Beginning with last week's issue,
The informer added an illustrated
feature section, consisting of sixteen
pages, model of interacting, instructive
and illuminating information,
making this the largest colored week-
ly newspaper published in Houston
and South Texas.
The Informer is a member of a chain of eightree race publications, which bida fair to become very popular information height and education. Serial and educational gripping love themes, from the pans of leading race authors, will provide information who like such features. Then there are suggestions for improving and beautifying health and beauty of beautiful women of the race, national advertising, book chats, weekly normals, latest style creations, and other items of interest to the average reader. Though the title of The Informer has considerably increased by the addition of this sixteen-page illustrated feature section, the price of the book has gone down, same-as least for the present time. Since this special section will feature the comedy ring and charming stories of the race, use such photographs to advantage, and we ask that such pictures be turned into a book. The Editor Illustrated Feature Section, The Houston Informer, Houston, Texas, or bring or send them to our office, will be helpful. There are no financial obligations incurred by Race authors of short stories, serial stories, features of Negro life, etc., are urged to forward them to the editor. All other any valuable information. There are no financial obligations incurred by Race authors of short stories, serial stories, features of Negro life, etc., are urged to forward them to the editor. Feature Editor, Houston, Texas. If you think well of this added feature, tell others (and us too); if you think well of it, tell us (and not others!)
Since the Informer began to expose the inhuman treatment accorded so many colony-raised animals to City Hospital, this paper has been given quite a bit of additional information concerning the shocking and shameful manner in which the animals were treated, particularly "charity patients," are handled and treated at this supposed elemenary institution operated jointly by the county and municipal govern-
Apropos of the colored man who died there without ever receiving any medical attention (whose tragic and unfortunate death occurred in these columns last week), information has reached us that he was merely strapped to the bed when he entered this hospital and that nothing else came for or to him until he was away.
We have been informed also that a colored lad, who had stuck a nail in his foot, was admitted to the hospital until his foot became swollen from infection; that the beds are filthy, being infested with bacteria, and that the literally hold a field meet and high carnival in the colored ward. The patients are often forced to suffer for several days before getting any type of medical or surgical treatment, usually because the crowded that they must wait until room can be made for them, despite the fact that they are already coming to the institution's charge and keeping.
One colored citizen, who visited and inspected the color bar, wielded a knife in a county jail, declared that it "looked more like a dog gun than a hospital," and that the type of treatment it received was a disgrace to the community and social order.
Said another person: "I can't see for the first time a person, with one spark of humanity in his or her breast, can mistreat helpless and vulnerable individuals to attentions Negroes at the Jefferson Davis Hospital. If this is their method of exterminating the Negro population, then they have been made at this county-supplied morgue home. If this is humanity, civilization and Christianity, then may the Lord have mercy upon the men."

Congressman Dj Priest was the first member of the Negro race to serve Chicago, the first to be elected to Chicago, (1915-17) and he has also served as county commissioner from Chicago. He is a native of Alabama, where he learned the painter's trade, which he first came to the Widy City. He, too, has heldings now and is one of Chicago's most substantial colored citizens.
McLEMORE LOSES CONGRESS RACE; DYER IS VICTOR
St. Louis, Mo.—(ANP)—Despite that the district is heavily populated with the Attorney Jeff McLemore, colored. Democratic nominee for United States congress, lost in his race for the seat now occupying Congressman Leonidas C. Dyer of Chicago, an anti-lynching measure which he has used as a political vehicle to entrench himself in the lower house of congress for several terms.
McLemore received 17,000 votes, while Dyer received 14,000 votes. McLemore formerly lived in Galveston, Texas, coming to St. Louis in 1915 and emulating in the practice of law.
It appears, from the election returns in this congressional district refused to forget party lines, and lost an opportunity to send a gift of the highest legislative body in the world.
The colored men were elected to the St. Louis district: Waltlah Moose, serving his fourth term, and Attorney G. M. Allen serving his first term.

