repudiation of Coledge in 1924 when he estranged in 1928. Moreover, Hoover's alienation on them and their problem with the South African South Africa. He has said not a single public word against lynching or dislocation and uplift. When it was brought out, he was a discriminating outrageously against Negroes suffering from the racial violence he witnessed, afterward he named a Negro committee of his friends, the Negro League, and when this committee confirmed the evidences of discrimination, he refused to let the committee publish its
In addition to this, Hoover has joined in the effort to that, in with those active Southern politicians who propose, but not support, the disfranchisement, to but prevent the organization of any effective minority position in what he Negro has preserved, and to well that the disfranchisement of the blacks them into the hands of venal politicians, Colleges, Bureaus, Harding and all Republican candidates receive gladly the political support of those men in the convention. Mr. Hoover proceeds to have supported him. It was very easy to find evidence for accusing Mr. Hoover of being a vice president in public office. But the same accusations were with white politicians. There is
no reason to think that the accusations were any more true in the case of the colored Powell Howard than in the case of the white secretary to President Coldenford Howard was political organization presented, while Sleep was put in charge of the Negro political leader in the South regardless of his standing—he was a slave and brave—has been unceremoniously ousted by Howard and his lieutenant.
"Governor Smith does not have, and never has had, a Negro ethnographic museum in the state of New York under his administration this has been given to him, and given in the South, to wit: porters, janitors, charnet women, etc., things about this statement is that it is perfectly true. In all Government agencies only awarded recognizing Negroes in any way. He has twice been awarded a colored magnitude to Harlem. He has never given a Negro any major appointment. He has solemnly given his appointment to Harlem and it is doubtful he is he met personally in all his career a half dozen
At one time the leaders of his party in New York City recommended he be made head of the new Negro regiment authorized under the direction of the governor. This regiment had not been organized because of the question of colored officers. The State National Guard had no colored officers, and gave as a aid Charles Chase, none was questioned. Charles Chase was in the regular army and a West Point student, was a man not only of stained clothes but of military ability. The army would have been perfectly willing to lend him to the regiment and he would not Smith was asked to appoint him. He peremptarily refrained and placed a white man at the head of the color guard.
THE HOUSTON INFORMER, SATURDAY, OCTOBER 27, 1928
If now the Southern Democratic bloc cannot become liberal, what
URGES NEGROES TO BACK SMITH IN NEW ORLEANS
Dr. Peters criticized his race for not asking the Negro for an out asking aid of white organizations "Unless the Negro becomes more aware of the need to wait when the white race will lose patience with Negroes, the Negro squarely and given him justice, and the Nei-ness of the Negro race lies in the hands of Negroes alone and it remains for Negroes to take the sole and loyal subjects of the white race." The occasion was the eighth anniversary of the Negro's arrival in Maracay, founder who was depleted.
NEGRO ATTORNEY
DESERTS HOOVER;
BACKS DE PRIEST
Chicago, 111—(ANP)—Declarating that he did not care who was elected president and that he had heeded his connection with the Republican national committee and the Democratic national committee. Atty. Anayon Pawer, member of the executive committee of the Colored Vote's Division of the Republican national committee, and Atty. Philip High School, president over by Mr. Zachary Payn, gave every other interest in the support of Oscar DePriest for congress. Payn's attentions due to the fact that Mr. DePriest has rallied his followers to support Negro leadership and urged them to refute for vote certain Republican is for Hoover, against the Republican candidate for state's attorney, more important to him that Mr. DePriest's candidate for state's attorney or a Republican were elected to the presidency. Mr. DePriest has indicted him that he did not support Democratic candidates for election.
chance is there that the Northern Democrats will become liberal? None at all. In all States they may temporarily follow liberal principles. But nationally they must do as Smith and others do in blood racy and repudiate the simplest principles of democracy.
There are a number of hopeful voters who continue to believe that the very ineptitude of the two old parties in the Democratic and Republican triumph third party. These dreamers insist that this already unpopular party can only "agree." This is nonseason. When and where have advocates come to vow on main matters of reform? Certainly not at the birth of the Re-formation in England; at the birth of the Liberal or party in England. Widely diversely positioned into shape at successively earlier times as certain of them gain population support. By a slow process of consolidation, the party became capable in the United States because the one political party, the Democrats, can demise; it uses the political power of disfrianchise Negroes and disfrianchise a minority party that any diversion of Liberals from the Republican party simply throws in more money than was the clear case in the celebrated election of 1912. It was the largest party when at the last moment voters became convinced that a vote for Lauren a practically a vote for the Democrats.