NOVEL FEATURES
New York—(ANP)—"Harlem," a forum of Negro life, is a new independent monthly magazine, the initial issue of which will appear during the first week of November. This issue will contain a number of articles, including "The Harlem," many well-known and prominent Negro writers. Walter White, assistant secretary of the N. A. A. C. P. A., and author of two novels, "The Fire In The Flint" and "Flight," contributes an article to the Negro Voice? in which he discusses the attitude of both of the old parties toward Negroes. Mr. White suggests that it is far better that the Negro marshal his vote for local purposes than to be concerned immediately with the presidential election. He also says that the Negro is slovenly or easily corrupted voter.
in the same issue, Alain Luker, professor of philosophy at Howard University, and editor of "The New Ngro," writes on "Art of Proganism," which he has taught through art the Ngro will find a new means of comatating race prejudice. Also in this issue there will be a short story by Langton Hughes, author of "The Blues" and "Fine Clues to the Jewry." New York.—(ANP) There is need for a medical missionary movement in American Medicine. Possibly it might migrate more definitely the need of a medical missionary movement in the United States. The mortality facts that stand out in the mortality rates of the registration of the registration States during 1925, the writer adds, are "The mortality rate of the colored population of the United States," he wrote. "The mortality rate of the comparison with that of the white population. In the registration area of 1925 the mortality rates during 1925 the mortality rate of the registration population was 11.2 for the white and black for the colored, and these figures as the registration States as a whole.
"In the cities in the registration states, however, the mortality rate for infants is 23.5 for the colored. This is in sharp contrast with the figures for the rurals in the registration states, where the mortality rate was 10.2 and colored 15.2. The dynamic factors at present exist further exemplified in the mortality rates in registration cities in the non-colored states, where the mortality was 13 and colored 23.4. It is unnecessary to go into specific details concerning these variations in mortality rates in the colored mortality rate is entirely out of harmony with what would be properly employed and if there were already afflicted with disease. The fact that the major disproportion in these mortality rates exists in cities indiscriminately, the medicalization of health work in large cities.

Farm Home
The home of the farmer and his family should be placed in its building arrangement and in its care. It should be of sufficient size, and contain a surfboard, a table, and a chair. It will not be a crowded condition for its inmates and for occasional visits of the farmer. It should be conveniently arranged, well-lit, well-ventilated, and capable of accommodating all that rooms may furnish a maximum amount of comfort during any visit. It should be able to ploy of pure water, well protected from insects, vermin, and other objective hazards. It should man and beast. All wide-awake and thoughtful business men desire their look attractive, so should the farmer.
More might be said along this line, but so much for the physical status of the farmer and his family. With comfortable headquarters, the morale and membership is heightened and increased.

Perhaps one of the most serious allegations against the farmer as a businessman does not put in enough time at work, not that he does not work well with him, but that he does not work enough days during the year, that while for a few days at a time, he does not work enough days may be very busy, there are not enough such days throughout the year.
Think of a merchant who would keep open store for say only one half hour a day, and soon would lose customers and business so he would be forced to close up. So the business of physician, a lawyer, an insurance company, an investment company, but our farmers too often do not stay on the job long enough, and do not get the best results while on the job.

"Darling," he begged, "will you mar me now?" They were sitting in the parlor with only candle throwing fifty rays over the red plush furniture, and shadowing play in the corners.
When a child a cloud could unmask the face of the little moon and let his rays illuminate the room.
A gentle breeze off the Mississippi River lazily wafed the curtains, while the smell of the pine woods pervaded the room.
She clung close to her black hair touching his chest. Roc curled her soft, plump arm about Henry's neck and whispered low and sweet, "Yea, darling."
To these two young people it seemed that the millennium had come, for their happiness was exquisite.
Rose had found her ideal and Henry had found his.

Texas had an increase of 45 per cent in its natural gas production in 1897. Texas consumes in its milled only about 20 per cent of the cotton grown in the state.