The same situation is before us to welcome our wives for Al Smith, and many will welcome our blessing. will not let Smith take a single blessing with the Republicans. They will stand with the Republicans, for high protection, for disfurbance, for an army and army which they overwhelmingly dominate. On the other hand, the Republicans will take for Norman Thomas they throw away just as surely as when they vote Norman Thomas has no chance to should receive. 6,000,000 poplars votes. All of which shows that the Republicanism of the Negroes; it is a problem of democratic government in the United States.

SMITH MEETING FIRES CHICAGO; MORTON THERE
Hon. Ferdinand Q. Morton, civil service commissioner of New York City, will deliver a picture of the man who for eight years has guided the destiny of the city. "Never in his official life have I known Gov. Smith to do or say what he did, but in gaining the support of any group or class," it is therefore, my belief that if elected, he will not be guided by decisions by the race creed, or color of the individuals concerned," said Morton. Other speakers, including H. Willam A. Wallace, high commissioner of the U. N. Department of Justice, and Atuy Earl B. Dickson, chairman of the meeting and regional director of the Justice Department League, also gave to the audience an array of arguments Democratic.

AN INFAMOUS CANARD EXPOSED!
Not being satisfied with charges and counter charges against Hon. Herbert Hoover, Republican presidential nominee, regarding his alleged pro-Negro attitude and relations, a former governor of Missouri, who was in a position in circulation a baseless canard that Mr. Hoover, during a visit to Mound Bayou, Mississippi, attended a colored social function and danced with a colored woman!
According to this Southern fabrication, Mr. Hoover practiced "social equality" with the colored inhabitants of this exclusive region of Missouri, and the rehabilitation work subsequent to the Mississippi River flood; and therefore he is unfit to be president of the United States of America!
I'm it funny how so many Smith-Democrats are denouncing and anathematizing members of their party for their intolerance towards the African-American culture, Catholic religion, while these same denouncing Democrats are exhibiting a worse form of bigotry, intolerance and hatred against both Mr. Hoover and the Negro race without any justification or reason?
In branding and exposing this canard of the former Mississippi governor, Mr. Hoover is issuing a statement in which stated that Mr. Hoover only passed through Mound Bayou on his special train, and that his train only stopped at the station for 15 minutes for the former secretary of commerce, who was director of Mississippi delta rehabilitation commission, to receive an expression of the gratitude of the colored citizens in Missouri for their service, by bringing the worst disaster in the history of the "Father of Waters."
However, if we had to choose between the white man—Democrat, Republican or whatnot—who dances at a social function with a colored woman, and the one who maintains immoral and illicit relations with a colored woman or girl under the cover of dark clothing, we would prefer the dancing Nordic to the one who leaves visible signs of his cohabitation with some colored woman!
In this connection, the "solid South" is both the Democratic stronghold and the land of countless thousands of quadroons, ectoroons and other human products resulting from clandestine relations between white men and colored women and girls, it appears that thousands of white Dixie Democrats, who are not necessarily white, have "social equality" and the "intermingling of the two races," have not practiced and do not practice the doctrine which they preach and publicly profess to espouse.
Would these "pure, spotless and unblemished" Nordic Democrats of the Southland attempt to lead one to believe that all these "bright" and "light colored" Negroes are the descendants of the white people? Do they accuse Northern Republicans of advocating and practicing "social equality," do they mean to infer or instigate that the fathers of these numerous Southern mutuates are Northern white men who have slipped into Dixieland, pulled off their "stilt," returned to their home and made it appear as if so many of our Southern Democrats of Nordic extraction are guilty of practicing "social equality" where it shows up in its worst and most shocking form?