BEARCATS QUIT GRIDIRON HERE; EAGLES VICTOR
This was the first victory won by Houston team from the Bearcats, forcefully when it was apparent that the Islanders could not win as they had so conceived, and so seveens poor sports by quitting the field and refusing to continue the game, which they would have lost, as the Bearcats and the Bearcats had only been able to make two first downs all afternoon, and the Bearcats had only been able to constant aquabaled. After nearly every close play, the players would swarm around the referee, the University grid star, and ever long both coaches would be called upon the field with a repulsed kick. Further delay was occasioned by the umpire, Dr. C. W. Permanent, being forcefully repulsed to hold up the injured gridster, one Bearcats suffering a gridster, one Bearcats suffering a gridster, one Bearcats, coached at half 312 and held at 30. While the Golden Eagles won the game, they did not flash any smart stuff to cluov and annihilate the Gail

STATE COLLEGE
IN LAST MINUTE
(B. C. F. RICHARDSON, Sr.)
Prairie View, Texas - Outplayed in every department of the game except in the scoring end, which is the main thing in the final analysis, the Langton University Tigerang, Tangson, Oklahoma, tied the Prairie View College University. The undoing of the state gridders was caused by two long forward passes hurried to "Crib," ebony-hued Indian on the Sooner eleven, whose catch of a three Panthers made the score 19-18 in favor of Prairie View. The extra point was then added, and the game ended in a 19-19 deadlock. The minutes of the first quarter, before the Panthers had gotten over their "stage right" and old machine had to function in a new way, with two touchdowns one by a short pass behind the line and the Panthers' View fumble and a subsequent plunge into the extra failed. Each try for the extra failed.
As the event was home-going day graduates and former students of the Panthers, they were given numbers, and many of them began to vision a complete rout of the Panthers for power and tenacity, and no Texas eleven has ever been able to emerge victor in a clash with the Oktahomans. In the second quarter, aided by the line plunging of Marks, Prairie View's big pandas down the gridiron, resulting in two touchdowns and the extra point after one touchdown. The first touchdown was score 13-12 in Prairie View's favor. The third quarter resolved itself largely into a pouting contest, with the Panthers winning 13-12, but near the end of the third spasm the Panthers across the gridiron broke loose, with students, alumni, undergraduates and spectators reading the air with shouts and

DEVOUR STEERS;
BOLDEN IS STAR
(B. C. F. RICHARDSON, Jr.)
Marshall, Texas — The *B-i*-the *B-i*-beaars, although weakened by the loss of Captain Flipcare, *Joel Wilson*, and defended the highly-touched Texas College Steers have lain Saturday afternoon without the void of the type of football that the Bishop team is capable of performing Both touchdowns were made by the Bishop team, the pilder driver Beaulack
"Rose" Henderson gave several exhibitions of lightning- like broken field goals, and he was witnessed before on Bishop Field this year. Roberts and "Slim" Will "Tekson" Wilson of the outstanding linemen of the game
"Tekson" Wilson of the Steers gave many a thrill and scape with his pawns. He yards 70. he also hit the Bishop forward wall for repeated gains. He earned the win, and he was his judgment alone that saved the Steers from further passing. and his unhappy passing. But the Beaulack been trained to meet the same and only about four teams were coming up.
Couch Mumfrey is still drilling his barges and trying to get them ready for the game. View Panthers, at Prairie View, Monday, November 12, which bids fair to be about the toughest game on Bisha. The team is clean, without a defeat or tie, and the Bears have sworn to continue with it during the condition until the end of the season.

PANTHERS DRILL FOR BISHOP TILT MONDAY, NOV. 12
Prairie View, Texas—The Prairie View Panthers are being drilled hard at first conference encounter of 1928 Blackshield Field, Monday, Nov. 12, 2015. The Panthers are strong aggregation, having disposed of their opponents to date by decisive concen-trating upon the Bear's style of phasis to the Panthers attack and defense. The P. V. coaching staff is con-ferent with the Panthers' altit. It is felt that the Panthers will be released in the game with their ancient rivals in good physique. "Hog Davis," the vicious driving man in his uniforms, is the Capitol "Bull" supported by "Tiny" Banks, "Bulldog" Moseley and other linemen in the backfield against the visitors, while Cap J. Mark, "Doll" Lewin "Buffalo" (Dallas) Turner and Rolling Stone Museum in the backfield. Information needs to show that Dane Fabian will make her official winter ball at this game, as hundreds of Bishop and Prairie View players will grace Blackshield Field with their presence. The occasion promises all that attends such annual classic games.

(By V. DELLUMS)
Dallas, Texas. — The Jackson Bears of Washington High Bulldogs played a game at the Fair Park Stadium last week, where the brilliant play was featured by 80 yards and a touchdown and the most brilliant run of Andrews for an 87-yard run. Both men are Dallasites. The running of Quince and Hardee did not make as long a run as the Dallasites but they constantly broke Dallas' Hardee of Corsicana and of Hill Dallas was also a feature. The game while the previous game played in Corsicana was a practice game. Outside and Andrews, Dallas never threatened to score but Jackson from beginning to end young backend, also broke through Dallas' line for constant gains.

IN ILLUSTRATED SECTION
Being indoised with a cold Tuesday, I stayed home from school, and stalking around looking over Sunday's Illustrated Feature Section and looking through it I found, to my great joy, I read every article it contained, and liked best "Negro Questions" because they help me to learn more about the world, not know all the questions, had to look them up and that made it very interesting. I am impatiently awaiting next week's issue.

CANADA TO FORCE
MARCUS GARVEY TO
LEAVE ITS CONFINES
Quebec, Canada — (ANP) — Marcus Garvey, his Harvard president of the University, was scheduled to leave here for his home in Jamaica Saturday as a guest of the government stamping Garvey as an undisable visitor and decreeing that Mr. Garvey had just arrived here from England. Garvey was to remain in Canada and direct the work of his organization among the people to reside in Canada and direct the work of his organization among the people. His first action was to make a public recommendation that the Garvey should be allowed to live in Canada, where Garvey declared that Mr. Smith was a more human man and Smith was a more human man and whereas Hoover represented the clans of the fort which Hoover had given interests which were exploiting Liberia would set that country back one hundred
What Mr. Garvey's next step will be is uncertain. After his release from prison, Mr. Garvey was deported to his home, but later went to England, where he has been speaking to unsympathetic authorities. He is the most fruitful field for his labor, but there does not seem to be any way for him to get close enough to any effect. The Bernaula crop of Texas is valued at almost 400,000 a year.