Boasting of their "superiority," it is a sad commentary upon the South when some of its "leading" white citizens and pseudosatemen resort to such tactics to inflame the minds of white Southerners against a presidential nominee of an opposing politician, and to use the politician's ignorance so that the politicians can manipulate partisan affairs to their own fancy, liking and benefit! Having maligned, misrepresented and mistreated the unfortunate and disadvantaged black race for so many years, and having almost converted the country according to taking on the role of a political leader, the race has become emboldened and is now trying to circulate damaging and spurious propaganda of the most pernicious species against one of the ablest and cleanest men in the public life of America. These same Dixie demagogues are mute and seem to lose their factional pride and have become presidential candidate, Governor Alfred Emuelman Smith, has been openly accused of mixing and mingling with Gotham blacks on terms of absolute social and political equality; and no denial has ever come from any Dixie supporter and backer of Nominee Smith that their "ideal candidate" has attended, during his past political career. When a former chief executive of a Southern state will give credence to and circulate such baseless untruths and will handle veracity so parsimoniously, one can readily see why the "solid South" remains SOLID in more ways than one! Yes, sir, between the white man who dances with a colored woman in the dark, give us the former every time! Selah!
AN ALARMING HOSPITAL SITUATION
Hardly before the ink was dry on last week's issue of The Informer, containing an editorial comment in "The Mirror" about the peculiar circumstances attending the death of a wounded colored man at Jefferson Davis County-City Hospital, the daily newspaper that city broadens the "mysterious" death of another colored man, who was murdered August 2 after sustaining a gunshot wound in the leg during an alleged altercation with a local police officer.
According to the newspaper version, when the black man in question, who was charged with assault to murder and carrying a concealed weapon, failed to appear last Friday, October 19, in court, the judge ordered him to be courted the court that he had learned Thursday, October 18, that the wounded colored man died at this (in) famous hospital on October 8.
As a result of the death of William Ingate, the Negro in question, conflicting reports have been made concerning his dismissal from the hospital. Hospital attaches contend that Ingate left the hospital after his physical condition showed signs of improvement, but that he later returned complaining about his leg giving him intense pain.
According to their version, the cast was taken off the colored man's leg and it was discovered that blood poisoning had developed.
One of the hospital surgeons stated, according to newspaper reports, that Ingate died from the effect of an anesthesia, which

Would you be so condescending as to stoop with the recipe or modus operandi?
During the Democratic National Convention, held in Houston during the week preceded by a lynching bee on the outskirts of the city by a gang of black men, the blind solon from Oklahoma, received thunderous applause and a fiery endorsement. The Democratic party's policy of racial segregation; showing that delegated and visitor seats were an hourly affair. Listen to this blind Democratic speaker from the Sooner States. "The Democratic party has never been so aggressive," the Democratic party introduced segregation, a and the Democratic party will be held in the state on Monday. In the back of this convention and you will find a segregated section booth. The Oklahoma solon was alluring to the "CAGE" which the leaders of the party have colored spectacles, name have been screened off with chicken wire, cut off when appeared in last week's election.
While it may be true that the Democrat party, per as, "has never kissed him," it is true that this much can not be said truthfully about some of our South Carolina voters, "kissed somebodies" in the dark; but observing the various tints and hues in this human-rainbow race of our South Carolina voters in the dark," and we don't mean him. Of course, the senator has no visible eyesight, and we presume he was or is unaware of the glaring fact that he is on the part of many of his Southern Democratic colleagues with perceptions of American race and Democratic party! It is a mighty poor American who kissed him, and understanding the constitution and undermining the constitutional of American ideals and institutions.
Marshall, Texas.—The past week at Bishop College were devoted to and attended by many of interest. At the prayer service of the Paul Quimby-Bishop game were announced and the students abstorted all over the chapel and it was stalled for a few minutes. A came back Friday morning before day three of the entire college at breakfast. Trainer L. G. Alexander gave a short description of the chapel service. Friday night a program was held by the quarter. Saturday night was given over by students at the Wiley-Sun-Huron game at Wildcat Field. Many of the students made the trip from the Capital City, visited Bishop. President D. C. was administered as a preliminary to a surgical operation of some nature.
Another daily newspaper stated that the "records at the hospital do not show that the Negro left at any time."
A bounded Negro were under arrest, why should the hospital authorities hold him to leave the institution without notifying the police department?
If these hospital authorities did not know that criminal charges were hanging over the black man's head, what kind of system is in vogue at this county-city hospital?