HOOVER--
ers in the agrarian region of the Middle West) in his pocket. Howver Emerged Game's Star Republican Coach Hickory Work made him a straight-fighter, straight football, and that Smith and his team had neither a defense nor a strategy to exhibit any of their "tricky plays." He further aided that, in the face of the Republican team, it was impossible to keep the former secretary of commerce off the all-American political football eleven of all the states. As the return came pouring in when the first tabulations were made, the Republican presidential defeat of the Democratic presidential ticket was imminent, and after the defeat, leaders were only concerned in the size of the score; for the outcome of the contest was over in doubt after the first round.
National Race Leaders Pleased
Despite disaffection of many colored Americans to the Smith camp; depedicate the officers; undeline, neglect the injection of the "race issue" into the campaign and the office; antipathy, the office and antipathy, the Colored War Division—headed by John R. Hawkins of Washington as chairman, Alcorn of Maryland and Robert L. Vann of Pittsburgh as director of publicity, with the assistance of a dedicated assistant—was delighted with the support accorded the winning candidate in the Negro race throughout America.
Smith's Paradoxical Situation
Polling the largest poplar vote ever recounted any time in the state, practically 13,000,000 votes, Governor Smith has than far made the most morrowful showing in the state's history in his party. Hoover's poplar vote is approaching the 19,000,000 mark, with 84 percent of the voters having triumphed in 40 of the 48 states, including several states in the north, Virginia, North Carolina, Oklahoma, Tennessee, Kentucky, and Texas. Thus the defeated Gohman government has won two states in the Democratic section stronghold and two other states, givin him only 87 votes in the electoral college.
Hoover Leading In Texas
Latest returns from the Texas Ballot Board indicate the Texas will be the first time in its history. At hour of going to presenlce Hover's vote was 301, of which 284 received, with 284,325, giving the presenlce elect a 17,512 lead over Smith with 250 of the state's 252 counties. In Harris County the Hover majority is close to the 4,000 mark, and in Harris County that Hover would carry Houston and Harris County, and probably the Lone Rock county, and electors of the city, county and state.
Wurshack Leading Opponent
The closest congressional race in the state's history was held in the Fourth District of Pennsylvania by Harry M. Wurzach of Signia, running for a seat in the house of represen-
tation. He was defeated stiff opposition from Judge August McCloskey of San Antonio, Democrat of Democratic adversary for seven hours, the Republican congressional candidate.
Greene, Prairie View, and Mrs. Iola W. Rowan, Nacogdoches.
Departmental Meetings Second Day
The whole of the afternoon of the second day will be given over to the conductors. The conductors have been announced as follows: Home economics, Miss. K. May, Prairie View; health, Dr. D. Fowler; business, Dr. Fowler; workers, Mrs. Iola J. Lee; colleges, Dr. M. W. Dogs; high schools, Prof. Joseph J. Rhonda; schools, Prof. W. L. Davis, Houston.
Memberships Being Collected
According to reports coming from the office of Executive Secretary J. Roberts, the office of Miss Ellie A. Walls, secretary-treasurer, Houston, all indications point to the beginning of the meeting. Receipt books for collectors have been sent to nearly 100 persons by the executive secretary. To that office indicate that the work is progressing rapidly. Already many collectors are working hard to surpass the record of last year, when the opening session of the association

W. Rice. The certificates are already on hand and will be sent to the office next ten days. Others who are desiring of attending the meeting may be given a certificate directly to the office of the executive secretary. The official committees, through Prof. H. J. Mason, indicate that everything will be in readiness for the meeting. The committee will make this the most opportune meeting in the history of the organization.
night, when the count was Wurzbach had 28,091 votes and McCheney had an ally majority of 64 for Wurzbach.
Nearroes Balance of Power
Prior to the election The Informer imitated that the colored vote would be presidential race in Texas; that if the Republicans could corral the black Texas would 'be rayw; that if the Democrats could woe the "brother of how," Smith's chance would be good. From results, particularly in center populations, the Negroes of the state, with few exceptions, voted for the black race, and if these race voters had been organized and an intensive campaign reportedly suggested and contended, Heover's majority in Texas would now exceed the 50,000 mark, vote which proved the balance of power, resulting in Texas going Republican, for the first time in its history.
HAWKINS
There is no cause for rancor or hitteriness. anywhere. We are in earnest about the virtue of our cause and championed it with all the fervor of our side. We are in earnest about our side is due largely to the very fine way it which the cause has been presented and the splendid teamwork of our organization. "The work of the cause is most commendable. Through this we have quietly informed us to the injustice involved and given an opportunity to ballots for those deemed most worthy to be intrusted with affairs of state. "Our elevation of Herbert A. Moore, a United States means a continuation of those polls which have brought opportunity to voters. I highly believe uthers in a new era of cio growth and opportunity for the N-4000 and faces to the future and do all we can to make this administration one of

FOR COLORED PEOPLE
upon good ground"
The Sower, in the parable, cast his seed to the winds of heaven.
That which landed among the stones, the thorns and in the barren places, perished.
Only the seeds which reached the good ground had a chance to grow.
The modern advertiser does not strew his seed of malaismhip to the winds.
He plants it carefully in the "good ground"—in the places where because of favorable conditions it has a chance to bear a harvest of consumer results.
He uses newspaper advertising because the market is likely by the markets which he knows, upon careful investigation, to be right places for his product to flourish.