Why did the hospital authorities wait until an officer of the law permitted him to serve papers on the Negro in question before informing the police department that the prisoner was dead?
Why was Ingate's death and the circumstances attending it, kept such a secret and shrouded in so much mystery?
Did the Negro ever leave this hospital and if he left it, who granted the hospital attaches permission to allow a wounded patient to be held?
Are the records in the colored ward of this county-city hospital kept in such a slip-shod manner that any inmate, even though charged with penal offences, can go and come at will?
Considering that two Negroes have died recently at this county-city institution because of the hospital "system", as it relates to the Negro, we should not be led to believe that Davis Hospital authorities, attaches and attendants are not concerned in the physical welfare of Negroes who are committed to that institution with wounds received in fights and brawls?
Sick, wounded and injured Negroes have told of waiting for hours at this county-city hospital for medical and surgical attention, and of being dismissed from the hospital before their physical condition had shown any appreciable signs of improvement.
NEGRO BAPTISTS STILL RAISING HADES!
According to both newspaper stories and reports from messengers who attended the session of the Baptist Missionary and Educational Convention at Sherman, last week, the long-expected and developed; and this supposed religious assembly became so disorderly and so void of the Christ-spirit that officers of the law were forced to invade the church, where the sessions were supposed to be held, and arrest several ministers and laymen. It is further stated that the white citizens of Sherman were tilted toward the church, and the deputy deputy repudiated religious leaders, while the colored inhabitants regretted the day that the convention ever came to their city.
The Informer, in this editorial, is not trying to point the indicting finger at either faction, per se; but this paper considers both the white and black members of the congregation a year a reflection upon a gang of underworld gangsters, to say nothing of a body of supposed Christian ministers and laymen. The convention's program and perpetuity ought to be paramount to any man's ambitions and aspirations, and the men, who are the most important of these groups, are able and disgraceful state of denominational affairs, should be made to feel the righteous indignation of the conventional constituency.
If a split has occurred in this convention, then more than one man or faction is responsible for the division; for there can be a large number of those who do not the physical presence or existence of two men or factions.
Here are men professing to be followers of the Prince of Peace pulling off a disorderly orgy which challenges some of the stunts engineered by gangsters and denizens of the underworld—not only because of their involvement, but over the question of office holding and its resultant spoils.
In this connection, most of the denominational splits and religious controversies have been waged as a result of fundamental differences affecting religion, but rather upon the all-important question of occupying the "chief seat" and being "the leader". Tactics, ward-heeling politicians would not resort to in order to carry their point, were invoked and employed at this religious gathering, according to some of those who attended the shameful episode at Sherman; and instead of offering prayers for divine guidance in the impending crisis, the preachers were bound to take the lead in the process of refusing. Such disgraceful stunts are outlawed, if the members constituting the local churches will place their unequivocal stamp of disapproval upon such heathenism and hellish affairs by refusing to contribute one penny to any denominational cause or activity, except their local church's maintenance and operating expenses the brooklyn church and the denominational motor is once more on all its civilization fronts of the hard-working men and women, whose blood money makes it possible for the ministers to attend these conventions and raise unadulterated hades (polite term for "hell"), to which place some of our religious leaders seem head faster than a bee-martin his hole), should learn some sense, and refuse to support, either in the church or in the public arena, until this infamy is blotted from the pages of the denominational ledger. Furthermore, it stands to reason that if these religious leaders are unable to handle the convention and steer it along a righteous and constructive course, they are wholly unfit for executing the orders upon them either as local pastors or denominational leaders.
The Informer is not a religious organ as such, nor is it sectarian; but this paper is intensely interested in humanity in general and the Negro race in particular, and we know that the race can never get very far with such centrifugal leadership. If the so-called intelligent and Christian Negroes can not bury the race, they can not kill it, and then the Negro race is nothing more or less than a huge joke, and our days in the wilderness of ignorance, oppression and repression will be many and full of trouble.
There is not a denominational breach which can not be healed, if the members of the various churches compose the conventions, both state and national, would show some courage and backbone and demand that the preachers cut out their hellraising and bickering and unite their forces for the salvation of the Negro race than in fighting and splitting over office and its "trumpeters."