TRAVELING LIGHT
Traveling loses half its joy when
we are burdened by heavy luggage—
travel light!
The combersome trifles that we
take about are rarely needed. Even
new friends of the day for
winter is at hand—they travel light.
At night, sleep would be more easily

victims of the war.
Our barks are broken and some
our hearts, by the carring of
needless burdens—we should travel light.

AMERICANISM’S SIGNAL VICTORY!
‘The sweeping victory of Herbert C. Hoover, Republican presi-
‘dential nominee, over Governor Alfred E. Smith, Democratic pres-
dential standard-bearer, was not only a triumph for the Republi

‘avsignal victory for Americanism and democracy (in its larger

“Arrayed against the Republican presidential nominee were many
bigots and nullificationists who regard Americanism as an ex-

While the Houston Community Chest drive for 1929, which
closed last Saturday evening, exceeded the $514,000 goal by some

The boll weevil was playing havoc with the crops and because of this a large number of their colored friends and customers had left the surrounding country to go to New Orleans, Houston, Dallas, Birmingham, St. Louis and Chicago. Naturally the sales at the store fell off.
Then, to make it worse, came the great flood. Being situated very close to the Mississippi and one of its bayous, Plaquemine and the district around it did not escape. The Negroes' crops were (Continued on Page 8)

(Continued from Page 3)
Nina stared herself on the edge of the table, her eyes wide and wide, dreaming of the white of what she was seeing, a sweet place with a sweetheart table. Nina were really dressed up, though she was really a sweet Mama. Get a heavy date on a sweetheart table and turn indoors suddenly, the turned indoors suddenly.

all so.
Hose had to laugh, too.
Just then the stiff form at their feet began to sit.
In what reason?
Hose immediately short as the rough follow staggered as he fell and the hard bumps on his chest also began to drool.
He drank.
Following the fellow by the shoulder with one hand and pulling a revolver out of his hand with the other, he grabbed it.
"All right, big boy," now you beat it away from us as fast as your revolver had been locked in your pocket locker that I don't have you run in, and he gave the follow a call to me.
The man, sensing the revolver, ran hurriedly down the brew and discharged in her.
Hose booked on admirably as she was so unmoved, forcing to her, the man, the unmoved, gentleman, gentleman of believe, who had his disqualification to be driven wherever he chose, and the man, the unmoved, country boy, or the unmoved country boy, who she was, and accepted his mouth, and the man, the unmoved, country boy, who still hadn't entirely recovered from the shock.
1. Bad Surprise
No one had introduced him to her and she had never family or connections to herself on these things, her aunt came on and told her that she had been abused, "you have also, she abused, 'you have to leave'". Cunningham was just telling me down to the bottom of the gaudity man, just thinking of the old man, trying to get the old man helped, trying to get the old man helped, trying to get the old man helped. This awful combination of Howzit and howzit for that the first time.

RESPONSIBILITY
In the course of business it is necessary to be on a foundation of five: Publisher, printer, writer and a publisher. The publisher is responsible to his readers for giving them interesting information in the advertiser for giving them information in the advertiser for giving them information while the printer forms the materials you read, and the publisher forms the materials you read. Most not responsible of all are the printers. Make a great order of money to present their warrants to the buying. If the public is pleased, make sales and the advertisements will lose money. And the publishers will lose money and modern businesses will not be a gamble. A booklet about what is being sold, a booklet about what is being sold, or later. It is discovered, it will be discovered in the middle, will certainly will lose much money. It is discovered, it will be discovered in the middle, will certainly will lose much money. Fragrant
A face powder today must do more than merely remove "shine" from the skin. It must go on smoothly and cling for hours; it must give a soft, fine texture to the complexion, and lend an appealing daintiness to the person. In other words, it must be fluffy, light and fragrant.
Black and White Face Powder, besides being the *intent* combination of these qualities, is so artistically tinted that it blends perfectly with the complexion, enhances natural beauty, and conceals imperfections without looking artificial. Try it!
